*Blink & you'll miss it* - Tiny shop on the South side of Thomas just before the Starbucks & light at 32nd st. - the signage currently has a neon yellow as a marker for the shop, but it is hard to miss if you don't know what you are looking for. This business is so, so incredibly welcoming with a staff who understands that clothes are meant to fit YOU, not you being meant to fit CLOTHES. I am the daughter of a designer & master seamstress, so I grew up knowing what it takes to custom fit clothes & the art of making the perfect stitch or sewing an invisible seam - while also being aware of an appropriate cost to do so. When at times I am unable to sew my own garments, I come here because of not only trusting the prices, but mainly the impeccable alterations and tailoring. There are dressing rooms for you to change into whatever the item is, where you then get "fitted" in front of a (very flattering) full length mirror for your custom adjustments to be made by the seamstress. My boyfriend took his new business slacks to get altered. They had them 2 weeks. Finally had a chance to stop by for them to say they lost the pants couldn't find them. They looked for 20 mins. They said they replace them but will look more. The next day they called and said they found them. Apparently someone on maternity leave took them home to work on them forgot all about them. Not ok! I'm overall happy with the work done here. It's a little pricey but the quality is there. I paid $22 for a replacement zipper on a skirt and $60ish to get a dress hemmed. It was a tricky dress and lined, so I get the cost but in both cases I paid more to have the items tailored than the original cost. But to be fair both were discounted and all and all it was worth it. They do great work and it's always on time. They are upfront about the cost too, so it's not like they aren't transparent and you pay upfront. read more

DONT RISK IT! CHOOSE SOMEPLACE ELSE!!! I would highly recommend finding another place for alterations. I brought my brand new airline uniforms to this place and I've had to return every item and have them redone and even the corrections are awful. What a nightmare, never again. When I went in today to pick up the last item and checked it and showed her that it looked exactly the same, an uneven skirt hem, she said "well I didn't do it, but that's how it should look". As you can see by the pictures, it most defiantly should not look that way. Anyone with eyes and common sense can tell you that the hems were uneven, threads didn't match. Everything is noticeable. The hem on the dress is right in front so when I'm sitting I have to stare at it and it's so disappointing for a brand new piece of clothing. This should be an exciting time to come out fresh with a new look and new uniform and Phoenix Custom Tailors ruined that, I never write reviews but I had to help someone avoid ruining an important piece of clothing. Update-This most certainly is not true, I was given $10.00 back towards $100 of alterations and I was never given a receipt for my Skirt hems. I meant to ask for it yesterday but was so upset about the skirt still being unacceptable that I forgot to ask for it. I truly appreciate your apology and the $10.00 discount but what I wanted was for my pieces to be redone correctly. I will be calling today for follow up. I posted the review because I was told yesterday that what I walked away with was acceptable work and it is not. read more

I freakin love this place. I found it maybe three years ago when I needed a dress hemmed and I've been coming ever since. I really want to tell you about my most recent experience. I had stressed denim vest that ripped at the seam after washing it. I attempted to go to amazon to see if I could find something familiar and didn't. I took it here and they were able to patch it and it actually looks even better than before! They did it in less than a week. I almost want to say it was within 72 hours. The staff is friendly. I brought a dress there today which was a bit "baggy" along the bustline. Lawanna (I hope I spelled her name correctly!) fitted me and before I left it, she asked if I had washed it. When I said no, she advised me to wash it before we did anything as it was a cotton knit and would shrink. Well, sure enough, it did shrink, to the point of fitting perfetly without needing any alteration. I have to commend her for her honesty and integrity! Many establishments would merely do the alteration without asking important questions. This shop definitely has amazing customer service. Very nice ladies that work there. The owner and her other employee always takes great care of me and my tailoring needs. I can remember coming in and having some pants that needed to be stitched in the inseam because the original stitching had come apart. Rather than make me wait another day they took me right there on the spot. Also, there was a time that I needed to be sized for an out of town wedding and again they took great care of me right there on the spot within minutes I was in and out. CHECK THE PRICES AT PHOENIX CUSTOM TAILORS ON THOMAS AND 32nd ST. Well, what a horrible experience at this place. I have had some alterations at this place, first 2 times no problem. The owner is a lady in her middle 60s or so, plus one employee and the daughter. The third time I left a jacket and the daughter gave me the price plus a little bit more to be determined by the mother, the owner. I took couple more items for the same alterations that I had the previous times and the daughter gave me the prices. This time I was attended by the mother with a VERY RUDE ATTITUDE and on top of that she gave me prices much higher than the previous alterations. Obviously I mentioned the prices that the daughter gave me and she insisted that she was giving me the right price. I insisted and wanted she to give me the same price because it's what the daughter told me. She pulled a piece of paper with some prices and I said that I just wanted to pay for what the daughter told me. She said, my daughter WAS WRONG OR IF I GIVE YOU THE PRICE SHE TOLD YOU I WILL NEED TO FIRE HER !!!' OMG ! The mother firing the daughter and insisted saying; I AM THE OWNER AND I PUT THE PRICES.... Because of the alterations ithe jacket needed to be done allow her to finish the alterations at the price she said...., I DIDN'T WANT TO ARGUE WITH A LADY. I picked my items and I noticed that even I paid cash the previous times, another cliente wanted to pay and he was told that they only accept cash or check. I took a close look to the "receipts" and I noticed that is just a piece of paper with no name or description of the service, some pieces of paper ( their receipts ) have the name of the place in the back and some other receipts have nothing. What came to my mind if they claim all the money they make in cash to the IRS, the way they operate looks shady. All of us pay taxes and I am not sure but seems to be this is a way for them no to pay taxes in full. I will investigate how legal this " receipts " are and have some information from IRS. I will never go back to a place that treats me like this lady, just because SHE IS THE OWNER ? Does she understand that she makes her living from the money, we the clients pay!???!
