Decided to check this Oktoberfest out in Anaheim since all other Oktoberfest events in the South Bay were canceled. Ambiance was energetic considering I attended on a Sunday ( Family Day). Parking is limited. They had live music and one Queen of Oktoberfest hyping up the band. The food is ok, there's nothing that stands out or worthy of any praise. Potato salad tasted like it was mixed in apple sauce. The admission comes with a $15 food voucher. I'll try desserts next time. I tried a couple beers and the one that stood out above all others was the dark beer, it wasn't a stout so there was no coffee flavor in it. I forget what its called but I would recommend you drink this one, if you're a serious beer drinker, not for beginners. The Grapefruit bier unfortunately taste like a pop. The alcohol percentage is about 2.5% so it wasn't up to my beer standards. Overall I would visit this location again for the full experience. read more

Lots of food & fun @ their new location. Was there with the family this past Thanksgiving and the food presented was endless. The servers were on top of it making sure that your champagne glass was never empty. Make sure when you go there that your stomach is empty, as you will be going back for more several times. Have been at the new restaurant at least 3 times now. German food is delicious and top notch. Beer selections are great with a lot of hard to find German brews on tap. Service has been excellent each time we have been there. Also recommend their Lorelei room for special events. We had my father's celebration of life there and Linda was very accommodating to our needs and helped develop a special menu for the event. Everything turned out great. I doubt I will be back, and this is sad as I was looking forward to good service and good German food from a local restaurant in my hometown. I stopped in to pick up Potato Salad to go. They were not very busy, plenty of open tables. Order placed at 7:07. After 15-20 minutes I'm thinking WTH? Another customer ordered dinner at the bar after i placed my order and got her food before my to go order. The bar tender asked to see my receipt and wondered why I was still there. He checked and said the system didn't have my order, even though I paid and got a receipt. He walked back to the kitchen and said they were working on it. After another order of food came out and 10 more minutes of waiting I couldn't take it and left. No, I didn't ask for my money back I just left at 7:34. If it were me and I was the wait staff, and this happened, I would have personally got the order from the kitchen and walked it out. Very disappointed. read more

O! M! G! Checked out Bierstube (at The Phoenix Club) for the first time and had to ask myself "why have I not been here before?!" Great casual atmosphere, huge dining room, nice bar, lots of TV's showing multiple different sporting events and the food is amazing! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the friendliest & most welcoming staff I've ever encountered. I mean the entire staff really made you feel like you had been coming here for years, they were just that friendly. On to the food; this food is amazing! The portions are huge! The schnitzel itself is ginormous and it comes with a vegetable and potatoes. Any choice of their meats/sausage/bratwurst are huge as well and also delicious. Even if you only want a burger and fries, you're gonna be blown away as their burger is so juicy and perfectly made & the fries are crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. For dessert, the apple strudel is to-die-for with its fresh berries, it's the perfect portion you'd be able to split between 3 people. This is a German restaurant/pub, the food and service is excellent!!! They recently opened up, I think they said last April. I find it very refreshing that this restaurant is serving great hot and fresh food. I've really only been here for Oktoberfest and not any other time so I guess this review is mainly for Oktoberfest at the Phoenix Club. It's more low key than others places so that's a plus. During Oktoberfest, event parking lot is for valet and all other's are street parking. Entrance fee $10 if i remember correctly. Everything here is cash, converted into ticket, but there are ATM's available at the venue. Tickets need to be purchased in order to grab some grub and brew. If you're a newbie to the Phoenix Club Oktoberfest the ticket system might be a bit confusing. You go to a ticket booth, pay them cash, they give you tickets. You use said tickets to purchase food and grub. Most other Oktoberfest in SoCal just uses cash from what I remember. Tickets are 5=$20, while 2 tickets = 1 Pint of beer. Same goes for most of the food. The food and beer here are so so. There is the traditional German food, Schnitzels, Bratwurst and beers. But the lines are long, food is fair and parking is fair. read more

This was my first visit to the new location and while it is a smaller venue than the previous location I certainly enjoyed the food. I came in on Wednesday for the happy hour. I ordered the Bratwurst sandwich, the Spätzle and the potato pancakes along with some ginger ale. Overall the food was great. My only critique was that the bun in sandwich was maybe a bit harder than ideal, but otherwise perfect. The Spätzle was tasty and the potato pancakes were good as well. The wait staff were kind and attentive. Parking is plentiful. With many other German food options in the area gone it is good to see the Phoenix Club back. I would definitely recommend and will return when I'm in the area. read more

