Surprisingly great pho in Galveston! I knew right away from the old Vietnamese asian interior of the restaurant that I was about to eat some good pho. The service was quick, you could easily tell it's family owned. I usually get the Brisket Pho at all places and I could say that the brisket here is tender and fatty! I have had bad brisket from pho places in Houston so this is surprising to say. The broth was hearty, warm, and meaty you can tell how long it has been cooking. I also got another dish, shaking beef but I would not recommend it at all as it was chewy and the rice was not broken like usual. The Pho is definitely the star and I would stick to that. Overall, 7.5/10.

On our way out of Galveston we decided to try a Pho place. The kiddos were excited. When we asked the waiter what he'd recommend he said "Depends on what you want to eat." We chuckled... but then realized he wasn't going to give us any inside scoop... so we went with our gut. One kiddo got the Banh Mi and enjoyed it. The other got the pork vermicelli bowl and found it good... albeit not very flavorful. My wife and I split egg rolls and a beef vermicelli and had about the same experience. We either didn't order the right thing for this restaurant or... they're just OK. I'm glad we tried it, and if I was a local I'd probably visit it every few months... but we likely won't be back.

Best traditional Vietnamese food in Galveston hands down! No frills, quick service. Always a great stop on the way home for take out or a casual lunch with friends. Prices are very reasonable and food is flavorful. Only wish the hours were open longer as I'm always craving pho tai when they happen to be closed.

Best vietnamese restaurant on the island! There's several viet restaurants, but this one never disappoints. I've been for lunch and dinner, and I particularly like their banh mis and vermicelli bowls. You order at the register and they will bring the food to your table. At the end, you pay at the register. The vermicelli bowl I ordered was huge! Generous portions of meat, veggies, noodles, and peanuts. Sauces are on the table along with utensils. Lots of indoor seating. Very casual and has a home like feel. Very quiet and lots of natural light with large windows. Parking can be hard if it gets busy, but there is a small lot in the back, as well as free side street parking. Employees are nice too!

The best Vietnamese food on the island! Very hole-in-the-wall vibe with great, affordable food to match.

Local family owned spot for some of my favorite pho in town. Did the vermicelli bowl this time with all the proteins. Only downside is one shrimp. I think they used to put 3 on them, but it's been awhile. Must add the fish sauce that comes with it. You're missing out if your don't mix it in. Would probably do the order that has two proteins next time so you get a better portion of each.

A Little blue restaurant on Broadway, one of our main roads in Galveston, that packs a punch. I went on a mother daughter date at my daughters suggestion. We ordered Thai tea with boba and it was strong and delicious. Their boba is good and creamy. We both ordered the vermicelli with shrimp and chicken which is a huge portion and every is cooked to perfection. I ordered a pork banh mi sandwich which I have never had before and oh my goshhhh it was so good. The sub bread is crunchy on the outside but chewy and soft on the inside. The pork is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Crunchy greens, carrots, cucumber, and jalapeños make for the best sandwich.

This place never disappoints! Every dish we have is wonderful. Combo fried rice is the best on the island. Their sandwiches are awesome. Can't go wrong here.

It is a small shop with good food but questionable service. The problem was a communication barrier I think. The food was good enough.

I've given Pho 20 the Yelp treatment before, and since it's been almost six years since my last visit, I felt my four-star review needs an update following our nice meal here. We decided to keep it simple with just Vietnamese egg rolls and the house special fried rice. The egg rolls were a great start while the delicious fried rice, which I haven't had before, met my expectations. Riddled with a solid amount of meat and shrimp, the fried rice was basically a meal itself. An accompanying entrée wasn't required. All in all, not bad for $26. Though the restaurant is on the usually busy Broadway not too far from The Strand, not too many people were here except for us two, an elderly man, and a group of four women. It provided a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

The Moo Goo Gai Pan even has bamboo chutes! All the waiters a waitresses are really nice, never getting annoyed by the complications of your orders. They even let my very picky brother change out the sweet and sour chicken for soup, and the fried rice for white rice, never even a single frown or glare. Also, everything there looks so authentic! When you walk in the door, there are two happy Buddha statues; one small and gold sitting on a table, and one large on the way to the seating area. This isn't Houston not even Chinatown, but it's bringing Poke Japanese food to the area. They do a pretty darn good job at it too. Upon walking in, I was surprised by how bright, inviting, and clean the restaurant was. Two big giant menus; one displaying savory and another sweet. The staff were very nice and provided good recommendations. I ordered the frozen matcha smoothie with oat milk, donburi with tofu and pickled vegetables. The taste of the food was fresh, I wasn't a big fan of the texture of the tofu. That threw me for a loop. They used sushi rice for the base and the broccoli was okay, a bit bland for my liking. Their special sauce was very tasty. Need to bottle that up and sell it! The pickled veggies were crisp and with well with the rice. Slightly sweet then acidic. The matcha freeze was indeed creamy from the oat milk. They have vegan milk options: oat and almond. The matcha was sweet, but nothing over the top. Matcha boba was chewy and unheard of. Clean restroom and plenty of seating areas outside the restrooms. On the television, they play Netflix cooking shows which is nice if you're into that like me. Great choice!!

There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I felt Basil House deserves a go. Essentially a hole in the wall, it's located along Palmer Highway not too far from where it meets 146. The building may look small, but the interior begs to differ somewhat. This is the third time I use "Vietnamese," but what's so unique about this eatery is that it also offers Thai dishes. I decided to do both for my first visit; I ordered a Vietnamese grilled pork rice plate and Thai chicken skewers. My orders arrived at my table at the same time, which I thought was nice. Regarding the skewers, the chicken was pretty sizable. It was so tender that it came off the stick after a bite or two. I must admit it was dry, but still a nice way to start a meal. As for the main star of the show, the rice plate, I have nothing but immense love for it. The kitchen staff wasn't stingy with the amount of meat they placed on the plate. Tender just like the chicken, the grilled pork carried a sweet taste that got even better when dipped in the accompanying fish sauce. Oh, I forgot to mention the skewers and the rice plate had cucumbers, which raised the tangy factor. I capped everything off with fried banana and vanilla ice cream. A man who I assumed was the owner of the place acted as my server. He did an outstanding job, refilling my drink and giving me extra napkins. By my estimate, Basil House is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house. No need to travel at least ten miles if I want my fill in ice plates, spring rolls, or even pho.
