Fantastic food cooked by wonderful people. My bf and I frequent this restaurant a bunch. Their food is so so good and my favorite meal is the steak fajitas, and their sides are all too good as well as the guacamole and chips. Jarritos and margaritas are also fantastic as always. My wife and I planned to take our kids to Bayville Adventure park. We were running late and needed a place to take the kids. I'd been dying for some Mexican food and La Cantina Bay came up. I'd seen that one of the things that separates them from the other restaurants in the area was their customer service. The other reviews did not lie. This place was fantastic. From the minute we stepped through the door we felt welcomed. The view from any of the tables is pretty great, we sat window side and had a great view of the water and the park. Right off the bat, my kids also loved it because they offered several flavors of "Jarritos" (fantastic Mexican soda). We had the Nacho appetizers, it was a great choice. The pico de gallo was fresh, the black beans were flavorful, the beef was juicy and the chips were nice and warm. The nachos did have a bit of kick so watch out if you have little ones. While on the topic of kids, they had a pretty good kids menu. My son had the cheeseburger. This thing was huge and I"m pretty sure it was had made, my son demolished it. I had the steak fajitas, absolutely amazing. The steak and onions, peppers came out on a searing hot skillet. It came with a side plate with the refried beans, fresh guac, more pico de gallo and some of the freshest tortillas. My wife the had the steak burrito, this thing was the size of a football. And I stole a bite from my wife, I wished I'd had that as well. If you wanted place to sit down and enjoy an authentic meal, with a great view this is the place. What also made it great was the fact that they catered to kids. They stayed calm before the park and let my wife and I eat in peace. This is definitely a go-to place. read more

Stopped in here with my wife today. It was 3:30 on Friday, we were the only ones in there, as we expected at that time. It was nice to see a family run restaurant. The owner was the chef, his wife and daughter the servers. Food was really good. We started with the guacamole and we ordered the mussels. The chef came out and said the mussels came in a little small today and asked if we would like the clams instead. We said why not. The broth in this clam dish was fantastic. Then he came back out and asked if we want to try his carrot soup. One of the best soups I've literally ever had. Then we finished with steak fajitas and the flautas. Both great dishes. They were really friendly and nice people. We really appreciated their service and kindness. Also don't forget to get the red sangria it's amazing. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Their steak fajitas are absolutely delicious and the best I've tasted. They are served sizzling hot with refried beans, sour cream, cheese and salsa. Our friends also enjoyed what they ordered (I forget what the ordered). The staff is friendly and it's nice to be able to sit and look outside at the water. During the past year they obtained their liquor license and it's no longer BYOB. I do miss the BYOB and it seems that they may have lost some regular customers that were attracted to BYOB. I must say that a glass of house wine (generous pour) at $7 IS reasonably priced. Earlier this month I visited again and upon arrival I was greeted by owner/chef Jose Morales who just happened to be standing in the open kitchen facing the customer entrance. White board specials continue to be featured without pricing and are priced high. (See my previous review.) I had the chicken francaise and it was tasty with a generous portion. The chicken francaise came with a side of pasta. The wait staff asked me what sauce I wanted and I ordered vodka sauce, just as a member of my party was having with penne and chicken as their main course. When I received the bill I was surprised to see an additional $5 charge for vodka sauce and I questioned the wait staff, especially since he didn't mention any additional charge when he took my order. He said that he'd ask the manager about the charge. When he returned to take my charge card to settle the bill I asked him about the charge and he told me that the manager confirmed to him that was indeed the correct charge. In my opinion that's just poor customer service not to tell the customer that there would be an additional $5 charge for vodka sauce when the wait staff asked me for the type of sauce AND perhaps even poorer customer service for the wait staff not to get back to me about my inquiry. read more

Piccolo Cantina Bay is situated in beautiful Bayville and couldn't have a prettier view of the water. It's large windows allow guests to enjoy those views while dining in. Unfortunately the food is not anywhere as good as the views. Not only are dishes overpriced but both the taste and quality are mediocre. I have visited a few times, each time hoping the food will be better but am disappointed each time. That being said, service is great and the venue itself is nice so it would be a great place to grab some drinks and enjoy the view! read more

Went to stop by a friends friends house and she wanted lunch. She picked the spot she was in the mood for Mexican. I didn't argue, it's best to never argue with a lady. So we came to this spot. First good news was plenty of parking. Also I Must say I enjoyed the feel of this place, I felt like I was far away on vacation with the Spanish look and music playing in the background. This place his family owned and that means they run it with love! They proved it with the great service. It wasn't busy at all so we had are run of the place. I got a chicken burrito that was good, I mean really good. My friends got tacos and she liked them a lot. They also said they plan on opening more locations, I hope they come out East, it would be a welcomed addition. I remember when José and his family originally ran café jalesico (I'm sorry if that's incorrect spelling) in Glen Cove when I was little. When I found out that his phenomenal nachos and fajitas had left Glen Cove I was quite upset and worried where I would get comparable quality and prices. Those nachos deluxe could not be replaced. Where else could I find paella made with love! This family ran restaurant was irreplaceable. I thought I had lost the most delicious fajita on Long Island. But fear not! I randomly walked into La Cantina Bay with a good friend of mine who was looking for a good burrito. Despite it's odd location we ventured inside. Immediately recognized the woman at the door! La Cantina Bay is a Mexican / Italian restaurant Located on the border of Locust Valley and Bayville; just off the bend of Bayville ave looking toward Long Island sound. This smallish sized restaurant seems a bit outdated; complete with outdoor sconces indoors and a glass wall giving the illusion this is a larger restaurant than it is. With a couple of flags on the wall and colorful tables; this place is casual and nothing fancy, but I like it. More importantly, service from all the courteous staff was noticeably exceptional and appreciated. We ordered a sizzling broiler plate of steak fajitas and some nachos grande to keep it simple and everything was great. The flank steak was well marinated and tender, vegetables were fresh and flavorful and made great leftovers. Just those two plates were perfect for two with plenty to take home and enjoy later. The menu is split between Mexican and Italian dishes which originally made me wonder what to expect. However, we noticed other couples digging in to seafood and pasta dishes which all looked good. I'll be sure and give their Italian side a try next time. Keep it simple, ask for pricing on the specials and you'll go home happy. read more

I had the Carnitas dish which was marinated pork with refried beans and rice. Everything was tasty. They give you a generous amount of food - sour cream and guacamole. The cheese quesadillas were great - my favorite part of the meal! The steak fajitas were some of the best I have ever tasted. Everything else was good. Tres leches cake was really tasty, Flan was okay in my opinion - I Don't care for flan idk why I always seem to get it! They had a tent set up with a DJ for the holiday - I recommend a Mariacha Band or however you spell it. Overall: Great Food, Rec the quesadillas! NO LIQUOR OR ALCOHOL SERVED. BYOB ONLY. The food was border line inedible. No flavor on the nachos at all. The tacos they brought out without tomatoes when they say on the menu that they are served with tomatoes.. The waitress said a lot of people request no tomatoes so they Dont put them on anymore. The entrees were lacking a lot of flavor. Didn't even finish eating it. The service was terrible and they only had 1 other table. They sat us down and never brought water. I ordered my daughters food right away and they brought it out after the adult entrees.
