I just dropped a bill on two Phos, two coffees, one order of banana tapioca pudding and an ice tea. They don't serve water but they will sell you a Fuji for five bucks. First, what I liked. The Vietnamese coffee. At seven dollars it had to be good. Now, for the indifference... The premade spring rolls were ok. Nothing special but once again overpriced. The banana tapioca pudding has zero, I mean zero tapioca in it. I got the beef Pho and it was not only very bland but the lack of beef for that much money was astonishing. It was almost non existent. We got it togo because we felt bad they were closing in 30 minutes but the woman brought it out to us in the wooden bowls because she said "it tastes better this way." I'm trying to spend around $10 for lunch, so I think this hack is a great option for someone like myself. The prices are more compared to a traditional Viet restaurant. Tried BT's for the first time tonight and it was a great experience. I ordered the Famous Chili Chicken Salad which had chicken, peanuts, cilantro and cabbage in it. The small is 24 oz and large is 48oz (large is pictured). Also pictured is the Beef Pho which was a very generous portion size as well. I was working in South Tampa and decided to go here for a late lunch. Small place because they do mostly to go but they do have three seats outside and a table inside. I ordered the fresh roll which was very good, fresh, flavorful and the peanut sauce with the Sriracha in it was good. I also ordered the Bánh mì with pork, that was absolutely fabulous. The roll was soft and fresh, the pork was juicy along with all the veggies on it and the soy aïoli was a pretty perfect Bánh mì sandwich. I also had a Jasmine iced tea that was very good. There is an option to make a more decadent Bahn Mi with truffle mousse and foie gras mousse, but I'm not a fan of truffles and didn't want to pay the steep price of $15.95 so I opted for the house made pork terrine at $7.95. The French baguette was a tad on the tough side and I would have preferred if the sandwich included jalapenos so I docked one star. Beef Pho: 5/5 I'm not a pho expert, but the beef pho was great. $12.95 seemed like a bargain for the gigantic quart sized portion that we received. My lunch buddy, Yelper Michelle M, and I met at the restaurant for lunch one day as she was on a tight schedule from work. BT To Go has a display case / ordering station, and one long table inside, with seating for about 10 people. Outside there are a few smaller tables under a covered porch, but beyond that, most folks were popping in to grab a carryout order. The menu is very fresh Vietnamese food with a traditional French twist. You'll find the usual steamed rice paper rolls, soups, salads, Banh Mi sandwiches, Pho noodle soups, rice vermicelli noodle bowls, vegetarian and curry stews, and a nice mixture of rice bowls and balanced lunch options, all ready to eat on the spot, or to grab and go. I will start off by saying the vegetarian pumpkin soup is exquisite and hands down the best dish. Everything else I've had has been bland, uninspired, and overpriced. The pho was OK, the banh mi was OK, the spring rolls were OK, the cucumber side salad was OK... You get my point. I've learned my lesson and just go there for the pumpkin soup now. It's simply the best thing on their menu (and something you can't find elsewhere). There is one long community table inside and some small tables on the porch out front. We headed in yesterday for a late lunch fix and I was blown away by the flavors. From the iced Vietnamese coffee to the Bun noodle bowl, I was beyond satisfied. We each had a Fresh Shrimp Roll with Gulf shrimp, mixed herbs, bean sprouts, lettuce, with a tamarind-hoisin-peanut sauce and they were so crisp. The sauce made them for sure, delicious blend. I feasted (read: sucked it down like a hoover) on the "BUN" Noodle Salad Bowl with Rice vermicelli, mixed herbs, lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, daikon radish, roasted peanuts, shallots, nuoc mam with Galangal chicken. Chef BT Nguyen opened BT To Go in order to provide more options for restaurant patrons who wanted a quick bite and lunch items not available during the dinner hours. The restaurant is simply decorated in a modern style. There is limited interior and patio seating. There is a refrigerated case where you can quickly pick up dishes if you choose to walk-in instead of ordering ahead. I ordered the Shrimp Fresh Rolls and the Bún (Rice Vermicelli Salad) Bowl with Pork. Both dishes were very good. The Chili and Peanut sauce accompanying the Fresh Rolls was very savory and I hope I remember to order an extra one next time I am in. The Bún was delicious. It was very light and fresh. The portion was more than generous and I was able to have it for both lunch and dinner. Lauren was the staff member on duty and was very friendly on the phone while taking my order and ringing me up. Prices here are quite a bit higher than most of the traditional Vietnamese restaurants, but I don't mind paying for the convenience of the location. Also, there is a very limited beverage selection. Being able to get gourmand level food without sitting for two hours and to get it to go sounds too good to be true. However it is true. My first trip I left with a foie gras banh mi which was heavenly and spring rolls (similar to what's at BT). Otherwise the menu is pretty different. Banh mi, salads, soup, appetizers, pho and "pre-made/ packaged" entrees. I'm jazzed to work my way down the menu and hopefully new items will be introduced over time. I went to pick up a couple of Bahn Mi from BT to Go earlier. After I go in and pay for it, I see one girl in the back her face uncovered with her mask hanging under her chin and with no gloves on preparing food. I see her opening and closing things, touching the rim and inside of togo containers while pouring in some liquid, putting food in bags all without wearing gloves or washing hands in between. I didn't make a big deal out of it. I quietly asked for a refund since there was another customer waiting for their food. The lady at the register asked why, and I explained why. She then says that she can't give me a refund because the order hasn't been processed for 24 hours and the food is almost ready. I was surprised at the response and said to her, "So, you're not going to give me a refund?" She then proceeded to tell me that she herself didn't have to wear gloves because she doesn't prepare the food. Then I re-clarified that I was not comfortable eating the food that was being prepared by the girl with her mask off and no gloves handling food and not washing her hands in between touching EVERYTHING. Then obviously frustrated, she gives me my refund. After giving me my refund I asked her why she lied about not being able to give me a refund in the beginning? Her response was, "Don't come back." I thought to myself as I left, "You didn't have to tell me that. I wasn't coming back anyways." I was pretty bummed about all this as I was still craving for some Bahn Mi sandwiches. Meh! read more

This might be my first 2/5. First the good .. and why I'm giving in 2 stars... The Banh Mi is great. The sauce it comes with is very delicious and the Bahn Mi itself (the bread) tastes quite fresh. No real complaints! Onto the rest.. The pho doesn't taste like pho. I've ordered here twice, been to Vietnam and back, tried both Northern and Southern pho and this just tastes like vegetable tea. I think the chef decided to make the broth taste like the condiments that typically come on the side of a bowl of pho instead of focus'ing on aspects like the ginger, onion, and bone marrow. It lacks sodium and the subtle sweetness of most pho broths I've had. I realize Northern style pho usually has less sodium but this is on another level. If this was called "vegetable stew" or something I might not be as critical, but this will hinder any expectations for pho lovers. My Vietnamese companion even agreed "This doesn't taste like Pho." The jasmine tea doesn't taste like tea. For $4.25 I was devestated that my drink tasted more like orange juice than tea. The combination of orange juice and honey is more than enough sugar on its own and becomes overpowering. This is more akin to a tropical Arnold Palmer. The Vietnamese coffee is weak and expensive. For $4.25 you are better off going to someplace like Saigon Deli and spending $2 for a coffe twice as strong and half the price. On value alone, I spent $30 dollars on the above meal and I would much rather spend that money someplace else such as Ichicoro if I wanted ramen or Saigon Deli if I wanted Vietnamese at half the cost. read more
