I've been coming here a lot. The Pho soup is hearty, flavorful, hot, and comes with the regular suspects: bean sprouts, sliced jalapeno peppers, basil, and dandelion leaves. They serve other VietNamese dishes as well, spring rolls and summer rolls, vermicelli plates with meat. I will continue to visit this place as it is among my favorites for eating Pho. I only wish they would improve the look of their aquarium. Years back, me being a specialist in aquariums, I asked the owner if he would like me to assist in making improvements it, as it was in a dire state. He arrogantly said no, and I left. He has since made improvements to it, but it still has no filter and looks gloomy. Imperial Fried Rice $13 (5/5 NOMs). All hail the emperor!. Look at how awesome this looks! My new favorite dish at this place! Its a mix of super nomnom grilled chicken with spicy fried rice inside tortilla and topped with sunny side up egg. Anything with egg on top is super nomnom in my book. I love asian dishes that come with fish sauce. Went well with mixing everything together so the rice is more wet and flavorful. Got to make sure there a little bit of everything in every bite. Food is good and service is quick but once they take your order and bring you your food they forget about you. Not a lot of an ambiance. When you walk in, there are a lot of tables, with a seating arrangement similar to a buffet. The place on a Sunday afternoon wasn't crowded, but respectably busy. They have a decent sized fish tank in the corner (but kind of dirty looking) and a dancing Buddha for decorum. They have your typical pho accompaniments already on the table (hoisin, soy sauce, sriracha, chili oil, salt n pepper, etc.). When you get seated they hand you a menu, which was kind of beat-up and had several pen edits crossing ingredients out. You can't beat the prices. In DC, you can get the same meal for two times the price. The menu consists of mostly beef pho dishes, with one chicken option, and then rice and vermicelli dishes if you're not feeling soupy. A small bowl of pho (which isn't that small) is about $7. The small is probably filling enough for lunch, unless you're really hungry, love pho, or feel like splurging the extra dollar to upgrade to the large. After ordering, they bring out your pho really fast - ~5 minutes. The vermicelli dish came out only a few minutes after. They also bring you the standard been sprouts, basil, limes, and jalapeño sides. The broth was flavorful but well balanced. There was no distinct spice that overpowered the dish. I didn't feel the need to add any additional sauces. The meat was also tender. Cash only. You have to go to the front to pay. While the food is four stars, taking the service and overall ambiance into account = three stars. read more

Still the BEST BROTH in town!!! Price is always right! And they NOW take credit cards!!!!! Meat & veggies are always fresh, big portion, cut thin with no fat on the chin and tai is tender. Best bang for your buck! They have been updating the decor a bit and relocated the bathroom entrances which is really nice! They have a huge koi fish tank to keep the kids entertained. Staff is always friendly! I never have to order they just bring me my usual every time. I visit Heip Hoa at least once week for lunch. They a quick so no worries getting back to the office. My local pho joint, and one of three solid Vietnamese places in the Georgia Avenue/University Boulevard area of Wheaton. The garden spring rolls are delicious, with a really good peanut dipping sauce. I ususally get the pho with eye of round and flank, and it always has well cooked meat and a great, clear broth. I order with extra onions and I highly suggest you do too. Prices are insanely low, usually between $8-10 per person, and a small pho is more than enough. True, the decor is shabby, but for these prices I'd rather have the money going to good food. Also, they do a good takeout pho, with all the components served separately to keep things fresh. This is my favorite place for pho. It is awesome here with great broth, noodles, meat, & fresh veggies. The price is right too at less than $20 for 2 when we get 2 soups (with no extra beverages - they give you free glasses of drinking water when you arrive). The non-pho noodle dish with sauce is also very good, as are the Vietnamese summer roles. They are usually playing an entertaining Vietnamese variety show on the one tv in the rear of the dining room, which adds to my enjoyments of the place. It is large with plenty of seating so we've never had to wait to sit down, and the pho comes quickly after ordering. One male waiter/cashier is usually there when we come in and he is really nice and seems like a kind person. I suggest checking this place out for an awesome meal! read more

