The food here is very good. And the outdoor seating is wonderful. However, they were very busy and had a hard time being pleasant. This time, my soup was very bland and my cold sandwich, warm. The parking is also a little bit of a disaster, but I don't know how much they can do for a big fat truck taking up two parking spots. It is such a cute little place to have a light breakfast or lunch. But be weary of asking to customize because they have a sign that says "You get it our way, or you don't get nothing". I get it, it's humorous. It still made me a little incredulous. All I wanted was to ask for no Mayo or Red Onions, for my younger child. I love this place so much, I just had to give them another review! My friend and I had lunch here today and let me tell you....it was absolutely delicious! You would think a place selling sandwiches and salads would not be anything to write home about, but this place is the best!!! I ordered a tri-tip sandwich ...the bread was perfect and tasted freshly baked, the tri-tip was tender and thinly sliced with a smoked flavor, the tomatoes, avocado, onions and sprouts were all fresh...it was the best sandwich I've ever had. Rollin down 49 earlier today searching for some California gold and happened upon the Pickle Patch Deli in San Andreas. Negatives first then the positives. Walked in and the frowny grump at the register didn't smile or greet us other than ask what we wanted to order., almost like, "hurry up and order I have way more important things to do than take YOUR order." Feeling rushed and actually having to run back to the front of the building to grab a menu I quickly decided to order the strawberry spinach salad special while my other ordered a Smokin Turkey sandwich at $10. We placed our order all the while watching the stressed out kitchen staff mimic their owner's behavior. Yes, grumpy cash register lady was the owner. I saw her picture hanging in the water closet. We ate lunch and as we were leaving I told my other I'd give him a buck if he could spot a single staff member smiling. Ha...saved that buck for another day. Also, as you can see from my bill, I was charged $.50 for making changes to my salad. First change was hold the walnuts, second was cheese on the side. If I would have asked for fries instead of walnuts I would understand the "Changes" fee but I was saving them $$ by not requesting walnuts. The other discrepancy on our bill had to do with being charged for a Reuben at $10.95 rather than the Smokin Turkey @$10.00. They don't even have a Reuben on the menu. Sup??? Now the positive...excellent food but overpriced. Delivery of food was quick probably due to the fact that they were closing soon and wanted to get the lunch patrons out the door so they could prepare for a retirement party. I will go back one more time. I will make a change to the meal but I'll ask if they are going to charge me for omitting things from my meal. If so, I'll just pick them out myself. You'd never expect this place, but when you step inside, you know you've found an amazing spot. This lunch join has a great selection of eats, putting together some of the most tasty combinations. They have salads, soups, and sandwiches packed full of fresh veggies and flavors. I ordered the veggie sandwich with the cream cheese spread and was blown away by how tall the sandwich stood. Just by appearance of the sandwich, you can tell their food here is made with a lot of prep time and hand work. I greatly appreciated this. Along with your sandwich you get a choice of homemade salads. I chose the pesto pasta salad, and was super satisfied. Their grounds are amazing. The restaurant section is a house, with a backyard patio that goes for days. There are so many sections to sit, some private and some open. It's covered with gorgeous trees for shade, and peacefulness that makes your lunch experience something more than just lunch. It was a lovely, brilliant afternoon. My friends and I left full and happy. We still marvel at this place, and how lucky we were to stumble upon it. I'd gladly made another road trip to revisit this place. This is what I IMAGINE what a perfect sandwich would taste like. Bread was fresh and toasted just right, lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp, the Bacon was thick and cooked with *just* enough crunch to make you take a hearty bite to break through it....and the pesto was drizzled on just enough that I had to occasionally lick my fingers. Lo, and it was good. My side was the macaroni salad (possibly also pesto based), but even tho it was a little more than what I thought I could eat (before driving back 3 hours to the Bay Area), it tasted too darn good to leave on the plate. and momma taught me to clean up the plate...no arguments from me since together they were so darn tasty. highly HIGHLY recommended sandwich shop. Compared to most sandwich shops in the Bay Area, this would put them to shame. Amazing. If you are looking for a place to have special event for large amounts of people this is the place. Perfect for weddings or large anniversary parties. The grounds are so nice. The staff