Don't come here for pho. Come for the curry waffle fries, drinks, and D-Town pizza. The service was great. When they asked how everything was and we said not good they were very apologetic. The pho we got was inedible, like two bites and we couldn't stomach it. They went to test the broth and agreed it wasn't good. Took the bowl off our meal price and offered quick replacements. They said that it was burnt and a fresh pot should have been used. I didn't say anything to the server but the problem was not old overheated broth. It was the simple fact that we were not served pho, just some dirty generic brand store beef soup with noodles. It was the lack of flavor and dimension that pho has. Not a hint of five spice, ginger, fish sauce, nada. It was also the dirtiest broth I have ever seen in pho. Like they didn't know you're supposed to strain out the dark bits... it was just bad bad dirty beef soup. This place is wonderful! Anything off their Bar menus is delicious, highly recommend the fish sauce and buffalo wings! Their grilled meats are delectable, great Vietnamese flavors and generous portions. The staff is wonderful, provide great service and are very accommodating. They have a full bar and happy hour for their tasty drinks! Every time I go to trader joe's i end up stopping here for a bite and quick drinks! It's not the most authentic Vietnamese experience around, but it is very good, and sometimes that's all that matters. Phorage's rice bowls and salads both are excellent - I recommend the papaya salad in particular. Banh mi is decent. If you don't want to deal with the Trader Joe's parking garage, street parking is relatively easy too. Weirdly, they have recently merged with the pizza business next door, but at long as I don't randomly find cheese and pepperoni in my banh mi, I guess we're good! Pro tip - order by phone. Their banh mi and vermicelli are decent but this review is specifically for the beef pho. It is bad. I couldn't even finish it. The broth is all wrong (btw, the broth is the most important thing in Pho) The meat was OK. I guess I was expecting too much since I am Viet and lived in San Gabriel for many years, spoiled by the Pho in that area. Of course, the best Pho is in OC, but too far. Wonderful service, dishes rooted in authentic Viet flavors with a twist, really special cocktails. I'm Vietnamese and love broken rice - which is very hard to find in LA. Usually I have to go to Monterey Park or Westminster's Little Saigon to get the best broken rice plates. Well, the broken rice here is honestly the most moist broken rice I've ever had - and the jidori chicken we ordered it with was perfectly seasoned with the char I look for with Viet broken rice / chicken plates. The fish sauce had a great balance too - sometimes Vietnamese restaurants in LA blend their fish sauce/nuoc cham a bit too sweet or tart or watered down. Phorage gets it right. And it goes perfectly with their imperial rolls - also hard to find in LA since most Vietnamese restaurants in general tend to use wheat egg roll wrappers instead of rice paper for their fried egg rolls. I don't know why, but my mom told me it's because it's time intensive to use rice paper - even though rice paper gets you a deeper crunch and a more satisfying chew. I LOVED the garlic noodles - and not every Chinese/Viet restaurant that offers this plate (usually with shrimp) does such a great job of getting that beautifully well-rounded / perfectly-cooked-garlic flavor. Get it with the fried tofu - because it's exactly the kind of crisp, light fried tofu you're probably hoping for and can't get often enough. We got the cocktail with the kaffir lime-infused Tito's vodka. It was PERFECT. Our server was wonderful - so nice and with warm, bright energy - and we had an amazing time on the patio. read more

We have had a very interesting experience with this restaurant. On our first two visits, the service and the food was fantastic. These visits occurred in June and July, then everything suddenly went downhill. The food quality took a major dip with regards to the heat of the items, and strangely the amazing pork we've had there on the first two visits was gone and replaced with very nasty and generic pork slices. Gone where the caramelized exteriors of the pork, and be placed by cheap slices that had a funky taste to them. Also the service was very last two days ago on our last two visits. They seemed disorganized and disinterested and getting the order is correct, both of our last two orders have mistakes. On the last visit my partner was able to talk to the manager, a young Asian gentleman, and surprisingly he was very nonchalant about the mistakes and quality. I can't stress enough that restaurants that have service issues need to really focus on fixing them and demanding better from their staff. There may be a shortage of quality workers that are focused on their jobs in California, what were the prices you charge and you need to do better. So there you have it, this was a rising star for us and then it fell back to Earth hard. The response of the manager to our concerns cemented the fact that they could care less about addressing the issues and we're just going to keep on doing what they do regardless if their customers were happy or not. read more

My wife and I went in for dinner the other night. Very cool setup. First and foremost, the service is fantastic! Alvie, the GM, was welcoming and Alejandra was great about chatting through the menu. Alejandra, the bartender, made a great Vesperado. Highly recommend order off of the Hawker Market menu. We ordered pick up (way before the stay at home lockdown) and Phorage completely changed my perspective on noodle soup take out. The chef/owner purposely cooks it slightly al dente when you order take out so it doesn't get soggy by the time it makes it home. Having lived in Asia for 7 years and growing up with heavy Asian culture, I'm extremely picky about my pho. 2 most important elements in an amazing pho - the broth and the texture of the noodle. Phorage nailed both and surpassed my expectation. The noodles were cooked perfectly without being too soft. The depth and complexity of the beef broth was so satiating that it makes you want to drink the entire bowl. The other dishes we ordered - imperial roll, chicken pho, pork vermicelli - were amazing too. They are known for the imperial roll and make sure to eat it with the entire spread. It's a game changer. Ordered pickup and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the pho. The broth was quite delicious and had nice flavors. The broth reminded me of my favorite pho spots, which is great bc those spots aren't very close to me. There's free 1-hr parking in the building so that'll help when street parking is difficult. The staff was friendly, but I could tell they were a little overwhelmed. For my pickup, there was a hiccup - no sprouts or limes. I live close enough that going back to get the missing items wasn't too inconvenient. But, not sure if they ran out, there were no limes. Came in to try this new place! Was really excited that I had a viet place close to my house. Right off the bat, super welcoming atmosphere. And absolutely wonderful service. I only had two things , the imperial rolls and the beef pho. 3/5 The imperial rolls, they were good! The only thing that was missing was the garnishes. I know this is a new concept and it's more "fancy" but I would have liked more lettuce to wrap the rolls in, and some herbs and pickles. 1/5 I actually wasn't able to eat the pho. The broth was so insanely salty. It tasted like it had been simmering and it reduced and they forgot to add water. It was basically bouillon broth and no actual beefy flavor. I don't think I've had pho broth I couldn't even continue to eat. 5/5. The service was immaculate. That was the redeeming quality. When I let them know about the broth being too salty they took it back and removed it from my check. Not to mention they were very kind and super friendly. I don't know if I would return unless I was already literally in front of it or I was with a friend who wanted to go there. Both are pretty good but seemed as if they added bouillon versus boiling bones for a dozen or more hours to truly get pho broth. It was a good noodle soup though. This place is perfection. From the decor and the inspired drinks to the insanely delicious food and friendly staff - Phorage is a welcome addition to West Hollywood. I started with the No. 24 rum drink that's inspired by Kobe Bryant and I have to say I've never had a drink exceed my expectations like this one. Super smooth and flavorful - I'm obsessed. For food I had the fish sauce wings, glazed shrimp with broken rice, eggplant and tofu clay pot, and the chicken pho.
