Cozy, no frills restaurant with a deeply flavorful pho broth! We ordered the chicken banh mi and rare beef pho. The pho broth was stellar - super flavorful with no excessive MSG flavor. Probably one of the best broths I've tried in the East Bay. The chicken banh mi, however, fell flat. The chicken didn't have the usual grilled, bbq flavor I'm used to. I will say the vegetables were nice and fresh and the bread was crispy yet chewy. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, though both are pretty limited. The service was quick and our interaction with the staff was short but efficient. Definitely will be coming back! read more

Pho Sam was my family's go to place for pho. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill with the change of ownership. I'm not sure what all the glowing reviews are from. The new owners are very friendly, but the food is lackluster. Pho is all about the soup base and theirs is lacking flavor. They kept the old pricing, but the portions have been cut in half. Delicious combination beef pho. I got the size small and finished it, which I normally can't do when I get pho from other places, but it was the perfect amount for me and I was hungry. I had a choice of going here or Pho Hoa a few blocks away. I tried this for the 1st time - it is homely and gave you a small business ambiance. I love the mom/pop shop feel. What a beautiful restaurant which has received a beautiful upgrade to the dining area with bright lights, beautiful photos and wall decor. It has such a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like family. We always have the PHO soup that has a very tasty broth. Also a favorite of mine which I recently discovered is their crepe which is absolutely the best I've had ever. The service was ok, I understand that Pho Sam has gone through a change of ownership, so they are still training. I have been a long time Pho Sam patron close to 13 years. I do miss Long and his family, Long was a character which made everyone feel like you were having a meal with family, he always knew my order and would always put a smile on your face. Definitely give the new owners a chance, it takes time to get everything dialed in. This is my new favorite Vietnamese noodle spot! The Bún Bò Huế has such a rich and authentic flavor -- spicy, fragrant, and full of depth, just like in Vietnam. Has a new menu, and is serving free Thai iced teas/sodas in honor of it. Got rare beef pho and a grilled beef banh mi to go, and they were just phenomenal. the sandwich was very favorable and so juicy it was dripping everywhere. The pho was perfect on a rainy day. this place has been here for a while, but heard about them changing ownership recently. The new owners are very friendly and really make sure you are satisfied. The service at this cute little spot was very friendly and accommodating. We had kids dining with us and they were very helpful with them splitting a large pho. Pho-Sam is our go-to Vietnamese spot in San Ramon. It's a family business that has been under new ownership since November 2025. The Pho, consisting of beef and chicken noodle soup with homemade broth, is great as are the appetizers and rice plates. The Ban Xeo (Sizzling Crepe) and Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches are also very good. I like the Thai Tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. The dining area is intimate and very clean. Truly one of the best pho bowls I've ever had. After reading all the yelp reviews I decided on the rare beef bowl (which I never get, always pho ga for me) and it absolutely lives up to hype. The broth is full of a complexity of flavors, and the delicately sliced beef has the perfect chew. I'd suggest opting for the XL bowl if you're only getting one meat, I definitely wanted 2x the amount of beef. But the price point is fantastic for how incredible the food is, so order away! My sister and I are extremely seasoned Vietnamese food connoisseurs of Vietnamese descent. We've been to over a dozen places in the tri-valley/greater SF bay area in the past month since getting here and can very easily say this is the best and most authentic, not even close. This is hands down the best pho spot in the area! The owners, Thu and Long, are incredibly welcoming and accommodating, which makes every visit feel special. Today, I went back with my family to try a much beloved restaurant of ours after discovering that it is now under new ownership. The first thing we noticed was that the restaurant has been newly renovated and now has a clean and welcoming appearance. The new owners were very friendly and accommodating and I am happy to say that they have well exceeded our expectations and quality of the previous owners! We ordered three bowls of special pho and were greeted with a generous portion of meat, noodles, and broth. The broth is very fragrant and savory and the meat is tender and fresh, all while keeping the same affordable prices from before. We even got free Thai milk tea and soft drinks for visiting them during their soft opening. They also offer a new and improved menu with a wider variety of items to try. As an extremely experienced Vietnamese individual, I can confidently say that the new Pho Sam restaurant is quite possibly the best Vietnamese restaurant you can find in the entire East Bay Area. New ownership.. last time I went with my two boys I ordered my usual xl stuff pho. When I got it, the portion. Was smaller than I normally would ordered. And the coconut drink I ordered they put it in the water cup not in a nice cup. The old owner would give us scissors for my two kids. And last thing I ordered egg with rice and they charge me $8. WTH!! They always charge me $4. It's too pricy.. never going back!!! read more

