Amazing is what this place is. I have had pasta, risotto, entrees and everything was always good. Don't be afraid to pick from the specials they are good. Calamari is some of the best ive had (grilled) and I'm big on squid. Owners are very nice and service is welcoming. Go try it I'd say best Italian in Bay ridge if not Brooklyn and I'm from bay ridge (sorry Gino's). Wow, this place is amazing! We were so lucky to stumble across here on our one dinner in Brooklyn. The food was delicious, some of the best Italian I have had. And I just spent a week in Italy this past summer. We had the fettuccini with cream sauce and the spinach ravioli. The staff was fantastic and helpful, accommodating to all our add ons and substitutions. My only complaint is that I am visiting and this isn't in my own neighborhood so I can't dine here regularly. read more

My wife loves the Picante Risotto - with spicy sausage and broccoli rabe. I love The Salsiccia Rissotto - sweet sausage and leeks. The bolognese and lasagna are really good too. Last night I had a special - fettuccine with duck ragu and mushrooms - yum! They often have a wonderful salad of mixed greens, pear, toasted pignoli and goat cheese. We were trying to figure out a place to eat and read reviews on this place so decided to check it out. We made reservations because the place is small (about 30 seats) always packed and reasonably priced. There were 6 of us and each of us ordered something different and EVERY SINGLE DISH WAS DELICIOUS! I mean mouthwatering, fresh and delicious. I sat there trying to calculate how on earth this small place could be making money and how did they advertise...it was all word of mouth. I spoke to the waitress who turned out to be one of the owners. She said that she and the chef and the other waitress all worked for years in the restaurant business and decided to take a shot and go out on their own, so they chose a small place to start with. It's a hit! So all around, it has a great small business story with a BIG business success. I highly recommend it, and I've eaten around the world. This is honestly hands down the best Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. Not only do they have delicious food but they give you the homey/family vibe. We went here for the first time about three weeks ago with my in-laws as they were visiting from Miami. Everything we all ordered was delicious. We have been back about 4 times already and they have not disappointed. The best dish by far in my opinion is the gnocchi with sausage and the short rib parpadelle pasta. This review is based on delivery. My wife and I wanted pasta and our usual place has be off it's game lately. So we tried Piccante, we couldn't have asked anything better. First off the pasta is made fresh so it can take a little time. But so worth it. My wife had the rigatoni bolognese(which she said was delicious). I had the Napoli which was as light as can be gnocchi with spicy sausage (which they subbed sweet sausage for me) and mushroom in a pink sauce. Fantastic dish. Update! I now eat at Piccante one every month or two and it is just as delicious. I've never had a bad meal. The prosciutto and mozzarella appetizer is just the best - I want to try something new but cannot resist that dish. I often order the pasta with meat sauce but have had several other pasta and meat dishes, all excellent. The service is also friendly and laid back (a big plus in my book) - they accommodate my husband's requests for changes to dishes and after one or two visits recognized us. They also have a nice kids menu - my kids aren't very adventurous eaters so the chicken and fries or pasta with sauce is perfect. My favorite place for dinner! read more

I understand that Mother's Day is a busier day, but the service we had was unacceptable. It took about 75 minutes from the time we ordered for the food to finally arrive. The entire time the wait staff kept telling us "the food is almost ready" which it clearly was not. Eventually the waiter came over to tell us that they had a large party they weren't expecting and so that the kitchen was backed up. That would have been nice to tell us when we first sat instead of over an hour after we had ordered. We were not offered any drinks or discount for the extremely long wait, just a few meek "sorry, your food is almost ready." By this point my family had to leave because my two kids started acting up, leaving me alone to wait for the food which when it finally arrived had to walk home in the rain to bring to my family. Completely unacceptable. If you know you're going to be busy on a day like Mother's Day, you need to have extra help in the kitchen. Also have your wait staff be honest with people coming in and let them know there's a longer than usual wait, or else we would have went somewhere else because we have little kids with us. And when there is an unexpected wait like that you should at least offer something to the patrons for their patience. I've worked in restaurants before and I don't understand how the people who run this restaurant don't know this. The food was good but the rest was a nightmare. We won't be returning. read more

