First time eating at Pho Saigon Gem and my husband and I really enjoyed it. Staff is very friendly. We started with the shrimp spring rolls which were very tasty with the peanut sauce. For our entrees we shared the garlic noodles with shaken filet mignon and the charbroiled rice plate with pork and chicken. The garlic noodles and shaken Filet mignon was wonderfully delicious. The steak was tender and juicy and the noodles were amazing. While the charbroiled plate was tasty I was very surprised at the lack of proteins that was served especially for the price of $16. They really could have served a little more to provide more value. While the pork and chicken were tasty I give it a "2.5" when it comes to value for the price. I ordered lunch from here. Got the garlic noodles with shrimp and shrimp spring rolls. Spring rolls were good, just standard rolls, good peanut sauce, fresh veggies inside. The rolling could be a bit tighter because it kind of fell apart as I was eating. Garlic noodles didn't really taste like garlic noodles. I don't know if maybe they forgot to add garlic? It just tasted like normal chow mein stir fry noodles to me, not a lot of flavor either. I had to add some fish sauce (lol) for more flavor. They did give a good portion of big shrimps. Definitely a nice surprise in that area. I was just looking to get some pho and we saw this place on yelp. I got the pho, my wife got the Bun (noodle salad) with grilled pork, and my son got the grilled pork bahn mi. We also started with a appetizer combo so we could try a little of everything. This is the best Pho place I have tried south of Garden Grove/Westminster. The owner takes great care in making the broth fresh each day, using higher quality, more expensive bones and most importantly, takes the time to wash them before using them to make the broth. I've tried all of the different options and my go-to is the beef ball with some sliced rare steak added, because I'm a carnivore like that. The service is very fast and they check to make sure you're satisfied. I go for lunch and it always seems to have at least several tables going of other satisfied customers. The owner will be happy to take the time to talk about how they make the pho if you're interested! I always leave full and satisfied, and they are less expensive than other local options too. I cannot recommend it enough. They are on the delivery apps, but it's a much nicer (and less expensive!) experience to enjoy the restaurant. read more

Gem in the title is right, this place is a gem! I always order the same cooked and rare beef pho and it has consistently been delicious. Layers of flavor in the broth and tender meat. The toppings are always provided fresh each time. If you get it to go, they organize your bowl very well and separate the rare beef from the cooked. They provide all the fixings to go as well, making it just as good at home. My go to Pho! The service could improve a little, only based off the fact that they are running thin on staff. This restaurant serves bland Pho, when I asked them who the taste is so bad but the price is high, they said it needs to be modified to suit the taste of non-vietnamese. They lost me when they mentioned that since it means there is no authenticity in this, and the price is almost doubled every other Pho. Banh Mi here is $12 which is insane, I always get it for about $6. And the Banh Mi has no sauce, just rough bread with barely any meats. Size up to the large for one dollar extra and you have lunch the next day. Ordered the two item rice combination and the rice was fluffy, the vegetables were properly pickled, and the grilled meats had a nice char. Pho Saigon Gem (PSG) - Three months young Open 7 days/week Hours: 10am - 9pm PSG showed up on my yelp* radar a couple of months ago and had bookmarked it. Today, I thought I'd change it up and try Laguna Hill's newest Vietnamese restaurant with a 4 1/2 Star rating. I walked in just before 10:30am and was greeted by Evan; customer service was good. Evan told me that their most popular dish was the Garlic Noodles; either with Shaken Filet Mignon or BBQ Beef Short Ribs. I'm a fan of Bún Bò Huế; spicier the better. Unfortunately, PSG does not offer it. I was not too surprised, given the demographics but it would've been nice. Another favorite dish of mine, Bún Thịt Nướng(rice vermicelli noodles); great for warm SoCal kinda days... 'Like today. My order: A4) Appetizer - Shrimp & Pork Springs Rolls; Qty: 2 ($7) Okay; peanut sauce was good. C4) Garlic Noodle with BBQ Beef Short Ribs ($19) Tasty; small portions for the $$; could've had more of everything. 1) Cafe Sua Da - "Vietnamee" Ice Coffee ($5.50) "Me'h"; Pre-made ice coffee; a little to sweet for my taste; 70% of the cup was filled with ice. One note, the egg roll in your standard vermicelli noodle dish is traditionally cut into small 1/2" pieces so you can mix it into your bowl along with the other items. PSG left the egg roll whole as if I had ordered it as a side/appetizer. This was a first; found it odd. Did I miss the small print @ the bottom of the styrofoam container - "Assembly required." It's like ordering a pepperoni pizza & getting a cheese pizza with a pepperoni stick tossed in the box. - Do the other customers know that this is not the proper way it's plated? (Bad Mandalorian impression: This is NOT the way.") HA! Pho Saigon Gem is worth a try! Albeit a bit $$, I enjoyed most everything ordered but like most places, the McCafe Sua Da is very passable. Evan told me that everything is made to order... 'With the exception of the ice coffee. (Pre-made in 50 gallon drums) Just joking!... They're five gallon buckets. During my lunch, I noticed two orders were placed to-go. As I was leaving, two small groups entered the restaurant. It was a nice afternoon to eat outside on the front patio but too warm for me. I've tried most of the local Vietnamese restaurants. Signature Pho & Desserts was my regular go-to spot for the past few years but steadily declining. Signature Pho's prices are $$ than most but the portions & quality justified it; not so much on my last several orders.
