First let me say that I'm not a big sea food fan. Our family (roughly 40 ppl) came to this restaurant starving, after a day at the beach. We all arrived and was greeted with the utmost of respect, professionalism and speedy service. One would think that they were expecting us. We took up all of the dining/bar seating and the staff handled that with stride. I decided to try the crispy fried fish dish which included succulent corn on the cob, and perfectly made Cole slaw. That meal was to die for. Everything was fresh, nicely prepared and the taste was out of this world. Others had smoked oysters, crab legs, calamari, crayfish just to name a few items that were offered from the menu. Everyone was excited and overly pleased with their meal of choice. The staff members were superb. They were friendly, attentive, helpful and did I mention speedy with our food delivery. They spoiled us all. ​​The atmosphere was comfortably welcoming, clean without the strong fishy odor some seafood restaurant have. That smoked fish, which was provided to us as a "sampler" was simply wonderful. This place could easily conform me into becoming a sea food lover. Drove past on the way in and noticed it was open. We used to love Oceans's which closed but probably for good reason (rundown building, staff could be rude at times), but we did like their food and fish market, dips. Picketts has completely renovated the space, very clean, nice bar area and seating area. I was greeted by the bartender when I walked in. Ordered the fish sandwich and clam chowder to go. Bartender was very polite, talked about the location, speciality dips, market and spoke of the family who owned the location. I saw a review about the prices. Like much of the New Smyrna restaurant scene, this place isn't cheap but the portions were very big and the quality matched the price in my opinion. I split the fish sandwich with my wife (I'm 6'3 200 pounds, not going to disclose her weight lol) and I was full after. My wife remarked the fish sandwich tasted similar to Hillstones fish sandwich in Orlando (IYKYK). It used to be a family tradition to eat at Oceans in NSB when my son and daughter in law came down to visit but over the years it got pretty rundown, but this new place Pickets , has renovated and are expanding parking and dining area. We visited today and oh boy what a wonderful difference. Clean as a new penny and the decor was creative and spot on. The fresh and I mean fresh seafood in the market is maintained by Zack, the most pleasant and knowledgeable young man I've met in a while. Our server and cashier was so nice and helpful that she took us in the back to see future renovations and some darn great pictures of fish caught by the Picketts. The entrees were extensive,featuring the freshest of local seafood and great shellfish and shrimp. We had chargrilled oysters,grilled swordfish and an oyster po'boy and all agreed everything was phenomenal and the tradition shall continue. Thanks Picketts for our experience. read more

Stopped into Picketts on a rainy Friday night, and we're thoroughly impressed. Super great selection of fresh seafood prepared a variety of ways, beer and wine, locally sourced, ice cream, fresh fish for purchase, and more. You order at the counter and either take it to go or sit in their charming little dining room and enjoy your food. The service was excellent with dad jokes for days. We ordered a beer and then learned they had a huge selection of canned beer and other beverages too. They also have a soda fountain on site. We really loved the fish dip... Some of the best I've ever had. The haddock platter was also excellent and a huge portion. We also enjoyed the chilled peel and eat shrimp. The only item that wasn't perfect was the fish sandwich. We didn't want to pay the $36 for the grouper sandwich so we went with the the house fish and it was not great. The coleslaw was also nothing special. But the fries were great! We visited here, Labor Day weekend with a friend when we walked in, we were greeted very friendly at the door and we went straight to the counter to look at the fresh fish & seafood because we hadn't decided if we were going to Cook at home or eat at the restaurant. The gentleman behind the counter was awesome. He went over all the selections told us what we could do how we could order food take food home gave recommendations was very welcoming. After speaking with him, we decided to order in. The lady at the counter was very nice explained the menu (but stated hadn't tried items really didn't like to hear that) the sides we could order then they let us sit wherever in the quaint little restaurant. It was very clean. They are very tentative made sure you had everything you needed once the meals came out, I had got the mahi tacos. I just wish I knew it came with red onions because I'm allergic to vinegar. They had a bulletin board versus a menu, which I could understand help save on cost my fault for not asking but they were very delicious. Had great taste very fresh. My friend had the mahi sandwich with their onion rings and coleslaw, and he said it was absolutely delicious. Love the freshness loved the onion rings that were recommended from the lady who took our order upfront. They were very clean tasting and not oily would highly recommend ordering them. Overall would have given five plus star only if the lady that took orders on 9/4/26 wouldn't have said hadn't tried items on menu. Good luck it looks like they're expanding. We stopped by around 12:30 Sunday afternoon so we were the 1st ones seated other than the group at the bar. The bar is located to the right as soon as you walk in the door. The bartender handed us 2 menus as we walked in and informed us to make our selections and then line up again at the bar to place our order. It can be a bit confusing as the fresh menu is also located next to the door where you line up to place your order with the barkeep. So we wandered around a bit, talked to the guy behind the fresh fish counter who directed us back to the fresh fish menu on the wall over by the bartender. Well, we kinda figured out what we wanted so we left our table and went back to the bar to place our order. Bartender takes your order at the bar, the food comes out of the kitchen by someone, you eat and they bus your table. Food was fresh and delicious. As we ate we discussed coming back again now that we understand the process. Small bar, about 10 stools and about the same number of tables. The place filled up almost completely before we left so our timing was perfect. I wondered if my wife would think I have lost my mind when I suggested that we go back to Pickett's Seafood, but when I told her about the rock shrimp and the red grouper, she smiled and said "I love rock shrimp and I've never had red grouper". So off we went, on Saturday night. Once again, absolutely amazing, and for those who are shocked by the prices, here is what we got and I will tell you, this is GOOD value. We had 1 lb of red grouper, 1/2 pound of rock shrimp. The shrimp was steamed in butter and old bay, and served with butter and cocktail sauce and was absolutely amazing. The meat came right out of the shell and was perfect. The red grouper was grilled to perfection and served with lemon, and was so tasty. Ok, 1 lb of red grouper, 1/2 lb of rock shrimp, their tasty fries and fresh coleslaw with a landshark and a coke plus tax and tip, $76. For the freshest seafood prepared and served perfectly? I would say we might need a reserved table but we have gone twice this week and walked in got served and had a nice table. Picketts Seafood is in our top 5! read more

