Just ordered from this restaurant and I'm disappointed that it wasn't as good as I was told it would be. This review is not based on the taste of the pho but the portion amount. I just ordered a small number 15 and was given about five slices of beef, barely any noodles in medium temperature broth. I also ordered a bubble tea from them with boba but because I was not given an actual bubble tea straw the Boba keeps getting caught at the bottom of my drink in my straw. I paid $15 for this meal and I'm not even full. I don't know if ordering a large would have made any difference. Definitely our go to spot for Pho. The soup is always consistent and the beef is sliced accordingly. That never short you on portions, especially the beef. Tam is always looking out for his customers and it helps that he is a genuinely good guy. I owned a Pho restaurant before so I know the patience and dedication it takes to make the base just right. A couple of years ago, Pho House provided great food at great prices. However, over the last year, the Pho broth seems to have lost some of its flavor and the veggies sometimes seem a little soggy. Side note: For a sloppy soupy meal, they offer tiny, fragile napkins. They need to have bigger stronger napkins or just have paper towel rolls on the table like a crab restaurant. Bottom line: our family used to all really enjoy Pho House, but, now it is more of an last option when we want something fast and are sick of all the other local options. The pho here, in plain words, was pretty good. Nothing to really rave about like some of the other reviews that I've read, but hey, each to their own. My only gripe with this place was that they served probably the most MSG filled soup I've ever had in pho. Of course it wasn't enough to make one puke MSG everywhere once they got home, but it definitely gives you that feeling where you know the food that you are eating is incredibly unhealthy for you and you're not going to like it later. I however loved the atmosphere and setting of the restaurant, enough to disregard the bored teen-aged employees that were talking very loudly with their friends the whole entire time I was there. After moving into the Germantown area I have been looking for good authentic Asian cuisine. I read a lot and asked around social media. PHÓ House came up and read many reviews and contemplating ordering. I love the deal of buy 5 get 1 free banh mi. We ordered the Đăc Biět: Pho House special sub and their Thit Nuóng: grilled lemongrass pork sub, Ice coffees, and the G7 Pho House com. The prices are ok. I was thrilled for the banh mi, the sub rolls were nice and big but it was very hard, the pickles veggies didn't taste like it was pickled and as the jalapeños looked fresh it was missing the seeds therefore no spice at all. My husband and son said the grilled pork didn't have much of a sweet flavor and had a slight charcoal flavor. I enjoyed the cold cuts flavor, I probably get that again. The ice coffee is strong and I like it, my husband felt like it didn't have condensed milk but I could taste it. I has happy with the tomato rice or the chicken in the G7. It's not bad but not flavors I expected from a Vietnamese or an Asian restaurant. Overall I had good customer service, I'll try it again but not on a regular basis. read more

The pho is really good but the service is garbage. The staff ignore you and are very rude when you try to get their attention. I understand it's busy but typically when someone is trying to give you money you take it right? I had to wait 20 minutes to get my check and when I got it no one bothered to get it from me. I tried the lemongrass chicken. There are other Pho places in the area, but after reading the reviews I decided to try this place. I placed a take out order, the staff seemed like they could care less that they had my business. I ordered the lemongrass chicken vermicelli. I've had this dish at other locations and it is one of my favorites. I was greatly disappointed in the quality of the chicken, it was flat, salty, greasy, didn't have a good flavor and the sweet fish sauce you poor over the noodles was lacking in flavor. As mentioned by other Yelpers, this place is nicer than your usual pho place in the area. Nice decor and panels to watch as you're munching away. They have a counter towards the back with all kinds of goods you can order from and their menu is decent, very similar to Bale's, just not as many items to choose from, however this isn't a bad thing. We started off with the fried rolls and I always gave props to Bale's, especially because you get six for the price of five and they're bigger than normal-sized rolls. Anyway, Pho House's rolls puts Bale's to the side, at least in my opinion. Their wrapper is almost like the texture of a Burger King french fry, double battered, double fried, double everything. It's really good! The filling is almost the same, but to me, the taste is not as robust as Bale's, however still really good. I recommend the fried rolls here. I was craving pho (and typically I goto Pho Nam for this), so I gave it a shot. It was OK. The broth was kind of watered down, but it isn't salty as some others I've had nor did it have a layer of grease on the top. The uncooked beef on top was really good, tender, but again, this was OK. Wifey had the grilled beef, which was excellent. The beef was very well seasoned, tons of flavor and not dry at all. Decent sized portion too for $8.95, can't go wrong with that. As we walked in, the server greeted us and sat us down with two menus and we were served water. The food, as in most Vietnamese places like this, came out in under 10 minutes. Paid at the counter and took off. This is surely a "cheap eats" spot if you're in the area and I recommend it. Nothing disappointing about it at all and your typical Vietnamese type cuisine. Definitely will go back and get their Banh Mi next time. read more

