305L - "special" beef rice noodle soup
    Gordon C.

Decent, fast, and clean. The pho is alright and reasonably tasty, but nothing special. Service is fast and friendly (although expect to get up and pay at the counter). Meals arrive within minutes of ordering, as it should! As is true everywhere, price is a bit on the high side now at $16-$19 a bowl (depending on size) and the bowls seem to have shrunk a bit. Bring cash -- there's a 10% cash discount.

First time for lunch here! Great service. Thank you for the awesome food. Highly recommend it.

An old school pho place that has paaaages of food option and efficient no-nonsense staff that are always busy. Food may not be the gold standard, but it is hot, plentiful and filling. I got the South Vietnam style noodle soup, which came with seafood, quail egg, BBQ pork and a bunch of veggies. It also unexpectedly came with a shrimp cracker on the side. Broth was light and clear, but the noodles had plenty of flavor. Also got the Penny wort leave juice. Never had it before. It had a very herbaceous flavor that went well with the meal.

Came here after a long day at work and it was so busy at 8pm! Noodle soups were amazing! Spring rolls were a bit overcooked and tiny, but still tasty. Will definitely come back!

We used to come here for pho a few years ago, haven't been back in a while but gave their seafood clear noodle with shrimp cracker a try and it was ok. The soup wasn't really flavourful. My friends got the satay and tomato soup but it was all pretty water down/not strong in flavours. The portions are really big though. I had a hard time finishing a large (smallest size they offer for their speciality noodles).

It has been a while since the last time I have been to Pho Viet Xpress. I heard they have 15% discount on all orders for the month of March (2020) so I decided to check them out and take advantage of their deals. Luckily they have a dedicated vegetarian menu. I ordered #612 which is technically not Pho but is close enough! Very tasty and flavourful. Amazing portions. Affordable prices. Friendly and quick service. Cash or debit only. I strongly recommend it.

The good about this place is the restaurant interior. Among many Pho restaurant, this is considered to be nicely decorated and clean. The service was not very attentive. As I had to walk to the counter to pick up the menu, and then put in my order and then pay my bill in the end. But this restaurant is meant to serve you. Most disappointing would be the pho and spring rolls. Just the look of the spring roll is already telling me that this is more of the Chinese style wrap than the Vietnamese style. It is not crispy like how I used to eat them. The raw beef pho came very well done with only the tiny tip that is outside the soup that is raw. Also both the tendon and brisket are not soft in texture. The noodle is a bit on the chewy side. The soup is moderate, but at the end of day, I could feel the MSG kicking in. Overall, I will definitely not come back for pho nor the spring rolls. However, I do love their washroom.

How do you look at your first love and tell her the mascara is dropping? If you never tried this place, you should. It's popular for good reasons and their Xpress Special beed rice noodle (Pho) remains a great signature dish. But is it the absolute best? No, and I feel the establishment may be struggling due to COVID. Pho Viet Xpress has a special place in our family's heart because it was our first Pho place. The kids learned to eat pho there and it became a regular family tradition. However, on our last visit, we noticed some cracks in the otherwise stellar facade. The broth of the pho felt a little more diluted than usual. There were pieces of hard fat in the fresh beef roll, and the pad Thai was too sweet. Please, don't read this and think you should skip this restaurant. The staff is fantastic, friendly, and fast. They are applying COVID restrictions admirably. The place is clean, and this is still a fine establishment. However, given the number of times we've been there, we can't help but feel it was better before. Additionally, the stiff competition from other outstanding Pho restaurants in Toronto means that any institution's mistakes get judged hard and fast. Overall, these were still minor issues. We didn't feel like we had to send anything back. And I honestly hope those are just tiny mishaps in a trying time rather than a sign of things to come.

Still trying to find a viet restaurant in the GTA that will top those of YEG (best viet food I've had thus far!!). Pho Viet Xpress is located in a plaza on Bathurst (& Steeles). There's a good amount of tables here & quite spacious and clean too - not cramped like alot of other viet restaurants. Service was ok - they're efficient but forgot to blanch the bean sprouts like we asked (sall gucci tho, I'll live ;) hahaa). There was a couple tables of Vietnamese families when we came so, it's gotta be at least somewhat legit right?! Been here a couple times and the food is pretty consistent. Cha gio (chicken, shrimp, & veggie filled) - I didn't like the wrapper they used... it's different than every other place. It's not a spring roll wrapper nor is it the rice paper wrapper; it's kind of dense and not that crispy. Pho tai - Really good, clean broth w/ well-rounded flavour. The amount of meat they gave each time we visited was a bit inconsistent - can be alot, can be a little. Vermicelli w/ nem nuong - Yummy grilled pork meatballs. Good bun. Hu tieu my tho - Good change of pace if you ever get bored of eating your usual order. It came with a shrimp cracker but, the shrimp in it was totally old... the texture and taste had totally changed (for the worse). The broth was very clear, not too heavily seasoned or rich. The clear noodles stay nice and springy. Price is totally average - maybe even slightly cheaper than the places in Markham & Pho Metro (still one of my faves). Overall, pretty good choice for viet if you're ever in the area! Food is good, service is good, and prices are helllla good.

I am used to travelling to Scarborough for Pho, so this is pretty good Pho for the Thornhill area. I ordered the XL (315-Well-Done Beef, Soft Tendon, and Beef Tripe Rice Noodle Soup) and the noodles were prepared in a styrofoam box container with the meat on top. The noodles were cold and were REALLY sticking together like a giant lump. It was as if the noodles were prepared well in advance and placed in the container as a ready to order. The amount of meat was limited and the bean sprouts, mint leaves and pepper came in a bag with hot sauce and hoisin sauce. Having a separate packet for sauces is a nice touch. Although one of the mint leaves looked very stale. The soup came in a separate container. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out of the restaurant. You can also order through their website (pay online if you wish) and the food is ready for pickup in 15 minutes or so. There's about 10 free parking spots in front, with a few more spots on the side.

