I eat here at least once a week and absolutely love their pho! The special Dac Biet and the Pho Khong are both so delicious. My all-time favorite is still the Bun Bo Hue (BBH). Their sandwiches are also very tasty, especially the pork belly banh mi. The interior is clean and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Customer service is always friendly, and the music adds to the atmosphere. Overall, I'm very pleased with this restaurant and will definitely keep coming back weekly for lunch.
The environment was clean and comfortable and staff was nice. I don't do alcohol so I got a regular hortchata instead of dirty hortchata which was so good. I loved the loaded fries I get random craving of it so totally recommend! Now the pho, the broth was good but I didn't feel like they put enough meat, overall it was good. I'm coming back for those fries and horchata, and also trying the wings which I hear are good.
Never heard of a Mexican Asian Fusion Vietnamese restaurant before so this was a first. Ordered the grilled pork spring roll wraps. Pricey but the size is large (4 pieces). The clear rice paper and mexican style pork was great. The side dipping sauce was way too salty. Had the Pho with rare steak and brisket. The only Mexican thing about it was the cucumbers and jalapeños. Needed some pickled carrots! The beef was great. The noodles and broth were meh. The horchata iced Vietnamese coffee was fantastic. They really should encourage more promos to promote the place. Annoying fly drove me nuts, but it got better once more folks showed up!
Wow. This was a great find. The staff was so friendly. But that's just the smallest part of what makes this a not to miss restaurant. The food. The food is incredible. The star was definitely the beef stew noodle soup. It has been over five years since we have had any beef strew noodle soup that comes close. Such complex flavors in the stew. Incredible. The grilled pork spring rolls were insanely large. 4 full rolls in one order. Wow. And it was so good. Then the chicken breast pho looks bland but it was far from it. The broth was just full of flavor and so delicious. Do not sleep on this restaurant. Go out of your way. It's worth it. I will go back to try more of their mex fusion dishes.
My sister in law picked this place out to try after my little one's Kaiser Appt...and I was down to try it because I've seen it recommended before. The flavors were a little bland, there was barely anything I could taste in my pho, I had to add to it. I was really hoping to have those spices like cinnamon and clove; in the soup base but I just couldn't find that in my bowl. My 3 year old daughter didn't even want to touch her portion and said "it doesn't taste good" ... maybe we're just so used to the pho flavors closer to home in Tracy.. The weird thing is we took home leftovers and they tasted better the next day after the hoisin, sriracha and onions marinated in there. To be honest, I was a little annoyed about my dirty horchata, the description says it has Vietnamese coffee in it so i asked the waitress if the coffee flavor was more over powering in it than the horchata flavor, and she did mention that the coffee was strong...and mine had zero flavor resembling any coffee in it all together. You could see the photo, my drink is all white.. Chicken wing flavor tasted like sweet mayonnaise sauce, it was weird so my sister asked for them to take it back and bring out the other flavor. I just would skip it and not order this. We saw a rib noodle cup that looked yummy and told each other we should have ordered that but over $18 for a rib & $1 noodle cup didn't seem worth it..that we could make that at home lol. Overall I didn't think this place was that special, I think they missed the mark when it comes to flavors, I think they could get there with some work, not sure if I'd come back here, but maybe I'll give them another shot some other time.
The hostess is supposed to ask us for a drink first before ordering the food. My family and I weren't satisfied with the food that we ordered. The Pho Bowl is VERY SMALL size like a kid's size. It does taste not great and the broth is ok. The price is VERY EXPENSIVE. We will NEVER go there again.
What is it about asian fusion restaurants that intrigue me so? Pho Mex did just that with its ideas of a pho burrito, but ended up a bit of a disappointment in the end. Located off McHenry and Coralwood in the same plaza as the WalMart, Pho Mex is the standalone building way too big for what its offering. I think it is trying to be a sit-down, large-party style establishment, but the menu items seem more milk tea shop-esque. I ordered for to-go: Pho burrito - definitely tasty, but missing the broth consome (maybe its for dine-in only?) and more of the veggies. Disappointed I didn't get the full experience. Queso egg rolls - good, crispy, but greasy and plain. It does come with a strange but tasty spicy dippy sauce. Grilled pork spring rolls - basic and not worth the $3 price hike. Steak and garlic noodles - I canNOT believe this dish was $20. When I popped open that to-go box to view its contents, my eyes met the saddest pile of garlic noodles with the most depressing over-cooked unseasoned steak pieces. I would say it was about 12 oz. noods to 4 oz protein. I am so sad I gave this a chance despite the ridiculous price tag. The service was aight. I ordered and then the owner (I think) handed me the bag of food once ready with a thank you. I really wanted to like this place and could see it being a cool place to bring a date or girls night out. The interior is so beautifully decorated and super spacious with many booths and tables with wait staff. No wonder the menu items are so much higher priced than smaller milk tea shops - they gotta afford the mortgage somehow.
Popped into PhoMex after movie in the lull between lunch and dinner a few weeks ago and overall, it just wasn't the vibe. Even though it's eclectic and vibrant and fun inside, the floor was dirty enough to be noticeable. Coulda been a very busy lunch rush beforehand but even a quick tidy would've helped things out; it was distracting. The food ranged from just okay to disappointing. The coffees were too sweet--I've had plenty of Vietnamese iced coffees to know that they're supposed to be rather sweet but we could hardly drink them. (Not one to waste, I took them home to use them as a creamer of sorts for my iced coffee.) The shrimp tacos were basic. One single bite had some Thai basil in it and that was the star of the dish. If all the tacos had had it sprinkled throughout? It would've been a perfect fusion dish! The queso egg rolls, though fried to crispy perfection were so bland as to not taste like much of anything. My partner's Pho-rrito was actually pretty good! They really enjoyed their main. The real downer of the visit was being made to feel as if I were a zoo animal on display, due to some technicolor sartorial flair. The rotation of waitresses seemed innocent enough, but as we came to the front to pay the bill, a gentleman employee came out from behind the counter to half-circle me, staring. Staring y'all! It did not feel complimentary in any way. The overall checkout experience was pretty negative because of it, and really soured my experience overall. Can't imagine I'll return anytime soon and I am genuinely bummed about it. So many of the dishes on the menu look so good and I wanted to try every specialty drink. Whomp whomp.
