FINALLY got a chance to try this place, it was yummy! Went on a Tuesday night with a group of six, no problem getting right in. The interior is nicer and larger than you would expect from the storefront-like exterior. Kind of typical Korean/Vietnamese restaurant decorating scheme complete with multi-colored lights and (apparently) karaoke on certain nights. The restaurant is split level, with a full bar on the lower level and restaurant seating up the stairs...the bar area was totally deserted, kind of odd. The menu is totally overwhelming and out of control. There is just no reason to have over a hundred items on a menu, especially when many of them are just variations of each other. So that kind of irked me, but I suspect that they do this (based on the fact that all the items are numbered) because many of the people that work at the restaurant don't speak English. Regardless, for someone as indecisive as myself, reading a novel while hungry isn't pleasant. I digress. I'm a banh mi addict, so I had to get the pork banh mi...you can't beat it at 4.75! The bread was exceptional, completely on point. The pork, however, was a solid slab of meat that was a little too chewy to take bites out of the sandwich :( And I didn't detect the flavor of the quick-pickled veggies, so IDK. It was a solid banh mi all around, however. I also ordered beef pho (#22, there are about five or six variations of beef pho -.-). I loved how it came with beans sprouts, thai basil, jalepenos and lime wedges on the side to add as desired. This was truly a large serving size and I almost instantly regretted trying to finish it. But it was tasty enough that I did. I also tried some stir fried tofu from my friend's plate, a little greasy but delicious. My friend at the other end of the table wouldn't stop raving about the chicken wings, apparently they're amazing. Also, free tea! Jasmine by request. I came here for my birthday dinner with a few friends on Sunday because I had heard so many great things about Pho Dollar. Thanks Yelpers for helping me make a wonderful choice! I really loved that they served complimentary Jasmine tea. Thankfully it was my birthday so my friends had to let me have what was left in the kettle! Mwahaha! I think we ordered a fairly diverse selection from the menu and we took bites from each other's plates. I got the seafood pad thai, which was a little too spicy for my taste. I must not have read the menu completely, or I was blinded by the word "lobster", which I love. I wasn't a fan of the texture of the seafood. Not that they cooked it incorrectly, but I haven't had seafood in a while, and as I've said in other reviews, I can get "weirded out" by the texture of meat. Two of my friends got the tofu stir fry which was good. I would recommend it if you happen to go with anyone who is new to trying Vietnamese, or has a preference for a more simple dish. One of my friends ordered a crispy noodle beef bowl, and some sort of pork dish that came in a stone bowl with a side of rice. I tried a bite of the pork and I didn't want it to ever stop. SO deliciously flavorful-I wish I knew what it was called so I could tell the world. You'll have to ask for a vegetarian menu if you have some non-meat eaters in your party (we had quite a few and I think we maxed out the restaurants supply of veggie menus). We really appreciated that the owner of Pho Dollar actually came to our table to welcome us and to give us a little bit of information about the menu. He told us that if there was anything wrong with our food, he would take it back and make sure we got something that we liked. We all thought it showed great hospitality and a real eagerness to go above and beyond for the customer. The only aspect that bothered me is that all of our food came out at different times. Being a fairly polite party, we waited until everyone was served, but that proved to be a bit of a long wait. I will certainly be back again soon! read more

I was at pho dollar yesterday for the first time and loved it. We had egg rolls and pho chicken soup. Both were awesome. They bring out a plate with basil, sprouts, peppers, etc and sauces if you want to add them to the pho. This is the perfect place to get a cheap, healthy, and quick meal. read more

Can't believe I found this gem so close to my place in Buffalo! I lived in LA and desperately miss the variety of Asian food, so I'm so happy to have this excellent Vietnamese place. The rare beef and brisket pho is great - wonderfully seasoned, perfect noodle texture, and huge. The best thing is that it's under $10, and you can order online for pickup. I've also had the chicken and egg roll vermicelli, and that was so good too. Ask for another side of fish sauce! I wish I could try everything at once and will definitely be back. read more

