Randomly stumbled across cafe al dente on a quiet, rainy night. No reservations needed. Staff was very friendly. Perfect spot for families. There is also a bar area in the front if you just want to hang and have a drink. Large portions, everything was shareable and very tasty. We had the baked clams , shrimp pasta, & fried mozzarella.

We all went out for my wife's girlfriend's birthday. She wanted to go to Cafe Al Dente in Oyster Bay, NY. My wife and I have eaten at Cafe Al Dente before and loved it. We arrived for dinner and were met by the owner, Damian. He greeted us with a big smile and showed us to our table. Our waitress, Denise, was charming and told us she drove 40 minutes to the restaurant. Damian heard her say that and commented, "She travels that far because this a great place to work!" We all laughed. It's true. We ordered appetizers: baked clams and Buffalo chicken strips. This was the best Buffalo chicken strips I have ever had! Excellent sauce, it was a little hot and spicy! Just the way I like it. We ordered Rigatoni Bolognese wit meatball and sausage tomato sauce, Chicken Oreganata with pasta, and Flounder Francaise with Lobster ravioli. Everything was delicious. Not only were the entrees great, they were good size portions. Then we ordered desserts! Dirty snowballs (chocolate and vanilla ice cream) covered with sprinkles and chocolate sauce. Wow! That was delicious! Our birthday girl got a chocolate cake with a birthday candle. We all sang "Happy Birthday" and clapped. We truly enjoyed ourselves and the Cafe Al Dente experience! If you're in the Oyster Bay Area you should stop by to say hello to the owner, Damian and enjoy a delicious meal. This is one of our local favorite restaurants. Always great food and always great seeing the owner and the staff.

Spent an afternoon in Oyster Bay with some friends that live in this town. We had a lunch spot picked out but on our arrival, it would seem their hours changed due to COVID. So we just happened to pass by this Italian restaurant by chance. It was a pleasant surprise of good eats and great service. The restaurant was able to easily accommodate our outdoor dining request and for seven people no less. They were quick to assemble and setup the table for us. All of the tables they had available were mostly good for 2-5 so the round tables with umbrellas were not going to work for us. Given the time, 1pm, the sun was high and still hitting up most of their parking lot but we were not wanting to dine inside given the nice weather. Onto the food: while everything we ordered were on point and delicious, some stand outs... - sharing size 10" pizzas (we picked cheese and a meat pie). The meat pie was excellent, think fresh ground sausage, pepperoni slices and ground beef. - rigatoni a la vodka, lots of oregano and a very creamy sauce. Grab some bread! - mozzarella stack, three gorgeous pieces of fried mozzarella. The dipping sauce it was paired with was great as well. Very flavorful dish. - veal Parmesan with ziti. The texture of the veal was very tender and juicy. This dish was baked to perfection. See the rest of my photos for the other goodies we tried. All in all, a wonderful lunch. The staff here is very attentive and friendly. They refilled our carafes of water quite a few times and we had asked for plates for each course. Very prompt. They brought out fresh parm and black pepper for our salads and entrees, no fuss. Great local spot. Dine in available as well.

Baked oyster. Amazing our first visit but the second time not so much.

Recently came back here after loving it so much & was very disappointed compared to my last visit, everything was terrible. From the drinks, to the entrees. Terrible. I'm not sure if everyday the chef/bartender is different but everything lacked & left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. Definitely won't be back for awhile.

Stopped here for lunch with my brother-in-law who lives in the area and frequents the restaurant. All day menu but we overheard the waitress telling the table next to us about the lunch specials which she neglected to tell us. I tried the WARM SALAD, with Seasonal Greens, Fresh Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Artichokes, Roasted Peppers, Tomatoes, and a Balsamic Dressing, very god. My wife ordered the Chicken Pastina Soup , comes in two sizes, cup or bowl. She chose the bowl size which was huge, chicken with pasta in a broth, also very good.

