People complained about this place but it really is not that bad (try staying at ANY Extended Stay America, ha). Rooms were fairly clean, no bed bugs, basic coffeemaker, a/c -- my only 2 qualms were 1) wi-fi pw is printed on this tiny fortune cookie sized paper we didn't even see until we had to check out the following morning. I tried entering it into my phone, but it was so slow it automatically went back to LTE so don't bank on wifi working if you have work to do. 2) no curtain of any kind over the bathroom window. Can't see squat at night so I'm not sure if anyone could see in while I'm showering; not looking to have anyone get a free show, whether it be a person, bear or squirrel. Fridge and microwave here, with a small outdoor seating area and ice machine (for filling your cooler, I wouldn't suggest ingesting the ice because it's in a chest that you have to scoop with a ghetto scooper tied with a string sitting in a dirty red bucket). Staff is nice and the place is convenient for what we needed to get done. read more

This place was great for the spend. Easy check-in at a neighboring property across the street. Facilities were clean, bed was soft and linens all smelled fresh and clean. A/C was great. Fixtures can use some love but everything I needed to work did and I wasn't bothered about it, especially for the price. If I come back to the Isabella/Sequoia area I wouldn't feel bad about staying here again. Bonus - the astroturf out front looks like it's recycled from a football field. We went on a 2 day motorcycle ride from Thousand Oaks. I found this location and price to be very nice and within our budget. The room was charming, 2 queen beds (very comfortable), the walls, ceiling and floor, were wood, very warm and attractive. The room also had, a small kitchen area with a dinette, a full size window slider, that opened to a huge area, with patio chairs that looked out to a spectacular view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The private bathroom was large with a great shower and window. The room came with a window air conditioner that was very quiet, chilled the room and also a large smart flat screen TV. The room and area was very quiet and at night, I walked outside late and the sky was full of brilliant stars and a could see the milky way. I highly recommend this property and the staff is curtious and helpful. read more

There was a wildfire and a power outage the night I stayed at this hotel, but the manager possibly owner was nice enough to let us in our room after midnight. We were stranded on the other side of the lake because of the wildfire. She had to get out of her bed and come and check me in. She called me before and let me know that she would have my room whenever I can get there. Then she gave me a discount on the room and lantern for the room so I could at least see. It was so hot. I ended up sleeping in my car, but that was not her fault. Fortunately, the power came back on in the middle of the night and we were able to go to our room for a cool rest before my long drive home. There are no amenities here, but the room was clean and again the manager went out of her way to help me out. I would definitely stay here again! read more

This place was absolutely beautiful. We had a patio door facing the lake. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette with microwave, sink & small fridge. Great seating in the kitchenette. You. I'm going to go Ahead and try to up the ante for this business. I came to experience the kern and we got here alittle late. Thankfully I read the details online on Expedia before coming thru. I had to call another hotel and tell them I was going to be in late after 9pm. They have no check in here late so they left a key out. Anyhow when my friend walked in the room we thought it is quaint and cute. Eclectic paint on canvas upon the walls. Coffee, tea, (2) waters and candies etc are here and I'm going to assume those are freebies because there are no cost sheets. Beds made nice, sheets super clean and comfortable. I flipped the mattress pad after reading the review posted below and found NO bugs! Bathroom remodeled cute and clean. My only complaint or negative observation is it would be nice to have a curtain in the bathroom in case there were to be a peeping toms outside. Anyhow, the window is small and I showered late. Now Off to the kern to enjoy my day! read more

Clean rooms, mattresses weren't bad we got 2 rooms both with 2 queen beds, bathrooms were clean. Room has nice views, has the essentials microwave, mini fridge, coffee machine and a bbq area you can use to have a picnic. Would definitely like to stay here again. read more