Not kid friendly!! Super disappointed in the service we received when we went here with our kids. We came on a Saturday afternoon at about 3 pm when the restaurant was relatively slow. The waitress was very short and rushed us out. I watched her stand at the bar, staring at my children who were quietly coloring with disgust. Check was dropped without asking if we would like another drink and way before we were finished with our meals. This was night and day from our experience, one week prior without children with the same waitress. Hosted at the Phoenix Club, they delivered fun live music, authentic German dishes, games for prizes, and of course, bountiful German Beers! It was a fun experience all around. Their German band, The Express, played the entire night and let me tell you.. They Got Down! Playing from pop to the classics, they were even able to take and perform crowd requests! The band's performance alone is enough reason to attend! It was a fun atmosphere. While the prices are a little sharp, please understand you're paying for the authenticity and experience. We've dined at this restaurant at their previous location near the Honda Center. We live in Brea and were ecstatic to hear that they had moved to Brea! We had a nice time dinning at the new location until we asked for a refill of water. The Caucasian server walked to the kitchen and we overheard her stereotype us by saying to the staff "mas agua, mas agua" meaning more water for table #___. The kitchen staff came out to pour us a glass of water. This server was not our original server. Our server must had gone on break because we didn't see her for a while. We saw the other server and asked for water, but made this unpleasant comment. read more

I'm so happy this restaurant is back open after fifteen long months. The food is still just as fantastic and the atmosphere is so friendly. I would recommend any of the pork cutlet dishes, smoked bratwurst sausages, and the Black Forest chocolate cake is a must. The service is also great. read more

I have never dined in a restaurant calling itself German so I didn't know what to expect. Was there going to be German flags and music and beer steins all over the place? Maybe a soccer match on the TV. Maybe I should have looked around more, I didn't see any of that. We were a group of 4 and got a table right away. Ladies in the booth, men on the chairs. I was comfortable myself, I see other Yelp reviewers complained about the chairs. Wasn't a problem to me. I ordered a dark beer with a German sounding name neither I nor our waitress could pronounce. It was really good. I had two and I never do that. I ordered the Beef Roll, it was really tasty. There was cabbage and snitzel, however you spell it. Not a fan but that's ok. I wanted to try it. We all had various items and everyone loved the food. We would do carryout here for sure. I guess the only "complaint" I have is the decor and setup of the dining area wasn't really nice. So happy that they re-opened in Brea. I think the ambiance will get better as the hall 'ages' and has been fully decorated. My wife and I had the potato pancakes and the cold cut plate as appetizers. The potato pancakes were just as wonderful as they were in Anaheim. And the cold cut plate could have been a meal in itself! Great variety and a way to taste many German foods. Both of us had the Wienerschnitzel and it was fabulous. Between us we had mashed and fried potatoes, red cabbage and sauerkraut. Mashed could have used a little more seasoning/butter, but everything else was spot on. And I would be remiss if I did not mention Robin. Everything went very well with delicious food, friendly, efficient service, comfortable seating, large selection of food and drinks. The pork schnitzel was generous size, tender, flavorful and beautiful! I had it with potatoes that were cooked perfectly and fresh green beans. The bread roll was hot and fresh. Also, a pretzel was a delicious, perfect addition but not necessary because the main course was plenty. The staff members were all very helpful and friendly too. Two separate take out orders, a Hungarian Goulash, a Beef rouladin and another pretzel were packaged well and arrived safely home and were also delicious and attractive. Looking forward to the next visit. The club has a very comfortable European decor. It's more open and airy (at noon) than the former Phoenix Club in Anaheim with a family friendly breakfast and lunch menu and table arrangements. They also have a good-size separate, attached area for parties, etc that I didn't see, as well as a nice outdoor patio with tables. We're all looking forward to the next visit. read more