I'm a Vegan, never would have thought that an Italian restaurant offered vegan food . Not this place they have vegan pasta with meatball . Sausage and pasta . What a treat being vegan and having this dinner . Not only a vegan option but the taste amazing not heavy , felt not like I ate a huge meal but was a big portion size plate. I highly recommend this to all my VEGAN friends . Great food Great service Clean Cozy atmosphere

My favorites of the night were the pastas and steak. We were lucky they allowed us to book a large party dinner, so my photos of the food are all "family style" servings. If Parmesan is too strong of a flavor for you, you may want to avoid the cauliflower since it is soaking in the sauce (delightful for those who enjoy it). Pastas were all handmade and interestingly shaped! My favorite was the Maltagliati, thin al dente ribbons sliding through a light flavored seafood sauce and tender succulent chunks of shrimp :) Everyone else chose the Gramigna as their favorite-- the curved thick ridged pasta reminded me of bucatini, which worked well with their ragu-like sausage sauce. The Garganelli had a long twisted penne-like shape but was not as al dente, a tad overcooked. It had a tasty vegetable-forward flavor. For entrees, the salmon was either poached or sous vide, making it very tender and moist which was a big contrast to the herb-crusted skin. That part mostly tasted burnt to me. The steak came pre-sliced, and it was tender but also had a nice chew -- perfect! The taste with the peppercorn sauce and mushrooms was really nice. Would definitely get that steak again, and I don't even like meat that much! And for dessert, the chocolate cake was a little dry even though it sat in a puddle of vanilla sauce. The crostata's green apple filling was sweet and tart, yummy! Things I think could be improved: the sizzling shrimp and salmon both had burnt/charred parts. Could be part of the charm, but it took away some of the enjoyment because it just tasted burnt. The small space was filled and busy all night, and it was a little loud as well. Their service was excellent; waiters looked polished in their white outfits and acted the part. It made for a lovely outing-- the birthday boy announced Gioia was his new favorite Italian restaurant! Definitely try this cute little spot out. I will be thinking about the pastas and the steak :D

I was greeted and seated right away. I would have eaten at the bar as a single, but there were only two seats. I would suggest the restaurant expand their bar, it was beautiful and decor classy/elegant. After being seated I was given the standard menu...so after a moment I asked if there was price fix menu. They provided a lovely bruschetta with shaved cheese. A few moments later they brought bread with butter but also olive tapenade which was very good. My mom always said if the bread is good the restaurant usually is. I ordered a Cabernet which was a good pour. The fried calamari was average, not overcooked but I found the breading a little intrusive if that makes sense. For the main I ordered the pasta with dried tomatoes, broccoli rabe, and sausage. It was more like a plate of dried tomatoes with a few sausage bits, and the broccoli rabe hat too much stem. The pasta itself was gummy and clumped. A featured dish at a classy Italian restaurant should be well executed. I get it that a Monday night is not a high volume day and maybe not the most experienced staff are in the kitchen. I"ll just say they did not capitalize on an opportunity to convert me to a repeat customer. I'm sure later in the week their patrons have their best best dinning experiences. Even though it was not busy it seemed at was a local favorite. They asked if I wanted tea or coffee (included) I declined, but they brought 3 assorted cookies on a plate. I took one bite. Maybe the Italian version of a fortune cookie. Not a positive. Just to wrap up, It was a lovely spot that reportedly has good food but my first experience was disappointing.

The menu isn't massive, but they cover every category with extreme precision and do it really well. Seafood, pasta, veal, chicken, and all the classic appetizers you can think of from stuffed artichokes, zucchini blossoms, and house-made burrata. The ambiance is old-school Italian in the best way: timeless, romantic, and cozy. It works just as well for an intimate date night as it does for a small group dinner. Bonus points for being BYOB. We ordered the veal marsala and the seafood pomodoro. The veal was pounded to perfection and swimming in a ridiculously addictive sauce. The seafood pasta was cooked perfectly and loaded with fresh shrimp, clams, and mussels and you can taste the quality and care put in the food. Meals are served with a salad to start, and you can expect to spend around $35 per entrée, which feels more than fair for the quality. We were genuinely impressed and were treated with a lot of attention throughout the meal. The concept of the restaurant being run by two italian twins was honestly so sweet. Highly recommend if you're looking for classic Italian done right without trekking into the city.
