Came here during a power outage in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I have an electric stove at home and couldn't prep my food. Luckily, the folks at Pho Vi Hao were in full force and had their electricity still. Oh man, they were busy left and right with to go orders and in person dining! I'm glad they were busy so they got more business but I felt really bad because they definitely did not have enough waiters/waitresses to meet the demand. 1000% kudos to the staff for being so positive and friendly throughout the whole ordeal. They for sure put a smile on my face. I ordered the large Pho Dac Biet thinking I'd have some leftovers (that's usually the case for me back home). However, I must have been extremely hungry because I DOWNED that meal. It was incredibly delicious, hot, and fresh. Highly recommend this meal if you like different types of meats in your pho. A hearty bowl of pho - flavorful broth, smooth chewy rice noodles, delicious beef, huge portion, good price! We got the large meat combo pho (P-14 Phở Chín Nạm Gầu Gân Sách Bò Viên), the small vegetarian pho, and two vegetarian fresh spring rolls. On DoorDash, Pho Vi Hoa is ~15% cheaper than several other places. My large beef combo pho was $16, the veggie pho was $13, and the two spring rolls were $5 total. In addition to the more reasonable price, the food quality was better too. Although they didn't offer my favorite flat rice noodles, their regular noodles were smooth and chewy, without any starchy aftertaste. I got lots of high quality beef cuts of perfect percentage of fat in my bowl. The broth was so flavorful that I skipped the various sauce packets entirely. Considering how offended my friend was with my lack of pho experience, we decided to take a trip to Pho Vi Hoa for my very first Pho tasting. The restaurant is casual with dark features. My first impression was that they probably cared more about their food than the appearance. We were seated promptly and helped soon after. We ordered veggie eggrolls that came with a delicious vinegar sauce. Following, my friend ordered the smaller portion (still quite a decent serving) of Pho Tai for me and it came out much quicker than I expected it to. With my friend's guidance, I added choice veggies and spices to find the balance of sweet-spicy, noodley, brothy perfection. I was also surprised at the generous amount of meat given. Food: We got the pork vermicelli and the pork chop rice plate and the food kind of looks like it came from a cafeteria. It doesn't really look too appetizing and is bland colored. The taste was alright, but our pork chop was overly cooked and not savory. The noodles kept breaking too. Service: We had a bit of trouble communicating with the waiters here but it was easy to pay at the front. Ambiance: Casual place but has fancy lights and signs. This is was one of my go-to places for Vietnamese in Mt. View/Los Altos way back in the late 90s. I had lunch there recently because I was in the area. I had the grilled pork & egg rolls combo (my favorite at the time) and it was decent. Everything was fresh and delicious, although I believe it wasn't quite as good as I remembered it. It could be that there are so many other good choices for Vietnamese that I am comparing them to their competition. It's still a good spot and I won't take them of my list. However, I'll probably look for other options in the area. Service was still good and I like the fact the tables are turned over quickly. read more

This review is waayy long due because I frequent this place every two weeks or so and my first visit was 2 years ago. Love this place! They have fresh food and the peanut sauce that comes with their veggie spring rolls are AMAZING. I don't know how they make it, but every other pho restaurant I've been to don't make it the same way - it's either too hoisin-flavor like, or just too watery. But this place actually makes legit peanut sauce. I always get their pho tai and it's really good, their broth is flavorful, and they give you a LOT of meat! I get the small and I still can't finish my bowl. I guess the only downside of this place is the price, although everything in the Bay especially around Palo Alto is expensive. 13.50 for a small pho and 14.50 for a large isn't too bad though. Parking is plentiful in the shared plaza, and there is Teaspoon right next door so you can get some refreshing drinks after your bowl of pho. read more

