This restaurant is worth the detour if you are eating in Tampa. The Vietnamese pancake, Ban Xeo, is so yummy, it's a really crispy hot tasty shell filled with seafood meat and veggies. Whenever I dine here, I am always reminded of that indie movie "Like Water for Chocolate". If you've never seen it, it's a food lover's must. In a recap, the heroine pours all her energy into her love of cooking and infuses it with her emotions: lust, sadness, etc., and those who eat her food also take on those same emotions. When I'm eating food at this restaurant, I taste infusions of apathy, depression, despondency, despair, and a motley of other emotions that should make anyone worry about the emotional health of the cook. I try and try to like their food because I want Vietnamese food to do well in the burbs where we need exposure to different cultures, where food is usually the first intro to it. Unfortunately I can't recommend this over just buying some Vifon branded instant Pho noodles or Nongshim Ramen noodles from the Asian market M and D oriental store up on Falkenburg. Husband decided to take me here for lunch today, because it was very close to Astro skating place where our girls were hanging out. We order fresh rolls, chicken fried rice which was very bland and pho with tendon, tripe and rare steak.. which was just okay. The one star came from my husband because our fresh spring rolls has thick black hair on it. When we told the owner about it... his reply was oh none of us has that kind of hair .. (thick black hair) really?!??!? My husband an I both gave light brown hair. He took our fresh rolls away and not once did he ask if we wanted a replacement or get a new one. This was disappointing. I went here during lunch today and I regret it. Although it tasted fine (not great but not the worst), the restaurant is obviously struggling. The restaurant was filthy. Empty tables with food on them. The counter was covered with trash. Behind counter I could see dirty dishes overflowing in a sink. Windex bottle left at a table (which is not a sanitizer as required by health code). It was a nice day out but for some reason the AC was not on on. It was hotter in the restaurant than outside. The whole restaurant was just kind of stagnant. The water pitcher had black (mold) marks at the bottom. Service was slow but there was only one server, so it's not her fault. I would give it one star but I honestly don't mind going places that are a bit of a hole (this was beyond that) and I felt bad for the girl working today. I grew up with Vietnamese food. I have a head cold and when I feel it coming I ALWAYS get Pho. I ordered a boba smoothie with extra boba. I'm sick and it feels good on my throat. I'd gladly pay for it.... waiting 45 minutes for to go soup requested having drink first for throat. Was told to wait for food. And I tipped on to go!! Really?? I don't get it. No extra boba. I'm so lucky to live close to this pho restaurant. Whenever we can't decide where we want to go, this is our go to default because we know that the food will always be excellent. We usually start with the feied potstickers, even though we know that the pho is more than enough food for dinner. They are just too good to pass up. We have had the steak pho and the oxtail pho. Both delicious. I don't like well cooked meat and so I order my slices of meat on the side rather than in the soup. That way I can add it to the soup when im ready to eat it and csn let the soup cook it tp rare. The staff never complains about doing this for me and the steak slices are served on a separate plate, arranged attractively. My granddaught and I also order a fresh coconut to drink from, served cut open at the top with a straw inserted and a spoon so you can dig out the meat after you are done drinking. Out only problem with this place is the plastic chop sticks. The food slips right off them. While I applaud the conservation effort, we bring our own wooden chopsticks and avoid the battle of keeping the food on the sticks. These guys make some of the best pho we have ever eaten. read more

Despite its outward appearance (the building used to be a Pizza Hut), it was great. I cannot recall exactly what I ate, but it was some sort of stir fry with rice noodles, chicken, pork, shrimp, mushrooms, & onions. There were other things, but I ate it so quickly I cannot recall what they were. It was very flavorful and quite filling; for $10, it is well worth the money. I also ordered some sort of sampler platter that contained spring rolls, shrimp, & some other items (egg rolls?). They were also great and came with three sauces (sweet & sour, something peanut based, and some sort of oil that I could not name). The server was also wonderful; she was very helpful and spoke perfect English. As for the interior, it is still a work in progress; it is a bit bare. However, it was fairly clean and comfortable. We have just moved to the area from the Midwest and have been feeling homesick for our very favorite Vietnamese restaurant. On Saturday afternoon we went to Pho Viet and were not disappointed! We ordered no. 1 Spring Roll without shrimp, it was good - we will order it next time with some mint in it. My husband ordered Pho and his only complaint was that it didn't come with cilantro. He asked for cilantro and was told they didn't have any but (wonder of wonders) my dish arrived a few seconds later with 3 nice springs of cilantro on it. I shared. I got no. 57 with chicken and the lemongrass sauce. Lot's of chicken, lot's of veggies. I ate every bite. We will be back. This was the 4th Vietnamese restaurant we had visited since our arrival earlier this month and it was by far the best. We hope that the wait staff will figure out that if a customer asks for cilantro they make sure they don't have it before refusing the request. read more

Would be one star if wasn't for our awesome 2nd waiter. Our first waiter waiter ignored my girlfriend when she asked for water and soy milk. She didn't even greet us. I had to order for her. The waiter told us they didn't serve soy milk which I then proceeded to show her where it's listed in the menu. My girlfriend can understand the language spoken there and they were talking shit about us thinking we didn't know. Our egg rolls came out burnt and the food was bland in general. The staff greeted us immediately with a smile which is always a great start. The menu was much larger then I expected. It is 2 sided, with one side of it being mostly Pho and the appetizers but there are also many other choices on the back such as fried rice and grilled dishes. As first timers here, we took a while to review the menu but the waiter was very patient with us and answered all of our questions. I ordered eggrolls and the Northern style chicken Pho as the waiter told us, "northern is better". The eggrolls were small but very tasty. I wish now I had just ordered a bunch of those! The regular sized pho came out piping hot in a very large bowl. In my opinion it is just ok. The rice noodles were good and chewy but the broth had a strong unexpected flavor, maybe ginger or nutmeg, other than that it was a little bland and needed some additions of salt, pepper, hot sauce etc. Because of the great service and yummy eggrolls, I will come back to try something else on the menu. read more

I love how they were generous with the bean sprouts, basil, lime, and jalepenos. I can't stand places who skimp on this.. Its a must have for good pho! Anyways, the soup was very tasty.
