The heart of the restaurant seemed to go away with the previous owners. I've gone a few times since they left and the service and food seem to be lackluster. My last order was missing a spring roll. And the Pad Thai was off. I can't explain it but it seemed like it's quality went down. My recent order, I ordered a Thai milk tea boba and a mango boba and got two mango bobas and another strawberry sake of sorts I mean, I guess it's a score, but I didn't get the drink I asked for. The spring rolls had no vibrance, not even a few carrot sticks. Just light pork, cucumber and iceberg... before it used to have purples and yellows and pizzaz, you know what I'm talking about if you love spring rolls. I try not to write reviews I think might affect businesses in any negative way, but I tried to give this restaurant three chances before I finally decided to write my review. First time I visited, it was many years ago, almost 4 years ago. My order came out wrong and it was tasteless. But it was my first time and I thought it might've been just a mistake that they mixed my order and did not get it right. It was simply a veggie pho, however, they gave me meat pho broth with vegetables. **Vegetarian should mean only vegetarian, no meat, no animals broth and no meat. Just vegetarian!** I never went back because I did not like to spend money on bad quality food and at a place that doesn't not honor customer food requests. When I go dining out I would like to enjoy my meal safely because I am taking a break. After I got married, my husband tried to convince me that it was a good place because he had never had any issues. But at the same time he only orders the same dish. I decided to go with him, and after we ordered, our drinks this time never made it to the table. I was not so impressed by the customer service, but I thought maybe they are very busy and it was an honest mistake. Our orders were okay, I was very scared to order anything so I just got the fresh spring rolls because I can at least see what's in it. He got the usual order yellow shrimp curry. Because he is a pescatarian. No meat. Yesterday, a friend of ours invited us to go for pho. I was apprehensive about it but I thought it would be nice to have something warm like pho since it was a cold no night. I'll start with the service: We waited 20 minutes and no one came to take our order. I had to flag them down to get our order. The person who took our order did not take any notes. We orders two drinks, vegetarian egg rolls, one vegetarian yellow curry, one shrimp yellow curry, and one seafood (only shrimp) noodle special. One drink made it to the table, I got completely different order, the egg rolls were chicken egg rolls and they were ice cold, and we got chicken yellow curry. So the only thing that was right it was the veggie yellow curry. Everything else is a complete different order. We sent back the chicken curry to get a fresh shrimp yellow curry, and the egg rolls as well to get vegetarian cooked properly. It almost terrified me to find out they send back the yellow curry with chicken pieces and same broth with some shrimp. I send it back and I said we do not want it and we want it to be removed from our orders. They bring back a third bowl of shrimp curry and this time they swear it's fresh! I told them I do not want it and they need to remove it from our orders. We decided to share our orders and just call it a night. The nightmare continues. We found out the seafood special rice noodle pho had beef broth instead of just seafood broth. We were horrified by the entire experience. This was extremely disappointing and honestly scary. My partner and I eat at Pho Hoang at very least once a week. The chicken pho is our go to order almost every time, however, we do dabble with the Pad Thai with chicken occasionally, also delicious. Eat here if you're craving pho and don't want to be dissatisfied. I've been eating pho since the 1980's, grew up close to Little Saigon. I've eaten pho monthly, and after a few weeks that my body goes pho-less the cravings start. The worst thing (gastronomically) that can happen to me is being served pho that is tasteless, or not fresh or just lazy. It is like a church to most Christians, they go to once a month and special occasions. Once a month I'm enjoying some good spring rolls and pho tai. Extra special if they got Cafe Sua Da. Generally pho is a peasant food, a staple of working people's diet. It's cheap to make and not fancy. So to expect a pho place to be gourmet is just ignorant. I love the fact that this restaurant is minimally decrated and sterile. That's important when dealing with undercooked beef or fresh chicken along side uncooked vegetables. The service is very Vietnamese in the sense of being friendly but not talkative. The food here is a delight and I can't imagine anyone with the slightest awareness of noodle and rice dishes not enjoying themselves. Good prices, not a bargain, but very reasonable. Lastly, in a county that has more rain than any other county in California, and soup being the great comfort food on a cold and rainy day that it is, this may very well become my favorite restaurant north of San Francisco. Best Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant in the county. The service is very quick, the food come is large portions with lots of flavor and blatant freshness. At the top of the hill on G street, and lots of windows made for a sunny open air feel. This is a refreshing experience with wholesome food, and nothing is priced over $16, even the dinners. Good broth, men's toilet was not installed correctly (meaning wax or other seal is probably not working correctly). Mold on ceiling and graffiti in bathroom. I suggest you fix the toilet and wash the mold off the ceiling. If the bathroom is this gross what does the kitchen look like? Good pho. read more

hiked the redwoods all day and needed a big bowl of veggie pho! it was pretty good but I didn't receive the little side plate of bean sprouts/lime/basil. the broth was a little bland but i added a ton of chili paste and it was great. only thing is i wish they didn't ask customers to raise their feet so they can sweep under them while they're preparing to close. i arrived at 8:15pm unaware they close at 8:45pm, and it seems like a better idea to just close the dine-in option 20 minutes before closing rather than seat people for dine-in and then start dusting and mopping next to them 20 minutes later :) read more

I was craving a bowl of Pho Ga while on vacation - so the closest place I found to where I was staying was Pho Hoang in Arcata. I ordered the Summer rolls, and then a bowl of Pho Ga. The summer rolls were pretty good. I was disappointed to find that the Pho Ga I was served was with a beef broth (I love it when Pho joints make and serve their Pho Ga with a delicious chicken broth). I found out as I was paying my bill - that I could have requested a chicken broth. Weird that you have to request it for a chicken-based soup. Well, now I know. When I visit the area again, I'll come back and try the Pho Ga with a chicken broth! Overall, the beef broth was serviceable. I have given Pho Hoang a few more tries and I changed my mind. My most recent experience has especially lifted my spirits! I came for lunch with my boyfriend and really enjoyed dining here. We were seated quickly, and our waters came right away. Our waiter was friendly, not too talkative, and didn't come to the table too little or too often. It was just right. We got the vegetarian spring rolls, which are basically the highlight of the entire menu. It comes with a small bowl of their perfect peanut sauce. I can't get enough of that stuff. They came out within five minutes of ordering, so I just figure they have them pre-made in the back. The veggies inside tasted fresh. I also ordered the Vegetarian Pho, which was pretty good. I wish there was more tofu inside. The broth was savory and the veggies tasted fresh as well. I didn't feel rushed this time at all, it was wonderful. They packed my leftover pho into a reusable tupperware-like container and I heated the rest up for lunch the next day. I will come back! read more
