Idk where to start. THE SERVICE WAS AWFUL. Im not sure if it was because it was cinco de mayo or if this is how it is regularly but wow. The host had an attitude and seemed overwhelmed then the server was completely overwhelmed. We repeated our order to her probably five times and each time she repeated it back incorrectly. Then of course the food came back incorrect and she slammed the tacos that we did not order on our table and kept repeating that we ordered them when we did not. Finally she took the plate and left. Then the manager arrived and she asked about 4 times how was everything so we finally told her and of course no accountability or apology or even a discount... all she said was "yeah, it's raining and it's cinco de mayo" if I could give them zero stars I would. We planned to leave no tip but unfortunately it was included due to cinco de mayo and the special menu for the holiday. Ps we sat outside and it was freezing. I came here with a group of 5 friends after moving in nearby last month. The interior is large, lengthwise and boasts booth seating. There are also colorful patterns and artwork on the walls. For example, there is a painting of half Frida Kahlo's face and half a black and white skull with roses on top. Another painting is of the American flag, juxtaposed with the Mexican flag. These lovely touches brightened the place up. We were served multiple servings of complimentary chips and salsa, which were quite tasty and helped to somewhat quench our hunger. I had the horchata drink (as long as it's the menu, I'm sure to get that), which was pretty good, but not as sweet or full of cinnamon flavor as usual. For my entree, I ordered the Picadera Colombiana, which consisted of mixed grilled chicken, sausage, beef, french fries, tostones, along with slices of cured onions and tomatoes to top everything off. This was massive and I love how it encompassed everything I was curious about trying. There was a generous amount of each food item. The grilled chicken was packed with flavor, slightly seared with perfect char marks. The sausage was juicy and well seasoned. The beef was probably my least favorite meat because it tasted a little dry and on the bland side. The french fries were wonderfully crispy and had an irresistible potato goodness taste. Tostones were pretty good, complete with a satisfying crunch. The onions and tomatoes were a nice compliment to the dish. Since the platter was so large, I saved the rest for the next day and it still tasted fresh and delicious! Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Went here recently for lunch with some friends. We split some nachos and I got a steak burrito. Nachos were pretty good and loaded with the usual. The steak burrito was pretty good to. The place that definitely has the feel of someone's home or the restaurant equivalent of like a dive bar with good deals. Postmates said the food should be ready by 6:26. I show up at 6:33 and let the bartender know I was there to pick up my order. She said she was going to check. 10 minutes pass by with no follow up , so I inquire once again about my order. At that point, she asks for my name and then a waitress passed by and I also gave her my name. I see her go towards the kitchen, and it looks like my food was sitting there the whole time! When the waitress came over to tell the bartender my food was sitting on the table by the kitchen, the bartender said rudely said, "I dont delivery." When i told the bartender my food was sitting by the kitchen, she was very dismissive.This is very frustrating because this is the second time I've experienced this within the last couple of months. The overall vibe was weird because I think she thought I was a delivery person picking up an order. Even if I was, that is not the way you treat a human. My wife called and asked to speak to a manager and she was told no. Found myself in Harlem one day, and wanted to have some Mexican food. After going on yelp to look for Mexican restaurants, I found this place. Picante is located very close to 137 Metro station/City College Metro station. They have a small bar where they show the games (Last time I was there they showed the NFL playoffs and European soccer games), and few seating options to dine it. One thing I liked a lot is their all day happy hour prices for selective drinks. I usually come here for the tacos and Mango Mojitos. I usually order the Al Pastor, Chicken or Shrimp Taco and I think the food is tasty and flavorful, and you cant beat those prices. This is a great spot to grab some tacos with your friends, or have a drink and watch a sporting event. FYI, I called last saturday regarding the UFC246 fight, and was told over phone that there is a cover charge for $25. Please reconsider the cover fee in the future. read more