We had our usual Wednesday date night, which is our night to try out new foods and restaurants in the city. We decided on Piccante this Wednesday and the food was just great. We started with the Verde salad, followed by Pasta dishes, she had the Fettuccini, I had the Napoli. Both dishes were just delicious. We ended the meal with a Tiramisu and the Warm Chocolate Cake. This is my second review and this place still deserve 5 stars!! We visited Piccante when it first opened. We fell in love with the place immediately. What's not to love? Delicious food, friendly staff and relaxing ambiance! We visited again tonight and it did not disappoint! It is what we expected, if not more. I was happy to see the place is packed and didn't mind waiting for a table (we didn't have reservation). I ordered the vegetarian risotto and it was delicious! My daughter, who's a picky eater, ordered the spaghetti with marinara sauce from the kids menu, and she enjoyed it! Wish I had room for dessert but maybe next time!! Piccante looks pretty unassuming from the outside but once my partner and I ordered we realized why this restaurant gets so many good reviews. We started with the prosciutto and mozzarella with balsamic as an appetizer. Both tasted super fresh and delicious and were served in a generous portion. I ordered white wine to start which was crisp and reasonably priced. I ordered the shrimp fettuccine with mushrooms and capers for my main dish. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the pasta was the al dente and not over-salted. My partner ordered the lasagna which she also loved and remarked about the freshness of the sauce and the balance of flavors. I ordered the tiramisu for desert and my partner chose the lemon berry ricotta cheesecake. Both were creamy and flavorful. We will definitely be back when we're in the mood for Italian! Grilled Calamari is hard to nail, in general. Usually gummy and meh. This is so perfect. The pasta is fresh, quite obviously house made. We ordered delivery from Piccante in Bay Ridge. This may have been the best delivery food I have had in my long life. The risotto was hot and creamy, the fettuccine was al dented and properly sauced, the bread was fresh with a nice crumb, and all the sides were excellent. It's rare that a restaurant this good delivers. The order was a bit late, maybe 20 minutes past the predicted window; but that seems a fair tradeoff. read more

Lovely, family owned restaurant in Bay Ridge that serves up homemade bread when you start. We came here for brunch on a whim and had the Salmon Benedict with salad. The eggs were perfectly poached- something you always hope for but usually never get. They brewed fresh coffee and encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted. This little Italian restaurant is a really welcome addition to the neighborhood. After reading all of the great reviews of Piccante, I decided to visit with some family for dinner. We made a 6:30 reservation and the place was empty when we first arrived, but it quickly filled up and was packed by the time we left. The service was super friendly and efficient. The bill came to $130 for a dinner for four people, which is incredibly reasonable. The menu has a nice assortment of salads, appetizers, pastas, risottos and main dishes. They have nightly specials, as well. The wine list is small, but has everything you could want. At present, they only have beer and wine. We shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and three appetizers: grilled polenta with mushrooms, grilled calamari and the arugula salad. All of these were fresh, delicious and well-prepared. They also brought fresh baked bread that was still warm, which came with fresh tomato sauce for dipping. For our mains, I had the frutti di mare over fresh fettuccini. It usually comes with spaghetti, but the waiter suggested I have it with the fettuccini, since its homemade. It came with calamari, shrimp and clams. All of the seafood was fresh and I like that the clams were vongole and not large chewy clams. It was served in a fra diavolo sauce that had just the right amount of spice. My husband had the piccante risotto, which had spicy sausage and broccoli rabe. He loved it. My aunt had the vegetable risotto which was made with wild rice and butternut squash. My brother had the pappardelle with pancetta and peas. We all were blown away by our meals - from the appetizers to the mains. It was all really well made and balanced. The portions were perfectly sized, as well. We were too full for dessert and coffee, but they had a nice dessert menu. I can't wait to return. This place doesn't really look like much from the outside, but it is really good homemade Italian food. I wish them the best of luck! read more

I walked in with a friend this evening and top-to-bottom the experience was fantastic. One of the owners, Luis, was working front of house and couldn't have been more attentive. The bread was fresh out of the oven and piping hot. The sides were ample and the homemade fresh pasta was incredibly delicious. I ordered fettuccine with eggplant and mozzarella with tomato sauce, this dish is only going to be great if the ingredients are stellar--they knocked it out of the park. This place has only been open for six weeks and I definitely hope it stays open for a long time. I recommend the restaurant highly. read more

I love this small family owned restaurant. I have eaten here twice: first with 3 others within the first month of its opening; second time during the weekend of April 13th for a private party of 22 people (they closed off the restaurant for a few hours to let us have a birthday brunch with a great prefix menu). So far, I have had two of their dishes (risotto with spicy Italian sausage and the fettuccine eggplant mozzarella) and I love them both. The restaurant is a small cute place with seating for 30. I love that the decorations are subtle and basic, so it is not overwhelming (I cannot do the over stimulation of colors and intense decor). I recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves Italian recipes and loves supporting family owned businesses. read more
