If you ran out of broth for pho, you need to say so and not accept orders and make your customers wait an hour. Also if you finally remake the broth somehow and bring out the pho but not the way it was ordered, the least you can do is say sorry. You can never go wrong with a bowl of pho. This place is no different. I find this location to be better than Leesburg. Their pho is outstanding with a rich broth, flowing noodles, and generous portions of succulent meat. Pho coming 11 is my favorite: well done brisket, flank steak, fatty brisket, & tendon. Had a cold French espresso to wash things down with. By far the highlight of my day. Service was very efficient and quick. It was just one server but he moved with the speed and grace of a ninja. Com tam: the pork was seasoned with one of those prepackaged Chinese spice nothing like Vietnamese. I couldn't eat all of it and had to tossed it out and wasted a $17.00 meal. It's a shame to wastes food in times where we have food insecurity in this country and world. The owner(s) should be ashamed for selling terrible overpriced food... I got 1 order of fresh spring roll (AKA summer Roll) and a #11. The summer rolls were just OK- not the worst, not the best I've tried, overall average. The number 11 comes with a variety of beef cuts which was nice as well as normal rice noodles. I was pretty underwhelmed with the flavor. The broth was bland and lacked in depth flavors. I added sriracha and all of the toppings to help the flavor, but it didn't seem to do much. The cuts of beef however were much better than the broth. Nothing beats a bowl of warm Pho on a chilly day, and Pho Royal was exactly what I needed during this Polar Vortex! Pho broth is a very personal taste preference, and for me, I love the broth here (not too fishy). I ordered for take-out, so I cannot speak to the dine-in experience, except to say that there was almost not one empty table in the dining room. Seems like a good sign. I won't remove a star for this, but I do feel that the price of the Pho here was more expensive compared to others I've tried in the area. This places was packed full of Asians on Sunday at lunch (always a good sign)! They have an extensive menu so you aren't stuck ordering pho. Crispy spring rolls were lackluster. Small, skinny and not much filling - I would skip this next time. Pho broth was rich and delicious. I barely had to use any Hoison sauce to flavor it up. It took a lot of Sriracha to get my broth spicy enough though so it makes me feel like they may have watered their bottles down. I ordered #11 and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of meat that it came with in my small bowl. I do feel like they slumped on noodles though. This was the first time I have ever finished my entire bowl of pho so the portions must be small. My husband ordered he lemongrass beef and fried egg and enjoyed it! It came with a small bowl of pho broth too. His portion was also a little small. We finished our meals with Vietnamese iced coffees which were delicious despite coming premade in a styrofoam cup. Pay at the front counter and they accept credit cards. Bonus for being able to tip on your cc receipt too. Will definitely be back for their pho but might get a large next time! read more