I was really surprised by this place. Nice clean rooms. Recently remodeled bathrooms that were very nice. Our room had a mini kitchen and a sliding door out to the lawn (which is actually reclaimed astro-turf. Even has the 20 yard line markers on it. Hilarious!). There's picnic tables and a huge covered area where you can BBQ or hang out. You can see the lake right from your front door. And even though it was hot when we arrived, our room was nice and chilled. AC works great. The only gotcha is that you have to check in down the street at the sister property, Barewood Inn. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of. I'd totally stay here again. Had a great time. read more

Definitely a step up from The Bates Motel, but we're not talking a VERY big step. And on that note, hopefully Janet Leigh's shower was warmer than mine... Aside from a few little bugs (mosquitos/moths, not roaches or ants; you're at a lake, it's hard to avoid those things regardless of where you are), the room was clean. Beds were serviceable but not very comfortable (I had a dream I was in a Ritz-Carlton bed. Then I woke up - very disappointing). The TV is out of a Kaiser hospital room circa 1996, but honestly the most offensive thing about the room was the artwork above the beds (VERY colorful Jackson Pollock-y stuff that didn't match the brown of the rest of the room). The nicest thing was the little porch with parking lot/lake views (seriously - great to sit out at night and relax under the stars). If you're just going to be a night, this place will work, but you may want to try somewhere IN Kernville so you can be within walking distance of all the bars and restaurants. read more

The bathroom has no curtains in front of the window to the outside, which is kind of creepy if you're not the kind of person who is into giving people a free show. Not sure if it's tinted so people on the outside can see in, so that was a bit perturbing. Check-in is down the street, at another off location building, which is no big deal because you arrive most likely by car anyway, but a bit inconvenient, no biggie. We would leave 0 stars if we could AND report them to the health department. My family booked a night here while the rest of us camped at the lake. Came back to hotel at 1 AM after a day at the lake and found quite a few bugs buzzing absolutely it the room (#38). We understand this- it is right next to a lake/river. But these critters made my brother in law look a little more closely at the bed. He lifted mattress and found a bed big infestation! Not mosquitos! Not moths... bed bugs! We quickly gathered our bags and slept in our truck. We are yet to see if our bags have been effected from the 5-6 hours they sat on n the bed while we played at the lake. Absolutely DISGUSTING! Front desk girl was apologetic and said that we should follow up with management with the video we took. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

It's a good place if you have a family or a bunch of friends to come after a day at the lake or the river it's clean, fully stocked so you can BBQ or cook a meal inside, very nice beds and linens. At a good price! read more

Not in summer -- never in summer. We arrived in the midst of 104 degree hot wave. I asked before booking if they had air conditioning. They did. Well, abstractly, yes, but it took hours for us to get the room down to a temperature in which we could sleep. Also, the room we stayed in (#38) is a hot box -- built on cement with a wood ceiling. It was so miserable that we ate a $100 and left after the first night to drive home. Also, the advertisements appear to show a property located far into the shore. The reality is, the lodge is on the far end of the lake and is nothing but mud and grass at mid-summer. On the positive side, it was fairly clean and cheaper than the other accommodations in the area. The management was very friendly and the wireless worked. read more

Awesome place! Relaxing and peaceful. The rooms are quaint and cute. The bathroom is updated and new.

I agree with the other reviews regarding the poor air conditioning and dated rooms. I could have put up with these inconveniences however the owners pets are intolerable. They have 3 small dogs they keep on their porch that will bark in a frenzy when anybody walks on the path nearby. This completely runes the beautiful ambiance of this area. We will find another place to stay next time. read more

An older motel, clean room, nice and large space with a kitchenette. My room had twin queen beds everything was recently painted. Microwave, coffee in room, blow dryer in restroom, plenty of towels. The staff was friendly and helpful. The downsides are the office closes at 9:00 PM, you must check in by then or not get your room. I called and found this out and needed to adjust my schedule to get there in time. read more

My cousin and I stayed one night at the Lakeshore Lodge, The manager who checked us in was a sweet soul, very kind. The place may be not a Hilton, but is was clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable. Considering the options in and around Kernville, this is a place I'd return to. read more
