If you're shopping around for movers, keep looking! I fell for a 5 star rating on the "Mother Company" of Allied Movers, and didn't dig deep enough to find reviews for Pickens Kane. Had I found them, I would have known better. That's why I'm letting you know...... My move was grossly underestimated, and the movers ran out of blankets. They had to get a second truck. But no extra blankets. They moved my belongings into a storage unit for several days before reloading everything into yet another two trucks, and STILL DID NOT BOTHER to bring more blankets! It is totally inexcusable to tell me they would do a better job than I could in packing my prized family heirlooms - I'll let the photo speak for itself. And yes, I had a lot of damaged items - and their idea of a settlement was rather sad. BTW - the quote was A THIRD of what it finally turned out to be! As I said - keep looking. I hate moving. There. I said it. It is right up there on my list of going to the dentist and sitting in endless meetings. But I have to say, as complicated as this move was, Pikens-Kane pulled it off almost flawlessly and that is saying a lot given other moves that I have done. Let's talk briefly about the complexity of this move. Most moves go from here to there but this move actually required 4 different component moves. From the old house in the suburbs to a new downsized apt in city, from the old house to WI, from the old house to storage, and from the old house to a location in Fort Lauderdale, there were multiple moves all over a series of weeks. Each component of this move was complex and Pikens Kane made it look easy. Mike D came and went through the house to determine how we would do all the segments of the move. He made sure the packers showed up when they were supposed to and that the trucks were loaded on the right days and sent to the right location. Not only most everything get to where it was going and on time, we had no damage with this move which is a rarity with any moving company. So hats off to Pikens-Kane! If there was any hiccup it's that one box that was supposed to get packed, didn't and unfortunately got sold at the moving sale. It caused a little drama but Adrian jumped right in to make sure it wasn't in one of the other locations before telling me it didn't get moved. Disappointing but in the scheme of things a small problem. This could have easily been averted had I been home at the time of the packing as the packers moved it from one floor to another to get packed and then it just didn't get boxed up. All in all, one of the smoothest moves I have done and I've moved all over the world. If you've got a move coming up, you should let them bid your job. It probably won't be the cheapest bid you get, but somethings are worth paying more for to get right. read more

If a complete GONG SHOW is your idea of a good move, this is your mover. I have moved long distance several times and this was by far the worst experience through which I have ever suffered. Any one of the things that happened would have made the move a challenge: The movers damaging private property at neighboring homes and in the development? Yep The movers damaging my items? Yep The movers fighting me tooth and nail to avoid paying my insurance claim on the additional insurance I bought from them? Yep The movers jackknifing their truck, requiring a wrecker to extract it? Yep Allied Pickens managed to do all this and more which is actually kind of incredible. If you are a masochist or you want to see the world burn, these might be the guys for you. However, if you are trying to ensure a smooth move during a stressful time, probably a good idea to look somewhere else. It might be a good idea to look just about ANYWHERE else. I feel like a troupe of traveling circus clowns would run rings around the entire Allied Pickens operation....ugh 0/10, would not recommend! read more

I was so impressed with the level of service which was provided by "Marni & her crew". As all are aware moving is stressful, but throw in relocating to another state & it is amplified!! My move from Chicago(Dolton) to Memphis(Germantown) was a big undertaking!! However, my experience was a blessing in disguise!(Using their packing service contributed to an easy transition!) They were professional & made me feel comfortable because they were sooo efficient!! Please call & ask for a quote even if you have a quote from somewhere else before you sign!! Our family used Allied Pickens Kane this month to move my mother's entire houseful of belongings into storage after she sold her house and then to Florida. Mike Donahue of Allied met us at the house, did a thorough walk through, and gave us great confidence. His crew then packed everything a few days later and they were extremely professional, neat, and careful. He coordinated crating the fragile items including a very tall antique grandfather clock and large pieces of antique furniture. I probably shouldn't admit it, but I think he is undercharging us for all the work involved on this long hall. Couldn't be happier! read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. The delivery of my belongings had 20 day window, and they were still 4 days late. The packers/ movers were supposed to use wardrobe boxes, instead tossed all hanging clothes in boxes, all other folded clothing was balled up and tossed in boxes with no regard. I had an expensive table lamp that I found later at the BOTTOM of a box with no wrapping or padding, completely shattered. They broke the shelf of an antique end table IN HALF. Countless other items were damaged and there was no order to their packing whatsoever, they just tossed things together as fast as they could. I also suspect that I am "missing" several pairs of expensive boxed shoes. Not to mention, the "captain" of the crew reeked of alcohol. Movers left packing materials all over my apartment and building hallway, which I then became responsible for. If you are interested in paying for a full-service move, spend your money elsewhere with a company that cares about your property and completing an honest job. read more

