The names of the dishes are written in Vietnamese, so I had to read the descriptions, that took a little time, but I found what I wanted. Since this was my first time here I wanted to start with something I was familiar with and it was delicious. I'm am so happy to have been reminded to visit Pho Dat Thanh, because it was such a great dining experience! I have been there twice for lunch and each meal was delicious and served timely. It's easy to get to if you're in Columbia and there's plenty of parking. The service is pretty fast, too and the ambiance is very nice with very clean bathrooms, which I always check out when I visit restaurants. So, I come here because it's closer to me than Eden center. This is also the ONLY place I know that sells Vietnamese sour soup, which satisfies the cravings. That being said, this place is not good. All the dishes we had the last visit were not good. Avocado smoothie was a bit odd, pho lacked any flavor, bbh was so weird, summer rolls were summer rolls, and the soup was good but not the best. I'm confused if this place is Korean or Chinese or some mix of Vietnamese but it doesn't seem authentic at all. I have ordered Pho from this restaurant about close to 6 times, via Yelp with delivery from Grubhub. The pho broth is OK and in my opinion, it needs a bit more flavor. I love the brisket, it is absolutely delicious and is what I always get. The spring rolls don't seem to be freshly made every time I order them. The last time I did, they tasted as though they were once fried, sat out for a while and then refried for my order. It was disappointing. They also do not have Banh Mi I don't know of any other pho restaurants in the Columbia area so managing with this one for now unttil I find something better. read more

I'm a big fan of Asian food, but this was a huge disappointment. Between my wife and I, we had samples of five separate dishes, and none of them were good. The meat cuts were poor and the spices weak or non-Vietnamese. And there was an odd and unpleasant aftertaste. Neither of us finished our meals. We ordered in for our family dinner date tonight! Shoutout to our local community heroes here this venue for letting us order through Yelp and Grubhub! We are truly blessed with the generous portions and authentic flavors! All my faves came to our door in less than an hour! I air fried some of the fried food once they arrived to crisp up a few items after they road all the from Columbia. I want to try these fresh out the kitchen some day so that I truly appreciate the food as it was intended. I think it is a bit different after the food sits in the delicious sauces, steams in the containers, then takes a car ride. This is PHO restaurant number 22 since I started my pho tour a year ago in Knoxville, TN . The portion was HUGE with a clear, clean broth. I ordered the sliced onion in vinegar and received a whole sliced onion, unlike other places that charge you for a few slices. The condiments- bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, Jalapeños and a whole lime was definitely more than I have ever received- it was nice not to ask for more. The summer roll was average but still good. Had it not been for the reviews on Yelp, i would have been very intimidated to walk into this place, having never had this type of cuisine before. But I read up on it, reviewed their menu and I was ready to go! I visited on a weekday evening right after work and ordered an H1 to go (Grilled Pork with Vermicelli and a spring roll). There was a mixture of customers dining in ranging from a family with small children to an older couple, and a lone male diner. While I waited for my order, another family group with teenagers came in, as well as three customers that had apparently called in their to-go order. About 15 minutes later, I had my food and rushed home to try it. I am not ashamed to say I ate nearly all of it. It was delish! I especially enjoyed the spring roll. I do plan to visit again. This might be the best Pho for Columbia and HoCo but it's otherwise decent if you're familiar with Pho and have more discerning tastes. I come here more because most of the Chinese food around this area is "tso" good ie in Chinese Americanized. If I cannot make the trek MoCo for good Chinese, this is where I end up (or a dim sum place in Ft. Meade). I believe the owners are or were Viet Chinese. (Well, we asked several years ago but Asian restaurants change hands sometimes). At that time, we were wowed by the size of beef grass leaf rolls, "So big!", but they've shrunken overtime but the prices remain the same which is reasonable considering beef and food costs are always rising. My only gripe with the food is that is really greasy for Vietnamese. It's a shame because the food would taste much brighter without being overtaken by the extra oil. Oh, and to the owners, please do not skimp on air conditioning. This past weekend, during our recent