The pumpkin chicken curry was uniquely flavorful and filled with veggies. The panang curry, was also good but paled in the shadow of the pumpkin curry. One Thai chef cooks all the orders as they come in, so it can be a little wait. I ordered the drunken noodles and green curry. The noodles in drunk noodles were chewy and sticky and coated in soy/hoisin based sauce. I don't eat Thai food that often, is it suppose to taste like Chinese food? Either way, I enjoyed it. The green curry tasted strongly of coconut milk, almost too strong. And not very green, lol. It was so unlike any curry I've had. I wasn't that fond of it at the start, but I got more used to it as I ate. Wasn't really my favorite tho. I would have preferred less coconut milk and more curry flavors. We went to this place for lunch because of the ratings...let me tell you not a bit discussed- by far the tastiest Thai I have ever had, when you drive up its the small part of a bigger building but it's really a whole in the wall, there can't be more then 4 table to sit at in side, a bit dingy but overall very clean and kinda cute...the service is great and again the food is unbelievable, they don't accept American Express and also they do have a couple bench tables outside...I will definitely come back when in the area. The food is really tasty and I would give 5 stars for quality and flavor. I've only had take out here twice that we ordered ahead of time. Both times the food was ready about 1/2 hour after they said it would be ready so my rating is lower. I get not being right on time but these are long waits in the car waiting for the food. The other big problem with take out is I didn't get what I ordered and paid for; they shorted me an order of chicken satay. They bring out the to go orders already bagged up. Don't trust them. You need to have them take everything out of the bag to see if what you paid for is actually there. Don't be a fool like I was and give them a tip without checking to see if they really earned it. I'll never leave a tip here again. This seems to be a great place on a downhill slide. read more

I had the Massaman Curry with chicken, Thai iced tea, and mango sticky rice for dessert. This place had nearly 5 stars on Yelp, but my experience was probably closer to 2 1/2 stars for various reasons. They were very friendly and the food was good... Just not what I was expecting. I ordered 4 star spice (out of 5 star options), but must have been zero spice. I could not taste any spice at all... I prefer a heavy curry flavor. It was good, but not what I wanted. So mild that I could taste the coconut milk and potatoes over any hint of curry. For dessert, there was a choice with Mango, or ice cream, but I never got to say which type I wanted before the waitress walked away, so it ended up being a surprise (probably for the best, as I would have ordered the ice cream). The whole meal was very good, but curry that did not taste like curry, zero spice, and mango instead of ice cream - plus, I didn't see a spoon until I was already half done with my curry. Oh wow, to put it lightly this place is legit. I had an early dinner today and the wife and I decided to go on a trek to get some Thai food. One of my favorite foods is Thai, I will often start with the basics before I make the decision to try other offerings. Today I tried the red curry, pad thai, and a chicken satay appetizer. Their peanut sauce is really good, it's full of flavor I am not sure how they prepare it but it's not just a simple peanut butter sauce - it has some coconut flavor, sesame flavor, garlic flavor - maybe a little lime or tamarind. The chicken was cooked well, still moist, cooked with some lemon grass and maybe some turmeric? The red curry was full of flavor and almost creamy, from the first bite I immediately was filled with satisfaction. They must use a large amount of curry paste and cook down the coconut milk to give it a almost creamy consistency. Served with jasmine rice - I eat this dish by dumping the entirety of the rice on my plate and spoon over the curry. I ate every last bite, and finished by spooning up the last bit of curry from the bowl to get one last taste. The pad thai was very good, they did not top it with a peanut sauce like some other places that I have visited in the past do, this is a good thing. Pad Thai is not supposed to be covered in peanut sauce it's simply not the right flavor for it. The noodles were perfectly, stir fried with egg, fish sauce, tamarind, garlic, and other amazingness. Topped with chopped peanuts, bean sprouts, and green beans. The restaurant was small but clean, ample parking, service was prompt and attentive. Considering the quality of the food, the price was very low. The only thing I would want to see changed is I would love to see thai eggplant in their curry instead of green beans. I do not like green beans, but honestly I ate them right up because the food was soo good, the green beans didn't distract at all. Most thai places