Not much of a greeting when we came in and menus were slapped down on the table and she walked away I ordered the deep fried egg rolls and they were on the border of being burnt. Sad to say but the Jack in the Box egg rolls are much better. My wife had the spring rolls and they looked good. My marinated shrimp rice plate was disappointing as the shrimp was over cooked and tough. My wife's pork chop had 2 of them and they were really thin and overcooked but she said the flavor was good. I remember my husband chose the P6 for me because he knows I don't eat tripe and tendons, but being a non avid pho eater during that time, I was still skeptical of the flank and brisket (I was worried thinking there would be a gamey taste and beefy smell). This is the second worst pho restaurant in Bay Area (the worst is Pho Ha Noi) by far among over 15+ Vietnamese pho restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. Last week we order pho on Uber Eats for delivery. After an hour and half no food ever arrived from only 5 miles away in the mid of afternoon, literally the slowest hour and not with heavy traffic yet. I called, and the server told me that it's not her problem why the food didn't arrive. She refused to cancel the order or refund. Today, we tried them again in person. The server was worse than fast food restaurant workers in term of attitude and service. When I asked about different cuts of beef among their pho selections, she rudely told me to just tell her an item number unpleasantly, worse than how a robot would've performed.. She then walked away but stared at us unpleasantly, brought the dish but never came to check with us. After we finished our food and waited for 5 minutes, no server came to give us our bill. I walked up to the register for paying, but the staff were talking with each other and didn't care for another 5 minutes till the server came by to charge my card. The touchscreen didn't work well so my intended customized tip didn't go through but instead I was charged by their automatic tips. The same server didn't want to help and just said she couldn't fix it, until either the manager or owner came by and refunded me the difference between what I intended to pay and the automatic tips they charged me. The food was overall ok, not spectacular comparing to other pho restaurants throughout Bay Area, though with this kind of service attitude, worse than a robot or having no service at all, they should just make themselves a fast food restaurant instead of charging customers automatic tips. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I feel so disrespected and in dismay. It started when I was ordering my food, the waiter was politely being rude. I had wanted to start with an appetizer, nothing crazy just some vegetarian egg rolls. The waiter ( older lady, short, copper hair) proceeds to say, "not pork" , "not chicken", "not shrimp, and "not spring rolls". When I politely answered each time and said "no the veggie deep fried egg rolls please." Second as we are eating our food. I realized its been a while, main entree is out and we still yet to receive the egg rolls. I politely go and ask the same older waiter if my egg rolls were forgotten. She answered politely rudely ( trying to be funny), " you have to wait little more time and continues to say that. Puts her hands out like you would do a kid and does a gesture ( I will post to better understand), laughs as I just walk away. Then here comes the worst part. As my husband and I are eating our food, same waiter and two other employees are constantly looking at us and laughing. My husband looked over a couple times, and so did I. As some eggrolls come out, older waiter again yells out, " give the egg rolls to table #44 (our table) since they couldn't wait for table #41 to get theirs first. She said it so loud that other guest could hear." That so uncalled for. As I am eating my soup I hear all there employees laughing when the eggrolls were delivered. And the older waiter keeps saying something and they keep laughing even more. I look over and they laugh even more after that . At the point mid eating , I walk up and let her know she should be ashamed of herself for laughing at us with everyone else. Not only that, but I never was once rude to here. I gave back the eggrolls that we never touched & said you can also give these to whoever was first. She laughs again at me and says" don't worry, i'll give them for free." That is not what we wanted. We go ahead leave our unfinished food and pay. We even paid !!!! She keeps laughing and saying " sorry honey." Shame on her, shame on the other employees laughing at us and shame on this business. I have never experienced so much humility when all I wanted was to enjoy comfort food with my husband. read more

This is my go to place for pho and occasionally I try a new dish. I usually order a vegetarian pho and one fried veggie spring roll to-go. I'm not a vegetarian, just don't eat pork. But when eating Asian food in a restaurant it's easier for me to just order vegetarian than to constantly ask if there's pork in that. Anyways, they pack one container of broth, one container of the noodles, topped with the steamed vegetables (could add more), basil, bean sprouts, a slice of lime and some jalapenos in a plastic bag. The egg roll comes with some sweet red sauce that's very tasty. Last time I tried their vegetarian chow mein and now that will be my go-to dish! It was yummy. If you don't, they will assume you want the Large versions and bring it to you. And the Large go for close to $15 per bowl. Went here a few weeks ago on a rainy day because we were craving something light and soupy. They have a decent section for vegetarians. We decided on the veggie pho and were excited to try it. However, the broth was a let down. It was quite salty and not flavorful. Tasted like a bullion with MSG. We love pho and have had pho at tons of restaurants, but didn't quite enjoy the one here thanks to the saltiness and lack of flavor. Only saving grace was the amount of vegetables and tofu. Veggie pho came with rice noodles and lots tofu(yay), carrots, bakchoy, napa cabbage and the regular fixings. Quick service, but dirty interiors. There was food and used napkin pieces etc fallen on the floor. Don't expect much with the ambiance either.