heatwave, I had to pat my forehead with napkins and took most of food to go because it was that hot inside the restaurant. I don't recommend this place. I would only give one star but, customer service was great. Food quality has went down hill. I use to come here all the time and it been a year or so and the food was not how in remembered it. I ordered the vermicelli with grilled pork and spring roll. The grilled pork was good. The spring roll not good. The spring roll filling tasted funny like if it was old meat used or frozen and then fried. What really was a turn off was their fish sauce that you eat it with... it was watered down and no flavor. The main part of this dish is the fish sauce. If you can't make fish sauce for a Vietnamese restaurant, don't have this dish on your menu. As being Vietnamese myself, I know how to make fish sauce (Nuoc Cham) and how it suppose to taste. This was Not even close. So I thought maybe I got a bad batch. I asked for another cup of fish sauce and it taste the same. Watered down and no taste. My whole meal made me loose my appetite. I also got their stuffed beef grape leaf. I don't recommend that either. It tasted like straight up beef you use for spaghetti and wrapped with grape leaf. No seasoning and very oily. This is one of my favorite appetizers and it was just sad. I do recommend the grilled pork summer rolls. Those were good! A lot of meat and the pork was delicious. Please work on your fish sauce. This place must have an unlimited supply of bean sprouts in the back because my goodness do they give you a LOT! Ordered beef pho it was ok, tasted extremely light, not flavorful like other pho I've had. The fried spring rolls weren't the best and the crepe (pancake) was good just too much bean sprouts. Very busy on a Sat night but seated fast and food came out very quickly. However after we started eating, server was very inattentive with refills and check. Probably will not return but if you're looking for fast, inexpensive Vietnamese this would be your spot. Since the first time I've been here 10 years or so ago to the last time I've been here a week ago, there have been notable changes. Their Pho game stepped up tremendously. It's not the best but it's still a good option if you're in Columbia. The rice dishes are great and some of the Chinese dishes are outstanding. This place was and still is owned by Koreans and they probably had some help from Vietnamese and Chinese chefs because the food has improved dramatically. The service is always consistent in being impeccable with refills, sending food out and knowing when to service us. Overall this place had a complete make over because years ago they sucked and I'm surprised I haven't wrote a review giving this place 2 stars due to their bland Pho, extremely Americanized Chinese dishes and non-existent Vietnamese cuisine. I don't know how many times I've been here (20-30 times?) but I've never had a bad experience. The "worst" experience I've had here was when they forgot to bring us 1 of the dishes then charged us for it, but that was a long time ago. The past year or so, every dish I've tried was either outstanding, great or decent. Here are my favorites: Crispy Spicy ANYTHING: I've ordered their Chicken, Pork and Seafood and every single time they have delivered something special. By all means, the flavors aren't rich or BOOM in your face, full of succulent flavors, but the simplicity of the dish is the beauty of it! Every time I order this dish, the meats are always consistent in terms of extreme tenderness, juiciness and perfect amount of salt to bring out the maximum potential of its flavors. The Pork has bones in it so you'd have to be careful. There are also sliced Jalapeno peppers and pieces of garlic in the dish so try to get everything in 1 bite, it'll taste fantastic. Grilled Pork Rice Dish: The Grilled Pork is juicy, flavorful and the rice brings the dish together like Bonnie & Clyde. There is no greater complement than rice. Crispy Beef: I only recommend getting this dish if you're planning to eat another. The Beef is deep fried then smothered in sweet and sticky sauce. It's crispy, sometimes crunchy and is sweet. However, the more you have this, the more stickier it gets to your teeth and taste buds. The rice helps tremendously, but it may not be enough for some of you so I would recommend you getting another dish that can cut into the fried sweetness of this dish. Something not fried and savory should do the trick! This is definitely a great place to eat at when in Columbia. read more

