Thrilled to report that the Vietnamese restaurant from the Staples plaza moved to Main Street in Binghamton in Dec 2020 (yes it took me 18 months to figure that out). Bruce and Julia have relocated to a spot on the blue bus route and are going great guns with support from the community! Woo woo! New menu design but same favorites - my go-to is always the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken vermicelli bowl (extra peanuts please). Mild heat is plenty for me out you can get that adjusted to your taste. They now accept credit cards but there is an up charge. Ca phe sua da (iced Vietnamese coffee) is authentic but brewed in advance so you don't have to wait for the drip. Authentic ingredients. This is a pretty legitimate Vietnamese restaurant in a limited Asian food area. The prices are decent for the amount of food you get for entrees. Appetizers are a bit expensive but taste very good. The servers are very nice. It has a very "mom and pop" shop feel and the owners try their best to get you quality food. They are closed on Sunday's and Mondays to restock their supplies. Great Pho! I went here with my roommate (it's a 25-minute walk from campus, for those interested) and we ordered the summer rolls, roasted duck Pho, and fresh fish Pho. Everything was delicious. This gets 5 stars because it is probably the best Pho restaurant in Binghamton. Pho Ga (Chicken rice noodle soup) is what me and my wife had. We did the carry out and service was quick (10-15 min). Each Pho is about $20. The restaurant is right on Main (Court) St next to Nirchi's Pizza. The condiments are pretty close to what I remember Vietnamese restaurants using in New Orleans, LA. FYI - this place is now located on Main st in Binghamton. I absolutely love this place! The sweet Vietnamese owner makes this place even better! He comes out and chats with his customers and always has a take to tell. This is the best Pho I've ever had! I've tried pho at many places throughout NY, and this place is hands down the greatest! Very flavorful, great portions, and always fresh. I have no idea how anyone could give this place a bad rating. I've eaten some flavorless pho, but this place doesn't lack flavor. I'm a pescatarian/vegetarian, but still get the bone beef broth because that's where the flavor is at. I have ordered the vegetarian pho too, and it's delicious. The tofu is cooked to perfection, which is not the case at other pho restaurants. Their pho is served with a generous plate of Thai basil, lime wedges and bean sprouts. That is always passed over at other pho restaurants. Make sure you order the fried bread with you pho and dip it. Yum!! I've eaten at this place over a dozen times, and have never been disappointed! I went back the first time after they moved to their new location. Drop two stars from 4. Actually it's more like 2.5 but I am strugglung to give them 3. They have become the most overpriced Vietnamese anywhere. Food is still okay. Not great but far from being the worst. Portions are still small and so is the menu. My wife and I had actually gone to the Binghamton location. Not bad and not the greatest Viet food I've had. I gave them 3 stars because you can't expect much from Upstate New York and I want to support this local small family ran business, plus they didn't have any baguettes to make any bahn mi - that was definitely a downer. I had the pho dac biet, which was okay flavor-wise, decently portioned with the option to step it up by adding extras at a cost. My wife had the bun bo hue, which was not as spicy as cautioned - American spicy level so it's not spicy for us at all. My wife was unfortunately sick from her order but the flavor profile of the dish was there. Typical Vietnamese hole in the wall. Decor reminded me of my own upbringing and all the items were indeed from Vietnamese origins. Even the yellow painted walls. The service was quick but not the friendliest. It's all business usually with Vietnamese restaurants so I wasn't expecting anything more. I got the spring rolls first with shrimp and steak which was barely anything, more veggies to make the roll look big. I got the special pho which was a good size and all the meats were tender and good proportion of noodles to meats. The flavors of the soup itself was a bit bland. Also they didn't have real pho spoon! That is just not a good sign, I mean pho is usually eaten with a larger spoon to get the full effect of noodles and soup all in one bite. I visit this place whenever I'm in town. I love the spicy beef noodle soup. The owner/server is a little annoying at times but the soup is worth it so I just ignore him. For example, the last couple of time I came in, he tried to convince me to order the ramen noodle. Maybe it was the special he was trying to get rid of. Idk but I didn't come in for the ramen. Anyhow. I digress. Usually this spicy noodle soup is amazing but today I notice that they skimmed on the meat. My bowl had a lot of fatty meat pieces and the Vietnamese ham aka cha lau was paper thin. There were only 2 slices in the bowl. Wth!!!?? They sliced it so thin (see pic) I couldn't even taste the flavor of the cha lau! I hope the owner/wait staff reads the reviews and do something about this. I Would hate to not support this place due to lack of quality. I gave them 2 stars because service could use a little improvement and they need to do better with the food they sell to the customers. When walking it the restaurant automatically felt very cold and not welcoming at all. When asking the server for food recommendations they were very rude and saying how we had to look at the menu. Also had a service dog and they were very unwelcoming of him and constantly telling us and interrupting our convo to say how we couldn't have our dog here. First off the good: they have great pho! A rich and flavorful broth and great rice noodles. The sides are standard but the meat is pretty good. Especially the roast duck. The shrimp summer rolls and the fried egg rolls were meh, so come for the pho. The bad: Umm the service was strange to say the least. There's an older man who seems to be the only server. He seemed to have a pretty good command of the English language and generally sociable. But he started off with an overtly racist comment that was seriously off putting. In fact I contemplated leaving it was so offensive. But as he talked more, he seemed genuinely unaware and seemed to mean no harm.