(Note: Contrary to the map, this place is located in the shopping center nearby, with Roy Rogers, the UPS Store, etc. It's next door to Lotte.) We've been here several times now and its always been good. I've had the beef stew and the tamer pho (I usually get the brisket), my girlfriend usually gets the house pho and and has also tried a pork dish on rice and their sandwiches -- all very good, plentiful and cheap. They also have varieties of bubble tea. I confess I like the strawberry, even though the cup gives every impression that it's marketed towards 10 year old Asian girls... The interior is smallish but nice. It's very modern and tidy inside and they'll let you push tables together for large groups. It does tend to fill up rather suddenly around mealtimes but we haven't had any trouble finding a seat. Bring your chopstick skills -- like I'm finding out with most foods that qualify as "authentic Asian", they simply weren't designed to be eaten with a fork or spoon. Chopsticks are your best bet. Nobody has made fun of my chopstick skills yet, which means you're probably safe. The beef stew was kinda so-so (the cuts of meat were too fatty for my liking, but it sure tasted good). The brisket soup is pretty awesome. I love the noodles, though, and can pretty much fill up just on those. My girlfriend likes their sandwiches too but I prefer to stick with the pho. Note that if you order it to go, you'll get ingredients and broth separately. I see a reviewer complaining that the raw meat was already cooked but that's just how they serve it in the restaurant. I can testify that if you get it to go and get a pho with raw meat, it will be there, raw, in your to-go box, ready for a dunking in the hot broth to cook it. I imagine they would serve it like this in the restaurant (separately) if you asked. Incidentally, pho isn't one of my favorite foods in the world. I would probably rate that, alone, as "a-ok" -- I like it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I'm throwing on an extra star because the location is nice and clean and I've never had any problems with quality or service. Only had the sandwiches to go. I ordered two banh mi dac biet ("specials" sandwiches). They were aweful! The bread was so stale we couldn't bite through it!!! The warm crispy french baguette is supposed to be the first impression to the quality of the sandwiches. They failed miserably...with no excuse since they're nxt door to the Lotte bakery! Ended up having to put the sandwiches in the toaster to be edible. There were barely any cold cuts. All the jalapeño were at one end of the sandwich so parts were too spicy and other was bland. We've eaten here dozens of times plus carry out and have never been disappointed. Have I eaten better pho and banh mi? Yes, but at a dedicated pho place or banh mi stand. The great thing about pho house is they have a variety of food in one place and every thing we've had has always been pretty darned good. Pho, Banh mi, lemongrass pork plate, wings and crispy egg rolls have always been good. Service is ok, could be a little more friendly and sometimes when the place is packed the service can slow down, but if you get the waiter's attention you can get what you need pretty quickly. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years now because it's the closest to my house. The first year it was good but it has gradually gone downwards. I really wanted this place to continue to be the only pho place to go to. I have seen gnats in the pho a couple of times and the beef is not tender now. Maybe because I ordered the meat well done? The food is good, however, the customer service from the female manager/owner was horrible. I called to place and order for pick-up and was told that there was a 50 cents fee. I asked the staffer about the fee since I had never heard of that with previous orders. She put the manager on the phone and she told me that they have charged this fee, for the containers, as long as they have been there. I told her that I've placed orders, in the past, and was never told about this fee. I told her that I've ordered from other establishments and there was never a charge for containers. She then started getting annoyed with me and said she's not the Chinese restaurant and that's there policy. She hung up the phone on me. I called back and asked why she hung up on me, since I never said I didn't want to place an order. She continued to tell me that that's their policy and it wasn't going to change. Also, she told me that the fee was shown on the menu. I told her that I didn't have a copy of the menu. Then she asked if i had ever eaten in the restaurant, and I told her that I had. But since I order the same thing, I never look at the menu. I told her that she should make sure that the staff let the customers know about this charge since they hadn't mentioned it to me before. She said that they probably just added it to my bill, (of course without my knowledge). This is stealing to me. I was appalled of the way she was speaking to me and told her that she needed to work on her customer service skills. She hung up on me again. I didn't have a problem with the fee, but would just like to know for what I'm being charged. I have enjoyed eating there, but just don't appreciate being hollered at and hung up on. I'm a business woman myself, and would never treat a customer in that manner. Also, I don't charge my customers for supplies, that I give them with their purchases, since that's a business expense that the IRS allows me to write off on my taxes. read more

Don't go here for pho. Don't go to Pho Nam for pho either because their broth tastes like a ramen packet. Just go to Pho 75. Or Eden Center. Anyway, I came here to eat some sandwiches. Pho House should not be called "Pho House". It should be called "Banh Mi House". I wrote a review for Ba Le in Rockville a while back, but I must say that I haven't been there in a while because once I tasted the sandwiches at Pho House, I haven't been going back. Ba Le doesn't know, but this has been going on for quite some time now and I simply cannot hold my love for the banh mi at Pho House back any longer so I'm writing this review. For those who don't know, Banh Mi are sandwiches that have meat (you can choose from different kinds), pickles (made from carrots, daikon, and cucumber), cilantro, jalapeno slices, pate, and some sort of butter/mayo spread all on a warm toasted baguette that is soft on the inside, but light and crisp on the outsde. It might seem that it's not hard to screw something like this up, but it can happen. Case in point: Ba Le. The chicken at Pho House is much more tender and the ingredients are fresher. There is also a wider variety of sandwiches at Pho House. I usually get chicken, but I recently tried egg and that was really tasty! I think the only place that tops the banh mi here is at Eden Center and that random sandwich shop in NYC Chinatown that I couldn't find again, but I don't like to risk getting shot at Eden, so I'll come to Germantown for my banh mi fix. read more

