    Shrimp Garlic Noodle

I really liked this place! Have been trying to find a good lowkey Vietnamese place and this place checked all the boxes. The fresh spring rolls were so fresh and the sauce was fantastic. The shrimp garlic noodle plate was also delicious. I tried my friends pho broth and it was delicious. Our waiter was great too even thought the language barrier was a bit tough, he gave solid reccomendation and great service. I'll be back!!

So far my go to for solid Vietnamese food. I standard order is my go to shrimp noodle rolls, bun bo rei, pho, and tried the garlic noodles with beef. All so good! The bun bo rei was really spicy, which I love. The meat and noodles for both soups were great and the broths super flavorful. The garlic noodles were perfect along with the steak. Def doesn't disappoint.

After our visit of the Monet & Venice exhibit at de Young Museum this morning, we opted for pho. We googled and found the Saigon BBQ Noodle House. Seem to be it has a very good review on Yelp. So we drove and were lucky to find a street parking on the busy street of Irving. We got our table easily as it was not full yet at noon. The server & owner Dan gave us an enormous menu like a book. There was many selection of food to choose from dry, soup and cold food. For appetizer we ordered the Fried Squid. It was deep fried battered small squid. I did not eat the light crispy batter just the small tender squid. I ordered the Special Soup #1, my friends ordered the Rice Plate #42 and Rice Plate # 27 with steam rice instead. I enjoyed my seafood pho. One friend recognized Dan is the father with two sons who were helping him. They used to have a restaurant in Brisbane and they confirmed. They exchanged talk and said what a small world. Overall good food, clean dining room & nice wall decor. Service is exemplary. For casual restaurant and comfort food, this is the restaurant to go with family and friends. We don't mind returning.

I've always passed this place and never really looked inside. I saw on yelp it had positive reviews and decided to give it a try, I always dine in at restaurants on this block or nearby and I can't believe it took this long to finally try it! I was surprised how clean & spacious this place was cause from the outside I wouldn't have expected. The service was great, very quick and helpful. Both the bun Bo hue and rice plate were good! Definitely recommend both!! The bbh perfect amount of spice and the rice plate had a pretty large portion!

A gem! Amazing service - they are a nice, attentive, and friendly from the get go. Ordered the pho #1 which had incredible broth. There were a lot of different meats and they don't go light on the noodles. The vermicelli with egg roll, chicken was delicious. They give a large slab of chicken and shrimp. We wanted a bit more noodles but overall this dish was a hit!

Food 4/5 We ordered bun rieu and broken rice. The bun rieu flavor is good but they didn't have any of the crab meatballs, which is my fav in the dish. Broken rice dish was good, fav protein was the chicken, the beef and pork tasted a little dry, would re-order though. Service 4/5 Usual service Ambiance 4.5/5 I like how spacious the restaurant is and the tables can be arranged for all party sizes.

The food was very yummy! I ordered dishes I've never had before like the seafood clay pot rice and catfish clay pot. Even though the prices are higher than across the street, I think the special dishes are worth it. However, the portion size for the seafood clay pot rice is too small for $18. It wasn't enough rice for both my dad and me, even though $18 would be a large size for Chinese clay pot. However, the lemongrass and turmeric sauce they used for the Vietnamese seafood clay pot rice is very unique and yummy. The rice is very flavorful and the bottom is crispy. It came with onions, 2 pieces of mussels, 3 pieces of squid, 2 fish balls, and a few pieces of shrimp. The portion size for the catfish clay pot is reasonable. It came with 2 pieces of tail and 4 big pieces. The sauce was very favorable and yummy. I definitely recommend the catfish clay pot since it's something I couldn't order somewhere else. I asked for no spicy so unsure if it's normally spicy because another restaurant I ate this at had way too much black pepper which overpowered the fish taste, but not here because I tasted the yummy fish with the yummy sauce! No wait on a Saturday afternoon. I will come back to try more of the entrees!

This place is my favorite because their rice noodle shrimp and grilled chicken with egg rolls are outstanding.

