We were speaking to some fellow travelers at breakfast and they shared the name of this new Roman food experience. We saw the pictures and immediately made a reservation for lunch. The menu is very diverse and creative. The open kitchen provides a dinner and show experience. Each dish was beautifully composed however a few areas need improvement. Our pastas courses looked beautiful yet the salt level was extreme which made it not enjoyable. The Mediterranean Sushi dish was very good however the rice was lacking the perfection one would expect. Veal Fillet was perfect !! The focaccia with Burrata and Anchovies was amazing !! This place is so cute and we're so glad we went! We were going to get seated where all the tables were, but we opted to sit at the counter. We're so happy we did because it was so fun watching the chefs cook! It was also nice because we got to see all the excitement in the kitchen. They all work so well together and it's amazing the details that go into plating each dish - makes me want to be a chef! Since the mister and I don't have big tummies to eat as much as we want, we didn't get to try too much, but all the things we picked were delish! We started with a simple mixed green salad with pink lady apples, honey and pistachios - so refreshing and lovely. Obviously we had to get pasta, so we got the smoked spaghetti and have never tasted anything like it, and loved it! I was a bit apprehensive when it came to ordering the veal and tuna, but I'm so glad we did because that was my favorite! To end on a beautiful note, we had the best tiramisu! This is the me of the best meals I have ever eaten. The food is immaculate, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere gorgeous. It was the only place I went two twice on my 5 day trip to Rome. The tiramisu is a must get (best I've ever had) and you have to have the zibibo dessert wine with it (or anything the sommelier recommends - he's awesome!) My experience at Pianostrada was the best of our Roman trip. From the décor to the service and the food, everything felt authentic, all dishes we tried were tasty and seating at the bar to watch a all women team make pastas all night was the cherry on top. I spent my last two night watching those women cook 4 different plates of pasta. My favorite was the ravioli, simply amazing but everything else was almost just has perfect! The focaccia Bianca as an appetizer was devine. Their Sauvignon blanc is fresh and fruity, I recommend. Extra points for a great Espresso Martini and inventive desserts! Best food in Rome for me! I had read about this place on yelp, but they have since moved from Trastevere to over the bridge where now it's a sit-down restaurant with service. We liked this place so much when we visited for lunch that we decided to have dinner here on our last night in Rome. The place is great they have a set menu which includes delicious focaccia- highly recommend (and all of their bread is homemade), and a street food section with paninis. Then they have a main dish menu which tends to change every few days. We ordered the focaccia with prosciutto and fig compote - incredible! And as a main dish I had the spaghetti vongole - also really great. We sat outside in the garden which was nice and romantic. They also have an area inside where you can sit at the bar and see them prepping food which looked really fun. This is perfect for a quick breakfast or lunch, as it's a tiny tiny bar and seating is limited. You can drop yourself at the bar, probably squeezing in between two others, but no worries - it's designed that way. Therefore, great place to go to by yourself. They have a few high tables and seating for 2- / 4-people, but prepare yourself to eat elbow-to-elbow. Food is fan-tas-tic. They have SUCH an extensive menu! And it doesn't matter what you get; all focacce is amazing (they make it themselves), pasta is great, for dessert: go for the panna cotta. The best place to eat in Trastevere hands down. This small and packed panini shop is the freshest, most delicious food around. Not to mention run by some of the toughest girls in the business. The small shop is decked out in feminist quotes and the women behind the counter demand your respect. You must try their focaccia on top of getting a panini. After trying many of the panini, the pane mare is my favorite by far. The fish is perfectly light, and the bread is the most amazing consistency. A must! read more

