It's been awhile since we last dine in. Came with family for some pho noodles before grocery shopping. Had pho noodles and vegetable summer rolls. My sister in law is vegetarian and didn't like her vegetarian pho because the quality of the veggies seems to be on the "going bad" side. Mushy tartly tomato and hard tofu (she said it tasted like it's old). It was the same small cube fried tofu in the summer roll which also tasted odd and rock hard. A hearty pho in Brooklyn. As most places, the price has gone up significantly. I also do not like how they don't itemize your bill and charges you tax on top of it. They also rush you and move you around to smaller tables as they become available because they want to save the larger tables for group. So if you can accept all these things, than give it a try. Here is my go to for classic pho and Vietnamese rice dishes in Brooklyn. For a CHEAP price and good quality. I usually go here with my bf and we both usually get pho (once in a blue moon I try a rice dish) Today I decided to order something new off the rice dish section and got the beef with peppers, onions with steamed white rice. The dish had a slight kick but very flavorful and beef was cooked just right. My boyfriend's pho came out good as always with extra meet added. Service was quick, easy and staff double checked exactly what we wanted to order. Ambiance wise is very chill especially if you have been to a classic viet spot before. The pho broth is so flavorful, & wasn't watered down at all for both lunch AND dinner - a majorly positive change from when it was Pho Tay Ho! Service is quick & efficient, and to say that portions are generous is an understatement. My go to, the #1 Xe Lua, is humongous and perfect for a cold winter day. Bun bo hue here is also fragrant and delicious. Fried spring rolls come out piping hot, and I appreciate how they provide separate bowls of dipping sauce if you're dining with a friend. Besides the name change, I wonder why people say there's a change in management from Pho Tay Ho. The decor and menu are all the same. Only difference is that things got more expensive. The main man at the counter (boss, is he still?) and this younger lady (she's a bit annoying sometimes) are the same people. The old timer Hispanic bros (real brothers) aren't here anymore, but there's a new Hispanic guy who's also very diligent. A new Viet auntie works part time I believe. She's swift too. Comparing to 5-10 years ago, this place has gone down so much considering amount of customers and employees. When we first came back after covid (2021?) it was frustrating when they'd close at 8 or 8:30 vs back then they were open till 10. Now it's slightly pushed back to 9. I haven't come here for the majority of 2023, but I've been coming back regularly again. I keep on getting the grilled pork over rice. I like how it's boneless unlike the pork chop. Portions are good considering there's enough meat for me to have one bite of meat with one bite of rice. The most important thing for me is their sweet fish sauce. That is the differentiator amongst other Viet restaurants. I drown all my meats in their sauce. It's strong enough while being bright, sweet, and thin consistency. Their rice is fluffy and soft as usual. Meat is meat, which they do a good job here but it's easy to find nice ones elsewhere too. It's juicy and their sweet marinate is flavorful. My parents say that the Shun Fa bun isn't as good as it used to. Otherwise I think everything else is same as before. No. 1 is still always the best deal. I just don't necessarily like the beef parts in there and the type of noodles they use. I haven't tried their broth in a while but the rice is way more consistent imo. read more

Our Favorite Pho restaurant for 20+ yrs. I've had pho in jersey, city, Vegas,San Fran, basically anywhere that has a china town. This is still my favorite Viet restaurant. They are consistent and no fuss. If you come here for customer service and niceties than it's not for you. You come you enjoy their food and you get out, all tried and true Asian hot spots are set up this way. Their focus is good food. Finally, some pho in Bensonhurst! I remember searching a bit ago and not finding many Viet options in the area. To my surprise, Pho Number One appeared when my dad and I were looking for a quick lunch one day. The service was spectacular. The lady who seems to co-run the place even suggested I take the smaller portion of the #1 in case I didn't finish. She had good intuition, as these bowl sizes were no joke! Starting with apps, I of course, gotta test the waters with something like Summer Rolls ($6.95). From the size and appearance alone, I was in high hopes. They did not disappoint with its juicy shrimp. The rice paper was thicker than some places, which was great in encompassing the ingredients into one bite. How considerate and sanitary that they gave a peanut dip for each roll! The Xe Lua ($13.95), aka the #1, was ginormous, courtesy of the bowl it was placed in. I loved the presentation compared to bowls from other Viet places. Every beef ingredient is laid out, and some meat was red, so you know it was literally just served up. If you want a smaller bowl, the Dac Biet ($12.95) was the same option, just smaller. The broth was well flavored, and up there with every delicious pho place I went to. Their beef briskets, tendons, eye of round, etc. were also huge pieces. I normally don't notice the rice noodles in my pho, but I can really taste the texture and taste of them here. Under new management and new store name, still a decently priced restaurant for the local Bensonhurst residents. Pho is a hard dish to pitch for me since I grew up with it. The quality in my pho dish was ok, not outstanding. Flavor wise it lacked that five star anise and spice kick. Their rice dishes on the other hand are extraordinary. My grilled pork chop over rice with egg patty was spot on. The same goes for the chicken curry with a fresh baguette. Decent sized restaurant with affordable prices for the regular Vietnamese dishes. Just a heads up, this place used to be called Pho Tay Ho. I have been going here for around 15+ years and it used to be a go-to spot for Vietnamese food. However, food quality has sharply fallen while the prices have been skyrocketing. The last time I was there, one of the waitresses was muttering curses in Cantonese directed towards another table. It's such a shame to see a place that used to be great go downhill. If you want Vietnamese food and prefer a place that respects you, go head over to Pho 86 near 20th ave (it's around a 15 minute walk from here). Food is authentic, flavorful and very reasonably priced. My meal was 13$ for a big plate of food. Plus complementary hot tea and variety of sauces (hoisin, sriracha, and chili sauce) located at your table. The food comes out within minutes of ordering. I would come here so much more often if it wasn't for the rough around the edges service. They seem like they are always in a rush and willing to make simple accommodations but appear reluctant to wanting to make such accommodations. The waitress was asking for tips after we give her, the total that we ate is 90.65, and we gave her 106 that included tips, then she gave 5.35 changes. She totally didn't check and take a look how much do we pay. If she didn't take the tips, she suppose to gave 15.35 changes back, then she just gave 5 dollars ish, that's literally ridiculous... The only problem I have been having recently is the lady at the front desk has an attitude when my friends and I don't tip and she peer pressures us to tip.
