I had to get their signature spicy orange chicken which is tangy and perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. It's seriously such a great deal with the amount they give you. Even their dim sum items are discounted during lunch too so I got all my favorites like shumai, radish cakes, green onion pancakes, string beans, and even the rainbow xiaolongbao sampler which is basically Russian roulette for you to guess the flavor of each. As someone who's super picky about dim sum, I think this spot has some of the BEST and most authentic dim sum in West LA, with an extensive selection of traditional dishes (pork and shrimp shumai, crystal shrimp dumplings, fried radish cakes, egg yolk black buns), as well as fun options such as the Juicy Roulette Xiao Long Bao set. I've been coming here for the past two years, and their quality is stayed consistently high, if not even improving! They also have an amazing cocktail menu (which is more unusual for dim sum spots) and weekday lunch special menu from 12-3 PM, which features select dim sum and traditional Chinese dish combos at VERY affordable prices (all under $20). This place is super good. I do have to say that sometimes their phone works, and recently it hasn't been working. But other than that, I would say it is probably better than Din Tai Fung. It's super cute inside, and I would say that they're pretty good at their service. The parking is a little bit difficult, but they do offer valet. We lucked out and caught a parking spot right next door, but I could tell that parking could be a challenge if busy. We started with the garlic edamame and walnut shrimp. I came back for a 2nd time, this time on my birthday! Because I remembered loving it so much the first time. However, it was terrible service this time :( and on my birthday nonetheless. So it was very disappointing. There weren't that many people, they sat us down and we hoped to get taken care of quick. Went on a Thursday night and it wasn't busy. Pork buns were pretty good and sweet. Spicy wontons were my favorite but the pan fried beef ones were not that great. This place seems to have a lot of reviews on yelp so I had it bookmarked and was pretty excited to come. Unfortunately, it was somewhat disappointing. First and foremost, it's located on a corner of a busy street and difficult to find parking. As far as I know it was all street parking. Inside ambience is cute, has a traditional Asian feel and is dimly lit. Also has a full bar. Ordered a bunch of food, including fried pork dumplings, and the rainbow dumpling roulette, both which were very disappointing. As you can see from the picture of the rainbow dumplings were dry and not juicy like soup dumplings should be. Scallion pancake and string beans were oily. Best part was the crab and shrimp fried dumplings. Those were delicious. Their egg tarts were also great. Waiter was kind enough to give us sweet pork buns and two extra egg tarts, which was very much appreciated. I was looking for something light for lunch since I was still a little full from my dinner from the night before. I forgot Bao was near the area and I wanted to try this place from the reviews. I was skeptical at first due to the location. I wouldn't think I would say 'Hey let's get dim sum in WeHo' especially when you have OC and Westminister. I really enjoyed the hot and sour soup. It had a good spicy kick and not much of the sour taste. The broth had a good color and the right thickness. The hot and sour soup is definitely authentic. Don't skip this if you dine here. The shui mai is packed with pork. It definitely exceeded expectations and can go head to head with other good dim sum places. The har gow is made of a thicker layer so it doesn't break easily when you pick it up. The thick layer did not take away the flavor of the shrimp and filling. The soup dumpling is a hit or miss for me at any dim sum location. It's either the outer layer is too soft that it breaks easily or too thick that it takes away from the flavor. The worst is when there isn't enough broth inside the dumpling. For Bao, the outer layer texture was good but unfortunately there were a few that stuck to the foil cup so some of the meat filling fell out. There wasn't much broth in most of the dumpling so I was a little disappointed. I usually put a little vinegar in my broth but there wasn't any at the table. The staff was very helpful and came over a few times so I didn't want him to make another trip for my vinegar request. I love ordering chicken feet when I'm at a dim sum restaurant and some places, the chicken feet lacks the bean sauce or is just meh where it's just too soggy. Bao did a good job with this dish. It had a lot of flavor and was not soggy at all. Definitely get this dish if you like chicken feet. Overall, I give Bao a 3.75. The service was awesome and the food definitely met expectations and really does compete with traditional HK dim sum restaurants. If there was a blind test, I would think the food is from OC area. Only reason I can't give it a higher rating is due to the price. The food was really good but the value to me was not there when dim sum is supposedly a cheap eat. I still think folks should try this place if they are in WeHo and craving for dim sum or something light and do not want to drive to OC. This place is a good alternative. This is located in WeHo so expect parking to be a pain especially during weekends where street parking is hard to find. read more

I had to update my review. I will give the restaurant and improve rating due to stay power and consistently good food. Open coming to this restaurant for it's gotta be more than 10 years. I remember bringing my kids here when they were young and they loved it and that is what matters when you have little toddlers. Well, that was more than 10 years ago and they still love coming to this restaurant. We're always treated warmly by the excellent wait staff and the venue itself is decent nice and comfortable. What is great? Dim Sum all day classic dishes, such as har gao, shu mai, chow fun, chow mein, fried rice, shrimp, wonton, soup, hot and sour soup, sautéed string beans, baby bok choy, radish, cakes, scallion pancakes, the list goes on. Generally, easy parking street parking as well as some to our parking in the residential area. They also do takeout, which is great. I am writing this review as a warning to patrons who have been coming here 10+ years. There are new menus which apparently came with a new way of making Dim Sum. Every dish we ordered tasted totally different from every other time we have been here. Not in a good way. A big red flag was that everything came out at the same time. Nothing tasted fresh. After ordering dim sum, which is typically fast and casual, we waited 45 minutes with no food. At the 30 minute mark, we politely asked for an update. Fifteen minutes later, still nothing. No explanation. Just a half-hearted apology and no sense of urgency. Instead, a random dish we didn't order was dropped off as "compliments from the kitchen." A freebie doesn't fix over an hour of being ignored. We had a hungry 5 year old with us. After a total of about 75 minutes with zero food, we told the waitress we were leaving. Her response? "Ok." That's it. No apology. No attempt to make it right. Just indifference. We even left money on the table, not because anything was earned, but because we have standards, even if this place doesn't. If this is how they operate when the restaurant isn't even busy, I can't imagine how bad it gets when it is. Plenty of other places that actually value their customers. read more

One of my friends recommended this restaurant for our lunch break. We came over here during the week to try out their lunch special. I ordered the orange chicken and my buddies as well. We also got an order of the pan, fried chicken dumplings, and let me just say I am blown away by the quality of the meat and the presentation of the food. Update Review: Came here with a friend after we realized that the wait time for 鼎泰豐 (Din Tai Fung) was 180 minutes (yes, 3 whole hours) on a Saturday night. The experience here was JUST AS GOOD as you would have gotten at 鼎泰豐 (Din Tai Fung) but with a lot less of a wait time. I went to Bao Dim Sum House with my friend for a cute celebration. There are not many Dim Sum locations in this area so we thought to check it out! 7/10 Atmosphere- Cozy, sit-down experience that feels a bit more formal than traditional Dim Sum locations. I thought the items were priced a tad high, leaning on the higher-end compared to other dumpling locations.
