I've been coming to Steve's Piccola Bussola ever since I was a kid. This was always the place where we'd celebrate special occasions - birthdays, graduations, you name it - because we're always so well taken care of here and the food is delicious (and family style, so ideal for large groups). On our most recent visit to Steve's we were celebrating a bunch of birthdays as well as Mother's Day, and were treated like family from the moment we arrived. We started off with a ton of appetizers - baked clams which came with the most amazing sauce, fried calamari crisp to perfection, grilled octopus which was so fresh and tender, fried zucchini and a cold antipasto that was full of delicious meats and cheeses. For mains, we shared penne a la vodka and fettucine alfredo plus a few meat and seafood dishes to share. We had the tiramisu to close things out which was homemade and delicious. Went there Sat night. Place was fairly empty but had an abundance of wait staff. Wife and I ordered 1 drink each, which were good. Service good. Food is solid. Now the bad part. Everything is ala crate. No pasta or salad come with your dinner The bill came to $195 for two people before tip!!! $240 total!!! For the amount of food they give you, and no inclusions with your dinner, plus the high prices, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Having tried Vincent's Clam Bar a handful of times, I wanted to give Steve's Piccola a try. So I ordered a Caesar Salad, Chicken Parm for one, and an order of Linguini w/Marinara. The Chicken Parm was very good - the meat, the sauce and the cheese. The Linguini was also very good although not cooked al dente. The Caesar Salad could have used a little more dressing but was also pretty good. The service was very attentive with water being refilled almost continuously and there was a nice fresh bread basket served as soon as we sat down. I would say that overall the meal was enjoyable and on par with Vincent's in terms of quality. However, the prices are higher ... and the portion sizes are smaller ... putting it a little lower on the value scale. The other thing is there is valet parking with a relatively small lot. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. But be prepared to spend a few more bucks. read more

Loved this place. Such a classic Italian family style vibe. Everything was so delicious. Service was excellent. Such a homey, cozy, vibe. We loved everything we ordered. The Papardelle Principessa (bolognese vodka sauce) is a must. Sorrentino Chicken was so simple delicious. The snapper was even better the next day upon reheating. The sauce was perfect as far as consistency and taste! We recently had a family dinner here the night before a wedding with many out of towners. We are mostly Italians and very particular. Wow, the food and service was outstanding! The wine list was beautiful and the appetizers and entrees were heaven. Everyone is still raving about it. By the way, order the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. read more

Great authentic Italian restaurant, dishes can be made either family style or individual. However, the service was very slow when we went. We ordered two rounds of appetizers (baked calms, fried calamari, stuffed mushrooms, grilled octopus, fried mozzarella) all was amazing. Our entrees took over two hours to come out although they were delicious waiting was EXTREMELY annoying. I've been going there for years and the food is great! But the portions are getting ridiculous. I ordered the ravioli and I got 4 and 3 small shrimp and that was a single order. I questioned the server and you told me that was the portion. My children eat more than that. I'm not that big of a guy, about 180 pounds and I left hungry. I am very disappointed. read more

After coming here for years, my experience this past week was very very disappointing. Upon sitting down for late lunch, I overheard a customer say on his way out "the food was terrible but the wine was good". I thought it was tongue in cheek till my meal was served. The Fettucine was under cooked, and the Fillet of Sole was not Sole . I have ordered and eaten more than enough times to know the consistency and shape of the fish, which is light and more round in shape. What was served was more slender and certainly more meaty than Sole. I was assured by the waiter that it was Sole, but feel it was definitely something else served in it's place. I heard from a relative who also dined there recently that her experience was not what it had been in the past. I almost never write reviews, but this left a "bad taste" in my mouth for more than one reason. read more

