    Bun Rieu
    C. H.

I do not understand the poor reviews. We ordered take out as I was craving bun rieu. This restaurant popped up in a quick search. There are not many restaurants that offers this menu item so it was an opportunity to taste and compare. We ordered a number of items: bun rieu, lemongrass pork chop, beef skewers and spring rolls. Food was ready in 25 minutes for pick up. Food was packed nicely. The spring rolls were as good as take out can be. It had lost some of the crispiness although I can tell it was made well. Also, I like my spring rolls made with rice paper which these ones are made from. The filling was nicely seasoned. The beef skewers were surprisingly flavourful and tender. I tried a piece of the lemongrass pork chop and it was a bit on the dry side. Lastly, the bun rieu was decent. It was not the worse that I have tried. Definitely, there are better options in Vancouver. However, it satisfied the craving without having to cross a bridge. There were slices of pork, ham, and tomatoes. I could taste some crab flavour. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. Prices were average.

Sen Viet Pho now Naomi Pho!

Saw the reviews of Sen Viet and was interested to try out, drove to Langley from Richmond and found out that they have changed name of the restaurant, asked if this is a new restaurant and the gentleman in charge told me that they have been opened for 10 years and only changed their name. Anyways, we decided to give them a try anyways, we ordered the following items: Young Lotus Root Salad $10.00 5/5 stars I had this salad before in Portland and it was already very delicious, Naomi's version is even more so!! The first bite makes you want to keep eating this salad, the combination of young lotus roots, steamed prawns, julienne of pork, topped with roasted shallots is so well balanced with texture and flavour that it is a perfect light appetizer! The secret is also the dressing; very very light with no oil at all, its sweet, tart, savoury at the same time!! Definitely recommend you try this!! House Special Pho (L) $12.50 4/5 stars My partner's choice whenever he goes to Pho shops! Their version is actually very different then the average Pho, the soup is very very light and clear with no trace of fat whatsoever! The flavour is a bit too light for my taste but my partner totally loves it! Yes, its very light but still you can still taste all the spices, all the different beef cuts in the Pho are all very very tender and not chewy as you may find in most other places. Another difference this Pho is to others; is the lack of cilantro, as you can see from my photo, they only put green onion and regular onion. Sen Viet Special Noodle (soup) $12.00 4/5 stars Lately, I had been exploring different options of soup base other then beef when I go to Pho shops, I love either pork bone or chicken based soups, its lighter and also gives the broth a different dimension. This is a special item that still keeps the "Sen Viet" name, it has slices of lean pork, prawns, dried shrimps, roasted shallots and fresh rice noodles. The dish can be served soup on the side with their own sweet soya sauce, I opt for the soup version, again super clean chicken broth without any traces of oil! the sliced pork is super lean as well, over all its a very very healthy bowl of noodles if you want something very light! Also, they don't put any cilantro as garnish as well, which I really like, maybe I will ask for some next time! Overall score: 5+4+4 = 13/3 = 4.33 stars!

I found this " vegetable and tofu" roll the most bland I've had. No herb, sauce , crunch.... I am a fresh roll lover, so a little discerning, but this was truly flavorless. Tofu, rice noodles, leaf lettuce and rice paper. Thats it. Like eating a carrier for too little peanut sauce. The pho was filling and came with a plate of bean sprouts referred to as "the vegetables" . The Vietnamese coffee was tasty but presentation awkward. It came as Condensed milk in a cup with a pour- over atop this and the separate glass of ice. I'm no expert in this ritual but I am accustomed to having the milk cold in the ice and the brewed coffee in a spouted vessel for easy pouring into the iced milk. Here we had to mix the brewed coffee, then add it dribbling and spilling to the ice. No big deal but awkward. It tasted good. The prices were reasonable and parking a lot shared with the strip mall . Not within the restaurant's control , but in circling for a spot around one lane, I was nearly backed into by not 2 not 3 but 4 cars. I think I recall a cannabis shop being in the mall or nearby. This may explain that. The service was friendly throughout. The place was empty but the time was odd. I don't think we'd return based upon the fresh rolls alone.

Banh mi's were both great but chicken was better, spring rolls were large and fresh, fried buns were new for us and we were glad we tried it. To kick off our experience we started with the fried pork sticky buns, and they did not last long. The crispy fried crust had a very unique texture, and contrasted wonderfully with the soft warm inside of sticky buns with BBQ pork filing. Next we dug into the Fried Combo, which included Egg Rolls, Potstickers and Crab Rangoon. The Egg Roll & Potstickers were unforgettable, but the Crab Rangoon was the real star of the show. Creamy crab filling wrapped in fried wonton paper, and some sweet chili sauce to dip in. Moving on to the entrees we shared the Beef & Shrimp Fried Noodle plate, and the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi. The fried noodles contained tender beef and succulent shrimp stir-fried with yellow noodles, Cabbage, Shredded Carrot, crisp bean sprouts, and garnished with fresh cilantro. The dish was very flavorful, with all the fresh veggies and spices tying together the noodles, shrimps and beef. Finally the banh mi. I will admit I have never tried a banh mi sandwich, but I am very glad this was my first one. All the vegetables on top provided an excellent crunch and the chicken was very tender with an amazing flavor. I also added picked jalapeño for an extra touch of heat. All in all this is a very great choice for anyone in the mood for some great Vietnamese cuisine. We will definitely be going into the restaurant next time to try something else!
