14. Spring Rolls
Joseph N.

Craved pho and ordered delivery via DoorDash. Got the "Real Pho." It was delicious and satisfying -- and was some of the best pho delivery experience I've had. It came hot, and with ample broth. We still heated it up a bit since we had rare beef on the side. Solids (noodles, beef, bean sprouts, herbs) all separated nicely. It was my first time having pho here and it was quite good. The broth was full of flavor and totally hit the spot. The beef, noodles, everything else was solid. Will make this a go-to spot for pho delivery. We also got spring rolls. The rolls themselves were good, but we weren't happy with the sauce. It was a little liquidy -- did it have pineapple juice in it? We wished we had the more common hoisin + peanut butter. Next time I'll just make my own hoisin sauce lol. Price seemed high-ish but also standard for the Bay Area. Still worth it given the delicious broth quality and that it came piping hot. Not quite in par with other Viet restaurants closer to San Jose but definitely happy to order the pho here again! One of the solid ones in Oakland.

special vermicelli
Alice H.

We went for lunch to celebrate a coworker's birthday. This time I ordered their Special vermicelli, which comes with shrimps, beef, chicken, imperial rolls, lettuce, mint leaves, cucumber, bean sprouts, pickled carrot, topped with green onion and peanut, and served with fish sauce. It tasted really good and was loaded with fresh greens. The vermicelli had a great texture as well. Sometimes fish sauce can be too strong for me, but theirs tasted great; it did not have a strong, funky smell, which was a big plus for me. Their Thai tea was excellent. I prefer drinks that aren't too sweet, and they nailed the sweetness level. On top of that, the portion was really generous!

Pho (rare beef, tripe, brisket, and beef balls)

Our HA flight had a mechanical problem just after all the passengers have boarded. There were no other flights that we could get on to arrive before port of call so we had to stay one night then take the earliest flight out to the next port to join our cruise. HA put us up a night with Courtyard at Downtown Oakland with 3 meal vouchers and a round trip Lyft to hotel and back to airport. All restaurants are after security checks, so it took a little longer to get the free meals. I used both lunch and dinner vouchers to get a bigger lunch. Dinner I was thinking about exploring the downtown a little. Google search for pho gave Binh Minh Quan and we like the pick your topping option for pho. My 4-topping Pho - rare beef, beef balls, brisket, and tripe. Wish the broth was pippin hot to thoroughly cook the rare beef. My daughter's 1-topping Pho - brisket. Mdaughter likes her 1-topping pho. It's pretty clean overall other than a few flies hovering around the entrance. They at least didn't come close to the table. Not busy on Saturday night around 6pm and it's 7 mins walk from the Courtyard.

6. Combo Rice Plate

I ordered the combo plate to go. The combo rice plate was really good, and the portion was huge. I got the pork chop and beef. The grilled pork was super fresh, tender, and flavorful. The salad also went really well with the meat and rice.

Roasted catfish

I come here at least once a month. I crave their "beef in aromatic lot leaf" and imperial beef sausage - the sauce is to die for. This place is such a treasure, it reminds me of Anh Hoang in Milpitas but less crowded. Things I get: Beef in aromatic lot leaf: 10/10 meat is so flavorful and it's served with veggies to wrap them. Then you can't forget the sauce Imperial beef sausage: 11/10 same as above Banh xeo: 7.5/10 sometimes it's perfect sometimes it's a little too stuffed with filling but overall really good. Crispy and full of deliciousness Roasted catfish: 8/10 I've had this a few times and it's so good sometimes are better than others. I would def try if you've never had it before it comes with veggies that you wrap the fish in and dip There are lots of other things that are great here (like the rice dishes). But I would say those are my favorites.

The REAL PHO (Beef rib, flank steak and tripe)

Food is delicious and service staff is attentive and very friendly. The decor is nice and woodsy and very clean! Nice little find while in the area. Lots of options on the menu and not just the typical pho and rice plates either! Will definitely go back!

Banh Mi Pork

Awesome Banh Mi! Meat was super fresh, bread was still moist plus their mayo was flavorful. Ordered for takeout and it was ready once I arrived. Ambiance is fast casual with lots of dine in seating.

Menu as of Feb 28, 2025 (Page 7 out of 11)
Kai L.

The pho here is hit or miss. I ordered the real pho and it was missing tripe and rare beef. It had this other beef with hard fat on it, didn't look like flank or brisket from the menu. It can be really hard to get the meat off the big rib that comes with the pho, it's like glued to the bone and not exactly tender. The other menu items look pretty decent though, like the Bún Đặc Biệt and combo rice place. I don't have a lot to complain about in terms of service, but I'd like there to be a napkin dispenser on the table. Eating noodle soup can get messy and require multiple mouth wipes. We were left with one and had to ask for more. I often come here during lunch, sometimes theres a lot of people and sometimes it's as empty as can be. There's no music in the background, there's tables that can seat 6-8, and there's a discrete bathroom upstairs. Among the Vietnamese restaurants in or around oakland chinatown, I think it's one of the best.

