Side of fresh crunchy veggies for the bahn mi
    Melinda H.

This is my second visit here & it did not disappoint! I tried the banh mi this time & it was very good! The bread was very good with a crunchy outside & a soft chewy inside. It's marinated in a sauce that is really good, but the best surprise was they said they DON'T USE SEED OIL in their marinade! Now if you get something fried then you're back on the seed oil bandwagon, but their sandwiches & bread do not have any seed oil in them! The veggies they give you for your sandwich were nice & crunchy, super fresh! I LOVE this place!

Got banh mi thit nuong so that I could compare it across the different banh mi spots in KC. I think so far, BB Banh mi does it the best - I liked the meat, the mayo, the pate and the amount of vegetables given. Most importantly is the bread - some places just use standard baguettes which isn't quite right for Vietnamese banh mi. Service was fine - you order at the counter and wait for your order to be ready. There's a station inside for you to get extra toppings like bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapenos, etc. There's plenty of tables for inside dining too. I'd probably come back - pricing is okay, but I do miss how banh mi used to cost $4 years ago.

Went in for a BBH and absolutely fall in love with the sate sauce they had! It's super flavorful and spicy. The place set up to the a self serve kinda place. There are condiments bar for you to get what you need. I ordered a BBH and my bf got a banh mi xiu Mai to go and a grilled beef banh mi. Both were really good. Again I love their sate sauce here! Definitely would come back for more as they have more items on their menu. And the price isn't too bad. $7 for banh mi and $14 for bun Bo Hue.

    Beef pho

TLDR; the pho was good/delicious, and I will be back to try the other items. The place is an old revamped Wendy's that's been semi brought up to date but it has the vibe of a start up restaurant from the 90s. The menu is simple. It has the basic items, which I think can be a good thing in terms of making sure you're focused on what you're good at. The biggest issue about this place is that it's not the easiest to get into if you're coming from the opposite direction. I can see many saying this is a deterrent to trying the place. Also, when I saw the name, I thought that they had a gay kid in their 20s who told them to name it that to get back at them for trying to an arrange marriage to get him to turn "straight." Anyways, I came in during lunch on a Monday. There were 3-4 other patrons inside. I ordered beef pho because it's the one dish that can sink a Vietnamese restaurant if it's disliked by Vietnamese patrons or those with Vietnamese heritage. Let just say, I hope they stick with this recipe. It doesn't taste like commercialized pho broth and it comes the closest to something that my mom would make at home. The broth was clear and had a nice, rich, star anise/spice, beef flavor. I like the self-serve herb bar. That's 100% improvement over all the other Vietnamese restaurants in town. I don't have to ask for extra limes, and I can cut back on the herbs that I don't like as much. Overall, I hope it starts to pick up and they do well. The people inside were nice and food came out fast. This place did do a good impression with me.

Located in the long abandoned Wendy's building at Chouteau and Vivion; BB Banh Mi is a new Vietnamese restaurant in the Northland. it's been a welcome surprise to see so many Vietnamese places pop-up in the last decade around the area. I had the Pork Banh Mi and a Cafe Sua-da for lunch today - ok, but too many minor issues to make it into my top-tier. After having the best Banh Mi of my life a couple of weeks ago just a couple of miles west of here, I knew it would be hard to compete. Issues: I wasn't asked if this was to go, yet was served as a to-go order wasting several bags and making it more awkward to put my sandwich together. Everyone else was served on a tray. Did you not want me to dine in? My grilled pork was served cold. If I had ordered the lunch meats, I would understand, but not a grilled meat. You are given a pager that flashes when your order is ready it is also very loud. Very annoying to hear these things continuously going off while eating your lunch. Either turn off the sound or even better yet, deliver the food to the person - you aren't that busy and it's great customer service - especially when you are asking for tips at the point of purchase. Fox News on the TV. Really? I was forced to watch a live press conference where government officials were boasting about rounding up immigrants and placing them in concentration camps surrounded by alligators. I'm here to support minority owned businesses and your are broadcasting the people that are trying to destroy your community. Positives: The baguette and toppings were fresh. The iced coffee was strong. They have a 6 ingredient toppings bar for Pho orders. Since you are so close to my house, I will be back to try the Pho since I really like the idea of a self-serve bar for adding toppings and hopefully improve my rating after you fix some opening week issues.