You NEED to try this place out yourself. I can't stress that enough. Mostly because they put their own spin on their brother and sauces. And if you are a true foodie, you will appreciate that on its own. I enjoyed tasting each thing and trying to pinpoint what that difference was. Now, if you are not a foodie, and you like traditional and want your food to be what you expect it to be, then maybe this isn't the place for you. Let me start with the caramelized pork belly since it's what we had first. This was a true 10/10! Cooked perfectly. Crispy where you'd expect, yet tender enough to pull apart. And the fatty part melting in your mouth. And the sauce was the best part. We literally dipped everything else in it because.. why not! Pork belly Banh mi - I didn't try it. My hubby enjoyed it though. Got a good eye brow raise from him lol. Chicken skewers (the name escapes me) but to me it was their spin on chicken satay. This was honestly just ok. The sauce was good and different. But I would have preferred it thicker. I wanted it to stick to that chicken. And the chicken, grilled perfectly with a nice char on it, needed seasoning. A little salt can go a long way! R&B pho- it was good. I enjoyed it. I may have poured too much sriracha but that was my bad lol. But this broth was definitely not your typical broth. Tons of flavor. I couldn't figure out exactly what it was that made it different, my guess is it's just more or a common broth ingredient. But it was very good. The portions here are great. There are some appetizers I want to try the next visit. The decor is really pretty and open. The restrooms are clean and stocked. We did have one item delivered incorrectly. But the staff was apologetic and switched it out no problem. As a mother of a son, who is working his very first job, I think I am now a little more understanding and patient. I think some of the wait staff are also working their first job. But we were constantly checked on and received everything including refills in a timely manner. The staff also forgot our utensils, but as soon as the food started coming out, it was recognized and taken care of promptly.
We had a great experience here. Our first time trying it out. We will be back. Our meals were fantastic and full of flavor. We started with Tofu Spring rolls (4) in a order, ate 2. I had the Beef Stew Noodle soup (Amazing). My better half had the Vegan Pho, and loved it. We each brought back 1/2 each. Our server Andrea was so helpful and offered suggestions for future visits. The ambiance is nice and not stuffy.
Finally visited this place back in March with the team for a meeting for lunch. It was a table of 6-7 of us, it was pretty quiet inside being as it was lunch. The service was very good and the food as great! None of us had any complaints for what we ordered. The inside is cool cause they have a little banquet area with its own entrance for a good price too.
So I wanted some Vietnamese food and wanted to try this place. Came in for dinner. The decor is really nice! Server told us to seat wherever. We seated at this long table in the far back since it's a party of 8. A waitress came and gave us the menu. So after 5 minutes, we decided what we wanted. Ok, so while we are waiting, there was no water or asking if we wanted to order drinks. She came back and ask if everything is ok?! I told her we are ready to order. When telling her what I want- it's better to say the number rather than what the actual food is. Anyways, so now that we are waiting for the order... still no drinks! A young waiter came to us and ask if we have ordered and we said yes! But we would like water. He said ok and proceed in the kitchen. After 5 minutes, still no water and here this waiter is chilling in the kitchen or serving other tables. Why ask if you can't serve?! So now he walked passed my table and I asked him where's our water. He then remembered (OMG)! We shouldn't have to ask repeatedly for water! That should of given immediately once guests are seated. Food- it takes about 10 minutes for the to come out. And also there's this robot that also delivers food too! Which I think is a very cool idea. No utensils was given until we had to ask for it! Then our soups came out with no vegetables (bean sprouts, mints, lemon) that comes with it. Had to wait for awhile to get the waiter/waitress attention and remind them. Let me say, it was not busy at the moment we were there. Sorry I don't remember the number but only the name. * bun bo hue- spicy noodle soup Was mediocre. The broth needed some more flavor and in my opinion it's was a bit in the sweet side. Meat was really chewy and had a bit smell. *pho dac biet too much of anise seed flavor that it over killed, but was ok. *com tam suong - rice with pork chop Was good *bun Thit nuong with Tom-vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and shrimp would totally recommend this- very flavorful! *bun ga nuong cha gio - vermicelli with grilled chicken and egg rolls Was good *pho burrito Not my preference. Flavor of meat was sweet in my opinion The sauce to the vermicelli and rice needs more attention as to not just coming out from a mixed ready made and add chili to compensate it- sauce is the most important when eating these dishes. BOBA drinks- I ordered 4 flavors *coconut milk - not good *jasmine milk tea - not good too sweet *mango tea - ok *super fruit tea- too bitter with and after taste- not good We took a few sips and didn't even finished it. My opinion... Food- overall is ok. I would come back for the grilled pork & shrimp dish though Boba drinks- taste was either too sweet or too bitter Most important- They need to train their waiter or waitress properly. Should have a system, and not try to be attentive and then forget and have to be reminded multiple times. I would give this place another try. ~ read more