I live right around the corner and I walk by all the time. It's pretty cute from the outside and the interior decor is even better. They have chalk art along walls nice wooden tables. The restaurant was clean and tidy. And contrary to a previous review I'm almost 100% positive they had an A good grade. You can also check online for nyc restaurant food grades if you want to double check (that goes for any restaurant in the city). I've worked in the restaurant business and it's not that hard to get an A, pretty standard cleanliness rules so I would never eat at a B rated restaurant knowingly. The lighting inside was kind of dark and I felt like i was squinting to read the menu and it was also cold I had to wear my coat and I noticed the staff was also cold (wearing sweaters). Anyways I was starving after school and was going to actually get ramen at a nearby restaurant but they were closed. So I came to picante and it didn't disappoint. My server was quiet but friendly. I ordered a burrito it was $14 and i thought it was a bit steep for a burrito but it was literally a giant burrito. Their green salsa they serve on the side is divine. I saved half of the burrito for later and I'm sure it will be just as delicious. The place didn't have many customers a few at a bar and maybe one other table that I could see. But I think it's reasonably priced and good so I would recommend eating or drinking here to anyone who wants something chill and perhaps for a group! read more

I was wandering around Harlem one evening, and found this place sitting along Broadway. I was a bit famished, and in the mood for tacos, so I made my way inside. The place was not too busy, so I had my pick of seating. I sat at a table right by the front door, and went through my options as I munched on some chips and salsa. Since I don't eat pork, I stuck with some chicken and beef tacos. The waitress informed me that the prices advertised were for basic tacos, and having an elaboration of toppings would be extra. I didn't care for that at the time, just simple spicy salsa would do it for me. I noticed that they had a bar, but I was not in the mood to drink. They have an assortment of spirits, but just how big an assortment will be determined at a future date. There was one other girl working as a waitress that day, and she had a bad attitude. This place has fair prices, good food, and good drinks. I had their happy hour Mezcalito and I will go back for more, also had huaraches and enchiladas which were good and tres leches for dessert. The service from the waiter was good, she wasn't all that attentive but it was good enough and she was nice, the bartender was very nice. Wow there's a lot of mixed reviews on here; interesting. I tend to give lower than average ratings but have to admit I had a good experience when I came here last Friday for lunch with a friend. The place wasn't full at all but had a couple of tables filled. Ambiance was aightt; not too loud and they gladly put on NCAA tournament games on the TV when I asked. Server was nice as was the girl at the bar who jumped in to take our orders. I ordered the gigante burrito ($11) and a coke. The burrito was ginormous, just the way I like it. I ordered the chicken one, but it seemed like the burrito came with chicken, chorizo, and whatever other meats they put in there, which I thought was interesting in a good way. The flavor on the burrito was banginggg. All the oil from meats added to the overall experience. Each bite I took was very satisfying. Burrito had some salad greens in it too. I was going to stop halfway but I ate the whole thing cause it was so good. Now I wholeheartedly gave this place four stars mainly cause my burrito was excellent. However, a few aspects of my experience which may be potential pitfalls included: 1) long wait time for food, 2) I ordered a chicken burrito but there were definitely other meats like chorizo in the burrito. I'm not complaining as it was excellent, but I could see some people getting heated, 3) they only give you two bowls of free chips, but gave us a third one free cause we didn't know, 4) prices might be considered a bit expensive on other dishes if they don't give you a lot of food. I've visited several times but most recently this past weekend to have a late brunch with some friends and it was just okay. We had a few pitchers of margaritas and sangria - the tamarind margarita is soooo delicious, highly recommend it! The passion fruit flavor was pretty good as well. Most people around the table got the steak tostones (fried plantain) which for me were nothing special. The steak was well cooked but lacked seasoning and the tostones were standard. The guacamole was the best part and even that was missing some spice. Another friend of mine had the chicken tacos and hated them because they were so dry. I know she wasn't lying because I've ordered burritos/tacos in the past for delivery and had similar experiences. Would I go back? Probably, but only for drinks/happy hour. I had the chicken fajita and it was bland I had to put so much of their red sauce they give you, which should be what they marinate the chicken with at the very least.