The food is delicious , from the grilled banh mi sandwiches ti the phone. You can't go wrong. Opening in July of 2025. The service is attentive and prompt. Even the color scheme of the restaurant is nice and calming. Its a pleasant canary yellow. Each time I've stopped by it's been clean and relaxed. I was told that the weekends are busier. Do I prefer the week days where I am go and enjoy a nice quiet and relaxing sandwich. I hope this place stays around, it's nice to have a different type of food besides the regular greaay fast food

I was really craving Pho one night as a light meal pre surgery the next day. I decided to try the new BB Banh Mi open in the northland. I seriously think the broth was spoiled/soured. It didn't smell good driving home in the car and it only got worse once I opened it up at home. The soup was thick, slimy, and cold with an almost solidified section of grease on top. The meat was crusty around the edges and dry, also cold. I had to trash the entire thing as I was worried about food safety. Very disappointed. Others here have given this place a great review so hopefully just an off day for them.

We got Vietnamese iced coffees, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and pho. The pho I had was rich in flavor for the broth. You can tell it was boiled for awhile. The noodles were cooked perfectly! Not soggy at all and had a good bite to them. The veggies were nice and crisp too! Crab rangoons, I have no ill words for them. Just a standard rangoon that was well made. Not oily at all. Their peanut sauce that went with the spring rolls was thicker than the places that I am used to. I must say I actually prefer this locations peanut sauce over the ones I have had in my home state. 10/10! Will come again.

The staff was doing the best they could to keep up with the crowd, and everyone was friendly and courteous. The food was good overall. The pho had a good, flavorful broth, and the hủ tiếu mì khô was also well-seasoned with good flavor. They accidentally forgot our sweet potato dish, but with how busy they were, we decided not to wait any longer. The cà phê sữa đá was excellent--the balance of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk was just right. The bánh mì was decent as well. The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice crust, though I do wish it had a little more meat. Overall, it was a good lunch experience. I think I'd come back after the crowds settle down a bit so we can try more of the menu at a more relaxed pace.

The restaurant was very nice--tastefully decorated with authentic touches that felt intentional and refined. The large canvas artwork added character without overwhelming the space. It struck a perfect balance: elegant but comfortable. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were patient and accommodating, especially with our little one, which always makes a difference when dining out with family. We started with the sampler platter, which included fresh spring rolls, crispy spring rolls, and a variety of other traditional bites. Everything was prepared well--the fresh rolls were vibrant and clean tasting, while the crispy rolls had a satisfying crunch without being greasy. For entrées, my wife ordered the Vietnamese pork chop with the perfectly runny egg over broken rice. The pork was well-seasoned and cooked just right, and that egg brought everything together beautifully. I ordered the Bánh Mì and a bowl of pho. The pho had the perfect level of spice--balanced, aromatic, and comforting. The broth had depth, and you could tell it was crafted with care. The Bánh Mì was equally impressive; the baguette was toasted just right--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside--holding all the flavors together without overpowering them. What truly stands out is that Broken Rice delivers this level of quality without being overly expensive. It's a great value for authentic, well-executed Vietnamese cuisine. And most importantly--our niece enjoyed herself too, which says a lot. I would absolutely recommend Broken Rice to anyone looking for a satisfying, authentic dining experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere

We did enjoy the shrimp, spring rolls, but were slightly disappointed that the peanut sauce was very watery. The menu had a good variety, but most of the dishes involved pork, very few involved chicken. Tofu dishes were also an option. The chicken pad Thai was very tasty; rather than cooking the dish to a persons heat specification, they just provide extra chili powder on the plate if you wanted to make it spicier. The main reason for the low review would be the cleanliness of the restaurant. On the table were a variety of spices and sauces in various containers, but they didn't look like they had been cleaned or changed in several uses, so we did not use or investigate to know exactly what things were.