went back today with my girlfriend in tow. i was proud to bring my hungry friend! she actually loved the soup and didn't put any sauce in it! yay! asked for no pork, no noodles in my shrimp spring rolls. almost perfect: i will ask to add basil next time. got a small this time and i was so full! perfect meat quality AGAIN and i tried the avocado smoothie w/o bubbles this time. pretty good but too sweet for my taste but smooth and delicious! will probably save that for dessert in the summertime. read more

I've been a pho-snob for years, willing to travel long distance for some good pho. Since I've moved, I've been trying out different places around my home in search of good pho, but this place is definitely not one of them. First time I tried it, it was okay so I went back when my friend was in mood for Vietnamese food... and my first visit must have been a fluke... noodles were completely over-cooked to the point it had not texture and soup was dismal. Service was okay but I never really saw her after she took our order. First time I've ate from this restaurant and i was disappointed. First i called to pick up pho, and they put me on hold for 15 minutes. The same woman who placed me on hold picked up confused and i told her she placed me on hold and i guess she must've forgotten. She laughed and said oh no i didn't forget it just busy... ok whatever, so i place my order, she told me it's be ready in 15. So i got there and it wasn't done yet, i paid and left. The disappointment was not only the level of service, but the soup is oily and it's dark and heavy. It tasted as if the onion oil was already in it. I ordered tai nam and there wasn't much beef and steak.. and to pay $10 for a bowl is crazy! I rather go to the place i usually go to in silver spring! this place is very different from normal pho restaurants because of the customer service and cleanliness (very important to me). the people who work there will actually ask you how your meal is and also refill your water glass:) they are so nice. i'm generally not a fan of pho but i go there for the garden rolls and lemongrass chicken which is so tasty there. it has a very smokey flavor. my husband ryan always gets the pho with beef which he loves. we recently took my parents there for dinner but i don't think they like it as much as we do. they prefer pho nam on shady grove. my mom mentioned that if you get pho without noodles there they give you more meat while at pho house they don't do that. i don't think i would like pho nam as i've heard it's not as nicely decorated and it's a little dirty. also there are less menu selections. read more

Unbelievably small portions. I ordered a regular #1 pho and I was basically able to wolf down the noodles in 5 bites. So disappointing. The spring rolls we ordered were disappointing as well. I'm not sure what kind of wrap they use but it's definitely not the standard one. You can easily tell if you look through yelp. I was so emotionally moved by the Pho i've had at Pho House that I made a Yelp account..... Hopefully one day this can help motivate somebody else to say YES to eating here. I ordered to go the Hu Tieu Tom Thit house special and this is the best soup I've had at a Pho restaurant. DELICIOUS! Lots of flavor. It definitely helps with having a sore throat. The noodles are always the right texture, the broth is always flavorful, and the banh mi sandwiches always have fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is good and they have some soccer games or food network shows playing in the background that won't likely offend anyone. The prices are average for the area and that's a good thing considering how good the food and service are. Clean pho place in Germantown that sells more dishes than just pho. The pho was okay, I don't really remember it much, but I remember it being kind of bland. I tried their grilled combination rice dish last time (came with spring roll, grilled pork, and grilled shrimp) which was pretty good with a large portion. I finished about half of it before being insanely full. Their iced coffee is right on and probably my favorite part of the meal. They also sell banh mi, which is tasty. I don't think their bread is homemade, but it's hard to get banh mi in upper Montgomery County! Omg, I used to frequent Pho House and Pho 81 3 times a week for the last 2 years that I worked in Germantown. I work from home now in Mt. Airy and I drive to Frederick to get Pho for two days worth of lunches. I thought it was good, but yesterday I went to Germantown for the first time in 2 years and couldn't help myself. I was torn between Pho House and Pho 81. I chose Pho House and picked up Pho Tai and spicy beef noodle soup. I had the Pho Tai tonight and it was soooo good. The real stuff folks. I highly recommend this restaurant. I haven't had Pho that good since I stopped working in Germantown. Can't wait to eat my spicy beef noodle soup tomorrow for lunch. Definitely a gem among gems with it comes to Pho. You would never think that something this supremely delicious would come out of this inconspicuously small restaurant nestled deep in an average Germantown, MD shopping center. The Pho soup is definitely the star here even though they have the Banh Mi sandwiches as well which are great. The broth, which is always the center piece of any good pho, is incredible. Truly a delicious meal at a great price which can satisfy your hunger for most of the day. It stands above some of the other DC metro area Pho restaurants which are highly rated on Yelp. read more