is friendly and excellent customer service. Food is amazing and you get the most value for your dollar. The Calaveras Cancer Support Group held their yearly fashion show in the back. It couldn't of been any perfect, a true slice of heaven. We had concerns and the staff helped us so much. The buffet food was first class and wonderful deserts. Clean clean place and clean restrooms. The line was put the door! I thought it was insane, until I tasted my sandwich! Definitely worth the line of 15+ people jammed into a small ordering area trailing out the door. I got a turkey cranberry sandwich with a side of pesto! Super yummy and a very generous portion! Only sad part was I could only finish half of the sandwich and because of all the fresh veggies in my sandwich, when I went to eat my second half a few hours later, the bread was sadly soggy. I stopped in for lunch after going to the DMV. I had seen a good review of the broccoli salad on Yelp, so I went for Ma Rita's beef sandwich with a side of broccoli salad. Picked up the first half of my sandwich and the bread was warm and toasted to not quite crisp. Perfect. Took a bite and it was delicious. The broccoli salad was also spot on. I drove past this place for six months or so and elected to either eat in Angels Camp (Next town up) or Valley Springs (1 town before it) Boy was I wrong!!! 1 day my co worker and I stopped in. Taco Salad Wednesday. PHENOMENAL!!!! All the ingredients here taste fresh. Everyday they have a special along side their excellent menu. Local owners. Friendly staff. Typically Pickle Patch is my recommendation when people ask me where to eat. The food is great, but the experience really determines if I would return (or make recommendations to others). Bad customer service definitely ruins any dining experience. This afternoon has changed the view I had of this establishment. I asked if I could order a Chicken Ceasar Salad with no dressing on the salad, but sub ranch on the side. The cashier said "Sure, alot of people do it" , I didnt feel I was asking much, and she didn't tell me it couldn't be done (in fact on one of my several visits I got it as requested). When the order came the salad was tossed with dressing, I'm watching my calories closely, which is why I asked for the dressing on the side so I could control my portion. I let the wait staff know that the order was incorrect and she said she would TRY to get it fixed. She returned 5 minutes later with the same salad and said "Sorry, I couldn't get it fixed, and we don't give refunds". At this time my party is also getting disturbed by this result and asks for the manager. The manager comes out and after I explain what I had ordered she tells me "Even though you ordered ranch, it is still a Ceasar salad, and EVERYBODY knows a Ceasar salad is tossed", essentially calling me stupid. Taken back by this approach to solving the issue I replied, "Yes, a Ceasar is typically tossed, however, I ordered with no dressing and to have it on the side. Your counter staff did not object to my request or say it couldn't be done when I was charged ($17.43, for the sale and iced tea)". She then picks up the salad and says "This is how it is, I have to throw this away and waste food, and I don't like wasting food, that is why I will not have it remade". (Wasting food is not a good thing however, the waste would not have occurred if the request was not dishonored for the sake of "EVERYBODY knows a Ceasar is TOSSED"). One of my companions spoke up "The reason she asked for it on the side was for her dietary need, had the counter staff had told her that she wouldn't be accommodated I am sure she would have chosen something else". The managers rebuttal "We have 150 people walk through our door every day, we can't do this for everyone who comes in." The manager did, after demeaning my intelligence ("EVERYBODY knows") and trying to guilt trip me into taking it anyways, finally acquiesce and a new salad was brought out...with the dressing on the side. It is a shame of how this experience has soured my view of the Pickle Patch. I never expected such a disconnect in customer service. My recommendation, The Pickle Patch should invest in the customer service training "Give 'em the pickle" (look it up, it's a real thing) and learn how to serve their guests with respect and mild accommodation. read more

The only bad thing about the Pickle Patch is that they are not open for dinner! I eat here frequently and have not had a bad bite yet! I have also attended events catered by them and everything was great. At lunch the have sandwiches and salads and in the winter, soup. There are daily specials to keep the menu interesting. You place your order at the register then take your number out to a table. The outside eating area is green with shade trees and grass. It's a relaxing place to enjoy your meal, but if you're in a hurry, you can get it to go. The kitchen is fast so you don't have to wait long. In the summer the Pickle Patch had Open Market Wednesdays when they serve dinner, have live music, and farmers/craft market. It's a wonderful place to spend an evening.