Could have been a lot better. We have been going to Die Bierstube at The Phoenix Club for years now. Today, 4/12/24, we visited their new location in Brea. The food was delicious tasting as usual, however service was abysmal. We were a party of 3 and showed up and the place was packed. We were seated within a couple minutes but at a dirty table. We lucked out in getting a table as it was busy and they asked if we had a reservation, which we did not as we were unaware that they were offered or required. Once seated we waited about 10 minutes before flagging down a busboy to wipe down our table which was covered in beer and grease from the previous party. We waited another 10 minutes before a waitress gave us menus to look at. She came back to get our drink order after another 5 or so minutes. They do not have all soft drinks on the menu on tap yet but do have most listed. We were given 3 complimentary rolls each with 1 foil wrapped pat of butter. If you want any additional bread it is $1.50 each roll or slice of bread. If you would like a free refill on a soda be sure to order a meal, otherwise you will be charged for another soda. Everything extra here has an extra charge. Per their menu: "One complimentary roll is served with entree meal, additional bread available at $1.50 per roll or slice. 1 side of dressing or sauce is complimentary, extra dressing or sauce is $3.00 per serving, extra Jager Sauce is $4.75". We placed an order for a pretzel appetizer and were shocked when it came out and was about 1/3 the size of the pretzel served at their previous Anaheim location. The pretzel was not as large as it had been and I feel was bit overpriced at $8.00 for the size received. We placed our order for an order of Wienerschnitzel, an order of Hahnchenschnitzel (Chicken Schnitzel) and an order of Rinderrouladen (Stuffed Beef Rolls). About 20 minutes after placing our food order only 2 entrees arrived. At this point we had finished our pretzel and sodas and were waiting with empty glasses for a refill. I had to finally get up from my seat to go to the bar to ask for refills for 2 of our sodas and to ask for the forgotten lemon wedges that should have accompanied the Wienerschnitzel that had been served to us already. We also had to ask for utensils and napkins as we hadn't received any. At that point I asked the bartender for the refills and also if he could find out what had happened to our third entree as it was already 15 minutes since the two entrees had been served. He asked us who our waitress was and I pointed her out. He said her name was Robbin. I would have asked her about our entrees or for a drink refill but she did not glance in our direction as she was waiting on other tables. It seemed they were in over their heads tonight and had 3 waitresses to wait on the entire restaurant of approximately 60 or so customers that were seated. On another note, the ambiance in the new Bierstube was very sterile. I felt like I was dining in a mess hall or cafeteria. All the tables had white numbers on them at one edge of the table. The seating is wooden tables with wooden chairs. Some of the outer areas have half bench and half wooden chairs. These chairs are uncomfortable to sit in. The bar is not very big and not decorated as nicely as it had been at their previous location. The decorations are sparse and not nearly as nice as in the Anaheim location. Over all it was very crowded and people were standing around waiting for tables to open up. It was not a relaxing enviornment at all. It was also very loud and noisy and we had to speak up to be heard at our own table. The couple at the table right next to us were sitting and waiting to pay their bill and get a to-go box for a good 15 minutes or so. I finally told them that they would have to flag anyone down just to get their bill. When we were ready to leave we had to ask 3 times for our check. At that point our waitress gave us our bill finally and said "Sorry, we're working out the kinks. It will be better next time.". That was it. There was no apology for the slow service, for me having to get my own soda refills, for getting the lemon wedges that were supposed to have come with our meals, and for the late arrival of our third entree after asking about its whereabouts. No manager came by, nobody apologized or offered any sort of compensation for all of these things. In my humble opinion, they opened this restaurant too soon and with inadequate staff to handle the customers and workload presented. I feel they should have waited until all sodas listed on the menu were on tap, they had finished decorating, and they had adequate staff to accommodate the demand. read more