We came here for lunch on a weekend, it wasn't too crowed, we were seated immediately. We ordered bbq summer rolls for dessert and it was really good, I liked it much  better than the original summer roll. we got a small Pho D3 and a Bun rieu. Pho tasted pretty good and broth is very flavorful, but the meat and the noodles had some averse texture. However, the bun rieu, I don't see rieu in there or a taste of regular Bun rieu that we have had before. Bun rieu has egg, tomato, fried tofu, fried fish cake, fish ball, crab stick. Those are not what you normally find in bun rieu but it tastes decent, just not bun rieu if you are someone who trying to get authentic bun rieu. however, the bun rieu bowl is huge and we could only finish half of it. I also saw on the menu that they have family style lunch and dinner which is very nice and affordable for lunch special prices. We will come back next time to give these a try. read more

where do i start? i love this place so much. everything is so delicious. i CONSTANTLY crave the spring rolls, recommend 100%. their smoothies are amazing too. i usually get curry chicken and it's very good. the chicken almost melts in your mouth and the curry is very flavorful. im speaking more about the food than the service, however. i have only eaten in once and have carried out since (because it's easier, and have gotten used to it since covid). the one time i ate in, the service was great! no complaints. read more

Pho typically has several side effects. 1) If you eat it late at night, your face will be bloated the next day. To recreate this effect, blow air with your mouth closed and breathe through your noise while holding the air in your mouth. 2) You'll be parched but can't bear to drink any more liquids after consuming a whole bowl of broth. And 3) your clothes will stink afterwards. Despite these side effects, I still crave it! As simple (beef broth, rice noodles and meat) as it is fun to use colloquially, it can be followed with a K to make an expletive, e.g., Pho Kim in VA and I'm sure there's a Pho King out there somewhere. It can be used as a substitute for "for," e.g., Pho Real (Wow! Did I just use the word for 3 times in a row?). In this case, I'm not sure what a Thanh is, but someone wants to pho dat piece. Location - I used to prefer An Loi (just down Snowden River) over this place, but that has changed recently with An Loi's change in ownership. In terms of decor, this restaurant seems to follow the 2 I's principle of design found in most Asian restaurants: Idols and Ikea. Come on my fellow suburbanite Asians! We can do better than this! If you're traveling north on Snowden, you have to go past the restaurant and make a U-turn, and for some odd reason, I always turn into the first shopping center -- PDT is in the 2nd. They have servers and some of them don't speak English good :) Thankfully, they are pretty good about refilling your water because of aforementioned undesirable side effect. Food - All the previous reviews mention how good the food is and I'll have to agree. When you're really hungry, Vietnamese food is great because it's so quick!, and this place is no different. The pho doesn't taste like cinnamon (which is a good thing) and I think it has plenty of MSG, a.k.a., Mmmmm So Good. Yeah, it's bad for you but what doesn't cause cancer these days? Also, they seem to have adopted McDonald's pricing structure - a regular bowl is about $6 and you can supersize for just 40 cents more. it comes with plenty of sprouts (you can ask them to be steamed, particularly good for you preggos) and they have real Sriracha and a good hoison sauce, both essential to a great pho experience. If you're hungry, I recommend getting an order of the grilled pork appetizer ($6). In terms of the other dishes, we've never ventured too far into their menu, particularly the Thai side of things. For the pho-adverse, I highly recommend the grilled pork over broken rice or vermicelli, served with an excellent fish sauce. The summer rolls were just ok, filled mostly with lettuce. Their bubble tea was one-and-done as I refuse to give soggy balls a second chance and their Thai Ice Tea was more like Orange/Brown colored sugar drink. When you walk in to a Pho restaurant and you are the only white girl in the whole area and if it wasn't for the waitresses you are possibly the only person who speaks English--you know the place is LEGIT. OH MY GAWD, so good! I was feeling like I was going to catch a cold and when this feeling occurs I always go straight for Pho. It always makes me feel better! The menu selections is crazy long and they have the best descriptions under each selection--super helpful. Before ordering I was looking around to see what others have ordered (obviously all regulars) and there was a table filled of older ladies who were smelling the veggies they ordered and sharing everything between the five of them on the table. Whatever they ordered smelled divine and made me want to scoot on over and join their table! I actually ordered exactly what the women across from me ordered, just in a one-person sized bowl and YUM. Just Yum. SO GOOD. The meat was cooked perfectly, there were no overly cooked pieces or undercooked pieces or even those weird extra fatty pieces. Everything was just amazing.
