This is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the Riverview/Brandon area! The food is so delicious here. I've been eating from them periodically every now and then throughout the years and they usually don't disappoint. My favorite dish from here is the grilled beef and grilled shrimp rice vermicelli dish (I love that chargrilled flavor). My favorite drinks from here are their fresh squeezed limeade and their "Lady in the flush" specialty drink. They have ample, spaced out seating indoors, but I usually like to order takeout or delivery from them these days. This is located in a Publix anchored plaza off of 301, north of the I 75 overpass and on-ramp (Next-door to the Pizza Hut). They have plenty of parking. Always a pleasure eating from here. read more

I was in the Brandon area today and just wanted two things, a good Boba place and a good Vietnamese noodle soup place for to go. I remembered we came here one year ago and everything was delicious. Today , ordered to go for the family and was disappointed. Although the broth is still delicious (I always taste the broths separately before combining with noodles) I think more attention can be given to the noodles. both Bun Bo Hue's had a strong chlorine taste. I am not sure if the noodles were not rinsed thoroughly or they were rinsed in water which has no softener. I took a sip of the broth and said it was one of the most flavorful I have tried, yet when combined with the noodles it had a strong chlorine taste- was inedible and could not be finished. As for my sons chicken pho , The noodles again could use some attention. It was served in a large hard clump, he could not eat his pho or separate the noodles. my logic is either it was over cooked or they pre-cook all the noodles and just pour the soup broth over as customers order. At any rate ,we make Pho at home frequently and know that pho noodles are very fragile . The only way to make it correctly is to cook the noodles to order. It only takes a few minutes to make fresh noodles. Luckily we still had a package at home so was able to strain the broth out and cook our own noodles. For $100 worth of food, was really hoping for a hassle free meal. On a sidenote, it's understandable that pricing has gone up and we don't mind paying but meat quantity is more scarce almost cut up into little pieces compared to our experience here a year ago. I can't say this restaurant was authentic. The food was okay. The portions are good. I was disappointed when the Vietnamese coffee did not come with its own drip pot. The egg rolls were a little over fried. Bo Luc Lac "Shaking Beef" wasn't on the menu. The server was nice and helpful although she didn't know what Ube was even though an Ube shake was ordered for my table. The interior was fine but didn't give off any particularly Vietnamese vibes. I've been here a couple of times because it's so close to my job. The first time was kinda good. The service was slow but the food was pretty good. The second time I went the service was a lot faster and the food was still amazing. The third time was my last... service was slow and almost non existent. I've only had Vietnamese food from 2 other restaurants in this area. So, I'm definitely no expert. All I can say is that everything I ordered was very good. I was even offered water while I was waiting. The takeout service was fantastic. There wasn't much of a wait at around 4:30 on a weekday. I ordered the grilled shrimp rolls as an appetizer, and 2 small bowls of shrimp pho (#23a). It was difficult to decide because they have so many different topping combinations. I picked the shrimp pho because they offer it in 4 different sizes. They have combos with lobster, seafood, scallops, mussels, and even filet mignon. They are pricier but are also larger servings (medium and large bowls). The small bowl was more than enough for me. It was so filling. So much so, that I'll probably just get the baby pho next time. Yes, there will be a next time. I thought the broth was pretty awesome. It was good to the last drop, and I totally mean it when I say that. It was so comforting. I know others have said it's not salty, but it is. It's not detectable in the taste, but I definitely felt it later that evening. I'd still order it again in a heartbeat. The flavor had a good balance of savory and sweet. More savory than sweet. Loved it! The Thai basil and other veggies were super fresh. I love that they gave me lots of basil and cilantro. I must admit that I was a little disappointed when I saw the shrimp roll appetizer. I thought I was ordering the crispy shrimp rolls, but they were the ones wrapped in rice paper. I have never met a fresh spring roll that I liked, and that's what it looked like to me. You know what I'm talking about? The ones served with that thick peanut sauce at other restaurants. Well, this was like no roll I've ever tasted. It had grilled shrimp in it which gave it so much flavor. You could actually see the chargrill marks on the shrimp. I didn't even need to dip it into the sauce that they gave me, which was also very yummy. This one wasn't a peanut sauce. They also make these rolls with chicken, beef, and pork. This was a unique treat that I will continue to get in the future. I can't wait to try more menu items, and definitely other pho combinations. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Went here today for lunch. I stood at the hostess waiting to be seated a couple minutes before I finally saw an employee who sat me. Didn't get immediate svc. Took 20 min to get a glass a water. The basil and sprouts looked as if they were decaying. My pho was slightly warmer than Luke warm but I was on lunch and had to hurry so I ate it. I never seem to get in and out here fast. The food is typically good but the service is just to slow and then dealing with unsatisfactory food I really shouldn't have paid full price for this svc or food but I still tipped their cash box. Probably won't be back. Pho Mai Asian kitchen is currently the best food and svc and they hustle hard to greet and seat you. read more