Pianostrada has outdoor seating in a lovely heated interior garden, so we were able to enjoy our meal outside in February. Our table also allowed us to see into the kitchen to watch the chefs at work. This lunch was one of the more memorable meals we enjoyed in Rome. Everything about this place is perfection. The food is beyond (aubergine pie was the greatest), the staff was so wonderful (I've read some negative reviews but that was not my experience. I can see how someone might be a little insecure and perceive the staff as being snotty, but IMO they are not.), the LOCATION is really cool. It is down a little alley, almost tucked away. WONDERFUL experience!! The "Sandwich" with mortadella, pecorino, pistachio cream, and arugula is out of this world. It comes on bread baked fresh in the restaurant; it is unique and so incredible. The decor is so quaint and eclectic, with fresh flowers on each table. The pizzele are small but the sauce is so good. As a starter we got a variety of breads, we didn't like two of them but they were very fresh. We just got water but the wine list was extensive. So, I came here on a Saturday night after attending (and pigging out at) a food fest by the soccer stadium. Don't look at me that way! I was still working off the trauma of being terrorized in Florence. I'm an emotional eater. Lucky for me, I have chef friends in Rome who know where to go and when. So even though we were full, the night was young and we wanted to go to where the people were. So, we came to PL -- and we saw all the people. Much like many places in Rome, PL is small (or, maybe Americans are just large. It could be a combo). You get in where you fit in. Again, lucky for me I was with a regular who was in the industry. After my buddy sweet talked one of the ladies, magically, two chairs appeared alongside the wall. I don't recall seeing many tables. People posted up on the periphery of the restaurant and ordered wonderful things to eat -- either from a menu or from looking up to see what was written on the wall. I believe a mother-daughter combo of some sort is in charge of the goodness. If not a mother-daughter combo, it's definitely an all female affair. If that sort of thing gets your motor running, there you go. The placed was packed - ass to elbows from the door to the back of the build out. PL is popular and there's a reason for that. Despite being full, it's rude to go to a restaurant (especially one run by a friend) and not pig out. That meant that fourth meal was in full effect. Don't worry; I'm an American. I'm well-versed in the fourth meal. Starting off with white wine (watching our figures, natch) we settled in to a ragu (atop spaghetti), foccacia, prosciutto, and one of the biggest (and most decadent) burgers I've ever had. I was in physical pain by the time I huffed and puffed to get to the end of my meal. I was also falling asleep (remember I'd just escaped from Florence and had only enjoyed a quick nap in 36+ hours). But the food was so good, the company was great and I didn't want to miss a second of the scene I found myself in. OMG, I am SO glad that we fixed that mistake and decided to go! This place is an amazing gem tucked away on a quiet corner in the heart of Trastevere. We liked it so much that we went back again the next day to make it our final meal in Rome. First of all, you have to get a foccacia - No. Matter. What. It's worth it. Just do it. We stuck to sandwiches while there, but they do have other items on the menu. All of the ingredients are incredibly fresh, down to the bread that they make daily. The two standouts of the 4 we tried were the Pane Mare and the Pane Alici del Cantabria. The Pane Prosciutto Mangalitza was also super yummy as well. We tried their E Poi salad and their special tiramisu - both good, but the sandwiches and bread are really the stars at this place. The food is wonderful. Since being in Rome, I've dined here twice in 3 days. This time, I ordered a dessert I wasn't fond of. I asked the server if I could switch it out for another dessert at no charge. He said yes, that it was not a problem. Another waiter comes by and takes my new dessert order. At the end of the meal they bring me my check with both desserts on it. I bring it to the third waiters attention (since we had 3 waiters it seemed). She said she'd check. She came back and rudely told me she wouldn't remove it since we ate it. I explained I had one bite of the first dessert and then I explained my conversation with the other waiter regarding switching the desserts at no charge. She said she'd go talk to him. One of the other waiters then came over and said he never said that. I told him I understood , it was the other waiter. He went to talk to the female waitress. She came over and told me they wouldn't remove the charge, I was lying about the whole thing and "that was that" and walked away. All of this after my card had been charged. Management wouldn't come and speak to me either. Terrible service. So basically I was told by a staff member I could switch desserts since I didn't eat the first one at no charge, but then was charged for both and called a liar. The WORST customer service. As a business owner, I'd never treat patrons like this. Horrible experience. . They should be ashamed to treat patrons this way. Especially since the first meal I spent $86 by myself and on the second meal, over $100 with my significant other and I. I'll never be back. read more

This was one of the cutest, most romantic outdoor garden spaces I've had the pleasure of dining in. We didn't have reservations but at 7PM on a Sun, they let us have a table for 2 hours and we savored every moment of it. The specials menu was not in English but our server was nice enough to patiently translate for us. The special carpaccio of the day was one of the best things I've ever tasted: bright, refreshing, and delicate. The Peace salad was also delicious & refreshing (although we would have preferred more greens and less turkey, but we may be in the minority on that). The homemade pasta was fresh and cooked to near perfection, although the sauce was a little too rich. My friend found her pasta dish (I think it was a lemon linguine) overwhelming and heavy halfway through (so I helped finish her dish) but she really enjoyed it at first. I loved my dish (octopus linguine) and felt the same way but still still enjoyed every last bite. We joked about how we are American and wouldn't use the full 2 hours allotted, but we shared a bottle of wine and appreciated the entire time slot. :-) read more

This restaurant is small inside with limited seating but the women who cook here create the best stuff I tasted in Rome. I noticed it from the outside with all the fresh herbs growing in the planters outside.....that was my first clue. Anyway, they marry a lot of flavors well in the concoctions they come up with. read more

Waited a long time for a seat. As a solo diner, I kept getting bumped by larger groups. Given that it's really bar seating, this is a very unfriendly seating policy. Finally I complained and they decided to ask two people newly seated if they would give up their seat for me. Didn't make me feel very good that they unseated two people. A fair seating policy should have allowed me to sit first as I was there first (its not like I was taking a table of 4). Based on their seating policy, I would never be seated unless a single showed up or unless I was the only person waiting. Not very likely. So I walked out. Maybe I will be brave and try again. This is a place that should cater to solo diners not make them feel they would only get seated if there was nobody in line. Came back, welcomed, food great.