Lets start by saying...when you walk in front entrance , there's a bar and a service area to the right of the bar you have to walk through to enter dining room. No host or hostess to seat or greet you and NO ONE DID, 6/7 waiters all looking at us as if we came in the wrong entrance. So we asked, again no one answered. Not a word ....bad start. We were seated and waited 15 mins for a menu, lots of people on the floor looking at us ...no one brought us a menu till we finally asked. In between the staff changing tables, they took 2 chair from our table, which is fine...not a word. carried chairs over guest heads while eating ...very poor customer attention & service. I dine frequently and have never experienced such CLASSLESS treatment when dining. It was also obvious that that the people dining were regulars and treated as such. we used to love this place, always going on weekends even though they don't take reservations and favor their "Italian" customers HOWEVER my beef is with the tiny amounts of foods they serve considering they declare it's "family style". taking leftovers hime was tradition but now they literally count the pasta pieces in penne a la vodka and space the broccoli in a cheeky way in the plate to make it seem full- we are not stupid yall! First time visiting after hearing many people say this was a great traditional Italian restaurant. It did not disappoint. We were a party of 6. The calamari was tender and cooked perfectly, fried mozzarella and baked clams all great. Single portions are a good size, we did not opt for family style though we definitely saw alot of tables doing that. Wait staff was very attentive and accommodating. For starters, the bread here is up there with the best there is anywhere. Warm and crispy crust and just delicious. We had the fried mozzarella as an appetizer and it was good - though not great - but the plating and service was phenomenal. I need to learn how to use two huge spoons as chopsticks to serve like our waiter did. I had a Caesar salad as my main in an attempt to be healthy, and both of my friends had the Pappardelle Principessa - a mix of bolognese and vodka sauce. The mains were really well done. The table next to us had some serious issues with incorrect pasta and lemon chicken orders, and we heard the ongoing complaints about it all night - so one star off for the bad service they received - but otherwise a great restaurant. read more

While in NY I was on the hunt for authentic Italian food. Steve's Piccola Bussola was highly recommended by several people & with the reviews being phenomenal so I knew it'd be a home run. Boy did this place hit the spot! First off, the service is wonderful. Everyone was very attentive and pleasant. The portion sizes are HUGE! I started with the fried mozzarella... O.M.G., WOW... its amazing! The perfect amount of mozzarella and crispy breading- I could have made a meal of just that. The sauce was also very delicious and I love the presentation! Up next, the Chicken Marsala. Again, it was absolutely delicious. The sauce was on point! Sadly, I'm not a local but if I'm in the area again this place will be a must! read more

Good Italian food. I had the Chicken Parmigiana and it was very good. It didn't include pasta, so I had to order that separately. The Fried Mozzarella is a must-try. It was so good! I have ate here before and the food and service is always fantastic. Came here for dinner with my mom last night actually. They had valet and even though it was a Monday they were steady with tables. We both had a martini to start that was made excellent. Greeted with warm bread and butter. For appetizers we ordered 6 baked clams and a single cold antipasto. They were even able to chop the baked clams for us. Both apps were delicious. Entrees (we ordered heavy to bring home left overs) - we did the chicken francese and veal rollatini, both single options and both came with 2 pieces of chicken that were huge! We also got a single order of the Pappardelle Principessa, which is a vodka bolognese. This was amazing and strongly suggest it! Recently went to SPB In Syosset, first time there, nice size restaurant, very friendly staff, service was excellent. Appetizers Fried zucchini, fried calamari, and grilled octopus. The fried zucchini had a light golden batter coating, as well as the fried calamari, nice crunch. The grilled octopus's, had a nice light char, season perfectly, buttery soft, delicious. Main courses The Chicken Scarpariello, was outstanding, cooked perfect came right off the bone, very flavorful. The Linguine seafood Diavlo, nice portion, linguine cooked aldente perfectly, abundant amount of seafood, Diavlo not overpowering. Made reservations here for birthday dinner for my mom New Year's Eve. We were seated immediately, ordered a nice bottle of Malbec and ordered appetizers and a full meal. The wait staff checked on us MANY times helping to clear out the table and make sure we had everything needed. Towards the end we sang happy birthday with the help of the staff to end a great dinner. Real, high quality Italian food. I've been going there for over 10 years with my family. We love to get the fried mozzarella balls to start off. The mozzarella is high quality, tomato sauce is delicious. We also love getting the chicken parmigiana and penne a la vodka. The chicken parmigiana is one of those comfort foods to my family. Probably 31/2 stars but service was very good and food was good so I rounded up to 4 stars. The downsides are as mentioned by other yelpers, rock hard butter and fruit flies. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food they offer. Plenty of staff so service is quick and efficient but they do not rush you. I think we stayed for almost 4 hours. The chicken scarpariello was the best dish. Some of the chicken was on the dry side but the sauce was very good and we were all dipping the bread in the sauce. Too good to leave alone. The rigatoni bolognese was very good and the veal piccata was nice and tender and had a really nice bread dip worthy sauce. Gets crowded and noisy on a Saturday night and they don't take reservations but get there at 6 pm and no problem finding a table. read more
