I'm done hidin', now I'm shinin' like I'm born to be..: gonna be gonna be golden". Just like Rumi from kpop demons hunters I'm done hiding my favorite Vietnamese restraint in sf. Pho Golden isn't in the greatest area where you're going to have to look for street parking because of the Saja Boys with their soda pop.. Every time I visit Pho Golden it's never busy so we've never had to wait to be seated. its so dead that when I close my eyes and imagine the restraunt I always see tumble weeds rolling around inside which is unfortunate because this place is absolutely great. I really enjoy the food here because it's authentic, it's budget friendly, and really fresh. The food comes out fast and the portions are huge. The pho is pretty good as the broth is very fragrant with a lot of flavor. they even sell Banh Xeo thats extra crispy on the outside and a little too over filled with bean sprouts in the middle. They tend to not put a lot of lettuce, and one time we tried asking for more they said no. However, my most recent visit we asked for an extra side of lettuce. they ended up saying yes and giving us more. Overall I've always had good experiences here and this is what it sounds like.

The pho is so good I forgot to take a picture! I ordered number 32: a solid beef combo. The beef meatballs and brisket were really good. I loved how flavorful the broth was too. Service was super quick for a Sunday night. I ordered a large bowl and it was quite a portion. I'd definitely make my way back here!

Hands down the best pho I've had in a long time since moving to CA. Little home in the wall spot out of the big city (the area isn't the greatest lol) but the service was friendly, the broth was to die for and the portions were amazing! If you need a good bowl of pho go here!!

Love love love the two that work here. Them alone make the 4-5 star rating. Kind, friendly, quick, customer centered. They have a good selection and everything is tasty. Some of my favorites: 66, 69, 45, 2,

I've been searching for a good Vietnamese spot for delivery on those lazy days, and I think I finally found the place! My husband and I ordered the banh khot, Pho Tai Chin (steak and brisket pho), and the combination #1 rice plate (pork, fried egg, egg rolls, fried chicken, and rice). The food arrived hot and well-packed, and everything was full of flavor. The banh khot wasn't as crispy as I'd like, but that's to be expected with having it delivery - a quick pop in the air fryer and it came out perfectly golden and crunchy. The pho was really good too - savory , tender brisket and steak slices, and plenty of fresh herbs and toppings on the side. The combination rice plate might've been my fav - so much variety on one plate, and each item tasted great on its own. The pork was juicy, the fried chicken had a nice crunch, the egg rolls were flavorful, and the fried egg tied everything together. They also did not skimp on the meat, which I really appreciate. Overall I loved being able to get this delivered but I can only imagine how much better it will be when I come in to eat it fresh. Definitely a spot I'll be ordering from again!

Pho Golden hits the spot! The street parking requires a bit of a hunt but not impossible. I was greeted immediately as soon as I entered. The inside is what I'd expect from a family run pho restaurant (you know it's gonna be good!!). I got the large pho dac biet. Portions were generous and it was delicious! (Note: $15 order or above for credit cards). Super glad I found this spot. Will be back again for more pho if I'm ever in the area again.

Oh, they switched out Vietnamese cafes here. It used to be called An Chi, and I remember ordering greasy dumplings called Banh Khot Thit Nuong, which I remember were described as veggie mini-pancakes with BBQ pork. I wasn't a fan, but now it's more clearly a pho house. Smart move if you ask me because who doesn't like noodles and beef? Besides, I like supporting local businesses in the Excelsior because they don't get the love the Mission does. Having walked from the Mission, I was feeling quite peckish, so I ordered the $16.50 Large Pho Tai Chin, a big bowl of beef noodle soup with sliced steak and brisket. The meat slices were hearty, I took full advantage of the requisite trinity of basil leaves, bean sprouts, and sliced jalapeño to give the soup depth in flavor (Photo 10). The combination worked quite well together, and I was slurping until the cows came home. Pretty tasty and no dumplings in sight. FOOD - 4 stars...beef pho that satisfies, decent broth AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious though on the sparse side SERVICE - 3.5 stars...quiet and unobtrusive TOTAL - 4 stars...good that they focus on the pho RELATED - Exploring the Outer Mission? Solid lunch spot. I live nearby so it's a good option. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, it's pretty standard Vietnamese. No wait on a Tuesday at lunchtime. They serve a pandan tea that is really tasty and lightly sweet. * Seafood crepe - 3 stars. Nice crisp, but shrimp didn't seem the most fresh. * Beef pho - 4 stars.

First of, I've been coming all week have been ordering the same dish. #35 pho with brisket and beef balls medium. The food has always been good. It's pouring outside today and I decided to get a large#35. The bowl came out to be the same size and when I was paying the cashier told me that the size they gave me was a large, so I proceeded to ask to see what a regular size bowl looked like for a comparison, he just persisted that mine was a large bowl and proceeded to to charge me for the large bowl and kept apologizing unable to show me what a regular size bowl looks like. I take photos of all the food I eat and the bowl size are definitely the same. Sound dumb for arguing over $1.50 but just give me what I paid for.... They were just arguing the entire time I was there out loud and a bowl of pho took 15 mins to arrive. I don't mind paying for what I ordered, but I refuse to be lied to. This will definitely be my last time here.

