They are very consistent. We have had their egg rolls, pho, vermicelli bowls and pork banh mi. All are very good. If I had one suggestion it would be to leave the amount of veggies they put in the banh mi but slice them a little thinner so that it is easier to eat and you are not having to rearrange everything in the sandwich to get a good bite. Food is better than decent (hence the extra star), but service was awful, and what appeared to be one of the owners (the younger one) was extremely rude. Reading through the rest of the reviews, it seems like my party and I were not the only ones who have had that experience, so don't let the high overall rating fool you. I know a lot of places have been suffering since the pandemic, but this was something much different. The whole time, she was mean mugging all the customers of color while smiling and being nice to the white customers. it's the best pho in town hands down. as a vietnamese person who was raised and grown with the vietnamese culture and ate vietnamese food everyday at home and been to vietnam every summer, this is the closest thing to authentic when it comes to pho, the pho here great! the banh mi is great too, but it's not as authentic due to the different bread, types of meat, and the lack of pate, but it's still delicious though. i still love it. the general tsao and sesame chicken is great as well. the spring rolls, fried shrimp rolls, edamame are all great appetizers. their thai tea is very authentic and well done. honestly, i've been here multiple times already and i've always loved it. it reminds me of home. totally recommend their pho! pho tai bo vien is my favorite, but for all my non-vietnamese friends, the chicken pho is great too for first timers as well as the vegan pho. read more

The people in the place seemed like they did not want to do their job. Having outrageous attitude problem and putting that on to their customers. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Why did they leave our town?! We miss them. They were the original owners and chefs at our local spot and one day we made an order, took it home and when we bit into it... yikes! We stumbled upon them visiting San Marcos and yes! I'm so glad we did. Just from the smell when we walked into the restaurant we knew it was gonna be good. When we got our orders we knew... this place was LEGIT! Whenever we're craving Vietnamese food we do our hardest to make it out. It is worth the drive for us. The only downside is parking because it is located in (I believe) downtown San Marcos near the college area. I'm sorry I didn't get photos of this, but it was excellent. We're Pho professionals, and this was as good as I've had. They didn't list tripe on the menu, but when we asked for some in the soup, they did have it. I feel like it's always a good sign when an ethnic restaurant is full with customers of that ethnicity (or ethnically adjacent), and this one fit that bill. I highly recommend the pho (it's what all three of us got). One bowl is big enough for two humans if you've never been out for pho before. The spring rolls were good too! read more

I have tried dozens of pho places throughout Houston and in Austin Area, and here is my review. Walked in when it wasn't busy. Got attended fast which was great. I ordered their spring rolls and combination pho soup. Their spring rolls were good and nicely sized. I received my pho soup and the broth was not bad but it was definitely lacking in flavor which was a bit disappointing. Noodles were good and the brisket was phenomenal. The tripe was very fatty, I did not enjoy it, I would even go as far as to deem it inedible as it was literally a piece of lard. Overall I give the soup a 6.5/10. I It's worth a visit if you're looking for something quick, but if you're looking for quality and delicious pho near San Marcos then I recommend driving an extra 15 minutes to visit Pho Na in new braunfels. read more

I've always enjoyed coming here for some pho, but this last time I went has started to really make me dislike this restaurant. It's become almost a funny inside joke that we know to expect that one lady to be rude for no reason, but it's frankly becoming really annoying. They always bring the check even if your whole table is obviously still eating, and rush you when trying to put orders in. I don't appreciate receiving a check when I'm not even done with my food or drink, I could order more but it's like they just want you to pay and get it over with and leave. This last time we asked to split a check and the lady again was extremely rude for no reason, and that is just not how you run a business within customer service. It's becoming embarrassing to see how she gets away with it, and makes so many people uncomfortable as you can tell from other reviews. If you don't want your customers to enjoy their experience in your restaurant, why do you even work there or insist on serving. There are plenty of other authentic and delicious restaurants in San Marcos that actually have good service so I am just going to stop wasting my time at pho Tran. The food is fine, but not worth sitting there and being disrespected by the staff. That lady has crossed too many lines and she needs to figure herself out. read more

I'm not from San Marcos. In area for the day. First, I was impressed by that area of town. Reminded me of what Austin started out as 20 years back. Pleasantly surprised by this Pho restaurant. Serving size and price were on par with most Pho joints, but the flavors were on point. Just well made. I can tell when care goes into it, and they care. We had Tripe Pho with a dry vermicelli grilled pork with spring rolls. The pork rub was exceptional. Spring rolls done right. The Pho broth (which is 98% of the quality of Pho), wasn't super layered, but it was clean. Light hints of cinnamon. My guess is they used concentrated beef bone powder v real bones for base. However, this isn't a big city. My only issue was a small amount of Thai cilantro and sprouts for the Pho, but not crazy small. read more

A million times, yes! This is exactly what downtown sm needed. Authentic and fairly priced Vietnamese food (which both are hard to come by in the area). Menu was just right, including all the staples you'd find at a normal pho joint. I got the Bun Thit Nuong and my friend got the vegetable pho. Both were on point. Extremely friendly service and what a nice setup. We were traveling from out of town and were craving pho. We got the beef pho which was flavorful. The seafood pho, on the other hand, was very bland. It lacked the traditional pork broth, sliced char siew pork, fish balls, and even quail egg. The bean sprouts were also browned and not fresh. The spring rolls were definitely worth getting. Please also consider providing chili paste on the table and not just Sriracha. Overall, good place to eat and perhaps they will improve even more in time since they are pretty new. Exceptional! The passion lies in the flavor here at this new gem right on the square! I've grown up in the restaurant industry and have always found myself in Vietnamese restaurants when craving comfort in a meal. I've tried several Vietnamese restaurants in my time and boy does the Pho here remind me of the first time I ever had it as a little girl! I added nothing to my bowl of combination Pho that's how perfect it was. I put hoisin and siracha sauce in a dip dish to the side and very much enjoyed dipping the very tasty cuts of beef in the sauce. The spring rolls were exceptional! The Thai tea was the perfect way to end my meal. Who knew that a little place in San Marcos would top all the pho places I've checked out recently in the Austin area.
