I consider myself a Pho Enthusiast and this review is for my first time as a customer: 1. Ambiance - New place so everything is new and shiny, Comfortable seats, tables even. with no shaking, lighting good. Parking on street. Quiet generally except for ladies behind counter. One TV screen with no sound/subtitles and as usual with most places is on the Sports Channel. Ever heard of subtitles and News? Why is everything male oriented? Women outnumber men these days!!! 2. Service - spotty but somewhat quick. I walked in and was ignored by owner/chef, hostesses. NEGATIVE POINTS! Main hostess/server greeted me with a scowl that continued throughout. NEGATIVE POINT! Went up to cashier station and was told to sit at small table for two only. The door was open. I used the washroom - clean and new, and no alleyway smells. Upon return I saw menu and one flavorless yellow "green tea." Main server/hostess came up with NO smile and no matter how much smiling I did, she did not flinch until she got a tip from another table who had forgotten to tip her and came back. The elderly co-server was pleasant but used hands to take out bean sprouts/basil etc. and had just cleared a table. YUCK! I asked to move bc the door was wide open and explained I had a cold and it was drafy, thus I moved to 4 person table. They had 5 empty of the four-person tables, and 3 empty of the two-person tables. She noted that I would have to move again if 4 people arrived! NEGATIVE POINT! REALLY DISTASTEFUL SO I WON"T BE BACK. She talked to me like I was a dog. 3, I ordered a LARGE STEAK AND BRISKET PHO. I was given a tiny (palm sized) amount of bean sprouts (fresh) with 3 slices of jalepeno, 1 quarter lime halved (what is this trend? -give me 1 whole quarter!!) and 1 small sprig of basil. These are all cheap ingredients except for basil but if you think how little their overhead for food is (noodle, water, green onion, cilantro (none), paper thin meat) it should have been more plenty. I asked for additional one - got same thing but even smaller. They had hot sauce, chili oil and brown sauce as usual. Pho was VERY salty but NOT OILY and I don't beileve there was any MSG (no headache, flushing, itchiness) like most other places, but I could be wrong - tasted of beef bouillon..no complex flavors, no spices, no nothing. It was a richer color ...but at least it had some taste to it. Everything in the bowl was ok, except as usual they do not brign the meat you order - its either balls, steak or tripe, fatty brisket. There is no flank, no brisket, etc. They have that on menu like all other places but it doesn't exist when they serve it bc its all steak or brisket. The amount of ingredients were good, however I could have used a bit more meat and noodles as with other places. I am only full bc I drank much of the broth for my cold. Guy next to me asked for extra noodles. 4. No one as usual with these places asked if all ok. No tea topped off but asked at the very end which was too late bc the jalapeno seed was burnign and I had no tea to drink. No water. They do not ask if you want anything else. You pay up front - although I waited extra 10-12 minutes and no one came. Bil: $8.95 Pho large. $7.95 for small. These should really be cheaper bc of the ingredients but rent is high! Decent pho but muuuuch pricier than similar offerings in the area. Also felt the portions were smaller than other pho spots. Petit Saigon on Hastings is still my go to. And I don't know why the server was so confused when I asked for a pho on the menu with everything I wanted but just leave out the tendon. Will get my fix from V Nam instead even if it does leave me crushing water for a few hours because it's cheaper and bigger. read more

Great place to sit and have a warm bowl when it's cold out. The small size pho was plenty big. Many sauces to choose from. The spicy sauce lived up to its name. Good customer service. Seating is limited, 6 two person tables. But great food, good service, and good prices. Would recommend. read more

