I was looking for a protein filled breakfast and found good options at the Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The location is in the shopping center, but the parking can be a bit of a maze. I arrived a little bit after they opened, so the place was empty. The cafe was still empty and the cashier was patient and friendly. She let me look at the menu while she finished setting up in the back. She also helped with recommendations, since I was indecisive. Ended up with the Island Green smoothie and Cali Breakfast Flatbread. The flatbread was a little tough to eat, but the filling was good. The smoothie was very sweet. Overall a good experience and will come back to try other dishes/smoothies. read more

I ordered a plant based meal on 08/12 through the Tropical Smoothie website to receive a call that there was no plant based meat. So, that means your website is not updated. Okay. I asked for a refund and the guy told me I had to call corporate (this has happened to me before but I thought they might've updated their website and processes). I call corporate just for them to tell me they'll send a email to the manager of that store to request one and they will get it with 15 min (doesn't really help if the manager isn't there which is why I couldn't get a refund right away in the first place). A day goes by and I haven't heard anything so I call this morning, 8/14 and ask to speak with the manager. Once again he is not there. I ask if there was any supervisor or duty and the lady tells me no. At this point I'm annoyed so I ask if there is only one person in the store designated to give refunds and she replies yes. I ask for someone's contact information and then she literally passed the phone to someone else and they both begin giggling. The girl who answered had to gather her composure and I could hear them both just continuing to laugh. She tells me the girl had to deal with something and had to go. How unprofessional is that? The new lady on the phone is now telling me that I have to call the Bethesda store to speak with the manager, who is Iglicio, if I want to get in contact with him. I call and he's not there just to get a lady to simply say, "Hello." I was taken aback and had to check if I had the right number. When I asked if this was Tropical Smoothie, with an attitude she goes, "Uh, yeah." Who are you all hiring?! This is highly unacceptable to me. Corporate can't tell me when I'm gonna receive a refund because they don't have contact with the stores. They can only send request. What is the point of corporate, then? And I should not have to track someone down just to receive a refund when the site wasn't update. I would've never ordered and gone through this AGAIN. I am highly disappointed in Tropical Smoothie and livid you employ people who think it's okay to pass phones and then laugh while customers are asking for refunds and to speak to a manager. Please know that you have loss a customer and I will be advising everyone I know to never order from any of your establishment again. This experience has been frustrating, the customer service has been horrible, and it makes no sense you all don't have a central way to give customers refunds. Highly disappointed. read more

Flexibility - they'll let you substitute and make other changes to menu items and give suggestions if you desire doing so. Haven't had anything there I wouldn't recommend... We came across Tropical Smoothie Cafe while craving a juice smoothie. It's in a shopping complex that is steps away from the Walmart. There's also ample parking in the complex. Inside the business, I did not see any seating and that might be due to their social distance enforcement. I also noticed that there were social distance signs, all staff had masks and gloves on, and there was a hand sanitizer for customers and these made me feel safe. We got the Bahama Mama, which I thought was amazing (for coconut lovers you could really taste this along with the white chocolate). We also got the Sunrise Sunset which was very refreshing and consisted of a lovely blend of all the included fruits (I could really taste the strawberry and mango with a lingering orange). I also got the All American Wrap which was warm and nice to eat along with my smoothie. I'm glad we were able to stop by this clean and friendly spot. read more

Very cool location located in the middle of a shopping center. It can be hard to find if you didn't specifically come looking for it but its totally worth the search. This location is rarely backed up and you are able to get in and get out in no time. They don't rush you to decide on your drink and take pride in making your drink correctly. I always use their app to rack up rewards and earn a free enhancer or drink. If you have had a TS before you won't be disappointed the consistency is perfect and they have a ton of ingredients to make it just the way you life it. read more

Though the food has been good they absolutely never get our order right. Then when you call they don't answer. Can't get refund on the site. I don't understand-we pay for only half our meal to be delivered. This is my second time eating at this particular establishment located in Columbia Dobbin center. I decided to go grab some food bc it was delicious the first time and very convenient. On August 2 @ exactly 8:02 PM I walked into the store to NOT be greeted so kindly by a young lady wearing a mask and braids. Even through her mask, I can tell she looked annoyed, frustrated or just tired. So I spoke to her kindly and you could tell she did not want to speak back, so I asked her how she was doing bc I felt myself matching her energy. She replied, and asked me the same thing as well in a not so nice, sarcastic way. On top of all this, there were two other associates leaning over on the counter, playing on their phone. At the end of the transaction, I told her "thank you" and she did not say anything. To me, the person at the register is the introduction to the business no matter how good the food is or how negative the associate may feel. When someone says. "Thank you" the response shouldn't be "mmhm" and this response was given when I received my smoothie and when I received my entree. I'm huge on customer service because my job relates to me giving great customer service regardless of how I feel. I don't take it out on my customers and I don't exude negativity upon and during our encounter. The higher ups or reps for this place needs to enforce common courtesy, presentation and customer service. The food is great but the introduction and environment was horrible. read more

