I've always wanted to go to Greece. Granted, since I'm still in college and all my money goes to paying tuition, the chances of me going anytime soon are none. Nonetheless, when I heard about Pi Bakerie, I figured that if I couldn't go to the actual country, I might as well go try some authentic desserts being busted out by guys with accents. Walking in, I noticed how packed it was during the lunch rush. I wanted to try a pie, but my goal that day was to have some pastries that I hadn't been able to find in the fourth months I was studying in California. Pi Bakerie does a good job showing off their goods in displays lining the left wall, as well as the pull out drawers underneath. It's New York City, and I can appreciate any shop utilizing their space to the fullest. On this trip, I knew that I had to try the baklava. The first Mediterranean love of my life, I craved the syrup, the candied nuts, and the crispy phyllo cracking in my mouth. I decided to get both the chocolate and traditional versions. Biting into the chocolate, I took note of how it was a bit chewier than I would have liked, but I liked the combination of the nuts with the cocoa flavor. It was a good spin from the traditional baklava that I was used to. Sampling the original, I found that I actually liked it more, and I ended up licking the syrup off of my fingers, sad when it was entirely gone. When my friend who I had gone with finished up, I noticed that she filled her entire box up with Greek Wedding Cookies. Her only reason: "they looked good." Luckily, she let me try one, and they truly were! While they seemed similar to Mexican wedding cookies, I could taste a variation in the flavor profile that pleased my palette. I could totally see why she wanted an entire container. I ended up spending $2.75 on both pieces of baklava. While both were delectable, I wish that they could have been bigger pieces, as I was able to finish both in only two small bites. Still, I know that if I ever need my Greek dessert fix, Pi Bakerie is a solid option for me. read more

I'm Greek and its very hard to find authentic Greek bakeries in Manhattan that reach my expectations but when I left PI I was a very happy customer. My favorite bakery in Soho hands down. I lived across the street for two years and they have always been so nice. Food is amazing; employees are amazing. They even once had a vegan dish that apparently wasn't as popular, but I respect them trying and they should keep trying to add vegan options. I know tons of vegans who would go here if they had more options. I would've eaten more here if they had more vegan options as well since my diet is mostly vegan. Stopped by here on Pi Day 2015. They were celebrating Pi Day by offering samples of their spanakopita and tyropita. The staff were super friendly and even offered to let us sample their salads. The bakery has enough seating for 16 and the amount of natural light that filters into the restaurant makes it very inviting. There was even a DJ playing hit songs. Ultimately, we purchased spanakopita and baklava. The spanakopita was very flaky and delicious. They were out of pistachio baklava, so I asked for a mix of almond, walnut and chocolate baklava. They were more dense than the ones I've had in the past but nonetheless perfect when paired with their excellent coffee. I'll definitely go back to try their scrumptious salads and sandwiches. read more

Yo as tourists on a weird schedule because our body clocks were off this place hit the spot almost every afternoon in Soho when we needed more than a snack but also wanted to have room for something heavier later. Grab a couple small salads and couple baked items and talk to the locals about the next Halloween parade. read more

There is no way I can explain through written word how wonderful this gem of a bakery is... First off the decor... It's all from Greece! Everything has been shipped and selected from Greece! The shelves, the counter the chairs, the art, the staff ;) "Who cares about decor!" I hear you scream. Well... It's the first thing you see or notice when walking in, as well as all the Greek guys smashing plates and shouting OPA! - Jk. It's like a small part of Greece found itself chilling in SoHo. But the next more important thing you notice, are the all the lovely smells emanating from this food heaven. Everything is freshly made on premises, and whats great is that some standard Greek fare has been given a modern twist, a thing Pi Bakerie does oh so well. Chocolate Baklava, I'll be having some of that! The Yogurt with Baklava and cherries mixed and mashed together is one of my favorite desserts in the city now. Forget Cronuts! This is where it's at! The Galatopoureko (custard pie with filo pastry) is to die for made me look like a BOSS when I turned up with it at a family event. The spanakopita (spinach pie) is the best I've had in the city. Pastichio - fugghedaboutit! Do yourself a favor and go try all of the above. This is the only authentic un-gimmicky quality Mediterranean bakery outside of Astoria. The prices are beyond reasonable and the staff and atmosphere is fantastic. Restaurants/cafes come and go in this city, but I genuinely hope this place is here for many years to come. Who knew there would be a Greek bakery in Soho that is this authentic and this special. My go to lunch spot when I am in the neighborhood. We threw a big party the day after our wedding this summer, and Pi provided all of the food. They customized the menu, delivered everything with a beautiful presentation, and all was so delicious we had NO leftovers. Would have been the same if we ordered twice as much food. This is a small, very clean cafe that is probably the best bakery of its type that I have ever been to. If you love Greek food, this is the place for you. If you love French bakeries, this is the place for you. If you don't like Greek, this is still the place for you. If you don't like Greek, or French, then I am not so sure. My wife and I each had the most amazing Geek yogurt with peaches and baklava mixed in--think of it as a guilt-free, healthy dessert. She had an apple tart, and I had a croissant. We both had coffee (mine was a latte) and fresh squeezed orange juice. The service was very friendly by very clean-cut people. We didn't use it, but the internet was available. There was seating inside and outside. If we lived here, I would eat at this place at least once a week and maybe twice a day. Five stars only because more are not available. read more

I had the most delicious almond croissant here! Very unexpected for a Greek bakery. It was so fresh yet not flakey but had this wonderful honey glaze on top. Accompanied by a velvety latte and corner window seat made it a perfect late morning bite. Find it hard to believe this is an offshoot of Artopolis*...The pound cake sample was bland, but I went with the Three Nut Cookies (their version of kourabiedes) anyway. The original place carries a full line of Greek baked goods, though the specialty is the powdered sugar-dusted nut cookies called kourambiethes. Lots of Greek inspired items. Behind the counter are other more elaborate selections. Have tried Almond croissant, and Ham and Cheese croissant as well. All were very good, although a tad pricey. Recommend you try the items by the pound first as it will not set you back a significant amount of $ for what I feel are some high quality baked items.