This is simply my go to pho place. I'm going to have trouble finding another one once I move, but my family often has a craving for pho. The five stars I'm giving this place is most importantly because of the lightness and naturalness of the pho. I have lived in three different cities and eaten at probably hundreds of pho places but nothing compares to here. Much like bad ramen, a low quality pho makes u feel sick and weighed down because of the oil and msg. This is the only place I have been to ever that hasn't given me that terrible feeling and for that alone it deserves five stars, but that's not all. Although the staff may seem scary at first, they're actually very kind, and considerate, especially to regulars. I once asked the waitress about an allergy of mine and not only did she assure me there were no peanuts in my dish but she entered the kitchen and made sure there was no cross contamination. Now just like any place it does have a flaws. One of these is the decor and the vibe it creates. The furniture is very sparkly and purple and overall has several different styles that don't really fit. The flavour of the the pho (as opposed to the feel which I discussed) is very standard with possibly a little more tangy broth than usual, which I don't mind. I'm sure there is better pho in town but this is surely one of the best and it's current three and a half star rating is absurd. After seeing this place quite full for a few times, I decided to try... The place is new and comfortable, and looks pretty clean, which is positive and not usual for pho places. Watch if it's raining, floor is slippery, not the best for a rainy city. The servers were almost rude, ignoring me when I came in, and their attitude was very far of what anyone can call it friendly. Asked my server if it was possible to add tripe to my pho, she said it was coming with tripe already (not shown on the menu) and of course came without it. Lack of attention or misunderstanding, but anyway she was not very into a good customer service. The soup itself was on the average, nothing special. Not as much meat as other places, but fair enough for the price. The noodles were all in a ball, I had bad times working on that. I can say I won't repeat. The food is decent, but the lady who run the place is very rude. Worst customer service from her, but her employee are very friendly. She yell at her employee in front of the customer with no respect. I walked in there today a lone for dinner. There was no more tables left that only had two seats for two people so I took the one for four people. She was like you can sit here but you have to share the table... there was only five people in the restaurant. She had a very rude tone. The grilled pork vermicelli dish is what I go for and I like it here. This place has my desirable hole-in-the-wall quality but with clean, up to date ambience. The one two-star rating I see can be thrown away after reviewing the poster's other reviews. We found nice welcoming staff who I understand are very new to Canada. It's good, but there's better - but unfortunately the North Shore does not have as many options as I would like. I wouldn't say I'll never go back, it is certainly convenient to where I live if I am craving Pho, but I think most times I would drive over to Kingsway area for more authentic Vietnamese. read more

We came here because the two restaurants we planned to dine at were busy. First time I came here and I was hoping for good authentic Vietnamese food. The owners spoke Vietnamese and the menu had Vietnamese writing so I figured it was good place to eat. I ordered Bun Bo Hue and my coworker ordered Pho #13 and we also ordered Vietnamese coffee. What can I say except shame on them for not making proper Bun Bo Hue. This is not proper way of making it. I know about Vietnamese food because I'm Vietnamese. They use the wrong meat for Bun Bo Hue. It is just so wrong and my face couldn't even hide my disappointment. Oh God, the soup base is nothing remotely close to Bun Bo Hue flavour. I don't know what kind of crap that is but it is not bun bo hue. My coworker also didn't like his Pho either. The only good thing there was the Vietnamese coffee which was correct way of making it. Went there for the first time. Waitress was terribly rude. Asked her a simple question about portion sizes and she could have just answered politely but instead was brisque and rude. Her poor attitude ruined the entire visit for me. Also, overpriced for the portions given. Gave two stars instead of one as the taste of the food was decent. read more

I got two stars for them having a good food, they have one of the best pho, maybe because of the people behind the kitchen. They had a good cook. One thing I hate about this restaurant is the service. The lady serving is very rude and only chooses the customer she will treat well. Very bad service. I was really disapointed at this restaurant. I visited there with my husband and our little one. Our little one was sleeping in the stroller so that we tried to enter the restaurant with stroller, but right after we opened the door, one of the waitresses just shouted "NO NO NO NO!" and waved her hands as if she was saying "get out here!". This made us surprised at first and really upset a second later. We just left there and decided to never come back there. I don't know why she said No, but it was so rude. read more

I've been here a couple times and it's a pretty good "Pho Spot" (no pun intended). New spot on Lower Lonsdale open until 12am is unheard of for a family run restaurant, not only in North Van but just in general. The owner is super friendly and provides great service. I will go here again and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try Vietnamese food, there are a variety of mainstream dishes (rice and vermicelli dishes) that are suitable for all taste pallets. Nothing super authentic, like the Vietnamese Crepes (my fav), but maybe one this can be introduced on the menu?:) My boyfriend had a vermicelli bowl, which looked delicious with a generous amount of meat and fresh veggies. I had the pho both times and there was tons of meat! The broth was clear (not fatty) and not too sweet (as I find some Vietnamese restaurants tend to make their broths too sweet). Pho Spot has become my "go to" pho eatery. Starting with the food quality. I am not an expert in Vietnamese food and the only thing I ever order is the pho soup. I will say that the #2 that I have adopted as my favourite always comes delicious and nearly always I will finish every drop of broth as well, something I can't always do in other places due to the fact that they are loaded with salt. The thinly sliced beef is always good quality and melts in your mouth. The sprouts and basil garnish are always really fresh and if you're like me you won't have a problem getting a few extra sprouts for your soup. The prices of their pho are also the most reasonable I have encountered on the north shore. My only problem is that I am now addicted and find myself in this place 3 times per week sometimes. I feel good recommending Pho Spot to anyone. read more

Authentic pho on the North Shore, a perfect place to visit after a long hike, great quick fresh and consistent food. I am a fan!!