I was very skeptical when I arrived. It looks like a beach shack and it's pretty much serve yourself. You sit at any empty table, you go to the bar to get menus and drinks. If you get soda there is a serve yourself soda fountain. Once you decide on a meal - don't miss the special board by the entry door - you go back up to the bar near the front door to order and receive a number for your table. They bring you the food on cafeteria trays and you get your own plastic silverware and condiments from the area near the soda fountain. My mother order the fisherman platter with coconut shrimp- delicious and great temperature. My brother orders the fisherman platter blacken shrimp and fries - the temperature was maxing the blacked flavoring delicious again. Can I mention the crispy fries so so so good!! I ordered a special yellow eye snapped grilled - oh my word was this so worth it - nice and hot food even know the place was full. The flavoring of the snapper was perfect. We also had the calamari appetizer superb! Not chewy perfectly cooked with a nice zingy sauce. Mom did not like the sauce the came with the the coconut shrimp but we could not stop saying how amazing and delicious all the food was. We spent $114. I would say my snapper could have been a little cheaper but I loved it so very much. Large portions! We make it a priority to try as many different spots as possible when we travel. However. We found ourselves enjoying Picketts 3x during our 6 day stay in the area...and would have gone even more if the stone crab availability was sustained. Initially drawn in by the stone crab, we tried a variety of other local fish dishes and loved them all. Especially got a kick out of the grouper collar--a tremendous value at $11. Also really enjoyed that they offered ice cream treats from a local creamery. Also also loved that you can pick anything from the market case and have it prepared to order. The only bummer is that the extra large and jumbo stone crab were priced 60%+ more than the large and medium...and several of the days only the jumbo were available. I get the increased pricing due to scarcity, but I just couldn't justify the extra expense (they taste the same to me and don't offer much more meat). read more

Picketts Seafood is dangerous, and is the reason I'll be broke by December. These two bartenders are a national treasure. Jenna pours beer like she's flirting with gravity, and Francine can read your soul, figure out exactly what you're craving, and deliver it with a smile that should come with a warning label. I've never felt so understood by strangers in my life. The fish bites are little golden nuggets of joy, the fish dip is creamy, smoky perfection I want to bathe in, and even the cheeseburger is stupidly good (who does that at a seafood joint??). Only beer and wine for now? Didn't matter--Jenna and Francine could serve me tap water and I'd still tip like a Saudi prince. Stone crab season is here and these claws were so satisfying I needed a shower and cigarette when I finished. Run, don't walk. We decided to try out Pickett's for lunch. It's been a year waiting and we assumed (incorrectly) it would be a more "sit down" kind of place. It's very similar to the previous tenant (Oceans). You order at the register, then take a seat at one of the handful of tables. We had the fish sandwich and the crab salad sandwich and a side of onion rings. Everything was tasty, but those 3 items plus two fountain drinks was $80. We won't be frequenting there at that pricing. And we eat out at nice restaurants frequently. I certainly wish them success & I am happy to have a source of fresh fish/seafood, but they are going to have to step up their game to warrant the pricing for that kind of menu. read more

Wow, so disappointing. Four of us dined there Saturday. Name & signs misleading. If you want fresh, you will have to buy the fish & take home to cook. All 4 of us ordered different things so we could try them out. Coconut shrimp was obviously frozen out of the box. Same shrimp you can get at Aldi for $3.50. Yet they charged $18. Tasted terrible. And 8 French fries. Really? Coleslaw was definitely pre-made elsewhere & terrible. Fish sandwich just ok. Small portion. Again 7 or 8 French fries.
