Best pho place I've been to in Philly, and for sure top 5 in America tbh. It's clear cut- you get a solid amount of meat, rice noodles, and accompaniments, and it's inexpensively priced. Service is extremely quick, and they've got the motions down with seating, serving, and you pay when you're ready at the front. Plenty of seating, never a wait! I always get the Pho Dac Biet, because I love tripe and tendon. Other plus- I've asked if they add MSG to their broth- they said no! It's a synthetic additive commonly used at pho places to stimulate appetite and addiction. I've been coming here regularly for about a decade at this point. I usually get pork chops over rice in the summer and meat ball + brisket pho in the colder months. The cool and crisp pickled carrots and radish that come on the side with pork chop rice feel great in your mouth in the heat of summer. A bowl of pho broth will quickly warm up your mind, body, and soul when it is cold outside. It feels like the portions have gotten smaller since the onset of the pandemic. My family arrived in Philly and naturally, my dad wanted something familiar (he was also disappointed in his Pho). Our bowls took quite some time to arrive to our tables, which I always felt these places are pretty quick considering the main staple is Pho with whatever variation they have. Then, I stuck my chopsticks in and their noodles was still hard. The broth wasn't hot enough to soften them. As for taste, take the basic pho with beef and boil it with just water. Other tidbits, they forgot my drink. My mum's pork chop was smaller compared to other restaurants (this is her go-to). Interesting to find this joint in a small shopping center where it shares its entrance with other stores and a supermarket. It seemed to look pretty authentic so was excited to give it a try. We ordered 2 orders of spring rolls which were OK. Definitely overpriced when it's $5.50 for 2 pieces. The large pho was actually quite large but we didn't like the brisket meat as it had a long ring of fat alongside the edges that all tangled together. It didn't look very appealing. The food is good, but not great. The taste is pretty on par with the other local viet restaurants, so there isnt anything that separates it from them. However, the prices are significantly cheaper by $2-3 on each dish. And the location is part of a small (but dilapidated) shopping center, which includes a large parking lot. This is a godsend for South Philly. The reason for my low-rated review is for the service and the sanitation issues I witnessed. For my personal taste, I find that cheaper Asian restaurants tend to have poorer service. As such, we were constantly rushed throughout our meal even though half the restaurant was empty, we were never asked/given water, and even before we sat down, they asked if we were ready to order. I did not find anything about the experience enjoyable, and the food was not good enough to overcompensate their rating. Additionally, on several occasions, I saw staff handling money, sneezing into their hands, and of the like, and then handling or serving customers' food without washing their hands!!! If only I could give negative star for this review. I came in right after they are open to order summer rolls from the menu. I was told it took 15 minutes. While I was waiting I observed that the employees were doing meal preparation in the dining area which I don't think appropriate. One guy lit up incense for his beliefs right by the entrance door so I could smell the incense by the door. This is among the top Vietnamese food places in Philadelphia that I would recommend. As a Vietnamese person, I find their food to be quite good and nicely presented. I always recommend the broken rice dish with charbroiled pork or a bowl of vermicelli and pork with egg rolls. There are plenty of good dishes to try. Also the drinks are good, I like their avocado smoothie a lot. The place is simply decorated and clean. The service is friendly and fast, unless you go on weekends when it is super crowded. One of my personal favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Philadelphia. It's located in a tiny Vietnamese supermarket plaza on Oregon Ave. Parking is plentiful and there usually isn't a wait at the restaurant. The restaurant is always filled with workers ready to seat you, take your order, and get you outta there within a reasonable amount of time. Especially if you're ordering the pho, this soup comes out within minutes AND it's warm and delicious. As another reviewer mentioned, if you decide to order a rice dish or vermicelli (rice noodle bowl), expect to wait a bit longer.. and by waiting that means watching your friend(s) finish their whole bowl of pho while you sit and wonder where your food is. On the bright side, you know your rice/noodle dish is made fresh. I love their pork