My fiance and I went here last Saturday on our way home after a trip to the aquarium. At first we were a little skeptical because there were NO other customers inside the restaurant. BUT I have to say, their pho was so good. It was definitely one of the better places I've had in the Tampa area. It's also close to my house so that makes this place that much more exciting for me. For me, pho is all about the broth and the quality of the meat. The broth had a really decent sweet and salty balance. If you're someone that doesn't like to add much to your pho this broth was definitely the perfect balance. I like to add Sriracha and hoison sauce to mine, but I only added a small amount because of how good the flavor was. And to top it all off: IT CAME WITH CILANTRO! I cannot emphasize how much I love cilantro in my pho and not all Vietnamese restaurants offer cilantro so this was just the icing on the cake for me. read more

Pho Hoang Vietnamese Restaurant is located off US Highway 301 South & South Falkenburg Road in Riverview near Tampa in a shopping plaza next to Pizza Hut, Subway, China 1, Crazy Cafe, GNC, and Publix Supermarket. In fact, you really have to have GPS on to know where to look because there's a huge tree blocking any visibility of the restaurant sign from the road. Pho Hoang Vietnamese has 42 variations of Pho Soups, 29 variations of vermicelli noodle bowls, 29 variations of rice platters, 11 variations of banh mi sandwiches, and even bun bo hue. The Pho Hoang restaurant chairs and tables are pretty basic and divey but the pretty Vietnamese wall art of waterfalls, beaches with cliffs, and a charming Vietnamese fishing village really elevate the decor out of the dive category. I got the Steak & Shrimp Rice Platter with green onions, dried shallots, pickled daikon & carrots, cucumbers, and broccoli. For a $1 up-charge, I added a sunny side up fried egg to the order. The portion size was very large and the steak was lean, crispy, and well marinated. The shrimp were pretty good too! Mixed up with the provided spices, the dish was very good. 8/10 My coworkers got the medium beef pho soup which actually came in a huge 60 ounce soup bowl so big that no one was able to finish it. The medium pho is enough for 2 meals. If you're not super hungry, a small 40 oz bowl of pho is perfectly adequate. Pho soups come in baby size in 20 oz, small in 40 oz, medium in 60 oz, and large in 80 oz. The pho is a Vietnamese soup made by boiling beef stock for a very long time. The pho consists of flavorful spices, thin noodles, topped with steak, cilantro, onion, bean sprouts, Thai basil, cilantro, lime, and jalapeño peppers. The soup was very flavorful and a large serving size. 8/10 On another occasion I had the vermicelli noodle bowl and I definitely have to say I prefer the rice platter over the noodle bowl because the rice absorbs the spices better. When compared to the other Brandon Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Viet, I'd say that Pho Hoang is on average $2 more per dish but Pho Hoang has larger serving sizes and uses better marinades and spices. The Pho Hoang Vietnamese restaurant is very large to accommodate many patrons with 2 separate rooms. During lunch on a weekday, there was no wait to be seated, our server greeted us promptly and food came out in under 10 minutes. The beef looks like it was reused it has been sitting out for a while and It's old. We asked for new beef, the waitress said it was her fault because she left the dish sitting out and she was prepping the veggies. Being a restaurant manager for 15 years, this dish wasn't just sitting out. The beef was old (and possibly re-used). On our latest visit the spring rolls seemed overstuffed with rice, minimal meats, lettuce and no basil at all. The amount of peanut sauce was enough for one spring roll. Also, in the 15 minutes (longest we have waited anywhere) it took us to receive our spring rolls we watched 5 or 6 to-go orders go out the door. When we were served the condiment plate for the Pho, again there was no basil which we had to ask for. We had to ask our server twice for a water refill yet there were only two other tables in use totally three people. In seems their focus is more on to-go order rather than dine-in service. Why don't you know about Pho Hoang yet? I'll fill you in...Because it is brand spankin' new! Like so new that the walls don't even have soup spray on them yet. Not even any crust in the corners where the wall meets the floor. Recently erected in a pristine Publix plaza, however the Vietnamese community knows this place exists. Word spreads fast. Since we tried this place on a Sunday afternoon, it really started to get crowded. The servers are not ready for the rush yet, which causes the kitchen to get backed up. There was also at least one crying baby at any given moment. Sometimes one crying baby would stop crying to figure out what was wrong with the new crying baby that just arrived. So, we were entertained while waiting for the food. For the temperature of the dining area, it is just uncalled for. Seriously, I went over to the advanced AC display gauge on the wall that even had an LCD display that could tell you your horoscope--- they have the temperature set on 82 degrees knowingly! I feel bad for the servers and kitchen staff more than anyone else because they are running around all over the place. For the food, well it is straight to the point damn goooood. This is one of those hands-down, no messin' around joints: 1. Only two appetizers on the menu- Goi Cuon and Cha Gio 2. Entrée menu has various meat choices on only three dishes: pho, cold noodle bowl, rice plate (no fried rice, lol OMFG) 3. House specialty is Bun Bo Hue--- real deal style, containing blood cubes and trotters 4. Pho comes in three sizes from baby to Xe Lua 5. Hoisen sauce is not watered down Complaints: 1. First off, this place is super clean and comfortable. The exterior is great with cool murals covering the walls. We got the egg rolls to start that were good - came with a small side of pickled daikon which I loved - so fresh and crunchy. On the smaller side but priced fair. Get a couple orders if you're extra hungry. They have 3 sizes for the pho and I enjoyed the small portion of the steak. Plenty of steak for the size. I got a Vietnamese coffee on ice and it was bomb.
