Service was great, clean establishment, covid protocols in place. Well done there. I had #4, rare beef and beef ball Pho. Was disappointed as a Pho lover. The broth lacked flavour, there was no basil, cilantro instead, and with no explanation for the substitute. Don't get me wrong, it was warm soup on a cooler day, but could've used more broth flavour which to me is the main part of the soup, hence all the sriracha and oil in the picture. I was dubious when my friends were adamant about this neighbourhood pho joint being their favourite. Really, a random rundown pho place in a Maple Ridge strip mall is better than my favourite East Van go-to? I was intrigued. I'm very picky with my pho and have done extensive research on the differences between Northern and Southern style, and I will trek out of my way for a good bowl of bun bo hue or bun rieu. In my experience, some of the best food is found at hole-in-the-walls, and I do have to say that Phuong Hong is no exception. Although I usually prefer Northern style pho (which is more savoury), pho here really hits the spot. I always go with a small house special or Pho Dac Biet (#1). On my first visit, I made the mistake of ordering a large and didn't even come close to finishing the bowl. It's a great deal for those with larger appetites though for only a dollar more! You get a substantial portion of rice noodles in a clear and fragrant broth. There's a nice assortment of different cuts of beef, with marbled brisket contrasting nicely with the texture of the raw flank steak. The aromatics really shine through but the notes of star anise and ginger aren't overpowering. For about $9, this is consistently one of the best bowls of pho I've had. If you're looking for something with a kick, the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef pho) is also well done here. The lemongrass broth is tangy and spicy and coats the thicker rice noodles nicely. There isn't the usual pork blood or pork hock in Phuong Hong's take, but plenty of sliced beef. Delicious - I'd definitely get this again. I would agree with some of the other reviews that service is pretty sparse here but the owner is super friendly and always tries his best. Food can come out a little slow when it's busier, so keep that in mind. They take debit and credit here which makes things more convenient. read more

This place def needs a more recent review. I live by Little Saigon in Southern California and I'm surrounded by authentic Vietnamese restaurants and I religiously eat Vietnamese food. We're staying in the area and couldn't decide which local Pho place we should give a shot and ended up choosing Pho Phuong Hong. I would say the Pho bowls are just as good as the ones I have back home. Really yummy stuff. If you're from out of town and you're visiting the area I'd say it's worth stopping by if you're craving it. For any local reading this and is unfamiliar I definitely suggest giving it a try! I know the rare meat may be scary but if you flip the noodles over the meat it'll cook, or ask them to cook it prior to putting it into the bowl, i'd say this location is definitely a Gem. read more

This place offers by far the best Pho I've ever had! I visit this place every week, sometimes twice a week. It's a family owned restaurant and the owner himself serves people. He's very approachable and funny, and never fails to put a smile on my face. The Pho they serve is really great, the broth is rich, there's so much meat in it, and it's very fast a affordable. The interior is a bit outdated (authentic though) and it's not a fine dining. But it's the place I come back over and over again for the food and nice chitchats. read more

The food was really good... once it came... once they took our order... once they brought us water and tea... once they cleaned the table. Service basics are completely forgotten or ignored. First of all you seat yourself here. That's fine and all but don't ignore or forget about me once I do. No water, no tea, no hello. I had to wave the guy down to order. And we had to ask for tea & water once the order was taken. Shouldn't that be automatic? The food took a while to get to us. The place was filled and we weren't the only ones waiting and waiting. In fact a table of 3 left, and a couple came in and sat down at the unbused table. They sat there for 10 solid minutes before they got up and left because no one came to clean the dirty table or acknowledge their presence. It's a shame really. The pho itself was delicious. The broth is one of the best I've tasted. Lots of noodles and meat. The spring roll was hot and crispy. They have the food nailed. It's the service they really have to work on. Will I return? I don't live anywhere near there so no. But even if I did I would not return until they get their service basics right. read more

Best pho spring rolls around no doubt. Owner is hilarious, and they are good people. The downside is that the cleanliness is VERY lacking. Washrooms almost always heavily soiled, tables and surrounding walls not clean, and I find the heavily used wooden chopsticks pretty gross. They should really put out wooden disposables. I worry about how bad the kitchen is if the actual dinning area is this soiled. The music is awesome, always the same tracks in rotation, and its part of the experience. Yet still... MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT HANDS DOWN. I am stunned because even though I worry about the state of cleanliness of the kitchen, the food is so good I don't care. I think it's the shoe that makes the broth so good. (Joke, there's no dirty shoe in the soup... I think?...) Horrific experience. As a long time customer, I have never received a worse meal than I did tonight. Two vermicelli meals were ordered, but received all noodles, and hardly any meat (less than 1/4 cup of meat each).
