    Sole Dore'

Tnis might be a "special occasion" place, but I can't help but show up here no matter the occasion, because the service and food are top notch. The calamari crema and sole doré are my standard order. They are among the best tjlgings in all of Tucson, and thats what makes Piazza Gavi a destination, not just a special occasion place.

We have been visiting Gavi's since they made food on Broadway and Pantano many many years ago. Their menu is incredible and so much to choose from. They have a nice bar situated in the center back wall. The have an outdoor area as well but this time we ate inside. I made a reservation via OpenTable to celebrate my husbands birthday. I was surprised how busy they were this time in August on a Friday! Service was excellent, they had many specials not mentioned in their large menu, and server was prompt of providing our drinks, bread and food. Overall and excellent evening! Oh yes the food...scrumptious in every bite! Just delicious and the serving sizes are plenty!! Most have a portion to take home the next day. I had the special stuffed salmon, it was incredible and the side of vegetables were beautifully seasoned and fresh! Truly a gem in Tucson!

Had date night here, a couple weeks back.. and will definitely be back! I made a reservation shortly before arriving and was able to sit within minutes upon arriving on a Friday night around 7PM. It was pretty busy, but still had room for more. It's very moody inside with darker more intimate lighting. Walking up, you see a very well beautiful covered patio to dine on. Inside their tables as well as boot for seating. The menu is large, including pastas, sandwiches, yummy looking salads, pizzas., etc. So there's a lot to choose from. I love that one choosing a pasta, you can also choose the noodle you want in it. I chose a Bolognese ($25) dish upon the service suggestion, and it was good, but I definitely chose the wrong noodle to go with it.. so if you're unsure, it's probably a good idea to ask the server which noodle would go best. We ordered the antipasto appetizer ($23) as well as the Salmon Carpaccio ($23). Both were still plentiful and definitely worth ordering again! They also serve free bread, which, if you ask me as a waste of food since it's served with cold bread and cold butter.. I don't understand my restaurants do this because how are we supposed to wipe this cold hard butter on this hard bread? Anyway, my husband ordered a lobster ravioli ($33), and though he felt it was salty I thought it was good. I definitely want to go back and try more of their menu !

Chicken Formaggio with side of veggies

We came here to celebrate a retirement. I'd called ahead a few days and they basically had to squeeze us in, as they were booked for that evening. They found a table for us indoors, in an area that was a little secluded from the main part. The only negative was that it was pretty noisy indoors, but it beat sitting on the patio on a warm night. We ordered the fried calamari, which was ok. (We got spoiled by the calamari we could get everywhere in Australia, so nothing here is quite as yummy!) Everyone enjoyed their meals, and we all got huge portions. We'll have another meal or two to enjoy another time. I had a dinner salad, which was good. For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Formaggio. It was two big pieces of tender chicken, stuffed with spinach and cheese, with shrimp and artichokes on top. It was all covered with a nice red sauce. It was supposed to come with a side of pasta, but they were happy to sub some mixed veggies for me. We even got a free bowl of ice cream for the retiree! Our waiter, Chris, was great. He got all our orders correct without even writing any of them down. We were able to relax and enjoy our evening. We also got some drinks and the mozzarella marinara during their happy hour before dinner. $3 off appetizers, wine and other drinks.

Went here with some friends on a packed Thursday night, the ambiance was wonderful and the service was quick once we were seated! I got the pumpkin ravioli in spicy crema and have been dreaming about it since- it seems like it's a seasonal special so everyone needs to GO THERE RIGHT NOW and try it!! I truly have never experienced anything like it and all my friends agreed we will be going back very soon and each of us is getting this amazing ravioli!