I got there right at close (thought they closed at 10, but it was 9:30) and they were gracious enough to offer me takeout. Most places would just straight up turn ya away. I ordered the Pho Tai Chin, and it was incredible. They packaged everything separately, so my noodles were still perfect and my beef still rare. They were really friendly, and the place seemed clean. This is my go-to spot for a nice Thai Iced Bubble tea & Pork Bahn Mi. The bread is always the perfect mix of soft & crunchy, just right. My boyfriend usually enjoys the spicy, vegetable soups. I am actually giving this 4 1/2 stars but oh well. Service is spotty and some items are a touch expensive but the ingredients are excellent and fresh. I will say that the servers are young but bilingual and I've found to be very helpful and nice. It's a small family run business, I'm not sure why some people are expecting black tie service? I think having the family there adds to the relaxed atmosphere and reinforces the importance of success and quality they have for the business. I personally haven't seen kids running around as another reviewer mentioned but each time I'm there, both owners are prominent and the wife (?) Is continually coming out of kitchen with cleaning gloves on to take stock of what's going on. She definitely looks like she means business! Anyway, I have been here 3 times and enjoyed everything I have tried and portions are generous. Especially the starters, which are almost entrees, but a favorite has been # 2 to share with a couple people. They bring you all the fixings for summer rolls and you make your own! I'm only here in buffalo for school, but I have never been to a vietnamese restaurant that has such high quality authentic dishes. I've been here twice with friends and they all really like eating at pho dollar. Maybe it's because I don't order the noodle bowl, but I wasn't satisfied with the two meals I've had here. I ordered menu item 39 which says it comes with crab cakes, but when I got it there were certainly no crab cakes on my plate. Also I ordered a bubble tea which sat on The counter for fifteen minutes before I told the waiter to please bring it over. My first Pho experience was great! The broth was very flavorful and this was just what I needed after a weekend of not feeling too great. A plate of toppings arrived to the table before our bowls of pho with steak and sliced meatballs. I didn't try the meatballs because I wasn't sure I would have like them but I enjoyed the steak. There was sriracha, hoisin sauce, chopsticks, and forks at the table. The restaurant wasn't too busy and we were able to sit and chat for a little after our meal which was nice. Pho 99 has competition. I was so excited when I heard a new Pho spot opened up in Buffalo. I was used to getting Pho 99 all the time because it was relatively quick and close by but Pho Dollar is worth the longer drive and wait. Their spring rolls were delicious. Not too crispy and not too oily. They were also reasonably stuffed with meat unlike other restaurants. I ordered their Pho Dac Biet, the broth was very tasty. I'm so in love with this place. Each time I visit the staff is absolutely amazing and so is the food. I highly recommend the Pho Tai and/or Pork Banh Mi. The pho here is out of this world. I went to Pho Dollar with a friend this early evening to check out this (relatively) new Vietnamese place on the west side of Buffalo. Since it opened, there has been quite a bit of hype surrounding it and we were intrigued. It's located on West Ferry Street near Grant Street in a neighborhood that has seen better days. Don't let the location scare you away though! Once you get inside you're bound to feel comfortable. The decor, although dated, and the surroundings are bright and clean. The lower level appears to be bar-seating/take-out waiting area. There are large flat screen televisions behind the bar airing sports games and local news. We were seated in the upper level where tables are situated along the walls and in the middle of the room (I think it would be pretty cramped at busy times.) The tables are clean, the chairs are comfortable and wobble-free, and the lighting is appropriate for this type of a restaurant. A hostess pointed us to a table and quickly brought us menus, cutlery, and iced water. We were immediately greeted by an inexperienced server (to her credit, she did tell us it was only her second day) who brought us cold Jasmine tea (she did promptly replace it with hot tea.) About 3 minutes later she asked us if we were ready to order. Now...had we been regular customers, perhaps we wouldn't have needed to look at the enormous menu however we were not regulars. Again, to her credit, she was eager to please...just a bit inexperienced. The menu is GIGANTIC and contains appetizer, soups, beverages, and entrees listed in Vietnamese with small photographs and very vague descriptions in English. OK, so that sums up why this review lost two stars. Now, on to the good part! The food was delicious, fresh-tasting, and (I'm told by my friend) authentic. We ordered the spring rolls (three to an order, cut in half) which were served with a season fish sauce, the Vietnamese pancake (a LARGE pancake filled with ample bean sprouts, scallions, pork and shrimp with a side salad containing lettuce, julienned carrots and cucumber). The pancake had a bizarre sweetness that we quickly found to be quite pleasant. We also both ordered #22 - the beef pho. It is served with a large plate of bean sprouts, lime slices, jalapenos, and two green vegetables we couldn't identify. (One of them smelled like basil and the other had an indecipherable aroma.) We asked the server, who asked the busboy, who asked another server what these vegetables were but they didn't know how to say it in English. Nonetheless, they provided a delicate fragrance and taste to the hot broth. The pho also contained ample noodles, scallions, shaved beef, some sort of shaved meat ball, and a few ingredients with which we were unfamiliar. The condiments on the table included Hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, and what appeared to be homemade hot sauce. I added a bit of all of them into my pho and it a very tasty soup indeed. One pleasant surprise was when an "older" gentleman came to our table to ask us how everything was tasting. He explained to us (albeit in a hard-to-understand accent) that everything is cooked to order and that if we didn't like something we should let him know and he would take it back and fix it. He explained that allergies and dietary constrictions are also accommodated if they can be. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and a new (for me) adventure into the growing food culture that is, thankfully, happening in Buffalo at this moment. I will certainly be back...I just hope the tea is hot and the servers can answer questions for Vietnamese cuisine newbies like myself. read more

