They have lots of options on there menu they even have a vegan and kids menu. I ordered gnocchi with ragu off the vegan menu and it was outstanding. My wife ordered lasagna with a cocktail and cannoli for dessert. She enjoyed everything. We both saw other menu items we wanted to try. Maybe next time we can bring the kids. We came here after a long beach day in La Jolla and decided to try this place out after many people had recommended it. It did not disappoint! Our server was so lovely and accommodating to any questions we had about the menu. We ended up ordering the Cotto e Funghi (mushroom pizza), Lasagna and Gnocchi, all of which were incredible. We were seated right away on a bit of a chilly night, but the host quickly turned the heater up & took off the evening chill. At one point a slight mist started falling & they did everything they could to ensure we were comfortable, even popping up umbrellas around the tables exposed. We started with a glass of wine & a beer & ordered a couple appetizers. The calamari was perfectly crisp & tasty. I LOVE the addition of zucchini & artichokes, the latter were a lovely crunch surprise! I even love that it's gluten free (which I am supposed to be). We also had the caprese, light & bright with perfect flavor....it was served over a bed of arugula, which I love, but would have liked a few extra leaves of basil. Hubby ordered a pizza, Cotto e Funghi. He is a bit of a pizza connoisseur & had nothing bad to say about it. The pizza was crisp & cooked perfectly! I had the squid Ink tagliolini with shrimp. Wow, this dish was perfectly al dente & bursting with flavor. Just the right amount of heat & not only did the food come out steaming, it stayed hot until the very last bite! Planned the day to take my dogs here so I didn't feed them too much and took em for a nice long walk before coming here since the place is dog friendly. So they were parched and hungry by get by the time I got there. When I got here the vibe was very nice but then it all turned to poo. We were sat down right away and ordered maybe 5 min after. The food took over 50 minutes to get but what made me more upset is the dog food took over an hour even after they said it would be right out when we received our food. I watched 4 new tables sit down,order ,eat their appetizers then entrees and relax all before still getting a small bowl of dog food. The food I ordered is probably great but I couldn't give you an honest review due to the bad experience I received. I even asked to speak to a manager to my server Ren who seemed to be upset that we asked a few times when the dog food would be ready. The manager never came and I gave up after 20 min. I shouldn't have tipped tbh but the other waiters were very nice. I just hope management sees this and makes sure this never happens again. read more

The pasta dishes were tasty but the presentation was dull. It was very middle of the road. The service was slow. It was a Saturday night, but nonetheless it felt slow. One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. Owner is actually Italian. Lasagna is perfect and lets the meat flavor actually shine through, it's not all drowning in tomato sauce. The tagliatelli is even more amazing. The ragu flavor sticks to the noodle - which is rare. The duck is not gamey at all. We also really enjoyed the ricotta cheesecake - our eyes rolled in the back of our head, that's how good it was. We appreciate the attention to detail and fresh ingredients- too many Italian restaurants are lazy and have everything canned or prepackaged- this is not one of them. Stumbled on this place during the weekend lunch hour only because there wasn't a line out the door... SO glad we did. We got a table right away on the spacious patio. Marcela was our server, very nice, very attentive. My friend and I took advantage of the Endless Mimosas and shared a Margherita Pizza. I reserved a spot for dinner at around 6PM. My partner and I were able to park right in front of the restaurant. Glowing dim lights hanging from the front patio, the restaurant has a few small steps. You're greeted immediately with a smiley gentleman. The spacing for the tables was separated to ensure social distancing and everything was outside. I had only seen this place from the outside and wanted to check it out. I didnt realize they had an even bigger space deeper into the restaurant. I was ecstatic to see that this place was bigger. The decor and the lighting really made this place both fun but also a bit classy. It had touches of shells to remind us of the nearby ocean. We sat down and were quickly given a run through of some of the highlighted items on their menu. The server(s) were very friendly. I feel like we had 2-3 rotating ones throughout the evening. I had the tagliatelle bolognese and my partner had the Gnocchi ala bolognese. We also both got a drink: moscow mule and I had the pear white wine. I cant remember the names but they were on the special. We also ordered some appetizers: bruschetta and a caprese! They gave us some bread with a tomato-ish base sauce. The food came at the perfect timing. We had another person bring them out and described them to use as he put them down. The aromas and the texture of this dish looked so appetizing. We took our first bites and it was absolutely heavenly. The tomato sauce was the right acidity and right flavor. The pasta itself was at perfectly made; it was definitely not just some box pasta. The servers checked up on us throughout the evening-it wasn't overbearing but enough to feel the attention was of good service. We decided to treat ourselves to a Galentines brunch on our way back home to L.A. after a weekend in TJ. I made a reservation here after finding them on Yelp. My friends requested to dine in this area. I chose well. A group of people tried to walk in in front of us, but they were turned away since they had no reservation. We were led out back and seated in a cozy corner. Shortly after we put our drink order in, a woman came over and told us we would be moved since a wedding party was going to start prepping the area for dinner. We got moved by the kitchen area shortly before our food arrived. The food was amazing. We ate every single thing on our plates. I forgot what the other pasta was called with tomatoes, but wow - what a dish. I liked it more than mine. We ended up dipping bread to the soup part of my pasta - a good time. Since quarantine, I've barely dined at restaurants. While filtering outdoor seating on Yelp, I found Piazza 1909 and easily made same-day reservations. In terms of safety measures, the host took our temperatures and had us scan a QR code for the menu. Every employee was friendly and wearing masks correctly (lol when someone wears a mask that covers their mouth and not their nose??) I loved the layout and atmosphere of the restaurant: spacious, perfectly lit, and well-decorated. Our server was very attentive and quickly brought out complimentary fresh foccacia with roasted red pepper dip. They packaged the balsamic vinegar and olive oil into cute disposable containers. We ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese, Gnocchi Pesto, Crudo E Rucola Pizza, and Calamari Fritti. Everything was delicious, and the calamari was my favorite! This small Italian restaurant was simple and classy. It had a beautiful atmosphere and we had a wonderful dining experience. Our server was very polite and inviting, and was kind enough to walk us through the menu and offer her recommendations. Needless to say, I was very happy with the options she pointed out. Starting off, we tried the Tris di Bruschetta con Burrata. The three different kinds of bruschetta was so exciting and would definitely recommend this as an appetizer. The ricotta was exquisite and delicious. Perfect for two! For my main course, I decided on the Ravioli di Margo. I honestly finished this quite quickly and was craving more. Highlight of this dish was the butter sauce and carefully crafted ravioli. To finish off this dinner, we had the ricotta cheese cake which is a must try.