Excellent pasta as majority is made in-house which really amps up the reason to eat here. Sfoglia with abundant braised threads of pork is outstanding, a mind blowing deep rich red sensation of a sauce backed with saba, a thick balsamic and earthy sliced mushroom. The dandelion greens could go in later as they were overly dark, barely visible wilts that you might otherwise miss but should be the green star power on the eye and variance in texture and flavor further enhancing the dish, but cleaning the plate between us, the obvious table favorite, Sfoglia truly only rubs you right. Food arrived just 15 min later and was piping hot and delicious. The lasagna is a good sized portion (roughly 5x7) and is generously filled with meat. Taste is amazing with medium-firm pasta and a nice crust across the top and sides. The ricotta calzone came with a side of marinara (yay) for dipping as there is no sauce inside. Roughly 2 dozen toppings are available, ranging from $3-$8+. I opted for the meatballs ($8.50) and was slightly disappointed. The meatballs are crumbled within the calzone (understandable) but not pronounced in quantity. I would prefer larger pieces (halves work at this size - after all I ordered meat-ball not meet-ground ;) However, for $8 (a 75% upcharge) my chief gripe is that I was simply expecting more. Next time pepperoni/mushrooms! Ambiance is lovely and waitstaff were awesome -- gracious, knowledgeable about menu specifics, and attentive. Parking is free/easy at this corner of a small strip mall. Can't wait to try their new Detroit menu too! Note: due to Rene's smaller size (less than 10 tables total) and high demand, all reservations (any day) require a credit card to hold. This is entirely understandable as even one no-show is a measurable hit to keeping a full house. I also have kids yet 100% embrace their patio-only policy when with kiddos. This literal mom/pop venue (they have kids too) tries to do the impossible balance between clientele and intimate, high-end dining (we simply accommodate by getting take out when feeding the Whole family ;)

Our server was also tending bar, so he was stretched a bit thin, but overall the service was solid. He happily went back to the kitchen in a couple of questions he couldn't answer, but was overall very knowledgeable. He recommended a white wine made by a relative of the restaurant owner and it was lovely. We started with the octopus. I didn't expect this starter to be cold, but the tender octopus, fingerling potatoes and olives were a great combo in the acidic sauce. Would most certainly order it again. My main was the short rib. Short rib is always a heavy dish, but the vegetable risotto and asparagus helped lighten it a bit and it was tender and delicious. I probably ate 1/3, but I'm not sad to have generous leftovers. My dining companion had the veal, which was also excellent. I finished my meal with the crème caramel, which was very traditional and exactly as expected (which is what I want in a dessert like that). I'm very happy to dine here more often than every ten years.