    Garlic noodles with grilled beef

I was surprised to see a new place taking over An Chi and having such high ratings. 4.4 stars in these streets is really good so I had to try. I ordered over the phone and was told 15 minutes. They also take card, the lady was nice. Upon opening the goods, I was surprised at the portion they gave. Don't be deterred by the price because they make up for it in portion size! I was pretty surprised to how filled the box was. Everything smelled so good. Garlic noodles with grilled beef - So I did not expect grilled beef to be beef rolls. At first I was opposed to it but then I bit into it and it was so good. I can't tell what was rolled in it but it tasted like lemongrass. Totally different than other places but I'm all for it! The garlic noodles didn't taste garlicky or buttery so could have been better. Vermicelli with pork and egg roll- Standard stuff but they give a bigger eggroll than other places. The meat was also cooked well. The only thing for me is that the fish sauce is spicy. I wish they didn't make it spicy. Banh hoi chao tom, nem nuong, bo cuon hang - I had no idea what this was when I ordered it other than, it has a variety of things. I'd say if you like a variety, this is the one to get. It had the beef rolls, shrimp with sugarcane (this tasted like the fried shrimps at dim sum), and sausage. This was definitely good for 2 meals! I saw that they also have catering and after this experience, I'm definitely going to remember them the next time I have a potluck. Definitely give this place a try when in the area!

Edited my original post from last year since was taken down: If you stumble here, parking is slightly difficult, but is better after 6pm. They're hidden directly behind the bus station. Convenient if you take the bus. This is a good stop to warm up your cold tummy. I've been here so many times now thus far before deciding to write this review. Inside is visually clean, has an authentic vibe with friendly staff. The food is decent. Plenty of selections. Portions seem to vary. I'd say the banh cuon would be very little food to fill compared to the noodle bowls. So if you're hungry, hit up a bowl of warm noodles like myself. Their tea tastes very good in comparison to other places. I believe coconut flavor is added in. Clever. Will come back to try more dishes in the near future.

Parking around this restaurant is kind of hard to find. We managed to find a metered parking spot several blocks away. However, bus #14 stops right out of the restaurant and bus #29 stops couple blocks away. Upon entering restaurant, a friendly waiter greeted and seated us right away. They have an extensive menu. We ordered the Seafood Noodle Soup, Banh Khot ( Small shrimp pancakes), and Banh Xeo ( Rice Flour Crepe). The food came out in a timely manner. The Seafood Noodle was piping hot. It came with a side bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeños. The Banh Khot and Banh Xeo were both crispy. Both of these dishes came with sides of lettuce, herbs, and fish sauce with pickled carrots. The Banh Khot had shrimp in them. Banh Xeo had Chinese bbq pork , shrimp, and bean sprouts in it. Out of these three items that we ordered. The least favorite was the Banh Xeo. It normally comes with regular pork, not bbq pork. It was on the bland side. They were generous with the portions and the prices were fairly reasonable. We will be back to try their other entrees.

Perfect on a rainy day, amazing broth

We've heard about the lines and how it sells out quick as well, so we came for a late lunch at 2:30pm. The line didn't look too bad at first until I learned that there are only 11 seats exactly inside and only 2 people running the whole show. Having eaten nothing yet, this two and a half hour line did a number on us. We were so hungry that I left the line to quickly pick up some takoyaki to snack on while we waited. Once you finally get to the front, you order at the kiosk and everything is entirely self-serviced from getting seated to picking up your order. When we finally got our food, we were disappointed by how broken our soba was and how many clumps we found as well. The soba itself was also mediocre and not worth the hype. I got the scallop kakiage and while it was good some pieces were undercooked like my eggplant and that was really hard to eat. The food wasn't terrible, but not great and definitely not worth the wait and hassle. A pass for me :(

My only real complaint was the seating arrangement. My wife and I were seated at a shared counter-style table that was divided by a glass partition. I personally prefer a little more privacy while dining, so that took away from the experience. I won't comment on the wait time because that's pretty normal for popular restaurants in San Francisco. Menu is relatively the same as Dumpling Home featuring my faves like the numb and spicy XLB and the sheng jian bao. Both very delicious! The remainder of the dishes we got were also good. I will say the green beans left me wanting a bit more from it. But overall, my party had a nice, fulfilling meal. Dumpling Home will always be my favorite (still prefer it a TINY bit), but because there is less of a crowd, service was amazing! I definitely wouldn't mind coming back considering there the difference in wait time to Dumpling Home.

If you're not able to squeeze into the first wave, the wait is upwards of 2 hours! FOOD: We ordered one galbi jim with extra noodles and rice cakes and a separate garlic noodles for a party of 5. While we initially thought we could finish two galbi jims, our server cautioned us against it, referencing the healthy portion size. We were glad we took her advice because everyone was stuffed by the end of our meal. Their galbi jim was flavorful, with extremely tender beef and chewy rice cakes. We ordered the lowest level of spiciness and while there was still a kick, it was extremely manageable. SERVICE: We were the first to be seated and our galbi jim took almost 20 minutes to come out while others waited even longer. However, they comped our garlic noodles and apologized for turning waits. Overall, I'd definitely return if I'm able to get into the first wave of seating.

Typically what I saw was they do waves of seating and ordering so if you aren't there right at open/when they fill up, plan to write your name down and grab a drink nearby. Once we got seated, they were pretty prompt to give us utensils, napkins, cups, and water. The two of us shared the Braise Beef Galbi Stew. It's more than enough for 2 people to go home in food comas (with some food remaining) and for 3 to be sufficiently full. If you have big eaters, order an app alongside if you have 3 people. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy! I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