Summary: Tasty, wallet-friendly Vietnamese Details: Huge menu of tasty, classic Vietnamese eats at wallet-friendly prices, with generous portions. What else could you ask for? The bun rieu I got had good flavor, with a solid assortment of odds and ends inside, and the pho my wife ordered was plenty enjoyable as well. And while I prefer the pho overall at Golden Star due to their more-balanced broth and more tender cuts of meat, the overall pho at Saigon has a bit more intensity of flavor due to a broth that's more salted than we'd like on its own, but that works well as a whole. And for better or worse, depending on your preference, the rice noodles here are a bit more on the firm side: an al dente vermicelli, if there's such a thing. Most other pho spots are on the springier or even soggy side, while Saigon's has almost that similar pasta-like undercooked quality to it, while simultaneously somehow not getting soggy even after sitting in broth for extended periods of time. Accessibility: Plenty of accessible seating, with space to move around. You'll likely have a harder time finding accessible parking outside.

I love com tam!! This is one of the few places in sf I found which serve it with broken rice instead of normal rice. The chicken was beautifully seasoned and not dry at all, rice was chewy and perfectly cooked, and I love the fish sauce here. I do wish it came with pickled vegetables but the pork cake and shrimp cake were both super yummy. I would 10/10 come back for this dish again and next time I would eat it in the restaurant so it's even fresher! Ratings Chicken broken rice (Com Tam): 5/5

Nice wall wall. Easy to clean walls if needed.

I went here a while ago year or 2 ago but I forgot to post my review. Although we made reservations, it was not needed since the restaurant was not full when it first opened for service. This is family-owned restaurant known for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine and friendly service. We were greeted by every warm and friendly gentlemen that took us to our seats and we told him it was our first time here and asked for recommendations. We ordered three dishes to try out. I forgot their names, but you can see the photos, one appetizer like an egg pancake light, a garlic noodle dish and a clay pot dish. All were tasty from what I recalled. Food and service was good. We were able to carry a conversation easily.

    Bún bò huế
    Isabelle V.

My favorite bún bò huế in the city, maybe even the Bay. The owner is a lovely older Vietnamese gentleman who always makes me and guests feel at home, I've returned so many times that is first question to me is "Con ăn bún bò huế hả?" (You're eating bun bo hue right?). Parental approved too. As a Vietnamese person from OC, the haven of Vietnamese cuisine, I am picky about my BBH, and I'm especially skeptical of Vietnamese food in San Francisco. And, unfortunately, many BBHs I've had here have been simply no good. But Saigon BBQ Noodle House pleasantly surprised me, and now I am a loyal fan. Here's why: As any good BBH should be, it has strong, fragrant lemongrass flavor, plentiful spice without being overwhelming , and all the necessary and best toppings that are needed to have a good BBH -- soft tendon, thinly sliced rare beef and beef shank, pork sausage (chả), and even blood sausage (huyết). Wish we had some giò heo (pork hocks), but I am very pleased by the richness of the soup stock. It is rare that you have a BBH that is spicy, umami, and lemongrass-y enough; too often, I get a weird beef broth with some chili sate as an afterthought, but the quintessential flavor of the BBH is truly present here. Other thing I enjoyed: Pork Egg rolls Reason for 4 stars (Would give 4.5 if could)-- Other dishes have not tried, and would not recommend the bún bò xào, as the vermicelli is too thin and served hot, which feels weird for a bún dish that I typically expect to be cold and fresh. Also, the price is SO reasonable! (~$16 per bowl after tax) Overall though, I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for some yummy noodle soup in the city!

Vietnamese food will always be my favorite kind. And I love places that offer more than just pho and rice plates. There's a lot of competition on Irving but Saigon definitely has a more authentic feel to the restaurant. Food comes out fairly quick and tastes amazing. Their dishes are perfect for sharing or even being that one big meal of the day. Hours may be a little confusing but if you're looking through the window a worker will eventually come out and ask if you want to come inside. So you better say yes

Do they take reservations for large parties (10 people)?

Hi, they do not take reservations in general. I only know since we tried last weekend. Lol! But they do have rabies that can fit that many.

What is this restaurant's health score? It's not searchable on the SF health dept website.

They've only been open since January. This might be the reason you can't find the health score.

It didn't have a ton of flavor, but the texture was good. You can watch the chefs working right behind the counter, which is kind of cool. The whole meal came out to a little over 40 dollars after tax, so expect to pay a bit more for the experience. Overall, it's a cool spot to get fresh clean soba and it's close to Super Mira.

I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Place is not the safest, I saw some folks trying to open the parked cars on that street hoping to find one that was unlocked . Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

It's more than enough for 2 people to go home in food comas (with some food remaining) and for 3 to be sufficiently full. If you have big eaters, order an app alongside if you have 3 people. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy! I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