Pho Sam is the best pho in the area hands down. Long the owner and his parents have a great family feel. Served hot and fresh, the broth has a rich flavor and everytime I go in there the owner Long greets me with a big hello and some jokes. Small family run business in a random strip mall. There's not many tables inside, 6 in total and a couple tables outside. I ordered the medium #28 pho with well done meat and meatballs. The bowl was on the smaller end so if you're super hungry get the Large. the broth was decent for the area, the noodles felt a bit overcooked and not springy anymore, and the well done meat basically disintegrated into my broth and noodles lol there was legit nothing to pick up with my chopsticks. The meatballs were decent and they barely gave any veggies. Overall as a whole it wasn't bad but I think there could have been more meat and veggies for sure. They offer seasoning sauce which taste completely different and is a sauce my family and I arent too fond of so if you ever need actual soy sauce, we normally ask the staff for some Togo soy sauce packets. My wife had a #1 beef pho which seemed pretty good, the beef products were fresh. The staff turned around our order in a timely manner on a Sunday afternoon and there place wasn't completely full but there were other parties seated. It was a good experience. I'm usually only in that area when I hit the outlets so maybe I'll try them again the next time I hit the outlets.

This place is a true hole in the wall gem if you like authentic vietnamese food. Every order is made to order by the owner himself, and the same family recipe has been used for all the food from Vietnamese Village in San Bruno before it changed owners. If you truly love pho or vietnamese food there is a dish on the menu for you. Some of my favorites: A3. House Special Vietnamese Egg Rolls - These fried egg rolls are wrapped in the same rice paper used in Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls). The rice paper gives the egg rolls an extra crisp will make your mouth water. Be sure to wrap them in lettuce and dip them in fish sauce. 1. Combination Beef Noodle Soup - Also known Pho Xe Lua or the works. It has rare and well done beef, tripe, tendon, and beef balls. Combined with all the right compliments of bean sprouts, basil, lime juice, jalapeno, and sweet/spicy dipping sauce for the beef makes this my daily order at the restaurant. The soup is made daily for 6 hours like it should be, with the perfect color and taste. I have tasted other pho restaurants that have an orange/amber color with a terrible salty taste. If you are not a fan of tendon or tripe, I would recommend getting #4. It has beef balls and rare steak, both of which taste amazing with the sriracha/hoisin sauce. 29. BBQ Pork on Rice, Add Fried Egg If you are vietnamese or chinese, you most likely love pork. I am no different and this dish is satisfies my glutenous stomach every time. The pork is marinated and charbroiled vietnamese style, with the char on the edges. Its topped off with salted green onions that go great when mixed with the rice. The fried egg on top is the cherry on top if you're feeling extra hungry. I would not recommend it if you are not a big eater. The fish sauce and veggies on the side compliment the dish nicely. You should be stuffed by the time you clean your plate. 59. BBQ Pork and Egg Roll /w Tiny Rice Stick - Not many vietnamese restaurants offer Banh Hoi, or tiny rice stick. It is basically squares of mini-noodles that is topped off with shrimp flakes. The noodles make good substitutes for rice if you're looking for a change, and I prefer mines with extra shrimp flakes and salted oily onions. Of course you can top off the tiny rice stick with your favorite choice of meet, mine being the charbroiled pork. Sometimes, I like to treat myself to the grilled shrimp on sugar cane. It's not as filling (shrimp hardly is), but the shrimp is so delicious and tender that it is hard to resist. The cherry on top of this dish is the added egg roll. I'm a big fan of getting the grilled shrimp with the added egg roll over banh hoi to fill me up more. 85. House Special Crispy Chow Mein - This dish has been my favorite ever since I first had it in East San Jose. A large bed of egg noodles are fried to a golden crisp, and topped off with mixed veggies, your favorite meat, and a special sauce. The sauce is a chinese mustard that softens and flavors the noodles so that you can enjoy them in your mouth. If you like your noodles crispy like me, you only half dip your noodles so that you get that balance of crunch and chewiness with the flavor of the sauce. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is still a work in progress. I have talked to the owner and he has many plans to improve the place. The restaurant is indeed mom and pop owned, and you can even get a glance of their 5 year old son playing in the corner. The service is extremely friendly, even if their english is sometimes lacking. Oh and also, unlike many other asian restaurants, the bathroom is CLEAN!! On the way to the back you get a behind-the-scenes look on how the food is made as well. Pho Sam is still very new but I feel like this is an up and coming restaurant because the food is so good. If you really need a decent atmosphere, then take the food to go and enjoy it at home. I often do this after I have finished eating so that I have left overs for later, or if I'm in a hurry I'll grab a Banh Mi sandwich to go. Man, writing this review makes me want pho. read more

