This is my second visit to this pho place in OP. I really loved the Banh mi I tried in my last visit. I ordered Beef pho & my friend ordered Fried chicken with rice. Pho is one of my absolute favorite foods, especially when the temperature drops or I am not feeling my best. I swear it has magical healing powers. I've been to Pho Sai Gon a good amount of times. I've been a couple times more recently and noticed a few changes. It is cafeteria style as others mentioned. There is now a conveyor belt for dirty dishes to send to the back. Nice! There are pros and cons to me on the cafeteria style. I like being able to pick my seat and not having a server I feel like I can go solo and not feel awkward. I also like being able to grab whatever toppings (basil, sprouts, jalapeños etc) I want. Downside is sometimes there are a bunch of dirty tables and you have to clean the table yourself. I order the same thing every visit; I need to try more things. I always get the beef pho and egg rolls. The pho is solid 4/5 for me. I really like the egg rolls. They are perfectly crispy. Another plus for me is that there are pictures for all the menu items so you know what to expect. I will continue to frequent Pho Sai Gon. Definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

No frills good pho. I'm from SGV in SoCal and was close to Orange County as well, so I've had plenty of great pho, and was honestly worried that I wouldn't be able to get any in Kansas City. But my fears were overblown because this place is great! It's a cafeteria style seating - order pho at the front and pay, then choose and clean your own table. Then when your pho is ready you can collect it. You can get lemon, basil, bean sprouts, sriracha and hoisin sauce etc from the bar next to the counter. Workers were friendly! The price for a medium bowl was comparable or a couple dollars more to what I'd pay for a medium bowl in SoCal, but this bowl was more like a large! The portions of soup, noodles, and beef were all generous. It was a lot of food and I think I could get away with a small next time. The flavors were good - nice savory broth with balanced spices. The meat was good too, though one thing to note is that you cannot choose a specific cut of beef (like what I'm used to) it's a little of everything like rare beef, brisket, flank, and meatballs. If you're picky about meat cuts this may not be your place. Another thing to note is that they don't skim off the fat off the broth. This leads to a richer more delicious broth in my opinion but may not be for everyone. I'm coming back when I have my next pho craving - though I may try the vermicelli next! read more

I heard good things about Pho Saigon, and was excited to go here for dinner when visiting Overland Park, KS. It's a self serve model, so you place and pick up your order at the counter, then clean up your own table afterward. They have such a good variety of Viet dishes that not many Viet restaurants offer. The place itself is kind of a get in get out sort of vibe. So I wouldn't say date place unless you just want really good food and your date is OK with that. They have a station to get extra goodies for your food. Very functional. The staff are very kind and helpful. The food tho, that's the winner I had Bahn Mi which I've had before, but it was probably the best I've ever had. And I tried Cahn Bun for the first time and it was so delicious. Kind of hidden spot on 148th ish and Metcalf, in between a car shop and a taekwondo gym, is a staple pho spot in Overland Park. This is my to go spot down south! Everything is pretty solid here and it's nice you can grab your own condiments to your liking. Their banh mi sandwiches are pretty good and best when dipped in some pho broth ;). But they do sell out before 5, so if you're wanting to make sure you get one I would call ahead to secure it! Their servings are a pretty decent size so if you order a large I would definitely make sure you're HUNGRY. I will say sometimes their pho broth is better on certain days than others, but still always pretty good consistently. read more