Exciting, new take on food! It's a blend of Pho Mex food, as the name implies. There are some interesting blends on the menu. Very clean and beautiful decor. Tina took my order...very quiet, difficult to get answers regarding the menu. Seemed shy but polite. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, kept it simple for my first time. I noticed the board price and menu price was different. I sent a message to the manager, he came out and corrected right there. The sandwich was, "a little too much bread but awesome flavors." I am looking forward to coming back with family and/or friends to try this unusual exciting take on the blend between to cultural cuisines. They have an electrical serving table...so cool! PhoMex is a nice gem we found that is open late on weeknights and they accommodated our group of about 15 on a late weeknight! Not only was the staff accommodating, the owners made every attempt to make us feel welcome and unrushed. The food was amazing! From the appetizers to the main courses, there was not one complaint from our group. The food was delicious, well seasoned and cooked, and the presentation of the food was excellent! Did I mention the robots that delivered the food? SkyNet is here! What an amazing night we had at this establishment and we're very grateful they all helped make our night memorable. PHO/MEX : Mchenry Ave //Walmart First log 05/11/2022 Foods Ate with picture: 1. #20 -Grill + Shrimp Rice Vermicelli Bowl $15.95 2. #15 - Pho Burrito $9.95 3. #6 Grill pork loaded fries $7.50 4. Oolong strawberry tea $6.65 5. Taro tea $6.65, !REVIEW TIME! -FOOD: #20. The amount of food was perfect. It came with Cucumbers, rice noodles being first at the bottom, Chicken, 1 egg roll, two shrimp , 2 bacon and grilled pork, All in the bowl. The quality of food was decent tho , based off the food being cold. Which was the shrimp and rice noodles. I was bummed out the shrimp was cold due to it being grilled and cooked perfectly. Maybe that's how it comes out for the meal but I was hurt . Secondly the meats came hot. The flavor was there,I found it best with the fish sauce that it came provided with. You could dip it but I chose to pour it all in my bowl which was better in my opinion. Overall for the reviews on this plate is 4/5 #15. The meal I had was a pho burrito with a side of broth to dip the burrito in. The portion size was perfect for me and the broth was very warm. A reason why I enjoyed this meal was it was convenient for everything to be put together as a burrito for which pho can be or get messy. A couple of things I disliked about this entree was it wasn't so flavorful, the burrito nor broth although I did add some sauces to give it that spice and flavor which boosted up the meal a bit. The meat was juicy but too chewy for me and had a lot of fat. The broth was great to sip on at the end. Overall I give this meal a... 4/5 #6. The quantity of the garlic beef fries was perfect, enough to feed 2. The quality wasn't too satisfying especially for which it had all the high ranked ingredients ( in my opinion) everyone would like on loaded fries such as, meat & garlic etc! because I'm rating this appetizer Soo low is because we needed to add siracha to the fries to add more flavor, it contained garlic although couldn't taste it and the meat was good but it looked more like sautéed onions. Still juicy tho. Probably the last time coming here, sad bc I ordered the vegetarian hotpot and got a disappointment. Smelled very fishy and asked them if they put fish sauce in it and they said no.. There was fish cake balls that exploded the inside juice all over me and there was pork dumplings in there as well. This is supposed to have only veggies in it smh. The drinks were ok, the strawberry olong was too strong and overall everything was okay. Used to love this place. Just the fishyness of the soup was not okay. Asked if they can put a discount bc we did not enjoy the food at all and they only discounted $3. I barely even touched the soup. Disappointed. read more