Tucked into a small strip of businesses within eyesight of Rt 7. Great meeting Jesse C, a lurking local, and the colorful Paul M who promises a smashing good time. Jimena looked gorgeous as always, and Lester was sporting his new vintage threads; poor fella bore the brunt of my garlic perfume, but if he likes durian then I figure he can take it. Three stars. I thought it was a bit tacky to refill water pitchers at a sink by the registers... I prefer the illusion of not knowing where it came from and being able to pretend it was filtered, I guess. Limes in the waters were sliced ultra thin, maybe a hair thicker than the pork in the spring rolls. Their peanut sauce was kinda heavy on ginger, and there was more sauce than roll in my to-go bag. The at-table rolls were definitely more generously stuffed. Such disappointment upon opening the stapled brown bag: sad, limp versions of what I had witnessed less than an hour before, one even bursting at a scrawny seam... As if in a course of an hour they had withered from forty years of malnutrition and drug abuse. Good broth in my #17, a tad clear but still flavorful. Clumpy noodles though. I think I got a total of half a beef ball in my soup, which seems like strange rationing. Lester and I were extra spoiled by Jimena's fatty discards. Service was really bizarre... a twitchy quiet server, and I was practically neglected at the end waiting for my summer rolls to go; convenient excuse to break the $10 credit card minimum. The metro, fluent English-speaker at the counter was a good sport about splitting the bills (he looked like Kevin's doppelganger!). Not sure if I'll be back since I'm getting used to boba and pho going hand in hand. Moral of story: don't get the summer rolls to go, they're fatter if you order it to eat there. ================ 11/5 update: Good meeting Evan, and refreshing to see Jimena breeze in and embrace me with such warmth after a morning in my cold, cold office. Oh yes, and reuniting with James and John was excellent since they're both beef soup for the soul (see what I did there?). I've been going to Pho Royal for years, so it's about time I wrote a review. Keeping it simple, the pho broth here is exceptional. No hoisin sauce, nor sriracha needed. I am a huge broth purist, so I usually don't add all that extra sauce anyway. The pho here is perfect in my opinion without it. If you're not feeling beef, the chicken pho here is excellent as well. The clear broth is sure to clear up your sinuses if you're sick, or to just satisfy your stomach if you're there for a pho fix. The com tam here is more pricey than I'd like to pay for a plate of broken rice, meat, and pickled veggies, but it's done right. The ingredients are always fresh and the nuoc mam is great as well. Always a favorite when I'm not craving soup. Whatever you get at Pho Royal is sure to please! Enjoy, fellow Pho lovers. PS: Did I mention the service is FAST? The only consistent pho place in the area. We've been going here for years now and our experiences have been pretty good for the most part. The pho is flavorful and they give you a good amount of noodles and meat for your money's worth. The side vegetables are a hit/miss, but usually good. (All who knows me well knows I take my veggies very seriously haha) The vermicelli and broken rice dishes are quite tasty as well. Though for the choice of protein, I would recommend getting either the 1) pork 2) chicken 3) beef in that particular order. The beef just doesn't seem to quite hit the spot and fresh like the other protein choices, but that's just me. The prices for the dishes are pretty reasonable, but I've seen cheaper pho places. Oh, if you have ever received/bought a gift card with them, make sure to use it within 12 months of purchased reason being the gift cards expires... A lesson learned for me. Pho Royal is Pho-king good! Driving around on a chilly Saturday Afternoon, looking for a bite to eat, but not really knowing what I wanted to eat. Didn't feel like having fried chicken or anything else in the area for that matter. Then we spotted Pho Royal. It seemed like that would be the appropriate comfort food for that moment. The good: The Pho was excellent! The broth was so delicious and the star Anise with all the other spices was very apparent. I had the combo with the tripe, beef tendon, beef and other goodies. It came with a plate of bean sprouts, mint leaves and lime. I licked it down to the last drop. Prices were not too bad for the portion sizes. There's actually quite a lot of space and the tables are not too crowded together. The bad: The place can get crowded and really noisy. There was maybe two servers and a bus boy that seemed to be disorganzed. It looked like a less than typical Pho joint. Dirty looking, drab, straight out of the back streets of Vietnam. I read the prior reviews and everybody says this place is clean, but on the day of my visit. Nope. Not so much. The ugly: The service really sucked. We sat down and no one brought us menus for a while. I had to flag someone down and ask for them. No one checked our fluid levels. I ran out of water and never got a refill. The bus boy didn't properly bus our table and I had to get up and get a napkin dispenser from another table myself. Then I had to get the bill myself after there was no one to flag down anymore. Finally got around to visiting Pho Royal again for delicious, nutritious Pho Ga. A work colleague and I visited on a cold, rainy day earlier this week. We both ordered the small Pho Ga with white meat, and split an order of their fried rolls. Rolls were tasty, the accouterments for the Pho were in a fresh, crisp condition - although we needed more - I asked for a second plate of aromatics/veggies - which they promptly provided. Pho broth was absolutely tasty and delicious. As with all good Pho places - they serve their Pho Ga with a chicken broth - NOT a beef broth. We asked our server about the rumored new location for another Pho Royal in Leesburg. He confirmed that it was opening soon - and that it would be near The Home Depot. While we were there, but who should appear? None other than that bottomless pit of a carnivore, the ravenous Sergeant-At-Arms of the Pho Force - Lester! I used to have to run over to Centreville or Annandale for good pho, but this place is just as good! Very flavorful broth (VERY IMPORTANT!), not too much oil in the soup, and pretty good portions. Be aware, it's VERY COLD INSIDE but the food is WORTH IT so just bring a jacket !! Pricing is decent: be prepared to spend $8-14 per person with $4-10 appetizers. I always get their Com Dia Royal, which includes suon, dau hu ky, op la, and bi (grilled/charred pork, shrimp/pork wrapped in fried bean curd skin, sunny side up egg, and shredded pork). It really is a conglomeration of various savory meats. The pork is seasoned really well and charred so that it has that tinge of burntness (may be a good or bad thing for some lol). There's just so many things going on this plate that I wish they had a bigger plate for this. The small side of pickled vegetables and salad complements the meats by giving a lighter, refreshing side to the dish. Of course, the soup is the same one they use for pho, which is great on a cold day or any day actually. The pho is also pretty good and was originally based on the pho place that used to be under the plaza with the clock tower in Herndon (Pho 99?). read more

No matter where I am in town but if I feel like having PHO then it has to be at Royal PHO. Owner Cindy has done great job of having same pho every time and consistency is always same. We happened to stumble on this place heading to our POI on a cold, windy, wet, gloomy weekend and had to make a pit-stop. Pho wasn't bad. The noodle were pre-made and came out all sticking together (even being dunked in hot soup). The broth tasted more pre-made powder stuff than actual meat bones & meat (for the broth. The meat was standard- not overdone but not overly fresh either. The side veggies were fresh and clean. The place itself was decently sized and kept pretty clean, with mild-mannered staff. Price was a tad on the high side ($9 for a small) I didn't like seeing all my fav Viet dessert pre made, in cups, in the fridge, ready to go; it made me wonder how long they'd been sitting there. When we got there, the whole place was empty and this restaurant is in a dark small plaza.. Maybe I came with a low expectation and I was not able to eat Asian for almost 10 days.. Pho Royal is an excellent pho joint, I definitely recommend it. It gets pretty crowded for lunch, and with good reason. Their pho tai chin checks off basically all of the attributes I look for: good portions, comes out really hot and steamy, very lean and thin cuts of meat, lots of broth, good quality fixings. The beef broth is pretty beefy... I guess I'm looking for just a little more punch of the asian spices to elevate it's "pho-iness"? And maybe just a tad on the salty side. The chicken pho (pho ga) is lighter, thus the spice balance is much better suited - it's absolutely delicious. The crispy rolls are tasty, but unexceptional. Service is nice enough, decor is nice enough. It's a step up from the cafeteria-style joints, but not fancy. I can see why people give it 5 stars, but it doesn't quite get there for me. read more

Given the positive reviews, we agreed to give it a try- and we are glad we did! The staff was attentive and friendly with our mixed requests of hang over food- fresh coconut drinks, as well as wine was available to us. The table ordered pho and rice dishes. The Pho was decent, although I had to add some Sriracha and Hoisin sauce to the soup for flavor. I have had better on the West coast, but it was good for what it was and for the area.
