Pho was bomb. Been looking for a good pho place in Berkeley because I heard the ones closest to campus aren't the best. The broth had a lot of depth and the portions were great! Our waiter was so nice and he was all by himself when we came (right when they opened). We got to sit outside and it was a beautiful morning so I loved it. this place is another hole in the wall restaurant off telegraph. Best for takeout, limited outdoor seating only! Hands down best viet food I've had in Berkeley so far. The portions are great and makes the price worth it. I ordered the chicken vermicelli, which is a go to order since it's relatively consistent wherever I go. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. My friends got other vermicelli variations and they all looked great too! We sat outside and our food came out in a decent amount of time. First impressions: no indoor seating but around 8 tables available outside. Restaurant is on a corner lot on a busy street, luckily most of the seating is on the much quieter side street. Neighborhood is vibrant, foot traffic minimal, mostly take out. Highlights: Server greeted us at the counter to take our order, directed us to find a seat outside, checked if outdoor only was OK. He brought our food out in less than 5 min. One order of Pho and one chicken Banh Mi. Good portions for the price, fresh ingredients, not over seasoned. Overall impression: Great option for a quick bite, favors take out due to lack of seating. Dine in works if the weather is nice, which a lot of the time it is in this area. I really enjoy this restaurant, so much so that I have ordered from them a few times now. Their ingredients are super fresh and the portions are very generous. Their Grilled Shrimp Spring Rolls, Fried Egg Rolls, and Shredded Chicken Pho are really good (the roasted chicken pho is good too, but I prefer their shredded chicken which surprisingly isn't dried out to oblivion - it definitely is one of my most ordered items from this spot). I tried their Grilled Pork Sandwich today and unfortunately it was not good at all compared to other places I have had this sandwich at and not something I would order again. The bread really is what killed the sandwich for me. It didn't have a crispy exterior which is a quality I love in this type of sandwich and was rather dense vs. being airy. I get it that I likely sound super picky, but I have had some amazing banh mi sandwiches in my lifetime thus far and this was just not one of them. The bread's density really overpowers the ingredients in it. The pickled carrots also didn't seem to be pickled long enough as their flavor was rather flat and sweet with little to no acidity. Overall this is a great restaurant that I will continue to visit especially for their shredded chicken pho. read more

Got my usual phở tái bò viên (rare beef and meatballs), the chicken vermicelli, and the humongous spring roll ! The spring roll usually comes cut up into smaller spring rolls, but we asked for the whole thing just because lols. The pho here is very flavorful and is one of my favorites so far in the bay fs. They have a variety of options on their menu and I definitely want to come back to try the others. The servers are very welcoming, funny, and answered every question we had!! How it works here is you order and pay up front and there is seating outdoors on the side of the restaurant. It's literally a hole in the wall. The kids devoured their chicken soup, which was LOADED with chicken. Next time I'd get extra noodles. The bahnmi was overflowing with yumminess. Not bad but not the best. Not gonna lie; I really miss Tony and Mai Bahn Mi (the old bahn mi spot that was here before Phosho Dough). But sometimes, good things have to come to an end. After Mai Bahn Mi closed, the building was vacant for a minute. When I found out that another Bahn Mi spot was taking their place, I was actually pretty excited about it. There aren't many bahn mi spots in this particular area, and I had been craving for a while now. I was hungry one day but couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. Saw this place while I was driving down Telegraph and decided to pay them a visit. They're basically operating out of the doorway due to COVID (no indoor seating). It's always been a super tiny place, so I can understand that. I ordered at the door and they told me that it would be ready in about 10 minutes. Their prices are higher than the previous banh mi place, but I know that times have changed and operating costs have increased since then. I ordered the lemongrass beef bahn mi. The first thing that ran through my mind after he handed me the sandwich was "damn, that looks small". But after I unwrapped it, I realized that this thang was stuffed with beef! There's definitely no shortage of meat in the beef sandwich. My issue is with the quality of the beef that I received. First off, it was mad fatty and it felt like I kept on biting into gristle. Secondly, the meat was so tough! I like my beef tender and this was not that. On top of this, they put very little veggies inside. The veggies are one of the best elements of a banh mi in my opinion. And with the lack of veggies, the poor meat quality was very exposed. No problems with the bread however, which was fresh and crispy. So yeah, not the worst that I've had but most certainly not the best. Maybe I just received a bad grade of beef, but for my first time visit, it was a bit underwhelming for me. Hopefully I'll have a much different experience next time around. read more

I've never even bothered to order something else on their menu (although I've heard from friends good things about their pho) because I know their grilled pork sandwich is going to be so dependably good. We ordered to-go for lunch and tried the lemongrass beef pho and the pho with sliced beef and both were so good. We definitely liked the lemongrass beef better though as it was much more flavorful. My reviews of more than less than a year should be of the San Pablo site. A few weeks ago I went with two friends to dine in. They had the beef soup and they said "delicious ". I had a vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and extra jalapeno peppers. OH YUM and much too much so brought home and enjoyed the next day! The dine in is clean and tables are nicely spaced especially with COVID still around and I'm old so a concern. Thank to this restaurant as my friends and I lost time and were there for almost two hours. The folks were attentive the whole time with water and NEVER gave us the eye to leave. read more
