The restaurant is in a strip mall surrounded by two Indian eateries and an Indian grocery store. There is lots of parking. It's a decent size and it was clean and most of its customers on a Sunday at lunchtime were Asian. Our servers were two young men and they were very attentive. We had the Vietnamese crepes (our favorites) that came with two smaller ones (instead of a large). The crepes were a bit thin and skimpy on the shrimp (lots of bean sprouts and maybe one shrimp cut in half in each crepe). My husband had beef pho, wish he said was tasty but lacking a decent amount of beef and tendon. I had the bun cha (rice vermicelli) with pork and fried spring rolls. The rolls were not tasty. And my dish had two small slices of pork and so many noodles I brought home a container of noodles and veggies (after scarfing down my two pieces of meat). Being from South Florida, and having travelled to Vietnam last spring, we have eaten lots of Vietnamese food. While the food was not bad, it could have been better by starting with heartier portions for the price. Lunch for 2 was about $50 including tax and tip. P.S. Overall: Great food, but the service and ambience needs improvement. Ambience: I have been to Pho Hanoi many times and I can comfortably say that this restaurant's interior has not changed unlike its neighbor Teastori. They have a fish tank and a tv in the seated area but beware the floor can be slippery sometimes. Service: You are seated fairly quickly, but it takes forever to get water, menus, and get your order taken. As much as I would love to go here for lunch, I cannot go because a one hour lunch break is not enough time, even if you work 5 minutes away. They are nice but understaffed and the service definitely needs improvement. Food: I think their food is pretty good! If it wasn't, I would come here. I like their pho, crispy noodles, and curry! Had a craving for bahn mi and after seeing reviews on Google raving about them decided to give it a try. Ordered the grilled pork and the stir fried beef. They somehow mixed up the order and gave me BBQ Pork (#6) unfortunately I didn't not realize until I got home. Total came out to a little over $15. The bahn mi themselves were quite disappointing. Both were light on meat, the pork literally had 4 thin slices. The beef had the texture of steamed meat (you know when the pan gets overcrowded and it doesn't sear properly and instead leaks out juice?). The carrots did not taste pickled (despite what the menu stated, there's no diakon). Both bahn mi were missing the pate, mayo and jalapeno. The bread was the only redeeming feature. read more

The restaurant itself is small and a bit dingy, but that wouldn't stop me from eating there. What would stop me is probably that I found a hair in my pho noodles (carry out order). Unfortunate because the other food (fresh rolls) seemed authentic and well made. The Pho was okay, but the dining experience was ruined by something that beeped every 5 seconds in the back of the dining room. I asked the waiter about it and he apologized and said sorry they have to have someone in to fix it. I tried this place out on a Friday night with some friends. It wasn't too crowded and had a large menu to choose from. I ultimately went with the Thai curry chicken, with white meat chicken, carrots, bamboo shoots, onions, water chestnuts, and celery in coconut milk curry sauce with yellow rice. What a great employee to have. I told her what I was wanting and she shared her recommendations. I got the Bun Bo Hue and liked it. It was a good portion for the price. For some reason I like this restaurant a lot. I enjoy sitting there and eat my favorite bahn mi sandwich. If you are coming for pho, I must say I've had better ones but still it is comforting to have a bowl of pho here especially on a rainy day! As a Vietnamese person, I needed to get my Vietnamese fix and found this place. Compared to other Pho places in Gainesville, I appreciated the menu and more authentic feel when searching so I was excited to try the place out. Definitely owned by Vietnamese people. The food tasted great, was very happy to be able to get Vietnamese food that aren't found elsewhere. There wasn't anything too special about the food, tasted as expected but nothing that blew my mind. Where the restaurant falls short for me was the service. There was only one server for the entire establishment which for the amount of foot traffic that comes in was fine but he appeared to be very nonchalant and unenthusiastic. Many tables were left uncleared even up to 30 mins after the other customers had paid and left and the server was just walking around slowly instead of seeming to make any effort to clean with speed and only checked on us twice. My friend is feeling under the weather so I thought some pho would help revitalize her and I was RIGHT!!!! Takeout pho is a blast because you get a quart container of BROTH along with a little box filled with a literal brick of noodles, your proteins, some basil, jalapeño, lime and hoisin. And the bean sprouts. Then you grab a bowl, make your perfect little plate and start slurping. it's too good. Our health bars instantly went back up. I will add that the jalapeño is sliced big as hell, which sort of felt like a fun challenge to see how much heat you could stand and made for a fun eating experience. Stop by Gainesville for the historic museum and decided top stop at this restaurant before hit the road. The restaurant is at strip plaza. Many students has eat here. For the local people, this is good enough. However, for big city out of town people may not good enough. Price is reasonable for the restaurant. It is at the average side. We have special combinations Pho and grilled pork rice. The ingredients is good but the pho is not my personal liking. Pho is very personal to each individual. Very hard to find one pho all people like. The grilled pork may need some work. It need to marinate better and grilled with slightly burn at the edge. The way they have it can be improved. The service is ok. I think by separate the main lobby from dinning hall may not be a good ideal. We have been going here twice a week through the entire Covid debacle and they forgot the lime, jalapeno, sprouts and herbs in the