OK, so I tried to order (4) different bottles of Chardonnay and they were out of three of them. We started with an appetizer of 'calamari' and it came 'burnt' and like rubber. We also ordered their famous Caesar Salad and were never served. We then decided to order a pizza which was served to us cold, uncooked and doughy. The poor wait staff and cooks are not managed correctly and were well over whelmed with no help. When a dining experience is SO excellent in SO many ways, where every little thing goes well, it's…read morea rarity. Let alone a birthday dining experience where you go in with high expectations and can easily be let down when something goes wrong. This was one of the most memorable birthday dinners I've ever had.Vivace did so many things well. Let's start with the fact that not only did they seat us at noon when I'd made a 12:30 reservation (and the place was pretty busy, particularly for a routine Monday afternoon), but pleasantly and at a quiet, roomy 4 person table. And they acknowledged my birthday (not only at the host/hostess station but by the server AND with a delicious dessert)! Our server, Jemeella (I hope I spelled it correctly) was just phenomenal! Such a pleasant disposition, and she was so helpful with the menu, and she made sure to check on us to see how we were doing through the experience, and she was funny and just elevated the whole experience for us. I mean, the food alone stands on its own as among the finest, to me. And I'm not the easiest person in the world to please, either. The delicious bread with pesto (not long ago I thought "nobody serves pesto anymore!") and the mixed green salad alone had me hooked before we even got to the entrees! That salad is something we're still thinking about. How does a simple salad leave such a remarkably pleasant impression? The greens were just very fresh and tasty? The dressing was so citrusy vinegary delicious? The little fried potato sticks gave it a crunch (we initially assumed they were not gluten-free, but they were, just potato, so BONUS!). I don't know what it was about that salad but it was delicious!I usually go with chicken piccata generally as my first dish at an Italian restaurant I haven't tried yet (no, NOT parmesan, although in fairness, boy the chicken parmesan looked good too!). But the chicken Marsala looked pretty appetizing and it did not disappoint! In fact, it exceeded my expectations! The sauce was just perfect in both flavor and consistency, and the chicken itself was delicious - plump, tender, just the right thickness (I think it's redbird?) and the pieces of mushroom were great (not overwhelming but subtle). Admittedly, II didn't really know what the "vegetable pasta" that accompanies it is, I could guess it's some version of primavera. That pasta side was ALSO outstanding! I don't remember if they make their pasta in house, but it was like a fettuccine type of noodle, with small pieces of vegetables (squash, I think crunch green bean maybe, thinly sliced red pepper? Not sure) and the pasta soaks up that delicious sauce, so it was perfect. Jemeella said "you good with the vegetable pasta that comes with it" and I said "sure as if I knew what I was talking about. Just figured if that's what they do, let's go with it. Silky, delicious, fresh pasta side. Right on. My wife got the steak. Sunken gently in a mashed potato. With a delicious sauce again. With fresh spinach. Another total winner. It's so easy when the other person orders steak and it's not done to the desired temperature for that to ruin the timing of the meal if it has to be adjusted. But this was a perfect medium well, straight up. AND they didn't deliver the dish and run away so if you DID have an issue with doneness, it just sits there getting cold. NOPE. Perfectly done and delicious as delivered! Now, with service, you usually only pay attention to the server. But I have to say, the bus staff was also really great. They refilled water glasses, removed plates, and boxed up our leftovers for us (I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, but there are plenty of restaurants, even high end, that just give you a container and have you do it yourself. And get this - I felt a little sheepish about wanting to take the couple of remaining pieces of fresh bread home, and not only did the bus guy box it up, he gave me EXTRA pieces of bread! You think that's lost on me? I'm gonna remember that. Also it should be noted that the service was outstanding on a day that - despite being a routine Monday roughly noon - was pretty darn busy at this place! Which says a lot. They even comped my birthday dessert (crème brûlée) and it was yet another winner! Perfect consistency, smooth, not pasty, sweet but not too sweet, and the perfect thin caramelized sugar topping (without making a fuss with the blow torch at the table, which is fine by me, just serve it as it will be eaten). Wow. Wine list was REALLY reasonably priced. And my wife and I both ordered after dinner drinks, both of which were great. Not only was the wine just reasonably priced, but overall, when the bill arrived, I thought it was a great value. High quality food, superior service, great view, easy parking.I'm just upset it took us so long to get to Vivace. Don't wait for a special occasion to try this place. I know we're not gonna wait. We're going back soon!

The fish was hot, perfectly prepared and a good portion. Another highlight was switching the fish side to a vegetable pasta. That pasta was sheer perfection. So darn good! Service is relaxed so if you're in a hurry best tell them. We'll be back soon!

The restaurant is pristine and we were promptly greeted by our amazing server. She gave great recommendations and you could tell that she really takes pride in all of the deliciousness coming from the kitchen. We order antipasti and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. The were full of flavor along with the bread for the table. The antipasti board was stacked full of delicious meats and cheeses. Then we ordered tomato basil soup, cannelloni, shrimp picatta, chicken marsala, osso bucco, and sausage rigatoni pasta. Everyone raved about the food, each entree was beautifully presented and came out piping hot! Ah how could I forget the drinks. One of us ordered the limoncello lemon drop, and I ordered the comfortable Italian. Both drinks were nicely balanced, the flavor it was so pleasing to the palate, and very easy to drink. After spending 12 years in Arizona all of it in the Northwest Tucson area cannot believe that I've never happened upon this place until yesterday. Will rest assured that this will become a monthly staple!