don't even use thai eggplant, it's often american or japanese eggplant - so the fact they didn't use eggplant is probably a good thing - who is going to have a steady supply of thai eggplant in spokane anyway!? Oh yum! This place has the best Thai food had a nice little sit down with my sister and our boyfriends! We shared two appetizers of seasoned chicken with peanut sauce and beef with onions that were seasoned with spices, lime and cilantro. I had pad Thai, which never fails to hit the spot, my sister has the pad see ew, my boyfriend had the red curry and my sisters boyfriend had the beef pad thai. I totally spaced pics because I was starving (I'm sorry ) but everything looked absolutely delectable! All the dishes had great flavor and the veggies were not mushy. They were cooked but still had some texture and crunch which was great. If you like heat\spicey, don't expect much here. We started with standard for the pinapple fried rice, two stars for the Thai basil, and four stars for the broccoli beef. None of the diahes were what my wife or I would consider spicey. But even so we ordered an extra five star Thai basil with chicken to-go and took our other leftovers. The sticky rice w\mango was really good. A light yet heavy desert, which sounds contradictory but makes sense if you eat it. Sweet but too much so. The people are very nice and the place itself was clean. Phonthip Style Thai Restaurant is our favorite Thai food in Spokane. They make a bold, flavorful Panang Curry, spicy chicken entrees, and a creamy coconut rice and fresh mango dessert. Phonthip is "hole-in-the-wall" Thai at its finest. The space is small so be sure to get there early or stop in and take your food to go. When you first walk into Phonthip, you can't help but notice the authenticity behind the decor and overall ambiance. We got there around 5 pm on a Saturday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Shortly after the tables started to fill up and there were a lot of take-out orders being picked up throughout the night. Be prepared to place your order quickly and the food comes out fast. Like I said, it is a small space, so they are trying to turn tables. Our server was accommodating and sweet as could be. She didn't speak much english but understood everything we needed her to. When a Thai restaurant is run by an all Thai staff, you know it's going to be good. One of the reasons I love Thai food so much is because I know I will be getting mango stick rice for dessert. This sweet treat is made from rice soaked in coconut milk/coconut cream and topped with fresh, ripe mango. The mango sticky rice at Phonthip is creamy, sweet, and tangy. The sweet combination is second to none. We had 5 people and mowed through two of these dishes without problem. I'd recommend ordering one for every 2-3 people. They only offer this dessert seasonally so be sure to get in there and try it before mango season is done and gone. read more

I don't like to write bad reviews but there's no other place that the staff has made me cry. This used to be a spot I would bring friends but tonight they showed an uglier side. They told me to wait 40 minutes for an order they didn't prepare. When they told me they actually didn't ever have my order, they then very publicly belittled me for ever believing they would make it. They also declined to make it right, even for ready money. Maybe the language barrier led to the miscommunication because I can't imagine what I did for them to choose to conduct their business without communication, kindness, or integrity. After discovering pad Thai in college, it's a noodle dish I always need wherever I am living. With pad Thai it can't be dry or have mushy noodles, I don't like it when it's too sweet. This pad Thai is good! It's saucy enough, the noodles have a nice bite and it has a good balance of umami and sweetness. It is full of flavor and was everything pad thai should be. Even though I ordered a "5" on spiciness for my larb salad, I went with a "3" for the pad thai. I really wanted to experience the flavors firsthand without them being muddled by the spiciness, even though I love a good spice to thai food. It was perfectly spiced and I have to note: doesn't have that fake orangey tinge to it that a lot of mediocre thai food has. The service: The woman cooking AND serving was amazing. The menu had plenty of Thai favorites with a few I wasnt familiar with. Definitely going back to try them. We started with chicken satay which didnt dissapoint. After that, I got chicken pad thai and was pleased with both the portioning and the freshness of ingredients. My husband got the Red curry entree with pork and rice. He was very happy with it as they got it to the hotness he desired. His Thai iced tea had a good, rich tea flavor which other restaurants water down. This one was stout which is what we like. Two combo items for $10 with rice and salad. The place is small so I wouldn't come with more than 4 peeps. Service is good and fast.