Roll was an American Sub Roll purchased at Costco, mayo was American not Vietnamese mayo, vegetables barely marinated and sparse, chicken was good, but sparse. Will need to try other dishes for a final verdict, but the Bahn Mi was unauthentic and mostly bread. read more

Pho Hiep-Hoa was just OK. Its located in a shopping center in Wheaton that is a bit shady, and the parking is a major pain. As others have said the ambiance (or lack thereof) is pretty crappy- just a bunch of tables and one HD tv (tuned to a non HD channel of course) showing a soccer game that no one was watching. It is of course cash only (I assume they under report their taxes). The Pho ga is pretty good, and they are generous on the veggies and aromatics to go. I ordered 3 bowls of pho ga to go, and 2 orders of spring rolls to share. They actually gave me egg rolls stuffed with a lot of pork. I didnt mind, and they were pretty tasty, but it would have been a real dagger if I (or the other 2 people I bought for) were vegetarians. Get your order to go if you happen to be in the area and are craving pho, but do not go out of your way to get here, and def. do not eat it here. *** Loses a star for bathroom cleanliness as well. I ordered my food to go, then used the restroom quickly. Literally mid stream the lights went out, and only returned (about halfway) when I flushed the toilet in the dark. I may have been a little too harsh on this place. This location is awful for the decor and all that, however, the pho is quite similar to the other location. I have found that the main difference is the quality of meat. I had some take out pho from here (I didn't buy it which makes it better) and I had the chance to taste it without being distracted by the pooey ambiance. The pho tasted yummy; it has a flavorful broth. The meat was dry like it was the last time, but they give you a ginormous bag of fresh herbs and veggies. Not to say that makes up for the meat, but maybe you can try and order some thicker meat and see if it makes a difference. This place doesn't have too great of a review (unsure why), but I've personally been coming here quite often ever since I discovered it a 2 months ago.... I'm usually a very lazy person and would drive to the one 5 minutes away from my house, but something about the pho over here makes me willing to drive an extra 5 minutes to get to it! The price tag is definitely cheaper and I think the broth tastes great... Would definitely try something else here next time. This place was pretty good! The broth was nice, but not the best i've had - but pretty good nonetheless. The extra noodles and extra meat that i ordered was a nice portion too - something other places skimp on. But why just 1 star? Salmonella. Are you sure it was salmonella and not something else? Are you sure you got it from this place? 100% yes ( I come from a family and network of health professionals - but i didnt even have to ask them to know that what i had was in fact salmonella). A fever a couple days later and insane, astronomical diarrhea flushed through me for the next 5 days. It was a painful colonoscopic exorcism - the demon would come out unexpectedly and uncontrollably. It was the extra meat that i ordered. When it came to the table i immediately noticed that the broth that it was in was tinted red, as if the meat was still bleeding when put into the broth, and the meat was more raw than I've ever had it at any other pho. I thought to myself, 'whatever, it's going to cook in the broth eventually''. I avoided eating the extra meat until it was a nice cooked color. I realized i made a big mistake about 2 days later when the symptoms hit me like a roundhouse to the colon. With that said, at the time i was eating the soup i was in eu-'pho'-ria and i still love pho even after this mishap. The place is old. The bathrooms are filthy. It made me think if that's how they clean their bathrooms how do they treat the kitchen?? The service was okay... they do what they need to do yet walk away in the middle of you saying something. It may have to do with language barriers but they could still wait until you finish your sentence to walk away. My friend also was confused because when he ordered the pho, he got the P-10 which said "eye round and brisket" but when he got the order it had fat in it. He then asked which had no fat in it, and the gentleman said P-12 but on the menu it says "eye round and brisket" identical to P-10. The pho was ok. As more high quality places began opening in the area, I became dissatisfied by the fact that Pho Hiep Hoa was cash only, that they were regularly understaffed, that they didn't serve Thai tea (I understand this isn't Vietnamese but it's become a standard at a pho place), and I came to realize that the pho broth was above average, but not great. I do still believe the pho here is above and beyond that of places like Gourmet Inspirations, Pike Kitchen, and Pho Real, but unfortunately Mi La Cay is a block away and is just an overall better restaurant. read more