Second time here and the food is pretty tasty and really creative. I'd like to see more fusions but the concept is pretty cool and something I've been looking for! Service: the past two times have been a 3/5. Not necessarily bad but not extremely welcoming, they seem new so I'll give it time. This places was empty which I thought was weird because their ratings aren't bad. The service was good, the girl that took our order was quiet but nice. Food took forever, I think I may have overheard that the cook made the shrimp with chili and I had asked no chili, we ordered a little before 3pm and didn't get the food until 345pm... there was no one in the lobby and only one person walked in to get an order they placed over the phone. My sister had the pork belly , she like it. I had a vermicelli salad that I wouldn't go back to. Ambiance in the restaurant was a little all over the place , harvest pumpkin decor was out, additional decor was being taken out assuming so they redecorate. I had the Thai tea with boba , it was okay. Service was okay, food was not great bill was over $55 for two teas, salad, sandwich and shrimp on skewers. read more

Whoa. What happened to this gem? We started eating here bcuz the food and service is reallllly good. Cant deny that. Thats why its a gem. We hadnt come for a few weeks and finally stopped by today (Sun Jan 21) and it was chaotic. No one greeted or sat us so we sat ourselves. Robot machines brought other customers orders to us twice when we hadn't even been waited on. Finally, they took our order and the young guy waiter was nice but seemed stressed with being ordered everywhere outloud by an older lady in the back. She was loud. They hand delivered us shrimp rolls when we ordered pork rolls, the server said it was pork when clearly there was a shrimp tail hanging out. Omg. Not exaggerating. Then we took the rolls up to the front and the older lady running things insisted I ordered it. I'm a vegan and ordered an avocado tofu salad and my bf ordered the pork rolls. Not the response I expected to hear. Then they bring us our pho soup with no fixings (lemon, basil,etc) I had to go up there again and ask for it. They bring us a small plate w a few basil leaves on it...we asked for more. Then they forgot about making our pork rolls. Omg........what a disaster. Other customers looked annoyed that day also. Where are the girl waiters that were there before? Where's the owner? He's usually here and things are normal. Looked like an older lady was running things and ordering our waiter (who was very nice) around. When we got up to pay, she then apologized for getting the order wrong. Ok, thank you for being nice for the last few minutes of our time there. Food still ended up being really good after the whole frustrating experience. Seriously though, as a customer....this was a bad experience. If they dont clean up their service and attitudes, we aren't coming back. Of course, we will give it another chance. Hoping this was just a bad day but still doesn't excuse the customer service and lady's tone and attitude. Some advice: *hire more servers and staff, not more robots. There should be enough staff even of some call in sick or take days off. *greet and seat customers-there should always be someone available at the front desk *stop yelling or talking loudly at the workers, it makes customers feel uncomfortable and it's just plain tacky. Lower voices in the kitchen or build a separate wall so we can't hear the yelling *write down orders and repeat the order to the customer so there's a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING *don't argue with the customer before you even confirm who actually made the mistake *lower the music and switch to appropriate songs, less sexual songs. Omg felt like a loud club at 11am. Just play some cool, upbeat music with no lyrics. At least in the morning. Please, don't have someone in management message me. Just fix things. read more