This place does not get enough credit for its delicious, legit, and fresh food. It's sort of a random Viet joint, and I would drive completely out of my way to fulfill my craving for their food. Having explored NY (and parts of SF), I have yet to find a banh mi sammich that can compete. I seriously wish they would just move downstate. I have cravings for Pho Dollar food, and can only hope to find a place that rivals in taste and value. The people who make your food are actually Viet, the place is clean, the boss has a secret coffee blend that is phenomenal, and the food. Ah, the food. Banh mi: I can't find a better sammich yet. Sliced BBQ pork of perfectly marinated and barbecued meat. Dressed with the usual cucumber, pickled radish/carrot combo, and cilantro. I like more carrots and cucumbers, and they always accommodate! The bread - so fresh! Crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside with their mayo spread. Writing about it is bringing the craving back. Iced viet coffee: you will have to wait 10 min for this because they make the drip coffee fresh in front of you (none of that pre-made crap), and pour it in condensed milk with a separate glass of ice. Like I said earlier, this place makes their own blend of coffee, and, as a coffee lover, gets you addicted. It is very sweet though, so be prepared to add some water or wait for the ice to melt. **Sidenote: I would have a pork banh mi and an iced coffee for lunch sometimes. Best $10 lunch. Bun with BBQ pork and spring rolls: Rice vermicelli, cooked to just the right consistency. Their BBQ pork (same as banh mi) is delish, and their spring rolls are seasoned perfectly. There is vermicelli, pork, and veggies in it, which is well-balanced with their home-made fish dipping sauce. They always have fresh lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, and carrots. If you have peanut allergy, you should tell them ahead of time - I recall there being crushed peanuts on top. Pho: Solid, hit the spot pho with trimmings of your choice, fresh bean sprouts, basil, and jalepenos on the side. Good for those cold, wintery days...which is a good portion of the Buffalo year. Once a week at least! Love this place. Never disappointed. Food is fresh and full of flavor. We no longer can go to other Vietnamese restaurants, as we are disappointed that they are no where near as good as Pho. Pho bowls are always good and steaming hot. We love the noodle bowls with fresh carrots, cucumbers and lettuce and choice of meat (pork,egg rolls, or combo with shrimp) with side of fish sauce. Sorry. I don't know names, # 56 and #57 are our favorites. #6 appetizer ( fresh shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce) wonderful !! Also we always have a wonderful server, Natashka ( hope I am spelling that right) she gives us great recommendations to try, but we do love the usuals. Which by the way she remembers every time we walk in there!!! She is the best, truly happy to see her every week! She knows the menu and will help you find what you like. This place is going downhill. fast. The pho is very oily and the meat is of poor quality. I ordered the basic Pho and it had one small piece of well done meat and a second slightly larger piece of well done meat. The quality is worse. The meat had chunks of pure fat--that's not how it should be. And it should not be already well done. The fresh roll is almost as thin as a cigar now. The spice rack bowls of the hot peppers is never cleaned, leaving a gross collection of bacteria. The sauce bottles are never cleaned. In fact, do they clean at all? Just finished my second dinner at Pho Dollar. Three quick observations: 1). The food is very fresh, with the appetizers especially well turned out -- nice balance of flavors. I believe this is the best (and most authentic) Vietnamese food in our area. Two things: the servings are very generous. Any one appetizer is the size of an entree and would be more than enough for one meal. If not careful, you will over-order. Secondly, the menu is enormous but does not well delineate the differences between entrees. I think it would help us all if the owner cut the menu by half and better identify the differences between the dishes (especially the Phos). And one more quick observation -- on some appetizers the diner is responsible for putting together the dish; i.e. soaking the wrapper and building the roll from the plate of ingredients before you. Kinda unsanitary if you hadn't washed your hands recently and, I hate to admit it, a pain in the butt. 2). Be prepared for bad "Vollywood" music and video as you dine. Two large TV screens air Vietnamese karoke music videos. You cannot avoid the visuals and loud soundtrack. Laughingly bad stuff. I am prepared to forgive since the food is so good. 3). Determining who your waiter is can be difficult. The wait staff are more a collective, and pitch in together to service every table, and asking anyone for anything will be done (and quickly). However, you've got to ask. Water or tea refills are not automatic, nor is an occasional "can I get you anything else?" The owner (an older gentleman) stops by every table and introduces himself, but only at the end of themeal --too late to ask for more water. And again, I'm very forgiving when the food is so good (and inexpensive). read more

The Pho s tasty, spring rolls very good- wresteled with the make them yourself summer rools, a bit tricky at a small table! The fried calamari w hot peppers is yummy! not greasy, spicy tender tender...beef noodl dish is very good, lots of flavor, bokchoy, comfort food... It would be nice to be able to order less LARGE bowls of soup and apps- Its hard to eat alone here and try a few things without it gettin pricey.... First let me start by saying that Pho Dollar has some of the best pho tai in Buffalo, but unfortunately the service is not up to par. I recently ordered takeout and when I picked up my order I asked the cashier if they delivered near UB South Campus and she said yes (minimum order $25) and handed me a takeout menu. I called to order delivery today and low and behold they said they do not deliver to this area. The girl on the phone was very rude. Definitely check with the manager to confirm if they deliver to your area before ordering delivery, because apparently the staff does not know and provides incorrect information. read more

Maybe 5 stars is pushing it a little after just one visit, but I thoroughly enjoyed my first meal there. Really some of the best pho I've had in a long time, and with all the necessary trimmings.