Erste Mal/first time at the yearly Oktoberfest sponsored by the Phoenix Club although many times I did enjoy the one at Alpine Village in Torrance where I can wander off to do some shopping like at Alpine Cosmetics where a nice German lady sells all sorts of German health goods & Alpine Market to buy a full range of German food, beers, wines when I got tired of the festivities at the Bierfest tent. The Phoenix also has a huge tent for the band, entertainers, dancers. The chicken dance played by the band was extra special since two of the members wore whimsical hen shaped hats. Plenty of booths to buy food such as: Rheinische Reibekuchen/potato pancake w/ apple sauce Bratwurst, Smoked Bratwurst, Weißwurst, Leberkäse Schweineschnitzel/breaded pork cutlet Brathendl/roast chicken Schweinehaxe/pork ham hock Hungarian Goulash Soup American atrocities such as hot dog & hamburger Vegan option of Veggie Portobello Boca Burger, French fries, Garden Green Salat We saw an amusing dance by two burly men who danced to claim seating rights over a small wooden bench. The MC asked for a volunteer from the audience to try to blow into a long Alpine horn. It's not as easy as it seems. We ended Oktoberfest by not eatIng at the booths, but ending up in the Phoenix Club restaurant since i heard that the German food there was probably the best In Socal. I had already tried the egregious German food at Jägerhaus & the mediocre German at Alpinehaus so I kept my fingers crossed while ordering the Kasseler Rippchen & the Jägerschnitzel. Both proved to be excellent. Kasseler Rippchen is a brined & smoked pork chop then panfried. Meat is firm, dense, porky, salty yet moist. Meat near the rib bone is sweet & succulent w/ a bbq like smokiness. Lightly crisped potatoes & lightly fermented Sauerkraut was a mildly funky gastrique & palate cleanser. Jäger means hunter so this breaded pork cutlet has earthy mushroom based gravy generously poured over the cutlet. Spätzle are tiny dumplings sautéed in sweet butter for a drier, chewiness. Julienned carrots & stringbeans added vegetal relief. All the above was washed down w/ Spaten Oktoberfest Bier from the state of Bayern/Bavaria. The only comparable German food may be at Continental Deli in La Habra run by a German from near Bonn. The restaurant is a bit more formal than the casual Bierstube. Our waiter was very polite & service was gracious. Oktoberfest & the Phoenix restaurant both merited 4+ Yelp stars. It is the best organised Oktoberfest in all of SüdCalifornia. read more

I went to this event last year, for the first time, and I had the best time of my life. I was expecting the same for this year, if not more, because of it being their last year at the Phoenix Club. I'm not going to lie, I was very disappointed this year. On the website, it says they're doing things "a little different," this year. I didn't think "a little different" meant that it was NOT going to happen in the large tent. I don't what difference a year makes, but I was disappointed, to say the least. The FUNNEST EVER when it comes to Oktoberfest! $5 to go in and the food was super good. I hate ketchup but I do enjoy the curry ketchup. Great choice of sausages. Go early to grab free parking in the back. Prepare to dance a lot. Best cardio workout for everyone. No one is left behind! Everyone is welcomed in the dance floor. Bring extra cash in fact it is a only cash for food and booze. $5 for jaugermaister shots. Some few vendors took plastic. Again For food and beer it is only cash up front then you get tickets like in carnival. I saw all ages all colors genders. It is nice to see all ages and colors coming together in peace! Bring the kids bring grandma bring your lover and your enemies! (lol) Drawbacks: bathrooms for woman can be a challenge. So Porto potty is the way to go. If u are into camping you will be fine if you are princess then u might suffer. It does wrap up early about the witching hour so try to best uber early. A 5 star for the food the band! We came here with the family to celebrate Oma & Opa's 50th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. It was busy very quickly nearing 5pm due to the prime rib that's available Sundays. Everyone enjoyed their food and there was enough for all to have a taste. Schnitzels and the brats were great. Spaetzle was buttery and tasty, ghoulash was flavorful and salted perfectly which was great because it almost always is too salty at other places. Their rolls get an honorable mention-served hot, crispy and chewy so good. The jagerschnitzel was fantastic. Tried some of my sister-in-laws bacon and cheese spaetzle and would love to order that at breakfast with an egg on top . It was super hot out and so the chilly grapefruit radler hit the spot. Service was excellent even though it was hectic and busy. Everyone was warm and friendly. Dining room was a modest size and I hear there's a large private dining room down the hall so that's good to note for any future get togethers we may have. Our family had previously frequented Jagerhaus, formerly Gustav's in Anaheim for nearly 35 years so we were all heartbroken to not have family style German cooking that we could enjoy. This place has really gone downhill.. awful experience yesterday at the Phoenix club: - they let in way too many people and were unable to handle the need to serve them - instead of having multiple booths serving food, they just had one, the line was 45 minutes long - they didn't set anything out to help organize the lines, so people were just standing around not knowing which line was which - the food wasn't as good as usual either, probably because the long wait ruined it and the food wasn't hot - they did NOT play polka music! - instead, the band played old pop covers from the 60's and some from the 80's - they had their band up there, they just weren't playing polka - the energy level was also off, the band was just kind of calling it in I've been here several times through the years, it is sad to see it destroyed through mismanagement and greed. read more