Although I didn't use Pickens-Kane Allied, this review if for the pricing and sales. I needed a proposal for both moving out of state and storage. When Mike D. arrived I said I would need the move plus storage for 6 months. He didn't seem happy about that and his response was that it will be expensive to store with them and I would be better moving the items into a storage unit in the state I was moving to and then arranging for moving from storage into my new home. Given I wasn't looking forward to going through this process all other again I still considered storage with PK an option. When I received Mike's quote, the move cost was in line with the proposals I received from other large, reputable van lines. However there was no quote for storage. I emailed Mike who replied that the cost was in the tiny additional costs at the bottom. There was no exact amount only a price per cwi per day. When I calculated I found that the cost per month was more than what I'd be paying for my temp apartment. I asked myself what makes PK's storage warrant such a high cost over their competitors (5 times more) so I contacted Mike who replied that I told you van line storage is expensive. Needless to say I am using one of PK's competitors that are looking forward to my business and that I'm confident that my precious belongings will be in good hands until I make one call and say "deliver here on x dates". read more

During our move, one of our appliances was damaged. I filed a claim within a week of our move-in date. After numerous conversations with different companies that handle claims for P-K a repairman finally came out 3 1/2 months after the move. He determined that the appliance was unrepairable and then began another odyssey of trying to receive compensation for the loss. Once again, I was shuttled between various agencies that each pointed fingers at another agency as the one responsible for my claim. This route led me back to the individual with whom I originally filed the claim. To date, 6 months after the move, he has ignored my calls and emails. Maybe small claims court is my only avenue. read more

For an operation that has been around as long as it has and a sales pitch that boasts of being Oprah's favorite moving company, they definitely fell short. I was seven months pregnant when we scheduled the move from our former home to our current home (about 20 miles away). The move which took place over two days including overnight storage went terribly wrong due to the job being underestimated by the salesman, Mike and the slow pace of the movers. They were so slow that I thought that they might be slowing down to incur overtime but I was told when we called to complain that was not the case. There were four movers for a three bedroom plus loft/three story townhome. The movers took so long (nine hours) that I had to reschedule a carpet cleaning twice and then finally had to cancel because they still were not done and I was due to close on that house the next day. The carpet cleaning was apart of my closing agreement and to add insult to injury, my carpeted stairs were stained by their foley. I was so stressed out that when the carpet cleaners came back a final time and the move was still in progress, they gave me free spot cleaner to help with the stain caused by the movers. My husband and I were exhausted as we tried scrubbing by hand the spots left on the carpet. We complained to our sales guy who said that his boss told him to throw in an extra mover for the unpacking for the new house which was too little to late as the help was needed for the pack up move. I started a claim on the stained carpet which was never resolved. I ended up being hospitalized the following week and had my baby a month early early so we didn't have time to follow up and not to mention I had to come out of pocket during the closing because of the carpet stains and by the time the dust settled some of my furniture was chipped. If I had not been pregnant/hospitalized and induced, I would have pursued this all the way to the top. This was the worst move that I have ever experienced. It was costly in more ways than one and I will never use them again. The ball was dropped too many times and there was no real resolution. One positive is that the movers were very nice even if they were slow as molasses. read more

We can't recommend this Pickens-Kane more strongly. From our first contact with a home visit from Matt, we felt we were in good hands. We were by no means "big business," but we were treated as top customers. Our phone calls were returned immediately, emails were as well. An international move is exhausting. And on top of it, we were expecting our 3rd child in just month, with a 3 year old and 2 year old at home. Matt and Sally were always ready to help allay concerns or answer questions. Even when we had moved to Belgium, Sally responded promptly to my questions. The packing/loading team and unpacking team here in Belgium were professional and efficient. We received excellent service on both sides of the ocean. We would say the only non-stressful part of your international move was Pickens-Kane. read more

Pickens Kane is reliable and delivered my furniture from downtown Chicago to Seattle at a reasonable cost and within my timeframe. They packed my entire household contents really well. Also, the movers did not do any damage during move out of the condo. Kathy Strle is a great person to work with and kept me apprised of pickup and delivery status all the way.