I went to school near garden grove aka little Saigon and have been to Vietnam before. This is Real authentic pho! The broth is full of flavor and was great after a late night out. A friend recommended Pho Sai Gon to me on my hunt for more authentic Vietnamese dishes. First, I was a bit confused by the setup, and there wasn't a sign or anyone to help explain. You order at the counter, take a buzzer, and come back to pick up your food. There's also water, a veggie station, and condiments that you serve yourself; and a rack for your dirty dishes afterward. I haven't seen a VN restaurant set up this way before, but I can't say I minded it. It was certainly efficient. First, this is the first place I've found in the KC area where my dad actually liked the pho. Having a place to bring my parents when they visit is a must. I was also happy to see banh xeo and banh cuon on the menu! Both were good, in my opinion, but I thought it odd that the banh xeo used chicken instead of shrimp and pork. Updated review: 3.5 stars overall. I like that they had a toppings bar. I'd come to try some other dishes. Order at the register, pick up when your name is called, and self-bus your dishes. Banh mi: The baguette was mediocre, but I wasn't expecting much. The banh mi here has the variation of soy sauce (tasted like Maggi's; if you know, you know) and char siu, neither of which I like. I'd recommend it if you like salty, savory flavors, but I prefer a more classic banh mi. Weirdly, the jalapenos in my sandwich were not spicy at all, when normally even any sign of jalapeno is enough to make me need water. Beef pho: Decent pho I'd come back for, but it was a little heavy on the cinnamon/cardamom (?) flavor. It didn't have a heavy powder residue at the bottom like you get with instant pho mixes, so it's better than I've tried in Kansas City. Egg rolls: Not great. It had a similar flavor to good egg rolls, but the inside was so mushy you couldn't really tell what the ingredients were. Banh da lon/layer cake: Something about this tasted a little off, almost grassy. There wasn't enough pandan/coconut flavor either. Still, I was happy to see this on the menu. read more

This is the ONLY place I go for my Vietnamese food fix. I've been here countless times, and each time has yet to disappoint. There are plenty of seats available, and the menu is right on the wall. It is so easy to just head towards the register and see what you like before ordering! You just get a little buzzer and pick your seat. There is a little stand on the side for water refills, sauces, and soup toppings! I always order the pho with rare steak and spring rolls, and I'll dabble in some fried rice every now and then. There's just something about the food that I just can't stop eating. It probably helps for me that no cilantro is added in the soups or spring rolls (yes I know I'm on the side of cilantro haters), so it's a plus not having to pick anything out. I've also tried their veggie pho, which also packs a lot of flavor for being vegetarian! Please give this a try if you've got a craving for delish Vietnamese food! read more

This place deserves more business! It is an authentic Vietnamese mom and pop shop with amazing food. I got the banh xeo and it was delicious! I just wish it had more of the meat/shrimp filling. The nuoc mam was a bit bland. The banh xeo itself was large with crispy sides. The bun bo hue was authentic and has a unique spice to it. Pho Saigon is a cafeteria style restaurant. You order at the register, they give you a beeper, and you pick up your food. You choose your add-ons, vegetables, sauces, etc.. at the condiment bar. If your table it dirty, they provide cleaning supplies (antibacterial/cleaning spray, towels, paper) for you to clean it. And you bus your own table when you're done. Although some people may not prefer this style of restaurant, I love it. It gives me a homey feel. They don't expect you to tip, although I always do - just 5-10% - and I get to choose where to sit and for how long. Even so, the staff are really nice and accommodating. The food is the best part. Their pho soup is excellent. The broth is clear and light. The meat is fresh and tasty, the noodles chewy and slurpilicious. The bun thit nuong (grilled pork with noodles, fresh lettuce, pickled daikon and carrot, plus crispy egg roll) is mouthwatering. Their banh mi (sandwiches) are delicious, grilled pork, fresh cucumbers, cilantro, jalapeno, and pickled carrots. Their fried chicken with saffron rice, cucumbers, lettuce, and pickled daikon and carrots is incredible. The chicken is so crispy, and they give you 2 HUGE pieces. I could go on.. Whenever I'm craving something Vietnamese this is the first place I think of. Their portions are generous and the details of each dish makes me appreciate this place even more. We've gone here several times already and I'm just now getting to writing a review. It's a really great place to get your Vietnamese food cravings. In this particular visit, we got some Bun Bo Hue, rice with meat, and Bun Dac Biet. The bun was superb as always. The rice with meat was really good and the meat was sweet. The Bun Bo Hue was amazing as well, but just as a personal preference I would have liked it to be a bit more concentrated. This was a huge portion though (I got the large).