I think it's better than most places around the md area that I've been to so far. The broth is really tasty and you can taste the difference. It is a little pricier than other pho places that charges you $6.50 for a large but $7.50 isn't bad still. They also give you alot of bean sprouts, lime and basil. A family member insisted on coming here because the sign on the outside said "authentic Vietnamese food" *cue the eye roll* I ordered spring rolls as an appetizer and pho with beef tendon, brisket, ribeye, and tripe. I was hoping the appetizer would hold me over till the pho came out but to my disappointment, they served us freezer burned and partially frozen spring rolls. The pho was alright. I love pho and I would eat it anytime I can get my hands on it. It's a great comfort food. It's hard to find a good pho place since it's all over the place and everyone and their mother claims they have the best pho. I'm glad I finally had the chance to try out Pho Hiep Hoa because it definitely has my approval. The broth was delicious. It didn't needed anything extra on it order to make it perfect. I typically find a lot of pho place requires a little doctoring (oyster sauce, sriracha or fish sauce) on the soup to get it right but this place was spot on the first sip that I took. The broth even tasted great even after I added a huge amount of beansprouts and basil leaf. I've found some places their broth tends to get watered down after you add in your extra stuff ( basil leaf / beansprouts ) Portion here is a little smaller than most places that I've been but it's probably a good thing for me as I tend to over eat anyway. The tendons were cooked correctly. It wasn't chewy but instead it was soft and tender like how it should be. You will be surprised how many places gets it wrong. I love tendons so I almost always order an extra side of it. The overall place is almost your typical pho restaurants. It has open seating area that is very cafeteria like. Service was fast and we didn't had to wait long for our noodles.Overall I enjoy the noodle and I'll definitely be back for more pho and perhaps try out the other items on the menu. I just grabbed some pho from Pho Hiep Hoa last night. We were the only people there and we stepped in as they were getting ready to close for the night - I presume it's a family-operated restaurant. I almost started to feel guilty that I didn't order to carry out. But then another party of three walked in. Woo! I no longer felt pressured to stuff my mouth as quickly as I could and get out asap. We placed our order and just about instantly we were served. The gal sitting at the register came and refilled water glass once. The one downside is that this place only accepts cash. Who even carries cash around these days, you know? Despite the cash-only policy, Pho Hiep Hoa's about to become my favorite hangout spot in downtown Wheaton. I'd say it ranks in my top three Pho soup places because the broth of the soup is consistently flavorful, and the meat is very fresh and tender. Everything is balanced well. I also like that they offer the fresh garden rolls which are delicious with the brown sauce! The waiters keep to themselves but are friendly enough. Alrighty....I'm hungover and at work....whats the first thing I think about? PHO...but where? That's always the problem in this ethnic triangle of salvadorean, asian, and chicken delights! Pho Hiep Hoa is a place I would recomend because there is nothing like the visceral image from your memory about "THAT" first pho restaurant you've visted for the first time! The broth comes out searingly hot(my favoritebtw, because once it cools the smells and taste start to change), the noodles get to a nice consistency right away. Thoe coffee is strong and the spring rolls are crunchy and porky, or sticky from the rice paper and refreshingly cool! If you have a cold and want some pho, this place will create some homey goodness. The decor in the restaurant is minimal to say the least. It's clean, but uninviting. I've eaten in several time, but have learned to take advantage of this close spot to my house, and take away. They aren't as generous with their meat as some other places but the broth is tasty. They provided huge bowl, or if taking away, bags full of bean sprouts, mint, basil, and other herbs. The spicy sauce is good and all of it travels well. As with a lot of Pho places, this is not a place for vegetarians. If you go in at night the lighting will be over powered by a red neon wash, it feels a bit seedy. But everyone there is friendly and fast. I like to bring my roommate to make a mad dash inside to avoid dealing with the crazy parking lot in this strip mall.
