Love the concept of Vietnamese AND Mexican cuisine (not to be confused as fusion style). Wanted something different on my lunch break that wasn't a chain and packed some flavor. I got a Pork Bahn Mi with a Sprite and the bread is toasted wonderfully, packed with veggies and the flavors are like an explosion in my mouth. I really might spend a week exploring the rest of the menu and try the Mexican food. I give this place 4.5 star for food *only*. its a very small shop with 5 seats so mostly take out, nothing much to review about the inside. The pho was flavorful, had good broth and the accompaniment. I had the P6 with round steak and brisket, it was quite tender and tasty. I was honestly pretty disappointed with how my pho turned out, given the high reviews. The broth was lacking flavors that typically come with Vietnamese spices and was pretty one-dimensional. The noodle portion in my pho was much smaller than other places I've visited and they were overcooked, super soft, and lacked the bounce that good rice noodles have. The meat was at least decent. The bean sprouts that came with the meal looked pretty old and the jalapeños literally had no spice to them so I had to add sriracha. I ate inside and regretted it because it started to get really hot because there wasn't a wall separating the kitchen from the seating area. Service was mid, I did not get any water and I had to pick up and return my meal at the counter so honestly I felt like I was just eating takeout at the restaurant and I don't know what I tipped for. read more

The marinated pork provided plenty of juices to cascade throughout the sandwich and fill every bite with flavor. The veggies and jalapeños were fresh and plentiful. Ummmm wtf? I've had better noodles in prison. My friend and I were in the mood for Pho in our neighborhood. I found this place looking for something close. We walked into this Pho restaurant with Spanish music playing. As we looked over the menu we saw one side of the menu was Vietnamese and the other side of the menu was ALL Mexican food (tacos, nachos, quesadillas, tortas, burritos). The Pho they served us was not good at all, it wasn't even hot when they served it to us. It was fatty cheesesteak meat, with dollar store packs of noodles in basic chicken stock. Our Pho was lacking all the good stuff, no bean sprouts, Thai basil, limes, jalapeños, and green onions. They horribly chopped up the cilantro, skimped on the onions and gave us regular basil. I had to ask for limes and jalapeños... The condiments they had on the side to put in your Pho was sad. A tobasco "sriracha" sauce and some watered down brown sauce in a re-used tobasco bottle. Had the eye round steak pho (pho tai) and even though it wasn't exactly a traditional presentation, the broth was pretty tasty and the beef was nice and rare. Well sized portion with a good helping of noodles overall. It's definitely a downscale spot but it was late and we were hungry and I was happy that they were open. It's super tiny. I think there are like 4 seats at the window bar inside. I've gone to many pho places when I travel for work. Was curious to try this place since never had pho in Philly. So how was it? I liked it, was it great? By means not but it was good enough. Heading inside, you could understand this is more of a to-go place. the place is small and seating is a bench by the window with the hot sun beating down on you. Felt like a hole in the wall place so was looking forward to the Pho indeed. The broth had a strong beef flavor to it, doesn't seem like they used any of the aromatics like most other pho places. I didn't taste any star anise, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom flavors. If they did, it was not enough to make it noticeable, you just get this punch of strong beef flavor, which was not bad. Now the noodles is another thing, you got to just blanch them right so there is a nice chewiness and they do not break apart as you eat it. They did this pretty good. Condiments where non existent other than the Sriracha and Hoisin the cashier gave me. Most pho places generally give you a small plate with Thai basil, bean sprouts, sliced jalapenos, and sometimes slice lemons/limes. This place didn't have that, I just got a bowl of pho with basil leaves on top and that was it. Would I return, possibly if I really craved pho and didn't was in a rush to go to a place that had all the accoutrements. read more

When I first walked in here it kind of threw me off guard. First of all, the menu has both Vietnamese food, and Mexican food; also, the kitchen seemed to be run by 3 Hispanic men. So, at this point I am torn between two types of food I love - do I order Vietnamese, or do I order Mexican. I decided to stick to my original plan and ordered pork banh mi, and my daughter ordered beef and meatball pho. My daughter said pho was really good (and we have had pho all over the place); banh mi was just good enough for me. I think they quickly stir fried the meat in a pan because while eating lots of juice dripped. I prefer the grilled pork. The flavour was nice, but it just did not hit the spot. For now, banh mi from Ba Le still steals the spot! I would like to try their Mexican fare next time and see how it stacks up to other Mexican places. All in all it is a good place to grab some lunch. There are only about 5 barstools so take outs will be more realistic (unless you go before noon time and snag a seat). read more

The do offer dine-in but it's four tiny bar chairs facing the window and can't imagine it being too comfortable. We got the deluxe pho and the portion size was way more than enough. My friend raved about this place to me. I trust his opinion because he is Vietnamese, has been to Vietnam, and has told me, this place is great. So today I gave it a try and ordered for pickup online on their website. I ordered the Grilled Chicken over Rice and Tomato and pickled carrots and I believe daikon? With a side of fish sauce. And I also ordered the Tofu Summer Roll. I ordered it 15-20 minutes before leaving work, and got a text when it was ready for pickup. Seamless and easy. The summer rolls came with peanut sauce (beware if you're allergic) and it was delicious. It was PACKED. I was eating it at home and was thick. At the risk of it sounding dirty, I couldn't fit it in my mouth. The Grilled Chicken was generously GENEROUSLY SEASONED just right. The lemongrass came through, it was fragrant, savory, salty, charred just right. The rice perfectly cooked, soft, chewy, could see the grains. Paired with the fish sauce, it was well balanced.