This is only of only two locations in Maryland, and today was my first visit at either Maryland location. Of the Tropical Smoothies I've been to in Virginia, Arizona, and now Maryland, this one is my least favorite. I would normally give any of the Virginia ones 4-5 stars, this one only deserves 3-stars. Taste: 4-stars Customer Service: 2-stars Atmosphere: 3-stars I walked in to this location, and this was the smallest one I've ever been to; it was a very cramped waiting for the sandwich, and it was a narrow place to wait in line. The one in Seven Corners, VA closest to home to me is pretty small too, but they don't have a thick post separating the seats. So, this one was really tight. However, on a positive note, they did have some outside seating. Luckily, the weather was nice about 80-degrees with a light breeze. But there have been times when I have gone to Tropical Smoothie in Virginia, and it has been 15-degrees outside before the wind chill; outside seating would not be an option in this case. Or now in June, it could be 100-degrees out, and I would prefer not sitting outside in 100-degree heat. (I know I'm from Phoenix...so 100 doesn't sound like much, but 100-degrees with high Mid-Atlantic humidity is not fun). As for the customer service, this was my biggest compliant. I told her my sandwich order, and she asked what side I would like. I knew chips were an option, but I wanted to pick something healthy. I asked her what the options were, and she mumbled them. I heard chips, fruit medley, something kale. I asked her to speak up, and she still spoke fast and soft. I still didn't quite catch the kale option, but I settled on the fruit medley since I don't like kale. When you are the cashier, you need to PROJECT YOUR VOICE so that the customer can hear and understand you. I ordered the only sandwich or wrap under 900 mg sodium, the Chicken Pecan Salad Sandwich. I was planning ahead since tonight I will be eating 1300 mg of sodium, and that is with picking one of the lowest options. Both the Chicken Pecan Salad sandwich and fruit medley were tasty. Another interesting point, I sat outside at a table next to the window, and this little boy inside was knocking at the window. Annoyed, I moved my food that I had started on to another table. Then, those same four or five kids were running around playing outside. FINALLY after several minutes, the mom came out and told them to come back inside. I first blame the mom for not paying attention to her kids. However, the kids running around outside goes back to the point that if the Tropical Smoothie had not been so cramped, they might've stayed inside. read more

I had never been to a Tropical Smoothie Café before, but was finally drawn in on National Flipflop Day during their promotion. Wear flip flops, and get a free 16 oz Sunshine Smoothie. They were doing it to help support Camp Sunshine, so we donated. I came with my partner and our 2 year old daughter. We both wore flip flops, but since they don't make flip flops for children that young since apparently it can mess up their toes or feet or walking (sorry, can't remember the exact reason), we put her in Crocs. They offered her one regardless, and she was thrilled. It was so tasty, and was definitely good marketing, as I know now that they make a darn tasty smoothie, and offer other items such as paninis and flatbreads, that I had no idea about, now making it a possible lunch spot for us. After a tiring day of hiking, I visited the Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Thankfully, I'm not much of a smoothie fanatic and see no value in spending extra money on special blenders (sorry Vitamix fans!), mixes, and any other ingredients that go into a smoothie. After seeing a 4.5* rating from yelp and having no options other than Panera available in the vicinity for breakfast, I decided to give Tropical Smoothie a shot. Surprisingly enough they had breakfast items, but only 3 on the menu, which makes it surprisingly simple to choose your breakfast item. The three are: all american omelet wrap, the southwest omelet wrap, and peanut butter banana crunch flatbread. I was bit surprised at the prices because both of the omelet wraps were 2.99 and the flatbread was 3.99. Our group of 3 ordered all 3 of the dishes along with one smoothie for each since it was a flat $3 for any smoothie on the menu if you ordered a breakfast item. As suspicious as I was the omelet was very small (probably the size of my palm) and my Acai berry smoothie was gigantic (say a super size cup from McDonald). I guess the restaurant is trying to sell the healthy eating concept by giving small portions and the "healthy" super sized smoothie, I'm not sure whether it is really that healthy b/c I suspect those smoothies are close to 1000 calories per cup. That being said, I wasn't particular ecstatic about the taste of the smoothie compared to the smoothies that I make at home using frozen organic fruit from Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Unless there is something missing that a smoothie dilettante like myself is not noticing, I'd say that Tropical Smoothie Cafe is not a place suitable for breakfast or snacks for the non-smoothie lover. read more