I was craving pho after coming home from a friend's place, and since I didn't reach my step goals, I decided to walk there. My hunger diminished slightly from the two-hour exercise, so I ordered a large-sized house special. Their bowls were small, large and x-large - there was no regular. The clear broth was full of rich flavour - not too salty - complementing the mild spice of raw sliced onion toppings, enhancing its taste with the sweetness of Thai basils and beansprouts. However, the mix of rare and well-done beef lumped together as if it had previously frozen.

Because where this Pho restaurant is situated, it is relatively cleaner than its other pho siblings. You come here because you want to see how on fleek the staff's eyebrows are. Lol jk we're here for Vietnamese food, come on give me a laugh. So I would ONLY recommend Pho here, maybe a 4/5~The soup is great, and that's all that really matters, oh and they use noodles that are right for my taste. Sometimes you go to chinese owned Pho places and you get these noodles that aren't just quite right. But if that's what your used to then that's fine too, everyone has different taste, but this review isn't about you. The rice dishes (Com tam) 2/5~ the rice they use is just normal rice. For me this is a deal breaker. Like if you look good on the outside and have a horrible personality, it's just hard to swallow... figuratively. Vermicelli dishes 3/5~ I mean you can't really screw up here. Vermicelli and fish sauce then some meat. Of course you need to get Nem nuong (Viet pork sausage) with this or else I would question why you are getting this at all. They have a different take on this. It's not your usual red sausage cut up. But they have cute balls put on skewer, the taste is also different and unique. Not bad, but its just not what im used to. So there you have it, hope you enjoy your meal here! I wonder if you got to the end of this review :p

We always order Pho Nam (XL $21.50) as well and both come loaded with a heaping portion of brisket slices in the piping hot noodle soup. From time-to-time, we also add the Banh Xeo savoury egg pancake which arrives on a huge plate even larger than the noodle bowls. Presented with a heap of greens & herbs, the crispy golden crepe is light and filled with bits of shrimp, pork, onions & bean sprouts. This is wrapped with the lettuce leaf for crunchy and refreshing bites. The menu prices have slowly but steadily increased over the past couple of years. There is still cash discount available. Not much has changed with the decor over the years in this spacious but dated restaurant interior. Service is always kind, fast and kid-friendly which is nice for young families. Skip it or hit it? My friend, Chris, suggested that we visit Vietnoms after a Yelp experience that made us crave something more. Luckily, it wasn't too far away. However, it was during rush hour on a Wednesday. We got here separately. This eatery is in a plaza that has a FreshCo anchoring it. The plaza has plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and met up with Chris. This place has limited spots for dining inside. We had no problem grabbing a table. There is bar seating at the front. This place has a patio. However, it was too hot to sit outside, even with a large patio umbrella at each table. We were greeted and seated promptly. We got menus. This place has its regular menu and off-menu specials. Wow! I remember Crosstown BBQ had a collaboration with Vietnoms. Sadly, I missed it. Chris got these items: - Water - Banh mi dip My order consisted of these items: - Cold tea - Matcha lemonade - Rare beef and beef ball pho (small) I asked how large the large bowl of pho was. He pointed at a man's bowl. It was large, so I went small. The cold tea was refreshing. It came in a teapot. I loved it so much that I poured the remaining tea in my empty cup that once had my matcha lemonade. The drinks here are solid. I loved my matcha lemonade. There was no matcha powder grit in my drink. It was perfectly blended. The lemonade part had lemon preserve, which made it super yummy. I'd get this drink again in a heartbeat. My pho order was messed up. I spent a while trying to find beef balls. I realized that I had rare beef and beef brisket. It was also a large. Chris was the first to point out to our server that I didn't have any beef balls. I fished out the two types of proteins that were in my pho. He was apologetic and wanted to make things right. I frankly wasn't offended by this mistake. The proteins were yummy. The pho was excellent. Although it was a large, I was able to down it. The broth was delicious. Our server came over with a bowl of six beef balls and a lot of green onions in the broth. He apologized again. It was great that this place wanted to make everything right. For someone who wanted a small pho, I ended up with a massive meal. Thank goodness I didn't order an appetizer! I am a beef ball person. The beef balls hit the spot. The extra green onions made me so happy. I loved them. Chris enjoyed his banh mi dip. At first, he felt that the dip part was too salty. However, when we dipped his banh mi halves into it, the broth was fine. I need to get what he got next time. It looked incredible, especially the brisket in the baguette. I used the washroom before I left. It was compact and clean. No issues. We paid at the front counter. I paid with a credit card for both of us, as Chris had cash. I now have a running tab to pay him back. This place was awesome and a great suggestion. I suspect that dining here on a weekend would be difficult because it's such a small indoor dining area with limited seating. We came on a weeknight at nearly 6 pm and it was perfect. I'd return to get more good eats. It's an awesome addition to this plaza. (342)

She also had something to drink, which she said was very good. I found the dipping broth a bit salty at first, but well balanced when had with the bánh mi. Mary's pho was missing the beef balls but that was soon corrected and she enjoyed it all. Although tiny (cozy), the dining room is very inviting, plus they have a little patio with umbrellas just outside the entrance. We chose to sit inside, avoiding the summer heat and bright sunlight. We enjoyed our meal while the traffic subsided.