pho, and wouldn't give us any credit or bring it to us even though we're across the street. Obviously they have zero understanding of how the food industry works, as a regular customer is worth gold. They don't care AT ALL about customers. "Just a side item, we can't give you any credit." The broth itself was more tasteful than many other pho places i've tried around Gainesville, but the meat/ toppings were stingier than other places I've tried as well. Another waiter began to being our food out. He asked if we needed anything else, and I told him I only needed my food. He said "it's coming out in just a minute." Once I told him, he said the ticket had gotten wet and my food was never started. I told him to forget the order - my party was almost done eating - I didn't want to make everyone wait while they started cooking my food. There was a minimal attempt at an apology and no one ever came over after that to apologize or talk about the issue that I never got my food or order. We paid the ticket and left.y party all shared some of their food with me, and what I had tasted good - potato virrey, pork sandwich, and some pho. Pho Hanoi has been around for a while. I've gotten food here out of convenience. I don't think they are of great quality but their pricing is decent and the service is good. On my last visit here, I ordered a bowl of pho and grilled pork. The grilled pork was a complete disappointment. No one at my table wanted to try it. It was poorly cooked and did not have much seasoning to it. I've had grilled pork at other Vietnamese restaurants and the traditional way to cook it is breath-taking. Don't order the grilled pork here. The large bowl of pho with eye round steak was decent. Their meat isn't rare when it comes out. It is already being cooked by the broth so when you're halfway eating it, you notice your steak is extremely tough. I would not recommend dining here. read more

If I had to compare my first time at Pho Hanoi versus this time, I would have to say Pho Hanoi's quality and taste have upgraded a lot. However, since I was raised up with Vietnamese cuisine/dishes, Pho Hanoi's dishes are still mediocre. My bf and I were short on time for lunch and we both didn't want to make food so it was convenient that we wanted pho. The closest pho place to our place was pho Hanoi and we couldn't go out of our way to go somewhere else. Since it was still morning timeish and I love coffee, I had to get their cafe sua da ($2.75). I also ended up ordering their pho tai nam ($8.50). The pho tai nam was pretty good. There was a lot of meats and fresh veggies on the side. I would have to say that it was low on noodles but it could be me just loving vermicelli noodles. It was soothing and great for that rainy day. In comparison to my first time at pho Hanoi, my dad and I didn't like it and the soup had something off. So I was honestly surprised how much they have improved. Just had a late lunch here after not having dined here in months and hence got to see the expansion/renovations. The addition of more space plus the general renovation of the atmosphere has brought about a dining space with a brighter, more creative, feel somewhat akin to Lollicup. The new addition is really nice and thus is a game changer: no longer is this somewhere you just come for the food but actually an inviting, cool, fun, restaurant. The food is pretty much the same: it's decent Viet food but not up to par with the Viet places on East Colonial Drive in Orlando or a place I've come to love in Daytona (Pho Saigon). Their pho is alright and their rice platters are pretty good but just missing that hard to describe but essential salty-crispiness you expect to find and also missing some more exotic dishes like com chiên cá mán: the variety and general tenor of cooking is more Americanized here than at the better East Colonial Drive places. Still, it's Gainesville and they have to cater to the customers they have and those customers' palates. It could be better, but they're clearly trying and investing more and more in every sense of the word in their business. I'm pleased with the renovations and here's hoping the food will continue to improve, too. They do have bánh mì now, also, which is good. One other thing: they still play soft-pop hits of the 80s on the stereo--Whitney and Phil Collins--instead of Viet-pop. I would really really like to hear Viet-pop hear instead of the worst of American pop music, you know? It would greatly improve the experience. Compared to Vietnamese food in Tampa or Orlando, Pho Hanoi would be about three stars. However, for Gainesville, there are only a few places to choose from and Pho Hanoi and Taste of Saigon are the best. There are no fusion items here, it is all Vietnamese home cooking, everyday food that people like to eat. It is not creative or pretentious. They left the pork trotters and blood cubes off of the menu, so it would not scare the college students. My favorite items here are any of the appetizers, the curry chicken on noodles, and their grilled pork chop on rice. My favorite item is their shredded chicken salad. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also very good. I am missing items that they do not have on their menu like; Bun Bo Hue (spicy soup with thicker noodles), Bo Kho (beef stew with baguette), and the amazing Banh Mi. The spiderwebs in the ceiling still creep me out. Bun noodle bowls and salad bowls are supposed to be served cold. The meat on top is either piping hot or room temperature, depending on how the cook wants it to be served. You put the nuoc cham (fish based sauce) on top of the bowl and mix it together, and you can add additional sauces like hoisen and chunky sriracha. You will also want to add the sauces into any of the other dishes, that is what they are meant for. When you order the "Fresh Spring Rolls" (goi cuon), it comes with a peanut sauce in most American restaurants. For the best flavor, add the chunky hot sauce into the peanut sauce, and if it is not salty enough add some hoisen. This sauce is made from broth/water, heated peanut butter, and hoisen sauce with spices. You can also make it easily at home in the microwave. I give them props for not selling Chinese food or sushi here. Keep it real! read more