This place is actually pretty good. I got one of their GREEN smoothies and it came in a HUGE, tall cup and the total was about $5. Not bad, considering a bubble tea half that size anywhere around here is probably $3-3.50 and is twice as unhealthy, haha. Tip: split a cup with a friend and it's perfect. For people who are fasting, it's the perfect size to give you a "meal" portion. It will fill you up. I like that their smoothies are clean and fresh-tasting rather than milky and yogurty like Smoothie King. This is where you should be going for smoothies. The smoothies here are pretty amazing, and the portion size is pretty good, too. Try the triple berry oat; it's my favorite. This place also makes sandwiches and wraps. I have tried a few of their food items, and I'm always satisfied with the portion size, quality of ingredients, and flavor. However, I feel like the food is just a little over priced. Nonetheless, don't be afraid to eat here. The food is great. I can't speak for other tropical smoothie cafés, but this place has been very consistently good. --I also became a much bigger fan of this place once I learned how closely they partner with camp sunshine. My friend came in with me to try the chicken tacos. We forgot that she had allergy to mangos. The staff immediately gave her new tacos without mangos. The staff was not upset about the switch up. I have always enjoyed the food at Tropical Smoothie but today the Customer Service was horrible at the 6455 Dobbin Road, Columbia, MD location. I waited patiently for my food for 20 minutes. When the cahier was asked about the order, she went in the back and was given the order off of a station. When I asked how long the food was there, the cashier shrugged her shoulders. I told her an apology would be appreciated, which was not received. I work in the service industry and the lack of acknowledgement for a mistake is inappropriate and unwarranted. My all time favorite is Avocolada, the avocado, kale, spinach, with coconut water. I did not feel like eating a smoothie that sounds like salad bar at first but after I first sipped it from my friend's cup. I changed my mind. I have an epiphany. The smoothies were super thin and had turned to the consistency of milk before I could make it home- (which was only about 6mins). And the ingredients were not blended together well at all. They spice up their menu by featuring different delicious and healthy smoothies but always leaving the signature smoothies. So many different additional options (protein, oats... etc.). We find out it just opened today and they are having a grand opening next week ($0.99 smoothie!!). I ordered Peaches 'N Silk smoothie which are peaches, strawberries, and banana. It's soooo good! Their smoothies rock, pure and simple, I've never had a bad one. I tend to veer to the ones with mangoes - my favorite is Sunrise Sunset. Another pleaser was the Blimey Limey. The shopping center they are in has some stiff competition with Panera, Five Guys, and Baja Fresh, but TSC wins out all of the time. This place opened a few weeks ago right next to the Baja Fresh. I got the Blimey Limey smoothie which was pretty good. This place kind of reminds me of Jamba Juice in that they both have similar concepts of serving different kinds of smoothies and you can also get smoothies with supplements like protein and energizer. What I don't like is that the smoothies only come in 24oz size which is huge and I never can finish it and it costs around $5. I wish they had a smaller size for half the price. They do have kids' smoothies but there aren't as many flavor options. My go-to place in Columbia area whenever I crave a smoothie :) Friendly staff whenever I go, and they're super fast/efficient. They have stamp/reward cards! After you buy 8 smoothies and get them hole punched, you can get your next smoothie for free :) I usually get the Island green smoothie (spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, and banana; ask for splenda instead of their regular sugar). I would purchase the large size and ask them to split the smoothie into two smaller cups! Perfect if you want to share the smoothie with another person :). I've also tried their grilled chicken flat bread and it was pretty delicious! So I like to have my moments eating healthy and feeling like I have accomplished something so I came to Tropical Smoothie! I don't ever finish my food because of my low stomach lining so instead of throwing away and wasting food I order from the kids menu which is usually more than enough for me. So I ordered from the kids menu and asked what were my choices and she only knew about the quesadilla and smoothie. I recalled the website stating the meal coming with sides she stated that might have been in a different store because they don't here...I was able to find on the menu where it states my meal gave the option of a side in which she added a side after reading the menu. It's not a big deal but it is important to know what's on the menu and ensure the customer gets what they pay for but besides that this place is great! read more

There aren't many legit smoothie places that use REAL fresh fruit in Columbia/Ellicott City... At least not within 10 minutes from my house. I don't like that fake liquid stuff that other franchises use. There are a few seats for sitting, although the only customers I've seen - are the ones who just walk out with their drink. The menu is well displayed and not confusing. It's a pretty small store.. I think my only complaint was that there is only 1 SIZE for the fruit smoothies... I wanted a kids size or something, because their cups are HUGE (so - yes, good price....) But I only finish about 1/2 and would like to pay about half, around $3 or something for a kiddie size =) Until then, I shall continue to go to the smoothie stand at the Columbia Mall..