Update, 02/10/25: *DO NOT ORDER VIA DOORDASH. Felt hopeful, and wanted to give them another try. Don't even bother if you're ordering through DOORDASH. You'll get scammed into the smallest portions, with leftover quality meat. (See last photo.) Owners, you have lousy morals. DoorDash shouldn't be an option if you're giving small, leftovers for the price you charge.

Tien N.

I got the appetizer sampler here and it was huge, lots of delicious pieces to eat and choose from. I got the rice plate combo and it was decent, meat was lacking in quantity and quality was mediocre. This is also based on my comparison of San Jose rice plates though. Service was quick and fast here. Staff are friendly. The place is quite spacious and clean. Apparently my friends told me I ordered the wrong items and their fish dishes with rice paper is bomb. Next time I will try it. Overall positive experience and worth another try.

Roast catfish. Please order ahead of time or you will be waiting. This was bomb.

I love this place. Love all the dishes. Especially the fresh wrap your own spring rolls. The sauce!!!!!! Delicious

I've had enough pho…read morealong the west coast to know what great pho should taste like and I haven't had the best luck in the Bay. So, the verdict? Extremely impressed. This is already on my top five list in a single visit. Went for the basics: beef pho, and salad roll with tofu. I was initially put off by the short menu and few options to add toppings (I didn't see any tendon or tripe for example), and worried it would be too bland or too sweet--but it was not. The broth was deeply flavorful and more savory. Meats were generous and meatballs were exceptional, maybe the best I've had. The basil and sprouts were garden fresh, and unusually, the rice noodles were exceptional, not at all soft or pressed together. I could genuinely taste the love here. It extended to the salad rolls which were generously portioned and used lightly fried tofu which I prefer. One additional note about the broth. It's a richer style than I normally like so I couldn't drink it to the last drop, but I can't fault its great flavor. The service was above average, with a spirited vibe. Loved everything, will be back to try more on the menu.

The pho was solid, with a clear, deeply flavored broth and noodles that were slightly al dente, which I personally enjoyed. That said, for $20, it didn't feel especially memorable. The crispy spring rolls were fine, but I prefer the ones I make at home, so I'd probably skip them next time. I was especially excited to try the Vietnamese beef carpaccio, and the presentation was beautiful. The beef was fresh, evenly sliced, and topped with baby greens, onions, crispy fried onions, and edible flowers. Unfortunately, the sauce leaned far too citrusy for my taste and overpowered the flavors I wanted to come through, such as fish sauce, vinegar, and sugar. I also think a little more fried onion and garlic would have made the dish more flavorful and satisfying. Overall, we had a decent meal with both highlights and misses. They also offer dishes like bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc, which may be worth trying on a future visit.

We ordered the tofu bahn mi, tofu, veggies and mushroom vermicelli and Vietnamese pancake with shrimp. They were all amazing. The tofu in the banh mi was stirred fried w/ mushrooms not fried like how I'm used to. So it was a little different but very tasty. My fiancé had the vermicelli bowl which he said was pretty good with all the stirred fried tofu, veggies and mushrooms. What was surprising the most was the Vietnamese pancake. It was so good that I would come back for just this appetizer. It has a crunchy texture on the outside, but the inside was so creamy. Wrap that with a lettuce and dip in the fish sauce and wow! My mouth was happy. Service here is top notch! The server was super attentive and he knew just when we needed more napkins and more water. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon for those pancake!

This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..

We ordered the wicked buns, Saigon give you wings, garlic noodle and the bo luc lac. The food was out very quickly. Wicked Buns: The wicked buns were quite good. Truly cannot go wrong with some fried bao buns! Chicken Wings: We really enjoyed the chicken wings as well. The fish sauce gives the wings a nice sweetness and makes them quite addicting. Garlic Noodles: The garlic noodles had a nice char flavor to it. We could see them set it on fire from the bar, although we felt that the garlic noodles could have had a bit more salt and garlic in them. The shrimp also tasted frozen but they were still good. Bo Luc Lac: We enjoyed the bo luc lac as well, it was cooked well and quite tender. It was very flavorful to the point it made us wish we had ordered the dirty rice with it. Cocktails: For drinks I asked the bartender what he recommended and offered to make me something. It wasn't off-menu, but he made the Pillow Talks which had gin, calamansi and egg white in it. It had a nice flavor profile and balance and creaminess to the drink. I also ordered the Pandanmonium which is a pandan old fashioned which I really enjoyed. The drinks were quite fairly priced as well which I really appreciated. Overall, I think the portion sizes can be a little small for the price, but the food is delicious and great. The drinks are also great and I would definitely come back for them!

I've tried quite a lot of bún chả, and I could detect the marginal increase in quality here compared to other places. The phở-nominal cocktails and fish sauce ice cream were also delectable. I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu.