Decided to try this place. It's in the Walmart shopping center. Went there last Tuesday night and there was plenty of seating availability. The service was great. It took about 10-15 minutes for our food to be ready. Pros: Restaurant is nice and clean and so are the restrooms. Service was great. They have a robot server. Cons: The food was average. I had the house special pho and the broth didn't have much flavor and neither did the meat. Also had the lollipop pork chops and I didn't like the cream that was put on them. Would have tasted better without it. read more

This place looks really nice, food tasted good but unfortunately they were short on staff. This place is big but more than half of the tables were dirty with plates on the tables. Our meals didn't took that long but there was only one waitress so getting her attention took a while and it seems she was new. Its cool they have the cat robot, there's some very nice tables on the corner but unfortunately we couldn't use them. I will give them a second chance because food tasted good and hopefully they have more staff. read more

Just tried this place for the first time today with my dad who has been there several times. This is the best of both worlds being a fusion creation of Pho and Mexican. I tried the Pho burrito and was not disappointed! It basically has all the basics of a great pho wrapped in a tortilla and served with pho broth for dipping. What an amazing creation! I will definitely be back as there were so many other goodies I want to try on their menu. Definitely recommend!! read more

I like the decoration of the restaurant but their spicy beef noodle soup was very disappointed me. I think it was the worst ever I had tried in my life. They used all pork meat while this is called spicy beef noodles soup (Bun Bo Hue). My friend ordered Pho, the pho was ok, but the veggies plate was bad. The waitress gave me a veggie plate was horrible, very little for 2 Pho bowls, look even worse than leftover veggies I ate at different Pho restaurants. I don't think I will comeback. read more

Wow!!!! Me and my son randomly stopped here for lunch and what can I say we are obsessed,we are both vegan and the phorito was amazing the tofu was so flavorful and the staff was SO FRIENDLY!!! I have been waiting for months for this place to open. But as they say all good things come to those who wait. you just have to try it , its just so delicious! my wife and i went on a whim , hoping it was open and it was! we had the spring rolls , queso egg rolls , the pho burrito, and chicken pho! everything was delicious! and if you are worried about this , their food as no msg . i personally dont mind msg but if you don't like it , this is the place for you! the owner and her staff were kind and attentive which made the experience even better. 10/10 will comeback just for the pho burrito and queso egg rolls alone! note: the photos are after we ate about half of the food because it was so delicious we had a hard time stopping to think "get a photo for yelp!" read more

After months of waiting, Phomex finally opened. So far, it's very good. We've been here twice already and both food, and services were excellent. We had the chance to speak with some of the employees and provided them our feedbacks. This restaurant is a must. We came in with a party of 15 and were accommodated right away and placed in the VIP Lounge/Room. Every thing we ordered was absolutely amazing from the appetizers to the main course and all of the drinks. The hospitality and service was excellent.