When I think of the difference between a good Vietnamese restaurant and a good steak house, only one thing comes to mind........cleanliness! This place is small, this place is old, sometimes it looks even dirty. But you know what! This place serves some really damn good pho so who cares if the roof is coming down on you or not! The Opening Sign did fall off when I was there on my last visit though, lmao wtfbbq! Their pho is very aromatic, but could use a little more meat. In their defense, the prices are so low, I think you get enough for the price! They offer Vietnamese Sandwiches but too bad its nothing compared to like the ones you can buy in Oakland C-Town! This is my first time visiting Sam Pho, and I was really impressed! I heard there's a new owner who's working hard to make the pho even better -- and it truly shows. The beef broth is rich and deeply flavorful -- you can tell it's made from real beef bones, and chicken bones not from powdered or "beef-flavored" mixes. The taste is natural, comforting, and full of that slow-simmered depth that true pho lovers appreciate. This place is bomb! The owner is FRIENDLY! Be prepared for a conversation. But it's not the fake conversations you will normally have with a restraunteeur, he's just genuinely a nice guy. As for the Pho, I am a recent convert to Vietnamese food. It is beautiful. It's light, yet filling. You don't feel laden down after a meal. I love it. I try and go here once a week if I can. And I don't know what it is they put in the Vietnamese iced coffee......but it has to be illegal in some state. Haha, one cup and you are redlined for hours. I wish I could give them 5 stars for their pho ga because their chicken broth is the best I've tasted in the East Bay. It's deep-tasting and extremely flavorful. Their chicken pieces are good also. But why no other vegetables? Yes, they have the usual toppings (bean sprouts, hot peppers, etc.) but no broccoli, green onions, cabbage, celery, etc. And putting roasted garlic or roasted onion in it would really make it a 5-star special. So while I love the broth and service, and it comes tantalizingly close to being on par with some of the ones I have had in San Jose or the City, I am afraid I can 'only' give it 4 stars. read more

My family and I went to Pho Sam for dinner few days ago for the first time. We ordered Curry Chicken with bread, beef noodle soup and BBQ shrimp rice noodle. I am on low sodium diet, so I asked if I could have shrimps sauted/ BBQ with no sauce. The chef then brought (in person) two different shrimps to show me and let me picked the one I preferred. For years we've been dealing with the owners crap attitude and conplete lack of any sort of personality. Tonight he was just a conplete a$$hole. Rude to both myself amd the previous customers. I always come in and state the name on the order, no problem but tonight I needed to know WHAT the order was, which I didn't "Well I can't help you then if you don't kbow what was ordered" Had to call amd find out what was ordered before I could pick it up. Normally I don't write review for pho places, since I can't tell the biggest difference between them except for the broth, which is probably the only difference. Service here was soso. We were pretty much the only table here and they didn't seem attentive. Guess its not their fault since it was at an odd hour. Pho itself was delicious, but there was a big strand of hair in the bowl and it made the meal unappetizing, but the smell of the broth was so good that I could not resist. Price is good. They have Japanese beer, sake and sake whiskey that was amazing to try and the vegan Fuji roll... yummmm! I can't even eat raw anywhere else now!