vermicelli (I get it with the egg roll), the marinade on the meat is SO tasty and is perfectly balanced with the noodles and lettuce in the bowl. Additionally, their summer roll and egg roll appetizers are great starters before digging into your main dish. At under $10 per entree, you can't go wrong with these filling meals. The food came out in lighting speed. No more than 4-5 mins after I placed my order- I had a steaming hot bowl of Pho in front of me. **This is definitely a plus when considering somewhere to eat on lunch break** The Pho was good, not great in my opinion. Although. maybe I just picked the wrong combination of meats for my tastebuds. The well done flank was a tad dry, and the fat brisket was unedible. I pictured melt-in- your-mouth fatty, tender pieces of brisket. What I got was large, stringy, chewy gag-worthy fat pieces. I picked all of these out of my meal after attempting to chew and swallow the first piece. Even with the brisket fiasco, the bowl of Pho filled me up. It was warm and flavorful. One thing that bothered me was that there were no labels in english on the condiments on the table. I recognize that alot of Vietnamese eat here and they don't need them, but the rest of us who can't read vietnamese do! It would have been appeciated. Probably the worst Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. I'm only here visiting and decided to stop by seeing that they had pretty good reviews. Here's what we got. Fresh spring roll without shrimp. Spring rolls had no mint, overstuffed with soggy noodles and what looked like iceberg lettuce. Only a few slices of pork that was cooked to oblivion. Peanut sauce was overly salty too. My family Also got Hu Tien Nam Vang and Hu Tien My Tho, only real difference was the noodles, one had the glass noodles and the other regular rice noodles. Why even name it something different. Broth was bland and had a total of 2 shrimp, 2 liver slices, 3 fish balls, and 3-4 super thick slices of the over cooked pork. Yeah that wasn't good either. And the liver slices tasted like it was turning too. I got a large Pho w/ slices rare beef and fatty brisket with the beef on the side and extra beef and extra beef balls. I got 5 slices of fat brisket and the rare beef on the side with extra beef had maybe 10 slices total. All of it cut so thick that it chewy as hell. The broth was almost tan where a good pho broth should be a rich brown. Broth from a scale of 1-10 was a 2. And service? We just got sat down and one of the servers stood at the table already expecting us to order, we asked him to give us a few min. And within the next 2 min, 2 other servers came by asking for our orders. It's so uncomfortable to feel rushed while dining in any restaurant. And one of those guys was grumpy as heck. One last thing, on Yelp the hours are til 10pm. They turned off their open sign at 8:20pm. And said they close at 9pm. I've never see any business do that. Shows how much they really care about their customers. A party of 6 came in at 8:30 and was rushed to have their order taken. I'm in the restaurant industry, everything that Here was just bad. Pho Ha Saigon is located in an as yet not redeveloped part of South Philly on Oregon Avenue. It is part of a small strip commercial center attached to the old Oregon Market. This location is a satellite of the primary Vietnamese area on Washington Avenue, and it was a smart move to get to this place before the big money arrived to gentrify the neighborhood. The house itself is very similar to most of the other Vietnamese kitchens, in that it has a large floor plan with basic amenities; designed more like a cafeteria than a comfortable hang around restaurant. Tables and chairs are utilitarian and are appropriate for the speed service provided by the friendly staff. The menu covers a broad cross section of VN cuisine, from Pho and Bun to Vermicelli and Broken Rice dishes. Prices are reasonable in light of the probable rent on the property. It is easy to get completely stuffed for less than $10. While I normally start an exploration of a new Vietnamese house with a bowl of Pho, I broke out of the mold by ordering Broken Rice with Grilled Chicken for a lunch entre, and an app of Summer Rolls. My companion went with a Vermicelli plate that included a sampling of Shrimp, Pork, Beef, Tofu, and a Fried Spring Roll. Everything was good, but the most memorable pieces of our meals were the Grilled Pork and Shrimp, and the Spring Roll. They were tasty and brought smiles to our faces. The rest was decent, but no better than the fare offered by most other shops. I found the butterflied Chicken Thigh to be a touch under marinated and undercooked. Thus, the skin and thicker aspects of the meat were not right for consumption. A few more minutes on the grill would have solved this. Copious squirts of Sriracha and Hoisin helped.
