This underlayment is not recommended by the manufacturer (Portercraft Floors). Frank LaCava installed the floor incorrectly and now it will need to be replaced. Nelson Melara installed our tile and the grout is soft/crumbling and will need to be replaced. Nelson is unresponsive and does not stand behind his work.

We then met with several...ultimately choosing Cummings Hardwood Flooring. As I begin to write this review, I glance back over the earlier reviews (2020-2023) we originally found for this company...and can honestly say...NOTHING HAS CHANGED since those earlier postings. Our original meeting with Andy to obtain an estimate was refreshing (inclusive, respectful and knowledge-sharing). His team, as promised, arrived when he said they would. They were exceedingly respectful of the fact that I work from home (and wore earbuds rather than blaring a boom box and shouting). They seemed very organized, worked well together, and cleaned as they went. They completed the project in less time than estimated ("because Mike was on the job..."). Their style and workmanship are clearly deserving of a 5* rating...and we would highly recommend Andy and his team at Cummings Hardwood Flooring and use them again. The only thing we would encourage folks embarking on this type of project to do is invest the time to learn as much as you can about wood, textures, styles, colors, etc. The end product on our floors was much lighter - both in color and in finish - than anticipated. From our perspective it would have been helpful to have seen some type of color/finish samples to better understand the nature and results of the work being proposed. After connecting with Simply Floors early 2026 because of the shredding carpet and after a couple of inspections and coordination with the manufacturer of the carpet, I now have the replacement installed (June 1, 2026). The installation was a good process this time and the carpet will most likely hold up very well. Good installation, done within a reasonable time frame and confirmation of details beforehand was achieved. Would have given 5 stars if this was how it went in the beginning. Although I wouldn't recommend one company over another, I would recommend solid communication with all involved, especially with the install crew and company together so everyone is on the same page from the beginning and not just futile lip service. Follow-up inquiries are also important. Would I work with this company again---probably, since they came through with corrections.

If I wasn't on site during the job there would have been huge mistakes. There was a request for extra flooring that was an agreed part of the contract that was ignored until I threatened to delay payment. That was finally resolved after several weeks (after much complaining from them afterwards) It should have been taken care of when the flooring was ordered. All in all after a ton work on my end I got what I needed but not without a ton of hassle and ZERO customer support.

We vetted several companies and decided to go with ASA Flooring for several reasons: 1) Responsiveness. Bryan was quick to get back to my inquiry and was at the house to assess the project within a day. 2) Knowledgeable. Our refrigerator had leaked and warped several boards. Bryan explained the pros and cons of board replacement vs letting the boards dry out. We went with the latter and saved money. We had another challenge in the fact that we did not have two rooms refinished which meant seamless color matching. Alfredo was an artist and had an eye for selecting the perfect match. Although the final decision was ours, his experience was a definite help. 3) Efficient. The whole process from start to finish only took three days. We used the opportunity for a little vacation in the mountains and came home to beautiful floors! 4) Professional. Kevin, the project manager, came the weekend before to assess the job site and answer any questions. Alberto hung plastic and taped off the areas to reduce dust and vacuumed any remaining dust before the final coat. It has been two years now since they installed a luxury laminate tile floor in my kitchen and it is…read morenot lasting. I asked for it to be glued down, tiles selected had instructions for gluing but they were not followed. I was not told during the project the installer was not gluing them down per instructions until the project was done. I am now having to consider replacing it since the floor pops and snaps when we walk on it. I also just discovered that when the trim they removed was replaced the caulk used was kitchen caulk (not paintable) so I had to scrape it off and redo it.

The project manager CJ was frequently surprised by items in the quote and invoice, for example, we paid for stain for the new flooring install and he had forgotten entirely when they went to install and finish the floors. Additionally he quote and tried to charge us for more trim and a taller trim size than was used. Woodwise left the job completely unfinished, there were knots in the floor that weren't filled correctly and it took three weeks to get them to come back to finish it - meaning we could not put our furniture back for over a month. Additionally their finishing work was embarrassing. They put nearly a half inch of caulk in between quarter round and the wall because it was too short. This happened in multiple places around our kitchen, leaving us to fix work that looks like a "landlord special". We'll be very clear to our friends, neighbors and our workplace that this company should be avoided at all costs.

Since we are new to the act and art of "refinishing hardwood floors" - and because we are naturally very curious people - especially about projects we undertake - we searched extensively online to learn as much as we could about the process (techniques, curing timeframe, cautions to take, power needed, etc.) - we even created a checklist of questions to pose so we could ensure that we gathered needed information and were able to understand the process and the way things were done. As we posed our questions, the person sent to do the in-home estimate interrupted, belittled, berated, discounted, dismissed, contradicted...and outright offended not only us but anyone who had ever been gracious enough to post information online about hardwood floor refinishing (even by the industry association - NAWFA). This Wood Wise person seemed to "know it all"...even better than ANYONE else...and positioned themself as THE ONLY source for any type of hardwood floor refinishing information. For us - as curious people, long-time Boulder residents - property managers, homeowners, professionals - we've NEVER been treated - or spoken to - in the way we were by this Wood Wise representative. Truly, as Lara R shares (Mar 2023 review)..."awful experience-never, ever use them!!"...plus, we would add "there are sooo many hardwood floor refinishers in the area - why put oneself through this type of treatment - especially at the front-end (simply getting an estimate)...before the project even begins." After their in-person visit in Aug 2024, the "new" estimate arrived (why bother?!)...and it was 60% more than one provided in June 20204. This, of course, inspired us to do a bit more research...and we were unable to locate any type of current business registration filed with the Colorado Secretary of State's office for this company.
